Don Franklin Cooper - November 24, 1932 - June 21, 2022

Departed: 06/21/2022 (Antioch)
Obituary Preview: Don Franklin Cooper was called to reside with his Lord on June 21, 2022. Despite  his deteriorating health in his 89th year, Don was slowed but remained busy and  active in maintaining and caring for his Crescent City home. When Don was called  from this life, like his many years before, he was busy at work, mowing his lawn.  Don was known as a man who could devise any method to complete almost any  job. Don was constantly remodeling and repairing his home, using his cleverness  and on his own schedule. He told stories of how he devised ladders, scaffolding,  steps, seats, and other devices to allow for his work during his elder years.
Don Franklin Cooper was born during the depression on November 24, 1932, at  Stapp, Le Flore County, Oklahoma. For most of his life, he was called “Frank,” but  after he was married, he preferred to be called “Don.” Don’s formative years,  during the depression, were an era of challenge for his parents and siblings. Although he was a government employee, his father’s employment was touch and  go for many of those years. Don, born the fourth of nine children, was surrounded  by siblings – all in the same “depression-era boat” of family frugality and wanting.  Unfortunately, three of his siblings never lived beyond childhood.
Don’s father, Omar Cooper, a U.S. Forest Service employee, lived and worked in  and around the Ouachita National Forest of Arkansas and Oklahoma. The family  frequently moved, resulting in Don attending several Polk and Scott County (Arkansas) schools. Don was the only family member born in Oklahoma.
In school, Don did better playing softball than studying. He loved softball and  baseball and jokingly said, “I hit lots of home runs. But the schools I attended were  small and had few players; when I ran home, I was batting again.” Don and his  family lived in Mena, Polk County, Arkansas, until he was nine years old, then  moved to Waldron in nearby Scott County.
After finishing school and as a boy, Don worked in the Ouachita National Forest of  Arkansas, cutting and peeling timber. In 1950, at the age of 17, he came with his  parents and family to Contra Costa County, California. When the family was  transitioning to move and live in California, Don and his family worked in the  cotton fields of Texas and the fruit orchards of California.
He was the typical mischievous boy in Arkansas, smoking and chewing tobacco.  Once, he got into trouble and had to pay for a billboard he and his brother  destroyed with rocks. But they managed to get away with a few stolen  watermelons and other Arkansas antics. In California, in his youth, Don was  known to have drank a little beer and participated in a few fist fights but mostly  loved to own and drive cars, as well as “arm wrestle” and cut up with his brothers. Don’s sister Joyce married and left Arkansas when Don was eleven years old, so  his sibling influence was all boys. Don was the middle son of the three older boys, so his brothers Charles and Joe, being the calmer boys, pretty much “accepted Don  as the head rabble-rouser, prankster and in some cases bully.” After the family  moved to California, Don and the older boys were practically the adults for Jimmy  and Gary, the two little brothers.
Don was known for his serious and emotional feelings. He loved his family and the  history they lived. He was also known for his giddiness and laugh-out-loud joyfulness. He is remembered for his quietness, laughter, and antics, where he told  stories and “snickered” out loud, laughing and snorting through his nose, leaning  back and tossing his head around.
Don is also remembered for the slow speed at which he completed tasks, and  ventures, where he was notoriously always late and the last to arrive and stubborn  enough to do the opposite of the norm. This was the Don his family knew, loved,  and expected.
Don was called to the service of his country from 1953-1955 in the U.S. Army. He  received his training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and served in post-war Korea with  the U.S. Army, 231st Engineers Combat Battalion. Don arrived in Korea when the  armistice was signed and helped rebuild a war-torn country. He returned from the  service, rejoined his family in Antioch, and returned to his job at U.S. Steel. He  married Shirley Dunham in October 1956 and began their family of three children,  David, Debbie, and Linda. Don and Shirley divorced in 1971. Don was a steelworker for over 30 years in Contra Costa County. He retired from  USS-Posco Steel in Pittsburg and moved to Crescent City in 1992. In Crescent  City, he fulfilled his dream of driving a truck and working for another ten years,  fully retiring with his wife, Clara, in Crescent City, California. After Clara died in
In 2005, Don married Marshia Loar Ward in 2008. Marshia and Don happily lived in  Crescent City. Before Marshia’s death, Don was her caregiver, tirelessly providing  care until she died in 2020.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Pearl (Garrison) Cooper, four  siblings, Omar Dale, Lamar, Margie Ann, Jimmy Curtis, Charles Clinton Cooper, and brother-in-law, Bob Crump. He was preceded in death by his three wives Shirley Ann  Dunham Cooper, Clara Jane Thuesen Cooper, Marshia Helene Loar Cooper, son  David Franklin Cooper, daughter Deborah “Debbie” Jean Cooper, and  granddaughter Jaime Lee Cooper.
