Zaitlin. He was a lifelong resident of Saco and graduate of Thornton Academy. From his teenage years he followed in the legacy of his grandfather and father and had a long and dedicated career in scrap metal recycling, alongside his younger brother, Michael Zaitlin. He was a multi-talented heavy equipment
operator. David was a quiet, but constant and kind presence in the lives of his adoring friends and large, extended family. He had a dry and sometimes mischievous sense of humor, known for carefully selecting funny cards and toys for every occasion for his relatives and friends. David was “Uncle David” to so many and played an important role in the lives of his many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews and their spouses. David always loved a good party, and just four days before his death he got to enjoy his last birthday party with
over 60 of his closest friends and family paying him a visit. His love of his family was closely followed by his zest for fishing, the New England Patriots and other New England sports teams. His family would be hard- pressed to find a picture of him without a Patriots baseball cap on; which was his trademark look, no matter the occasion. He was a world-class fisherman, enjoying countless trips on the Saco River, Saco Bay, and Biddeford Pool as well as many journeys to fishing destinations such as Rangeley, Sebago and Florida. Last September he enjoyed a “bucket list” salmon fishing trip to White
Salmon, Washington, with his brother Michael and nephew, Adam Hersh. David and Dee Dee were married over forty-two years. Theirs was an exceptionally devoted and loving relationship that has served as an inspiration to all who knew them. David is also survived by his brother Michael and wife Diane B. Zaitlin as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins from the Zaitlin and

Mary Ann Klouda - January 08, 1937 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Biddeford)
Obituary Preview: Mary Ann (Aberle) Klouda, 87, of Kennebunk, passed away on April 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, after a determined and courageous fight against metastatic cancer.
Mary Ann was born on January 8, 1937, in Peoria, Illinois. Known affectionately as “Mitzi” to her family, she was the oldest of Arthur and Clara Aberle’s five children. At the age of 10, her family moved to Campbell, California then to Cupertino, California a few years later, where she spent the rest of her youth. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in San Jose, California.
Then she attended Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, majoring in chemistry. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Human Physiology, with a minor concentration in biochemistry, from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She was the first ever woman to earn this degree from Loyola.
She married Robert “Bob” Klouda on August 25, 1962, and together they raised four children, primarily in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She helped with homework, sewed handmade clothes, and volunteered in the schools, at church, and with other activities.
In addition to devoting herself to caring for and supporting her beloved family, she pursued a challenging and fulfilling career as an accomplished college professor, which ultimately spanned nearly 40 years. She began teaching at the University of Massachusetts Amherst followed by Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts. She then moved to Sacramento, California, and taught at California State University Sacramento and other area colleges. Her engaging teaching style and genuine concern for her students made her a well-liked and highly respected professor.
After her retirement, Mary Ann and Bob moved from Sacramento, California back to Massachusetts, where she lived in Webster and played an active role in their children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She formed deep connections with each of them by encouraging their dreams, sharing everyday fun, and supporting them through challenges.
In 2009, Mary Ann achieved her long-standing goal of publishing a book that would share her extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology with the public, a culmination of years of determined work. “Understanding the Amazing Human Body” describes the magnificent splendor of the human body in clear, understandable language for all to appreciate.
Mary Ann moved to Kennebunk in 2013 as a widow to be closer to her family. She quickly became involved at St. Martha’s parish, where she formed deep connections and friendships through prayer groups and other events. She was also an active member of St. Peter the Apostle’s parish in Naples, FL, where she spent her winters for the past 13 years. In Florida, Mary Ann was an active and dedicated volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul Society - St. Peter Conference for many of those years.
Always ready for new challenges, Mary Ann enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and other brain games, such as Sudoku and Wordle. She also enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles with her children and grandchildren. She loved taking long walks with friends or family, especially along the beach or on nature trails.
An avid nonfiction reader, she was constantly expanding her vast knowledge on a wide range of topics. She also enjoyed listening to Big Band music, Dixieland jazz, and ‘40s hits.
Born on a Friday, she was truly “loving and giving,” as well as very hardworking, selfless, practical, organized, fiercely independent, funny, caring, and always willing to go on an adventure. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, as well as learning and exploring through Elderhostel programs.
Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family, whom she loved immensely. She was a favorite babysitter for her grandchildren, and her adult children never stopped relying on her for support and advice. She kept in close contact with her siblings and visited them as often as she could, despite their long distance from where she lived. She was also a trusted and cherished friend, always wanting to help others in any way she could.
