William Kaliski - March 09, 1933 - April 17, 2024

Departed: 04/17/2024 (Blue Island)
Obituary Preview: William F. Kaliski
March 9, 1933 to April 17, 2024.
William “Bill” Kaliski, age 91, of Blue Island, IL was finally reunited with his beloved late wife of 64 years, Loretta (nee Kaczmarek) on April 17, 2024.  He was a devoted and loving father to his surviving children, Robert (Katie) Kaliski, Ellen (Dan) Shwatal and Debbie Prawiec and a caring and proud grandfather to Amy (Mark) Mantyla, Laura Kaliski, Kellen McDonald, Austin Shwatal, Maddie Shwatal and Nathan Shwatal. He is also survived by his brother, Tom (Barb) Kaliski.  He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Walter Kaliski, his brother Leonard, his sister Alice and his children Mary Ann and Steven. He was a loving uncle and great uncle to many. He was affectionately known as Uncle Bill and Dzia Dzia (a version of “grandpa” in Polish).
Kind, generous, funny, helpful, loyal, reliable, a family man, a lover of nature (especially bees) and food are how many people have described Bill. He was born on March 9, 1933 in Blue Island, the second son of Walter and Mary Kaliski. He attended St. Isadore grade school and Community/ Eisenhower High School. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 as a radio operator. He worked as a printer and in the paint shop at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant. He lived only 3 houses away from his childhood sweetheart, Loretta Kaczmarek. They were married on November 8, 1958 and started their married life and family in the apartment above Loretta’s parents’ house, then moved across the alley in 1967. Bill lived most of his 91 years in less than a square block!
They had four wonderful biological children and then added a foster daughter, Debbie in 1982.
Bill loved to garden, make wine and beer, keep bees, go fishing with his brother, Leonard, play cards and volunteer at church as an usher, at bingo, at the fish fry and making pies and pizza. He was always willing to help in any way he could, always with a smile.  Bill and Loretta enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Fish Lake, Indiana and go on adventures to state parks.
His greatest achievement was being Loretta’s anchor. She could not have done all the wonderful things she did if it not for him driving her there, chopping food, taking care of her when she was sick and, generally letting her do what she wanted without complaint. He was her right-hand man.
Still waters run deep, they say. He was a quiet man but full of wisdom and laughter. He used to say, “If money can solve your problems, you really don’t have any problems.” Every person he met, he would ask, “Got any good jokes?” If you didn’t, he would pull out one of his own that would make you either laugh or groan.
His memory will live on in our hearts and we hope you will follow his example to tell a joke, volunteer to help, and take care of nature.