Don is survived by his daughter, Linda Renee Kite, and husband, Richard  Sr., and his two grandchildren Richard Lee Kite, Jr., and Cassandra  “Cassie” Nicole Morales (Ryan). And his two great-grandchildren, Autumn  Morales and Colton Morales.
Two brothers survive Don, Joe (Barbara) of Depoe Bay, Oregon, and Gary (Linda) of Orting, Washington, and his sister, Joyce Crump of McMinnville, Oregon, sister in law Vicki Cooper, as well as several nephews, nieces, and cousins,  and their families.
His family will forever miss Don and his reminiscing phone calls and visits. According to his wishes, Don will be buried next to his wife Clara Jane and in  proximity to other family members at Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery,  Antioch.

As a young teen, Betty moved with her parents to Rodeo, CA, and attended John Swett High School in Crockett where she met her first husband, Paul Milliken. After graduating, they married and started their family of four daughters: Helene, Darlene, Paulene and Marlene. They resided in Martinez for many years until retirement, then moved to a farm in Bethel Island where Betty and Troy welcomed family and friends to Rhynes Acres for the next 20 years. While there, they celebrated holidays, family barbeques, and outdoor activities at the farm surrounded by loved ones and all their animals, making for the most memorable years of their life together. Following the loss of her beloved husband Troy in 1999, Betty began an independent life pursing local activity and making many new friends. Through these friendships, she was kept busy with volunteerism at Bethel Island Women’s Club, Lions Club, and the Red Hat Society. In addition to enjoying her philanthropic adventures with friends, Betty enjoyed playing golf and traveling to new places. Roy James Sherfield - September 10, 1938 - May 22, 2022

Departed: 05/22/2022 (Antioch)
Obituary Preview: Roy James Sherfield (Jim) Our beloved Father, Grandfather, and loving friend passed away on May 22, 2022.  He was 83 years old. Jim was an amazingly loving father to Carrie, Allen and Michael. He was also the most wonderful grandfather to Brandon, Breanne and Madison and beloved friend to so many. Jim was born September 10th 1938 in Riverside CA.  To loving parents Roy and Juanita Sherfield. Jim would make Brentwood CA his childhood home town and graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1957.  A few years after high school Jim would serve in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. Although Jim was born in 1938 his life didn’t begin until 1961 when he married the LOVE of his life Dorothy Porter. Jim and Dorothy had met at a local dance held in Tracy CA.  It was LOVE at first sight, as for anyone who has heard the story, Jim just had to ask Dorothy for a dance! They would dance together for the next 60 years as loving husband and wife.  They married on August 12, 1961 and would move to Roswell, New Mexico during his military career. In 1962 Jim would welcome into his world his daughter Carrie. Jim loved being a father and would expand his family once his Air Force career was over. Jim would move his family back to California, this time to Antioch.  Antioch is where he would plant his roots and make his home for the remainder of his life. Jim and his loving wife Dorothy would welcome oldest son James in 1967 followed by their youngest son Michael in 1974. After serving in the military Jim would go on to work in the airline business. Jim worked for World Airways, Southern Air Transport, and Alaska Airlines where he would retire as an Inspection Supervisor. His family and friends will have many fond memories that include his favorite sayings, “Tomorrow Never Comes” or the funny way he’d say no…” We’ll See”, him always whistling Zippity Do Dah, or all the practical jokes he’d play.  Jim loved to play jokes on people!!  One practical joke almost got the best of Jim though.  It was famously said that upon proposing to Dorothy, Jim wanted to joke with her. He had Dorothy’s engagement ring and of course wanted to give it to her, but Jim being the jokester he was, didn’t initially ask for Dorothy’s  hand in marriage . He went up to her and asked for his class ring back, saying he was going to need that ring back. Before Jim could ask for her hand Dorothy took off the class ring and threw it at him in anger, she thought Jim was breaking up with her.  He quickly had to stop joking and present her with the engagement ring and explained, I only wanted to switch them!!! Jim loved many things in life, his 1962 Corvette, collecting old baseball cards, collecting liquor decanters and of course traveling. Whether it was going on one of many cruises to Mexico, Alaska, the Caribbean, or Hawaii, going to the casinos, Disneyland, or driving to Arizona to pick up one of those decanters.  