Jim was a longtime resident of Kamiah, ID, having spent a majority of his 69 years residing there with his wife, Shannon, and three daughters: Anne, Rebecca, and Cristin. Family is what he cherished most and despite living with dementia in his final years, his desire to spend time with his family was enduring, only to be outlasted by his love of chocolate.

Jim and siblings Barb and Dave spent their early years in New Martinsville, WV before moving to Pittsburgh, PA, where Jim graduated from Upper Saint Clair High School. Jim spent over 35 years working for the Idaho Department of Lands, starting as a forester, and ending his career as supervisor for the Maggie Creek District. He was an active member of the Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder for many years. His outdoor passions were hunting, camping, and managing his own timber ground. He adored his grandchildren Caleb, Alaina, Dylan, Sylvie, and Maris and hoped to instill in them his love for nature. While quite serious at times, his kindness, generosity, and humor will be the memories most cherished by his family.

Gary Sheldon Scrimsher - December 13, 1937 - April 09, 2024

Departed: 04/09/2024 (Kennewick)
Obituary Preview: Gary Sheldon Scrimsher was the fifth of seven children born to Harry and Mildred Scrimsher. He was a New Year Eve’s baby, being born on December 31, 1937 in Pasco WA. At the time of his birth, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, his family lived in White Bluffs, where his father was a farmer along the Columbia River, about twenty miles north of present-day Richland, Washington. The family was very poor as this was during the great depression. His mother tells the story that when his sister Nancy, who was 18 months younger than Gary, was born, she had to remove one of the two safety pins that held Gary’s diaper together and use it to hold Nancy’s diaper together, as they didn’t have the money to buy more safety pins. In 1943, all the residents of the White Bluffs/Hanford area were ordered by the federal government to pack up their belongings, including livestock, vehicles and what furniture they had, and evacuate the area within thirty days to make way for the Manhattan Project.
The family lived in several places until they finally settled in Prosser in 1943, where Gary grew up and attended all twelve years of school, graduating from High School in 1957. It was there that he met Peggy Parrish and was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in1957. He married Peggy, his high school sweetheart, in 1958. Together, Gary and Peggy were blessed with four children: Michael, Marilyn, Leslie and Rodney. They were sealed for eternity, along with their children, in the Salt lake City Temple in 1966. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year.
Gary’s father was a farmer and Gary inherited his father’s love of the land. As a young man, he worked with his father and brothers on the family farm north of Prosser. As a child, he remembers picking up rocks in the spring each year before planting crops. It seemed like each spring the winter cold pushed a few more rocks to the surface of the soil so this was a never-ending job. He weeded, cultivated and harvested a variety of crops learning hard work at an early age. When his father quit farming with horses, Gary became an especially talented tractor driver. As neighboring farmers saw the straight, even rows that Gary regularly plowed, before GPS, several asked him to work for them. Gary would hurry to get the work done for his father so he could get paid $1/hr. driving tractor for neighboring farmers.
Gary was involved in agriculture, in one way or another, most of his life. He managed a large corporate farm for 24 years, always treating his employees with respect and fairness. He was a problem solver and gained a stellar reputation among others in his field as a man of honesty, integrity, hard work and smart business practice. His grape harvest yield was consistently above the state average because of his attention to detail and timing. He received the WashingtonState Grape Society award for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the Grape industry. He always said that one of the blessings of farming was the opportunity that it gave him to work with and teach his children the value of hard work as they each worked alongside him.
Besides being employed as manager of Snake River Vineyard, a 3,000 acre farm, he started a custom hay operation with his sons, Michael and Rod, which allowed them to earn money for college and church mission expenses. After leaving Snake River Vineyard, he and Peggy planted their own 30-acre apple orchard which he farmed until his retirement in 2011. He also enjoyed flying airplanes, owned his own plane at one time, and had a private, commercial and instrument rating license.
Gary loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He faithfully served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings. He and Peggy were ordinances workers in the Columbia River, served as CES missionaries in the tropical islands of Tonga, teaching Tongan youth skills to help prepare them for a better future. They also served a service mission at the Home Food Storage Center here in Kennewick. Gary seemed to be able to fix anything and, with those skills, served for four years on the church maintenance crew, helping to service and maintain Church buildings from Kennewick to Selah. Gary was known in his neighborhood as the man who could fix irrigation systems or repair whatever needed to be repaired. He also volunteered as a driver, delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly for many years.
After living in Burbank, WA for 33 years and selling their apple orchard in 2011, when Gary retired, he and Peggy moved to Kennewick where son in-law, Ira, built them a new home next to their youngest son and his wife. He didn’t slow down until in his eighties when his body gradually began to fail him.
The last three months he moved gently towards death with courage and acceptance. The hardest part was that he could no longer be productive. He chose to be grateful rather than complain and kept his sense of humor to the end. Gary was the type of man that, once you met him, you didn’t forget him. He was well-versed in many subjects and truly never met a stranger. His son once said, “It’s really interesting to go shopping with dad because he talks to everyone as though he has known them for years.”
Gary passed away peacefully in his home in Kennewick, surrounded by family on April 9, 2024 .
He leaves behind his wife, Peggy, whom he adored, four children; Michael Scrimsher (Wendy) of Burbank, WA. Marilyn Smith (Terry) of Redding, CA, Lesie Hickman (Ira) of Kennewick, WA, and Rod Scrimsher (Angie) also of Kennewick, 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, sister Nancy Marrs of Yakima, WA., numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024~11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10376 Ridgeline Drive, Kennewick, Washington with a viewing prior from 10:00-11:00am. Graveside service will follow at the Prosser Cemetery.

