Janet Elaine Swinehart - January 11, 1957 - March 02, 2024

Departed: 03/02/2024 (Chesapeake)
Obituary Preview: CHESAPEAKE – Janet E. Swinehart, 67, passed away with her soulmate by her side on March 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 11, 1957 in Allentown, PA, to Clarence Nicholas and Arlene Strunk.
In high school, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Dave. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter Michelle. Janet and Dave built a bountiful life together full of cherished memories. She and her husband Dave celebrated 51 years of marriage this past October. In 1978 she and Dave moved to Virginia. When she was 26 years old, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Following months of prayer, the cancer that was said to be terminal, was defeated. In 1990, she and Dave welcomed their son, Ryan. Janet loved live music and she loved watching her husband’s bands play while dancing at all the shows. Janet’s joy and love for life and experiences led her to start her travel agency, Guardian Travel, in 2003. Over the last 20+ years, she experienced the world, and helped others do the same. She developed several valued friendships with her clients, and she was so proud of the community she was able to build through her passion for travel. When she wasn’t busy traveling to Greece, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, China, or anywhere else, she loved being at home cooking for her family. If she wasn’t a travel advisor, she would have had her own cooking television show teaching everyone how to master the basics of cooking.
Janet had the most joy when she was surrounded by her family. In recent years, she started the Christmas tradition to celebrate in a different place every holiday season. She always filled the rental places with her own Christmas decorations, her own recipes, and had late night Hossie matches. Everyone wanted to be her teammate because she always won.
Janet was beloved by everyone who had the honor to know her. She always had more love to pass around to everyone. She also had a heart for animals. She and her husband rescued their two feral cats Summer and Katie, 8 years ago. She and Dave even wrote and published the book, “Feral Cats Changed Our Lives” detailing their patient and arduous journey of rescuing their precious cats.
Janet was courageous her entire life and stood firmly in her faith, especially during her battle with cancer, twice. She had said that if one person found Jesus through her cancer journey, that is all she hoped for.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence Nicholas and Arlene Strunk, and her sister Joyce Dreisbach. Survivors include; her husband Dave Swinehart, daughter Michelle and her husband Brad Heater, son Ryan and his wife Siara Swinehart, two grandsons; Aaron and Kyle Bancroft; and two sisters, Pat Crossley, and Linda Rohrbach.
She was an integral part of her family and will be missed by her entire family, friends, and anyone who knew her. She had the biggest and brightest personality and lit up every room she entered. She had the best sense of humor and loved hearing everyone’s laughter. Her presence is already missed, but her heavenly reunion is something to smile about. She is now dancing with Jesus and no longer feeling pain and suffering.
Service will be held at Centerpoint Community Church, 253 St. Lukes Church Road, Chesapeake, VA on Saturday March 9th.
