Obituary Preview: James Paul Buttram, affectionately known as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away on February 14, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on August 27, 1940, in Monterey, Tennessee, Jimmy was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature and friendly demeanor. His final days were spent surrounded by love at his daughter’s home in Cookeville, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
Jimmy was a devoted member of the Monterey Church of the Nazarene, where he nurtured his faith and formed lasting bonds with his church family. His commitment to his faith and his church was evident in the way he lived his life.
Jimmy was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. He is survived by his dear friend and companion, Betty Mullins, who stood by him in thick and thin. His legacy continues through his beloved daughter, Kim Wagner, and her husband, Ray, who will cherish his memory forever. Jimmy’s spirit will also live on in his grandchildren, Beth and Elijah Greer, as well as his great-grandson, Teddy James, who brought immense joy to his later years. His son-in-law, James Greer, will remember Jimmy as a model of fatherhood and friendship. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara King Buttram, who instilled in him the values of love and family that he carried throughout his life.
Before retiring, Jimmy dedicated over 30 years of service to Napa Auto Parts in Cookeville. His work was not just a job but a significant part of his life where he made many friends and left a lasting impact on the community.
Jimmy was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and football, often sharing these interests with his friends and family. His laughter and stories during the games will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
A funeral service honoring Jimmy will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Pastor Gary Wilson will officiate. Following the service, Jimmy will be laid to rest at Whittaker Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on the same day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather and share memories.

Obituary Preview: Terri Marie Heiderich, a beloved wife, mother, aunt, and friend, passed away suddenly at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville on July 9, 2023. Born on August 23, 1964, in Monterey, TN, to the late Jimmie Dowell Overstreet and Janice Clark Overstreet, Terri was known for her loving and thoughtful nature throughout her 58 years.
Terri attended Monterey High School, where she graduated with the class of 1982. Her commitment to hard work and dedication was evident in her career at Lamb Oil Company where she served for over 30 years.
However, it was her personal life that truly defined her. Terri was a dedicated wife to her husband, Jeff Heiderich, with whom she shared many treasured memories. Their love story is one of unconditional support, mutual respect, and shared laughter. As a mother to her two sons, Cole Heiderich of Franklin, VA and Corey Heiderich and his wife Lily of Mineral Springs, TN, Terri was a constant source of love and encouragement. Always the devoted sports mom, Terri was a familiar and cheering presence at her sons' games, demonstrating her deep love for her children.
Terri's family also includes her niece, Angel and her husband, Brandon Presley, of Cookeville, and their daughter, Kadie Presley. Terri had a special bond with her niece and great-niece and cherished the time she spent with them. Being an aunt brought her immense joy, and her family will remember her for the love and kindness she always showed them.
Terri loved deeply, worked hard, and always put her family first. Her legacy is one of love and dedication, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service honor Terri will be at 6 p.m. Thursday July 13 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Pastor Steve Tiebout will officiate. Her family will welcome friends Thursday from 3 p.m. until service time.

Lessie was a trusted employee at the Bank of Monterey (One Bank) for a number of years. She was also a faithful member of Monterey First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Hayes; and parents, Winfred Donald Matheney and Littie Atkins Matheney. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Mable Claudean Delon, Mary Helen Matheney, Arnold Lee Matheney, Lucy Robinson, Winnifred Casey, William Douglas Matheney, Samuel D. Matheney, and Cecil Matheney.
She is survived by her son, Charles Philip Hayes and his wife Lisa of Silver Point, TN; granddaughter, Megan Rucker and her husband, Matt of Hermitage, TN; and nieces, Pamela Robinson Duer (Philip), Marcia Robinson Hutto, and Vicki Hayes Henley (Bob).