Giovanni Guadalupe Hernandez Pina - July 27, 1991 - April 01, 2024

Departed: 04/01/2024 (Kennewick)
Obituary Preview: Giovanni “Gio” Guadalupe Hernandez-Piña was born on Saturday, July 27th, 1991, in Yakima, WA. He entered into the glory and light of eternal peace on April 1, 2024. He was 32 years old. He is survived by his parents Urbie and Gloria Piña, his brother Sisto (Lexi) Piña, brother Junior (Lacey Zerb) Piña, nieces Santana and Maverick Piña, nephew Dru Piña, his grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Giovanni was raised in the Tri-Cities, WA, beginning elementary school in Pasco where he attended Mark Twain Elementary School. He later moved with his family to Kennewick during his 2nd grade year and remained in Kennewick, graduating from Kamiakin High School in 2010.
From the time Giovanni was a baby, his smile lit up any room he was in. He was an outgoing, articulate, and very friendly child. Gio never met a stranger. As a little boy he would instantly make friends at any playground or social event he was at. He would tell his parents that he was going to go play with his “friend”, and when asked what his friend’s name was, he would pause to think and say, “I don’t know. He’s my friend”. Then throw up his arms and take off running to play. He never outgrew this. His family can recall countless times that Gio would meet someone new and tell them about his friend but did not know their name because he didn’t catch it during their interaction.
It was easy to see that Gio was naturally athletic as soon as he could walk. He was excellent at roller blading, skateboarding, bike riding, basketball, football, wrestling, long-distance running and anything else he decided to try. Wrestling was his sport of choice to focus on and he led the way for his family to follow him. If Giovanni was doing it, his brothers wanted to do it too and oh how they adored him. Gio was selected to travel to Holland where he wrestled and was an ambassador for Team USA for the People-to-People program when he was 14 years old. He went on to be a Greco State Champion in the Spring of 2009 and wrestled at two community colleges for a short time.
Giovanni loved his family big and was their fiercest protector. He was so proud of his brothers and loved them with everything he had. This love carried on to his two nieces and nephew. He beamed when he looked at them with such pride and would sit to play whatever they asked, whenever they asked. He was never too cool to be silly with them.
In adulthood, Gio worked various jobs in customer service and flooring work. It did not matter what the job was at the time, Gio was all about it and engulfed himself in that role. Giovanni loved the comradery of a team and if he was on your team he was all in. In recent years, he found a love for cooking and took immense pride in his work.
Gio loved to do anything that allowed him to be busy using his hands. He loved to whittle on pieces of wood, collect and polish stones, disassemble his thrift shopping finds to make something out of nothing, collect sports cards, and anything else that would catch his interest. He was a stand-up guy who did not like to see anyone bullied, disrespected or done wrong. If he saw it, he did not hesitate to step in and say something, no matter the consequence. He did this for his family, friends and new “friends” alike. He was a good man and will be missed immensely by all but especially us, his family, who will forever be missing a piece of our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 12th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Richland Community Center 500 Amon Park Drive, Richland WA.