Her deep Catholic faith and unwavering trust in God formed the cornerstone of her values and principles, guiding her throughout life. Her huge heart, generous spirit, and determined positive attitude left a lasting impact on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary Ann was predeceased by both her parents and her beloved husband of 47 years, Bob. She is survived by her son, Gregory, and his wife Denise, of Lancaster, MA; her daughter, Sally, and her husband Tim Kasper, of San Diego, CA; her daughter, Rebecca, and her partner David Fanuele, of Mansfield, MA; and her daughter, Julie, and her husband Chris MacClinchy, of Kennebunk, ME. William H. Wiinikainen Jr. - February 12, 1949 - April 14, 2024

Departed: 04/14/2024 (Biddeford)
Obituary Preview: William (Winnie) H. Wiinikainen Jr February 12, 1949 – April 14, 2024
Jonesport, Maine formally of Barnstable MA.
It is with deep regret and aching hearts that we announce the passing of our brother Billy on April 14, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a severe case of pneumonia. He was 75 years old. Those of us that could be with him took turns holding his hands and shared memories and whispered how we loved him.
Billy was born on February 12, 1949, at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis MA, to Rose (Govoni) and William H. Wiinikainen of Barnstable Village. He is pre-deceased by his parents, sister Annmarie and nephew Johnny O’Malley Jr. He leaves behind sisters Linda, Denise, and Wilhelmiina Wiinikainen and brother-in-law Richard Hagenbuch Jr. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and countless cousins.
Growing up in the village Billy hung out with his childhood friends including Terry, Al, and Frank. He graduated in 1967 from Barnstable High School and enlisted in the Army in July of 1968 during the Vietnam War. He thought he would be going with friends to Vietnam, but his orders changed, and he was redirected to Germany. He felt remorse for the atrocities that his friends endured and the shame that was placed upon our service members when they returned home from Vietnam. Billy was a brother of the 6th Battalion, 9th Artillery in the United States Army, European Command: his occupational specialty 13B40 F A CREWMAN (Field Artillery Crewman) and he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Sharp Shooter M-14. He was given the name “Goldilocks” we assume when he arrived at basic training. He was honorably discharged in 1970 as a Sergeant and spent two years in the US Army Reserves.
Billy spent most of his life in Barnstable, MA. living above McManus’s (The Daily Paper) for years as it went through various owners and name changes. He was a constant, having coffee and working the crossword puzzle in the Cape Cod Times before work: it was his daily regimen. He roomed with a handful of guys; Al, John, and Rick to name a few. Billy could be seen traveling the roads of Cape Cod with Tanya, his best friend and companion until the day she died. She was as loyal as a German Shepherd comes. Billy was employed with A&E Forms in Yarmouth for 40 years learning the concrete forms trade and rising to the foreman position: he was proud to pass on his meticulous skills and work ethic to others. He appreciated hanging out with the crew at Tommy’s house, after a grueling day in the hot sun shooting the breeze by the pool.
Billy loved the challenge of Cryptograms, Spades, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Horseshoes, and SCRATCH TICKETS! He was also an avid fan of golf (on the green and the TV) and the New England Patriots and relished a bet or two! He fancied sweets and was often caught sneaking cookies and cupcakes when he thought no one was looking. Billy loved home cooked meals prepared by his sisters and brother-in-law and catching up on family members and their accomplishments. He moved in 2013 to Jonesport, Maine where Willa and Rick resided, a lobster and fishing village much like Barnstable village used to be, yet far away from everything and so many he loved. He spent the last few years of his life in a complex across the way from our eldest sister Linda where they helped each other out. He was happy to see family when they visited and liked to drive across the way, and sit in the car by the ocean, and have a pop and a puff - he said it was his church. So, with that consideration in mind we will release him at the ocean this summer in the village where he grew up with those that he loved so much.
Please bear with us as we process the grief of losing our only brother Winnie, (but always Billy to us) while we plan a celebration for a warm summer day in July…bless you all.

Jeannette C. Peterson - October 27, 1938 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (Biddeford)
Obituary Preview: Obituary of Jeannette Claire Agnello Born October 27, 1938- Died March 11, 2024.
