Obituary Preview: Russel M. Sutton, 86, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at his residence. He was born December 8, 1935, In Carlisle to the late Clyde L. and Dorothy (Morrow) Sutton and was the widower of Judith Albright Sutton.
Russel earned his bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College and master’s degree from the University of Shippensburg. He retired from the PA Department of Education where he was a supervisor of teacher’s certification. He taught biology at York Suburban High School.  He also lectured for NASA telling the American space story.  He served as an associate professor for Shippensburg University, Bloomsburg University, and Penn State Harrisburg.  In retirement he worked as tip staff at Cumberland County Court House.  He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for 71 years. He was a member of the Carlisle Exchange Club, founder of the Carlisle Dart League, charter member of the Cumberland County Honor Guard, and a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America.   He was also a member of the Eagles AERIE 1299- Carlisle, AMVETS Post 274- Carlisle, VFW Post 477- Carlisle, American Legion Post 26- Dillsburg, Moose Family Center 761, Elks BPOE 578- Carlisle and the Carlisle Circle Club.
Surviving is his son, Brett Sutton (Darinda) of St. Augustine, Florida; daughter, Jody Sutton Lane (Dennis) of Cumming, Georgia; two grandchildren Nicholas (Lindsay) Lane and Zachary Lane; brother, Clyde Sutton (Cindy) of Carlisle; two nephews, a great niece and great nephew.  Also surviving is his companion Daisy Knaub.

Rosemarie "Sue" McNeely - January 12, 1941 - January 31, 2022

Obituary Preview: Rosemarie “Sue” McNeely, 81, of Boiling Springs, PA, passed away on January 31, 2022, in the Homeland Center, Harrisburg. She was born January 12, 1941, in Dauphin County, to the late Rudolph and Veronica (Trenn) Kleinsak and was the widow of Keith McNeely.
She was a graduate of Central Dauphin High School, class of 1958, and owner/operator of Sue’s Sewing Services. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Carlisle. Sue loved cooking, gardening, traveling and was very charitable with her time.
She is survived by her three stepchildren, Sheri Rice (George), Dawn Weaver (Dwayne), and Charles McNeely; five step-granddaughters and five step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rudolph M. Kleinsak.

Kenneth was a Carlisle High School Graduate, class of 1976 and worked at Zeigler Brothers Feed for 46 years. He was a member of the Upper Adams Fish and Game, Adams County Fish and Game, South Mountain American Legion, Post 674, and the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gardners. He loved his grandchildren, hunting and fishing, and telling jokes.
He is survived by his wife, of 41 years Anne (Scott) Sweitzer of Gardners; children, Karen Bowermaster (Ryan) of Mt. Holly Springs, and Kenneth Jr. (companion, Tracey) of West Virginia; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kamron and Enzo Sweitzer, Lillianna and Paige Bowermaster, and Felicity Britner; sister, Dianne Sweitzer. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Nina Scott, sister-in-laws, Donna Scott and Linda Roberts, niece, Robin Cassatt, and numerous extended family members.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her companion, Joe Utz of Gardners; children, Claude Heflin of Gardners, Lowell Heflin of York, and Rederick Maines of Hummelstown; eight grandchildren, Keria, Claude, Michael, Ava, Dominic, Samara, Oriella, and Nova.