Benjamin J. Czachura - July 12, 1925 - January 12, 2024

Departed: 01/12/2024 (Blue Island)
Obituary Preview: Benjamin Joseph Czachura July 12, 1925 - January 12, 2024
Ben was born in Posen, IL to Agnes (Labno) and John Czachura, the youngest of nine boys (John, Casey, Mickey, Ted, Bill, Al, Joe and Frank).  He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and Thornton High School.  Ben enlisted in the Navy after high school and served 2.5 years during World War II, assigned to an LCI(L) ship in the Pacific (Philippines), and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. (Special Note:  During WWII, 5 of the brothers served in the military at the same time, including Ben.)   After his discharge, Ben returned to Posen and attended barber school.  He went to work at Manfred’s Barbershop on Western Avenue in Blue Island in the early 1950’s.  After mens’ short haircuts fell out of fashion in the early 1970s, Ben left the barbering profession in 1973 and went to work as a custodian at Eisenhower High School until his retirement in 1987.
Ben met his future wife Virginia Myksin during Jerry and Eleanor Zimny’s wedding where they both were members of the wedding party.  After a short romance, Ben and Virginia were married in November 1953 and purchased a house in Blue Island.  They had four children:  Susan (Billy) in 1954, Barry (Leigh) in 1956, Judith (Ed) in 1960 and Janet in 1963.  Family life included an array of pets over the years:  parakeets, ducks, Jerry the gerbil who waited for a treat every night from Ben after work and the beloved family dog, Teeny. The last pet was Ben’s adopted kitten named Perky who spent countless hours on his lap and provided years of companionship.
As his children went off to school, got married or left the family home, Ben and Virginia started traveling with friends and enjoyed many vacations, including celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in 1978.  A few special trips were made to Poland where Ben was fortunate enough to visit many of his parents’ relatives whom he communicated with until his death.  One of the high points of Ben’s later travels was the Honor Flight Chicago trip he went on joined by his son Barry.  The Honor Flight flies veterans to Washington DC to visit the World War II monument as well as others in our nation’s capitol.
Ben LOVED playing games, whether it was card games or board games he loved them all !!!  He enjoyed laughing and making others laugh with his jokes and stories and being the life of the party. He had many interests including flowers, baking (particularly cookies), visiting and helping his family and friends.  He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.  He often gave haircuts at home to his family and to friends who were unable to make it to the barbershop.  He was warm, compassionate and generous with his time and brought joy to many people.
Ben was devoted to his wife and family.  Their annual family vacation was a trip to a cottage at Silver Lake Resort in Wild Rose, WI. Ben spent hours with his children on the beach building sand castles, swimming, row boating and taking them on their first airplane ride (small 4 seat plane that landed in the field).  A special part of those vacations was the time spent at the farm of Virginia’s cousins, Stanley and Doris Mykisen. The family experienced true farm life including hand picking corn and pickles.  Unforgettable evenings were spent with the Mykisen family (Greg, Sharon, Ken, Marty, Jimmy, Sandy, Janice and Gene) playing rowdy games of Spoons around the table with Ben right in the middle.
Ben dearly loved his mother Agnes and visited her almost daily until her death in 1981.  Most of his brothers and their families, also lived near by in Posen, IL.  He enjoyed a close relationship with his cousin Dorothy Erdman, nephews and nieces including John’s children (Reinny and Leah), Casey’s children ((John and Pat Krizik), Richie and Sandra), Mickey’s children ((David and Sally), Bob, Steve and Amy),  Al’s children ((Alex and Jackie), Agnes, and (Maryann and Don Robinson)).  He had also been close with Virginia’s family, her parents Stephen and Frances Myksin, her brother and his wife, Arnold and Reggie Myksin, and her sister and her husband, Pat and Ed Harast, along with the nieces and nephews, Barbara, Stephen, Michael, Tracy and Scott.
After Virginia’s death in September 2000, Ben remained in his Blue Island home until the maintenance and upkeep became too much to handle.  He moved in 2007 to a condominium in Crestwood, IL where he made many new friends over the years.  He participated in senior activities including swimming classes at the Crestwood Recreation Center and became close friends with Dave Crook, and Phyllis and Bruno Panek.
Ben’s final years beginning in March 2021 were spent at the Illinois Veterans Administration Nursing Home Facility in Manteno, IL where he was visited often by friends and family.  His cell phone kept him in touch with those farther away, including his only living brother, Frank in California and his extend family in Poland with calls every couple of months.  He spent hours working his puzzles, reading and enjoying his candy.  Cared for primarily by his daughter Judy and her husband Ed, Ben spent the winter of his life happy and well cared for.
Ben was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.  He lived close to 99 years old and witnessed so many world events:  wars, the depression, automation, industrialization, the technical age,  to name a few.  His absence will be felt by many and he will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.

