Bernard Charles Goldsmith, Sr. - March 30, 1937 - April 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: CW3 Bernard C Goldsmith Sr., Ret. Passed away on April 20, 2024. Bernie was born on March 30, 1937 in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late Elmer Bernard Goldsmith and the late Helen Irene Raber Goldsmith. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Bernard Jr., sisters, Karol Seewald and Joanie Haynes, brother Gerry Allen Goldsmith, great grandson, Reagan Wesson Fuller, brother-in-law, Philip Fields and sister-in-law Betty Butler, & several beloved nephews who were gone too soon.
Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, United States Air Force, Michigan Army National Guard and the Georgia Army National Guard. He was a Korean war veteran, although he always said he came in at the end of it and didn’t get to participate. He placed in the top 20 of the Michigan Governor’s match and served as coach and captain of the winning team of the Muskegon Big Wheels National Guard rifle team. He also received the Georgia State Medal of Valor for saving the life of a fellow guardsman, and a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical warfare Military Achievement medal. Bernie loved serving his country in the United States Armed Forces, but his first love was the Marine Corps. He was once and always a Marine. (Semper Fi) He retired from the Georgia Army National Guard with a total of 39 combined years of service. If he could have, he would have served until his death. He was a true American Patriot and he loved his country.
He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in the boy scouts where he was inducted into the order of the arrow at 14 years of age. He belonged to the National Rifle Association, the National Muzzle Loaders Association, the Muskegon Michigan Bowman’s club where he placed in the state championship shooting instinctive, and he rode his motorcycle for the Lord with the Christian Motorcycle Association Club for many years. He also retired from Williams Printing Company in Atlanta, Georgia with 21 years of service.
He married the former Sherry Ann Fields on November 2, 1968 and they spent 55+ hard, but good years together. Bernie was a faithful member of New Genesis Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia for 12 years, and had just recently started attending Gateway Baptist Church in Douglasville. He loved his church and his Pastors and made sure he was in church every time he could be. He loved and served his Lord and Savior, taking every chance he could to tell someone about the Lord and what He had done for him. He was funny, and silly and could make anybody laugh.
Bernie is survived by his wife, daughters Amanda (Emory) Burnum and Jodie Huddleston, sons Andrew Mark Goldsmith (Mandy), Donald Steven Goldsmith, grandchildren, Bonnie (Brett) Fuller, Allison (Michael) Pellerin, Hollie (Wilber) Rodriguez, Sierra (Cody) Wiley, Haley Goldsmith, Drew Goldsmith, Adam (Kylie) Rains, Emory Burnum Jr., (Maddie), Randy (Liz) Burnum, Wyatt Huddleston, Jesse Huddleston, Paxton Goldsmith, Stephen (Devan) Goldsmith, Donald Goldsmith Jr, Cassandra Goldsmith and Dylan (Jesselee) Goldsmith, 35 great grandchildren, sisters in law, Elaine Trout and Kathy Fields, brothers in law, John Fields (Dovie, which he affectionally called Puffy) Tommy Fields (Vernice), and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that if you have silly or funny socks that you wear them to the funeral home in his honor.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at the funeral home at 3:00 pm with Pastor Lloyd Latham and Pastor Josh Agan officiating.
Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville, Georgia.

Wilma graduated from Harrison High School in Harrison, Ohio, class of 1954. She retired in 2001 after more than 20 years as an accountant at Fuqua Capital Corporation. Wilma attended South Cobb Baptist Church where she wrote and printed Sunday bulletins and visited shut-ins. She enjoyed crafts, scrap-booking, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilma is survived by her sister, Iva Jeanette Long; daughter, Janelle Hetisimer Goggins (Neal); grandchildren, Leah Michelle Hetisimer, Michael David Hetisimer (Haley), Brileylynn Grace Hetisimer, Dawn Gundlach (George), J Scott Fowler (Samantha); great-grandchildren, Michael James “Tripp” Gay, Kade Gundlach (Katerina), Elizabeth Gundlach (Corey), Marissa Griggs, Gaberial Fowler; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wilma was also preceded in death by her spouse, Bobby Ray Tinsley; son, Michael Andrew Hetisimer; step-daughter, Sharon Fowler; step-son in law, James Fowler; sister, Wanda Jean Kaiser; brother, Dennis Eugene Rudisell; and father of her child, Cecil Maurice Hetisimer.

Obituary Preview: Bettie Christine Carter, 87, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024.
Bettie was born on December 2, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri to Floyd James and Josephine (Davis) James.
Bettie attended schools in Carthage through her Junior year where she participated in the Marching Band. Bettie moved before her Senior year to California, and graduated from Newport Harbor Union High School in 1954. After graduating she returned to Carthage, and worked at Big Smith in the accounting department.
She married Ray Harris Carter in July, 1956. They briefly lived in Colorado and Joplin before returning to Carthage in August, 1967. Bettie and Ray divorced in December, 1973. She worked as a bookkeeper at Moorehouse Sales and Service, Inc. and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage.
In 1977, she moved her family to Austell, Georgia. She worked at Austell Box Board / Caraustar Industries, Inc. for 22 years in the payroll and benefits department, before taking early retirement in 1999.
During retirement, Bettie became an accomplished artist with a preference for oil painting. She participated in many local fairs and craft shows selling her art and winning competition ribbons.
She traveled extensively with her sister to Panama, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and parts of Europe. She loved animals and had many pets throughout her life. She especially loved horses, returning to riding in her early 80’s.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Margaret Ann Carter, sister and brother in law, Violet Joann and Gary Dennison.
Survivors include son, David (Jennifer) Carter of Powder Springs, Georgia; daughter, Diana (Todd) Miller of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Cole Miller, Sarah Miller and Jada Carter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday April 21, 2024 at Exodus Ranch, Douglasville, Georgia.
Interment of ashes will be at Kenney Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri.