Obituary Preview: Eldridge Barnett Eads, a loving father, grandfather, and devoted husband, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023, in Monterey, Tennessee. Born on January 15, 1938, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he was the cherished son of the late Luther Barnett Eads and Minnie Ruby Eads. Eldridge is survived by his son, Brian Allen Eads; daughter-in-law, Vera (Vetta) Sturgill Eads; and grandson, Alexander Barnett Eads, all of Monterey. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tommie Jean Eads, who will now be reunited with him in eternal rest. He is also predeceased by his siblings: Betty Catherine Eads, Phillip Wayne Eads, Eugene Vester Eads, Luther Morris Eads, Jearldean Eads, Bobby Ray Eads, Earnest Donald Eads, and Charles Ronald Eads
Eldridge received his education at Trevecca Nazarene College, where he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic that would serve him well throughout his life. After marrying the love of his life, Tommie Jean Howard Eads, in 1965, the couple lived in Kansas City, Missouri, for several years before settling in Chattanooga. In 1973, they relocated to Monterey, where they would raise their family and create countless memories together.
A man of many talents and interests, Eldridge held various jobs over the years, always striving to provide the best for his family. He was a dedicated member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville since 1986, where he not only worshipped but also found a sense of community and belonging.
Eldridge had a passion for singing both in church and was a proud member of a local barbershop quartet, sharing his beautiful voice with others and bringing joy to all who heard him perform. He was also a talented artist, skilled in drawing and painting, and his creative spirit shone through in all aspects of his life.
The role Eldridge cherished most was that of a devoted Poppy to his grandson, Alex. He took great pride in nurturing and guiding Alex, and their bond was truly special.
A graveside service and interment for Mr. Eldridge Eads, will be held Saturday, June 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Whittaker Cemetery. Rev. Christian Smith will officiate. His family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Horner Funeral Home.

Hewey Justin Garrett Sr passed away on February 25, 2023 in Marion, Indiana. His battle with serious medical issues in recent months was just too much on him after losing his wife in 2021.
Born May 17, 1946, Hewey was a great man who cared deeply for all those he loved, he would do anything in the world to try and help anyone out. One of his proudest accomplishments in life was being a grandpa. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and fast cars. He worked for Indiana Glass for 36 years before retiring.
Hewey is preceded in death by his wife, Diana Miller Garrett, son, Ronnie Lee Garrett, grandson, Hunter Walker, sister, Carolyn, and by parents, R.D. & Maudean.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and brothers.

Glen Goggins - July 17, 1935 - January 22, 2023

Glen passed away suddenly Sunday, January 22, 2023 at his home.
He was born July 17, 1935 in Crawford, TN to the late Willie Snow Goggins and Laura Copeland Goggins.
Glen graduated from Baxter Seminary in 1954. He was in the US Navy for 20 years, serving on five different ships. His service included being stationed in Vietnam on the Gulf of Tokin for 10 months.
After retiring from the Navy, he graduated from Preston Road School of Preaching in Dallas, TX and began a career as a full-time minister. Glen served in churches in Nebraska in the cities of Holdrege and Omaha and also in Lubbock, TX. He later moved back home to Tennessee and served in churches in Monterey, Crossville, Flat Creek, Livingston, and Fairfield Glade. Glen was currently a member of Monterey Church of Christ. Glen was a member of American Legion Post 45, VFW Post 6277, and the Naval Fleet Reserve
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michelle Goggins of Virginia Beach, VA; his daughter, Melissa Williams of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Vanessa Greenup, Whitney (Aaron) Mondragon and Alec Williams; and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Vaden died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 13, 1941, in Monterey to the late Wirt Hathen "Hack" Vaden and Epsie Pearl Ledbetter Vaden. He was a graduate of Monterey High School class of 1959. Following graduation he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy.
Ted displayed a strong work ethic throughout his life, most notably as owner of Music City Sewer & Drain for many years. He also worked at Mcdonald Douglas and as a bus driver, and owned the Cup & Saucer Restaurant for over 10 years. Equal to his enjoyment of work was his enjoyment of life-he loved having a good time for himself and for the benefit of others He collected various antiques throughout his life including MG cars. He also served as a Monterey town alderman for 10 years.
He loved and provided for his family. His grandchildren brought him great joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, William McGill Vaden, Jake Vaden, Vernon "Ditty" Vaden and Murrel "Buddy" Clayton Vaden; and by sister, Lucy England Dunn.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Reeder Vaden; sons, Scott (Penny) Vaden, Jeremy (April) Vaden and Jason (Dr. Amanda) Vaden; daughter, Tammy (Randy) Payne; grandchildren, Sydney and Jared Vaden, Kinsley Vaden, Damian and Rosa Payne and Cheyenne and Tamaha Vaden and by brothers, Tommy (Serena) Vaden and Larry (Fran) Vaden.