Archpriest Rodion Laskowski - August 31, 1947 - January 27, 2022

Obituary Preview: The Very Reverend Archpriest Rodion Laskowski of Boiling Springs, PA reposed in the Lord Thursday, January 27, 2022, at UPMC Hospital in Carlisle PA. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Matushka Anne Laskowski.
Born to the late Frank Laskowski and Margaret Boga Laskowski in Dunmore PA on August 31st, 1947, where he lived until his graduation from Dunmore High School with Honors class of 1965.
He then attended Duquesne University in Pittsburg for 2 years followed by 4 years at St. Tikhon's Seminary in South Caanan PA where he graduated Magna Cum Lade with what today would be a Master of Sacred Theology! He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 1971 by Archbishop Kipryan of the O.C.A. in St, Tikhon's Church. He then went to serve his first parish in Simpson P.A. from there he served several parishes in NY and CT all while raising his young family and attending Broom College in NY where he received an associate degree in nursing in 1976 and remained an R.N. until his retirement from Carlisle Regional Hospital in 2012.
First and foremost, though Father Rodion was an Orthodox Priest, a loving, devoted husband, and father. Over the years father served many parishes but his heart and home were the Parish of The Three Pillars of Orthodoxy in Carlisle PA where he was the rector for over 30 loving years. He loved and served the church with all that he had for his entire life. Even from a young child father would first go to Liturgy in the mornings before school to serve as an altar boy then take care of the rest of his day.
He was an avid reader, a writer who enjoyed reading his prayers, history, the lives of the saints and he loved to travel the world. He was blessed to go to the Holy Land several times, Greece, Russia, Georgia, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, and Sardinia! He like his father had a special Reverence for Our Lady of Czestochowa and the Holy Child Martyr and Wonderworker Gabriel of Slutsk and Bialystok.
Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years Anne Haladay Laskowski, Daughter Juliana R. Laskowski Hoffman husband Glenn Hoffman, Son Seraphim and wife Dawn Laskowski, Son, Alexis Laskowski, Daughter, Xenia R. Laskowski Fraker and husband Mitch Fraker, and Daughter, Maura R. Laskowski Bricker, and Husband Mark Bricker.  His brother John and wife Maria Laskowski and Sister Mary Margaret and husband Larry Armbruster. He had 12 grandchildren, 5 Nephews, 1 Niece, many cousins, and countless spiritual children.
The public viewing will be Friday at The Pillars of Orthodoxy 350 West Old York Road Carlisle PA 17013 all are welcome from 6:00-9:00 P.M. The Panachida (memorial service) will begin at 7:00 P.M.

He was born on April 2, 1921, in Newport, PA, to the late Ray E. and Margaret (Seiders) Smith and was the widower of Jean N. Smith who passed away on September 8, 2014. They were married on June 3, 1945, for 69 years.
Lester was a retired sheet metal worker with Local 19 and a WWII Army Air Corp. Veteran and was a rear gunner in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Hope Eternal United Methodist Red Hill, Newport, the Newport-Tennis Lodge #381 F&AM, Newport Royal Arch Chapter #238, the Juniata Valley Forest #88, and the Harrisburg Consistory. He loved to work outside in his garden and enjoyed cutting down trees and going to the Perry County fair. He was a handyman and a jack of all trades for his family.
He is survived by his children, Richard E. Smith (Barbara) of Harrisburg and Leon L. Smith (Margie) of Lewistown; four grandchildren, Peter L. Smith of New Cumberland, Brian C. Smith (Fell) of Valley Forge, Heidi Payne (Bill) of Harrisburg, Richelle Sigafoos (Mike) of Harleysville and five great-grandchildren, Travis and Nate Payne, Roman and Mckenna Sigafoos, and Summer Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, J. Carl Smith.

Edward was a Carlisle High School Graduate, Class of 1955 and worked for O’Malley Wood Products, where he worked in equipment maintenance. He loved bowling at Midway Bowling, where he was part of the Monday night Continental League and Wednesday Senior Citizens League. In his younger years, Edward was a Boy Scout in Troop 185, Huntsdale. Edward enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards with family and woodworking around the house, especially making crafts.
Surviving is his loving wife, Jean (Weigle) Williams of Gardners; children, Sandra Schmuck of Jackson, TN Susan Hammaker of Florida, Dave Williams of Newville, and Kenneth Williams of Carlisle; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Harry Williams (companion, Emily), Rosemarie Enrich (Jim), Donn Williams (Bonnie) and Dottie Orris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edwards was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard and Jon Williams.