Loretta Kaliski - November 26, 1933 - June 20, 2023

Departed: 06/20/2023 (Blue Island)
Obituary Preview: Loretta T. Kaliski (nee Kaczmarek)
November 26, 1933 to June 20, 2023.
Loretta T. Kaliski (nee Kaczmarek), age 89, of Blue Island, IL passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023. She is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 64 years. She was a devoted and affectionate mother to her surviving children, Robert (Katie) Kaliski, Ellen (Dan) Shwatal and Debbie Prawiec, and caring and proud grandmother to Amy (Mark) Mantyla, Laura Kaliski, Kellen McDonald, Austin Shwatal, Maddie Shwatal and Nathan Shwatal. She was preceded in death by her dear parents Anna and Peter Kaczmarek, brothers Peter, Raymond and Alfred, and her beloved children Mary Ann and Steven. She was a loving aunt and great aunt to many and a foster mother and grandmother to everyone. She was affectionately
known as Auntie Rettie and Buscia (a version of “grandma” in Polish). Loretta was born on November 26, 1933 in Blue Island, the only daughter of Peter and Anna and the apple of her father’s and brothers’ eyes. She attend St. Isadore grade school and Community/Eisenhower High School. She worked as a secretary and a piano teacher and had many fun adventures with her friends until she and Bill, her neighbor, married on November 8, 1958. Together, they lived in the apartment above her parents' house and then moved across the alley. They had four wonderful biological children and then added a foster daughter, Debbie, in 1982. Loretta and her sister- in-law, Clotilda Kaliski, had a very successful cake decorating business for many years and made thousands of wedding, birthday, graduation and Christening cakes for almost everyone in the family and the neighborhood. She made her children’s childhoods fun with crafts and homemade playdough, adventures to nature centers and parks and summers at the cottage on Fish Lake, IN. She volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader and at St. Isadore. She also worked as a crossing guard, school cook at Blue Cap School and Mother of Sorrows High School and then as a mortgage processor for Concordia Bank and
Fleet Mortgage. When she wasn’t working to help support her family, she was an avid reader, passionate gardener, lover of music, theater and nature, seamstress and crafter. After her children went off to find their way in the world, she and Bill would spend time at the cottage and go on adventures to state parks. Loretta also
loved spending time with her many dear long-time friends and relatives. Loretta was always available to talk to anyone at any time. Her advice was always wise and on point. She was the voice of reason and a shoulder to cry on. To many people, she was a therapist, a social worker, a
confessor and a mom. Whatever you needed, if she could give it, she would. She never met a charity she didn’t like. She was the first to buy whatever anyone was selling for a fundraiser, make a basket for a charity, buy raffle tickets or attend an event. She was always up for an adventure and never passed up an opportunity to
have fun. She loved giving and going to parties. She loved good food and, especially, ice cream. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved being called Buscia, not only by her biological grandchildren, but all children. From flying out every chance she had to visit Amy and Laura in Colorado
to spending her retirement years changing diapers and reading to the triplets, she was in her glory. She had her fair share of heartache as well, having a child with a disability, losing her mother and dear brothers when she was too young and burying two of her children. But that never dampened her spirit
and she always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. The team at the Heart Care Centers of Illinois kept her ticker going for more years than anyone thought possible. She squeezed every ounce of life out of it. She did not want to leave, but alas her poor body
could not go on. She passed away peacefully in her home with the love of her life by her side. She was one in a million with her down-to-earth manner, sparkling personality, quick wit and generous soul. Her memory will live on in our hearts and we would like you to always remember: WWBD? – What Would Buscia Do? Live, laugh, love and give what you can to whomever you can when they need it. Any
donation to a charity of your choice in her honor would be much appreciated. Funeral Saturday June 24, 2023 10:30 AM from the Hickey Memorial Chapel, 2429 W 127th Street, Blue Island, IL to St Donatus Church for mass at 11AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation Friday 3 - 8PM

Pamela M. Frasor - November 22, 1944 - May 08, 2023

Departed: 05/08/2023 (Blue Island)
Obituary Preview: On Monday, May 8, 2023, Pamela Mary (nee Denton) Frasor, loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother of four passed away at age 78.
Pamela was born on November 22, 1944 to John and Violet (nee Roulo) Denton. At a young age she lost her father, and was raised by her mother, along with the Roulo family, including her Uncle Norman and Aunt Dorothy, and cousins Tim, Kathy and Jan, in a two flat in Blue Island. She started working by age 18 for Commonwealth Edison and soon after married her high school sweetheart John William Frasor. She is survived by her three children, Jonna, Joel (Gina) and Johnny (Yamina), and four grandchildren, John Leo, Emma, Jack and Gabriel.
Pamela’s love of Blue Island and commitment to community service was first fostered by her Uncle Norman, a long-time Blue Island City Treasurer.  As a stay-at-home mom, Pam supported many local non-for-profit organizations, such as Blue Island Little League, St. Benedicts Athletic Club, and others. She was also deeply influenced by Ethel Jebens, the first female alderman of Blue Island and, under her guidance, became a fifth ward alderman of Blue Island. Pam later became the City Clerk of Blue Island, a position she held with distinction for years. As City Clerk, she had many accomplishments but her favorite was the transformation of the city landfill into the Blue Island Golf Course. In addition, she had many passions including painting, writing, knitting, and needlecraft. With her wide range of talents, she was able to nurture a loving family and serve to keep her community strong, safe, and vibrant.