Jimmy McCowan - January 01, 1944 - April 30, 2022

Jimmy died Saturday evening April 30, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family he loved dearly.
He was born Saturday January 1, 1944 in Overton County, Tennessee to the late Silas and Allie Mae (Wilson) McCowan.
Jimmy was a 1961 graduate of Rickman High School and joined the U.S. Army the same year.
He retired as a Deputy Division Chief with the Central Intelligence Agency. During his 33 year Army and CIA career, he received numerous awards and recognitions including the Exceptional Performance Award Career Intelligence Medal; the Certificate of Distinction Award; and the Office of Technical Collection Medallion.
Jimmy founded Cedar Chapel Woodworks, LLC. and his son, Kevin carries on the family business. He had many interests including genealogy, woodworking, reading, and most of all his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harlie McCowan; sister, Mildred Phillips; brother-in-law, Horace Howard; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth McCowan.
Survivors include his wife of over sixty years, Bennie Ruth (Looper) McCowan (whom he married December 26, 1961 in Crossville, TN); two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Sarah McCowan of Kingston Springs, TN; Kevin and Amanda McCowan of Lebanon, TN; the grandchildren he loved dearly, Caitlin (Nick) Sampson, Kelsey (Jonathan) Greathouse, John, Patrick, and Ashley McCowan; great grandchildren, Benjamin Sampson and Haley Greathouse; brothers, Fred (Sylvia) McCowan, Estle McCowan, and Carlie (Joanne) McCowan; sister, Evelyn Howard; sister-in-law Gail McCowan, and many special family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

Jimmy also retired from a career that spanned over 26 years with State of TN Department of Corrections.
He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 751 FA&M.
He was a member of Monterey First Baptist Church and he served as deacon for over 30 years.

She was born Wednesday November 24, 1937 in Monterey to the late Daniel Welch and Wahlena Rogers Horn.
After graduating from Monterey High School, she attended Trevecca Nazarene University. Barbara began a career as a legal secretary for attorney John Gill. She also worked for a number of years as secretary and bookkeeper at Monterey High School. An accomplished seamstress, she later enjoyed working at Glenda's Fabric Store. Until her recent illness, she made remembrance bookmarks for families at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Horner Funeral Home.
Barbara was dedicated to her family. She and husband, Lemuel married August 19, 1967, and she became a devoted wife and stepmother to Lemuel's children. Together, they built a legacy of home, family and community. A wonderful cook and homemaker, she will be remembered for the delicious dishes she lovingly prepared from the recipes she collected over the years.
She was a long-time member of the Monterey Church of the Nazarene. She had a giving spirit and found joy and contentment through helping others.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary (Rev. Gaylord "Bud") Rich of Watertown, and Sara Tinch of Cookeville; stepchildren, Jack (Dianne) Gill and Jill (David) Horner of Cookeville; grandchildren, Jennifer (Billy) Heady of Knoxville, Chad (Lauren) Gill of Franklin and Clint (Rachel) Gill of Cookeville, Chris (Chasity) Howard of Cookeville, and Mark (Erin) Howard of Richmond, KY; Jason (Bridget) Horner, Brad (Jessica) Horner and Erin (Jason) Gaw, all of Cookeville; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; aunt, Delores Rogers of Monterey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a nephew, Daniel Frederick McGraw and special "sister," Betty Sue Smith.