Brenneman, Ed.D., age 87, passed away Sunday January 23, 2022, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  He was born on June 13, 1934, in Carlisle to the late Lynn G. and Mary Jane (Orr) Brenneman.  He was married to Linda Barner Brenneman for over 50 years, until her death in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Beryl Kines and Helen Jane Wolf and his brothers Lynn Brenneman, Jr., and Kay I. Brenneman.  He leaves son Kail Brenneman of San Diego, California, son Keith Brenneman and daughter-in-law Cheryl (Lang) of Hampden Township, grandsons Cooper of Seattle, Washington and Jack of Boston, Massachusetts, son Kevin Brenneman and daughter-in-law Kimberly (Mancke) of Metuchen, New Jersey and grandsons Keaton and wife Amy (Tang) of Yokosuka, Japan and grandson Kieran of New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Upon graduating from Boiling Springs High School, he attended and graduated from Shippensburg University.  After teaching briefly at Northern High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Army Security Agency for three years.  Following his military service, he taught at Central Dauphin High School for three years. He subsequently became a member of the Cumberland Valley School District staff where he served in a variety of positions: classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of business affairs, assistant superintendent, and ultimately as superintendent for the last 12 years of his 41 years in education.
Dr. Brenneman earned a Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership – Administration and Supervision, from Pennsylvania State University.
His community and professional involvement included service on the Board of Directors for the Amelia S. Given Library, Stevens Center, and the Advisory Board for Cumberland County Children and Youth Services. He was also member or committee person with the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Council, School Board for the Carlisle Area School District, Mt. Holly Springs Municipal Water Authority, Cumberland County Steering Committee for the 250th Celebration, Cumberland County Historical Society Education Committee, West Shore Area of Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, Kiwanis, and the Masons Cumberland Star Lodge No. 197.
A private funeral will be held at the convenience of his family. Edna L. Hawbaker - February 01, 1933 - January 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Edna L. Hawbaker, 88, of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away at home on the evening of January 16, 2022. She was born February 1, 1933, in Mt. Holly Springs to the late Lee M. and Kathleen E. (McLaughlin) Leib.
Edna met her future husband, Jack, as a young teen. They started their life adventure together when they married in 1953 and moved soon after to Alabama and then Georgia for his military service.
After high school, Edna worked as a proofreader for the (Carlisle) Sentinel. Before and after their two years in the South, Edna worked as a secretary at C.H. Masland & Sons in Carlisle and was secretary for the Carlisle Swim Club for many years. Her life’s work, though, was caring for others. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, volunteering in the kids’ schools and cheering them on at sporting events. She also taught Sunday school at the former Salem United Methodist Church in Mt. Holly Springs.
Edna was a voracious reader and, in her spare time, had either a book or crossword puzzle in her hand. She always looked forward to vacations in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and walking for miles every day on the sand. Her sense of humor will continue to make her family smile.
Edna is survived by her husband and best friend of 68 years, John (Jack) F. Hawbaker of Mt. Holly Springs; children Dayn Hawbaker of Newville, Lisa Mason (Jeffrey) of Mechanicsburg, and Jennifer Florer (Michael) of Gettysburg; grandchildren Jason, Christopher, Neil, and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Emily, Kaelyn, Hunter, and Leia. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Leib.
The family gives special thanks to the care team at Grane Hospice, whose dedication helped Edna remain in her home of 52 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.

Richard graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University and his master’s degree from Western Maryland University. He then went on to be an educator and principal in the Cumberland Valley School District from where he retired. He formed and was active in the Amputee Support Team. He was an avid Penn State fan and loved to travel to historic sites. He also loved to volunteer his time in the community. Surviving is his wife, Catherine J. Collier Walters and his sister, Deb A. Cowden and her husband Rick of Newport, PA.

His memberships include, Cumberland County Agricultural Preservation Board, Cumberland County Council of Governments, where he had served as Vice President and President, Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he was the former Vice President, and Big Spring Bulldog Foundation, where he served on the board. Gary was a member of the Dickinson Presbyterian Church and attended the Newville First Church of God. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, loved Penn Township and loved spending time with his family and his three grandsons.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pat (Lay) Martin; daughter, Chris T. Campbell; son, Craig O. Martin; three grandsons, Oliver Martin, Cameron Campbell, and Nathan Campbell; and sister, Mary Beth (Stanley) Nye.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Rd., Newville, PA 17241 with Rev. Wayne Good, Neil McCullough, and Richard Reese officiating. A viewing will be held at 12:00 PM until the time of service and burial will be in the Dickinson Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