Jeannette Claire (Agnello) Peterson, 85, of Alfred, passed away peacefully on March 11th, 2024 surrounded by her loving children. She was born in New Britain, CT on October 27th, 1938 to proud parents Nunzio and Evelyn Agnello. In 1952 the family moved from New Britain to Southington where Jeannette graduated from Southington High School in 1956. While growing up, Jeannette loved spending time at the family cottage with her parents and sister MaryAnne on Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton, CT. It was there in 1953 that Jeannette met Arnold “Pete” Peterson at Walls Dairy Bar where she worked as a teenager. They fell in love and were married three years later. They went on to have four children, Wendy, James, Christopher, and Eric. The family resided in Southington, East Berlin, and Harwinton, CT, and after a brief move to Crystal Lake, IL settled in Saco, Maine in 1970.
From the time Jeannette learned how to walk, her first love was to dance. At the age of three and into her teens, Jeannette studied ballet at Miss Greenland’s School of Ballet in West Hartford, CT. In her teens she would also travel to New York City to take lessons at Radio City Music Hall and the American School of Ballet. She was a natural to many other disciplines of dancing as well, taking classes and later becoming an instructor at the Lillian Shuval School of Dance. Jeannette subsequently opened and ran her own dance studio in Plantsville, CT in the 1960’s. After moving to Maine, she taught at the Vivian Stacy Dance Studio in Saco, and was a choreographer for the local high school musicals and numerous productions at the Biddeford City Theatre. While in Maine she realized her lifelong dream of dancing professionally when she auditioned and was selected as a member of the dance troop for the Ram Island Dance Company, in Portland. She danced with the company for four years (1970-74). Jeannette was a member of the Dance Masters of America, a guest instructor at the Connecticut Dance Teachers Club, was a member of the Maine Dance Teachers Club, The National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists, and was also an accomplished yoga instructor.
Jeannette and Pete divorced in 1977 and Jeannette stayed in Saco to raise the family. Once all the children were grown, she moved back to CT in 1987 to help her sister care for their parents, Nunzio and Evelyn and to reconnect with family and friends. During those years she vacationed numerous times with her best friend Jan Locke whom she met when the family lived in East Berlin in the early years of her marriage. They remained close until Jan’s passing in 2022, a special friendship that lasted for over 60 years. She was also able to spend more time with her only sibling and “little” sister, MaryAnne, which was very special to her as well. She returned to the arts, working at the Hartford Ballet Company in East Hartford, CT until 2012 when she moved back to Maine to retire and be closer to her children and their families.
Jeannette especially loved her seven grandchildren, never missing a birthday, holiday, or special occasion. She cherished spending time at her daughter Wendy’s home almost every Sunday, playing games, enjoying a family Sunday dinner, and just being close to the people she loved. She greatly enjoyed trips on the train to Boston where her son James would pick her up at the station and take her to dinner and the ballet. She also enjoyed a wonderful trip with him and his family to Punta Cana. Trips to California to visit son Christopher were also very special. She loved attending his choir performances and spending time with him in the California sun. Jeannette enjoyed playing cribbage regularly on “Chinese Food Night” at her home with her son, Eric. She usually won. She enjoyed a good dirty martini “olive juice on the side please”, and would give you anything and everything she had if she thought you were in need.
Being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the spring of 2021 did not slow her down one bit. She fought her disease like she lived her life, with eternal hope, determination, stubborn will, and with fierce devotion to make her time left count. Jeannette was a loving mother and grandmother, an amazing beautiful dancer, a kind soul, and a devoted friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Jeannette is survived by her daughter Wendy Cotsis and husband James of Biddeford, ME, her son James and wife Jan of Billerica, MA, son Christopher and wife Tina of Anaheim, CA, son Eric and wife Ann of Naples, ME, sister MaryAnne Diamond and husband Michael of Middletown, CT, and grandchildren Matthew, Adam, Angela, Kayla, Zachary, Benjamin, and William, niece Heather Diamond and husband Jason, nephew Aaron Diamond, cousins Linda Reffelt, Kenny Agnello, Paul Meluzzo, Barbara Schiller and Patricia Diorio.
Time to pay respects is set for April 7th from 2 to 4 pm at the Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford, Maine. A short service for remembrance of Jeannette will follow at 4pm. All are welcome. A celebration of life will take place in CT this summer followed by a private family service where Jeannette’s ashes will be laid to rest with her parents at Lake View Cemetery in East Hampton, CT.