Tony Wise - August 27, 1975 - March 14, 2024

Departed: 03/14/2024 (Kennewick)
Obituary Preview: Tony Wise, 48, passed away amongst family at his childhood home in Kennewick on March 14th after a long battle with cancer. He lost his mother and brother before him – Gloria and Terry Wise. He leaves behind his wife Jaime; daughter Livia; father Larry, sister Larissa, many close friends and relatives, and about half of the Tri-Cities and beyond if you count all the people who knew and loved him. He was born on August 27th, 1975. Once at a middle school rally, Tony introduced himself as “Joe Cool” – and he was. (Maybe not that day but soon after.) Tony was involved in too many things to mention them all, but he made friends wherever he went. He graduated from Kennewick High in 1993. Baseball was his sport and a big part of his life. He played from little league to the adult league – “First Base, No. 27, Tony Wise!” There were championships, almost championships, and a million stories that could better be told by his many teammates over the years (and to a smaller audience.)
His college career started in Pasco at CBC, moved southeast to Georgia, then back to Ellensburg, and after some time in Lake Tahoe dealing cards, Tony got his degree in “Leisure and Recreation Management.” Back in Kennewick, Tony soon became a basketball official (something his father also did when he was young) refereeing high school games for over twenty years. He climbed the ranks in the association and was ranked #1 as an official more than once. Even when Tony became too sick to referee himself, he often watched from the stands to help out the newer officials.
As his father retired, Tony took over management of the family business, Tri-City Glass in Kennewick. He connected with many people in the area through Tri-City Glass, not only through business and overseeing the many friends (and sometimes vagabonds passing through) who worked there but by giving to the community – sponsoring players, kids sports teams, and giving to/getting involved in local charity events.
On September 27th, 2007, in a small Las Vegas ceremony surrounded by close friends and family, Tony married his wife, Jaime, and gained parents-in-laws Dan and Arlene Silinovich and sister-in-law Jessica Serrano. Tony and Jaime added to their family with the birth of their daughter Livia in 2015. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and could often be seen with Jaime and Liv at the waterpark, the playground, the trampoline park and later at Livia’s many team sports games, even becoming a coach when the team was in need. When you were with him, it wasn’t unusual for Tony to get stopped by someone for a brief conversation only to learn afterwards that he knew them from the gas station he sometimes stopped by, or the bagel shop, or the “mocha milkshake” shop. When Tony was little he often walked around with his hand up by his armpit like he had a little wing –
probably just practice for later when he had his mitt on that hand. He was annoyingly quick to pick up things… like video games, flying drones, and riding 4-wheelers. His cousin Annie named her cat after him. He hated it if you tried to pop his toes. He loved animals more than he let on. He loved Sunday spaghetti. He loved messing with his mom. He loved being “Uncle Tony.” He loved watching Livia play with her cousins. He loved his little girl, his wife, his family, and his many close friends.
Tony only became better with age. The world is a sadder place with him having left it so soon. Joe Cool was easy to love. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 4:00-8:00pm at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremation, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick, WA. Graveside services will be on Saturday, March 30th ~ 1:00pm at City View Cemetery, 1300 N. Oregon Ave., Pasco, WA.