He always just wanted to spend time with his family, they were the most important thing to him. He took pleasure in just having a great conversation, whether over a holiday meal, on a camping trip, or just sitting around. Jim would enjoy his daily conversations he had with his father while he was still alive. Jim made it a routine to stop by his fathers house to have these treasured conversations over a Pepsi and Snickers they both loved. Jim will always be remembered as a loving and supportive family man and for that smile he always had on his face. Jim is proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents Roy Sherfield and Juanita Hampton, brother Johnny, son Michael, and granddaughter Madison. Jim is survived in death by his daughter Carrie Jacka husband Rick, son Allen Sherfield and wife Denise, grandchildren Brandon and Breanne, sisters Sandra and Kathy. Jean Enea - February 07, 1926 - April 04, 2022

Departed: 04/04/2022 (Antioch)
Obituary Preview: Jean Cerri Enea February 7, 1926 – April 4, 2022
Jean passed away peacefully Monday morning April 4th after struggling with dementia for several years. It was the culmination of a life filled with great love, laughter, family, friends, food, and hosting more parties than you can count. She is reunited with the love of her life, and husband of 49 years, Ted.
Jean was born in Wallingford Connecticut in 1926, on what she claims was the coldest day of the year. She never warmed up and despised the cold her entire life.  She moved to San Francisco with her family as a child. She lived in a flat above a drugstore not far from the Marina with her extended family that included her parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and sister.
She enjoyed all that the City had to offer, including roller skating up and down the many hills, visiting the sweet shop with her sister Barbara, and bowling and hanging out with her beloved father. She also learned to cook from her extended family and passed that love of good food and cooking onto her children.
Jean began her first job at the age of 16, polishing jewelry at Carrou and Green Jewelers, and after she graduated from St. Bridgette’s high school in 1944, she went to work for the Pacific Bell Company.
Shortly after that, she met Ted, and in 1946 they were married. They moved to Antioch, where they would both become very active members of the community. Ted, along with his brothers and father began Enea Dairy, while Jean remained at home and cared for their growing family.
She was very active in local groups, including the Antioch Women’s Club, where she served as president, the YLI, of which she remained a member until her death, and served on the PTA of Holy Rosary School. Later, following her passion for golf, she joined the 18 hole women’s golf club, and the Delta Divots 9 hole club, where she served as captain of each on three occasions, as well as the unofficial party hostess.
She will also be remembered by friends and family for her ability to write poetry, both beautiful and funny, for any occasion, and her beautiful piano playing. She wrote a song for her beloved Ted after his passing, which she would play for anyone who asked. It later served as the background music to one of her granddaughter’s weddings.
Together they raised four children, Laura Jacques, Marta Forst, Ted Enea Jr., and Julie Perry. Their family expanded further with the addition of sons and daughter in law, the late Richard Jacques, Mitch Perry and Beth Enea. They had six grandchildren, Chris Jacques, Jeremy Cozakas, Jennifer Gantz, Alex Perry, Kayte Fontillas and Samantha Spokas. She also had six great grandchildren with another expected in June. Jean’s wish for her celebration of life was very clear. This is her request, in her words. “Please don’t wear black to my service. I will have finished my life on earth, and I would like to renew my life with Ted in Heaven. Let it be a colorful and happy time. I have been blessed with our wonderful family and friends here on earth. Smile and be glad for me.”
Services will be held April 25th at Most Holy Rosary Church, 1313 A Street, Antioch at 10:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at her beloved Lone Tree Golf Course.
Special Thanks to the staff at the Commons at Dallas Ranch for caring for her for over five years, and to Navi, Jinder and staff at Zannat Boarding Care for making her transition one of loving and caring.
