Ruth Lane Dawson - December 14, 1929 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Lynchburg)
Obituary Preview: On April 28, 2024, Ellen Ruth Lane Dawson left this life to join her Lord and all the saints in heaven. Born December 14, 1929, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the only child of John Wesley Lane and Lorene Davis Lane.
At an early age Ruth discovered her passion for, and talent in, all things musical. Developing that skill and love led her to focus on piano and organ as her profession. Music originated deep down in her soul and permeated her life and the lives of those around her. There was always a song in Ruth’s head; it was regularly given voice, but frequently it just had to be played and enjoyed. She shared her joy and gift through her church, her piano students, and especially through ‘the band,’ along with her dear friend Phil Johnson. She played music with these friends until they were well into their 80s, savored every moment, and brought joy to all who heard them play.
Ruth’s other joy and passion in life was family. She was a loving daughter, steadfast wife, and joy-filled mother and grandmother. In the fifth grade she met Claude Dawson, and their childhood friendship blossomed, leading to 60 years of loving, devoted marriage.
Ruth embodied unconditional love. As a parent, family member, teacher, or friend, she nurtured each relationship with her own special love, care, and encouragement. Her gentle spirit emanated from her each day of her life, despite the dementia that ultimately clouded her last years.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sweetheart, soulmate and husband, Claude J. Dawson, Jr. and their son, Ronald Lane Dawson. She is survived by their daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Dawson Tweedy and beloved son-in-law Thomas W. Tweedy of Lynchburg, VA; cherished granddaughter, Corley E. Tweedy of Astoria, NY; brother- and sister-in-law Jerry and Patsy Dawson of Manakin Sabot, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she treasured.

Glenn T. Anderson - January 24, 1970 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Lynchburg)
Obituary Preview: On Friday April 19, 2024, the cherished soul of Glenn Talmage Anderson passed peacefully with family beside him, leaving behind a legacy of love.
He started his career with the Bedford County Police Department, and for 26 years, Glenn served with the City of Lynchburg Police Department in various roles and received several honors and awards, and retired as a Sergeant. Unable to sit back and enjoy the good life of retirement when there were opportunities to still serve, he joined the Liberty University Police Department. Within each of those departments, Glenn found a family who loved and supported him through the good and the bad. When cancer came and tried its best to take Glenn, those departments gave him the support he needed to keep wearing the badge, and gave him the dignity of self-worth in his work. Glenn believed that if he was going to do it, it was going to be perfection or nothing. When he survived esophageal cancer against the odds, he knew he was given the chance to lift up those walking that dark road in a way few could. He had the heart of a country boy and loved to get his four wheels in the mud, toes in the sand, and hitch his camper up for a weekend with family, with Kenny Chesney as the soundtrack to it all.
Glenn found new adventures with love and laughter with his wife Lauren and became a step-dad to her sons, which brought him much joy and helped him make his karaoke debut with her family - finding a whole new side to himself later in life. While he mentored so many great officers in his career, he took on his first mentorship role as big brother with great pride and for 5 decades loved without fail. When he got two nieces, instead of the nephews we all planned for, he took on the challenge of being a “girl Uncle” with great pride, and loved that he got Virginia Tech to win out over UVA for his niece’s choice of college, a fact he would have made a must to be published here for all to see. As a son, he walked with his father through the last years of his life, which Glenn did with a heart full of love, pushing through the pain of that loss, and kept the promise of “taking care of mom”. He and Connie made a home for his two sons, who grew up to be great men, and were truly a “Chip” off the block of the man that was Glenn. They carried the work ethic, love and devotion that he taught them, into the world. They were and are his great treasure and best part of who he was.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Ray Anderson. He is survived by his mother, Martha Anderson, his wife Lauren Anderson, his sons, Drew and Taylor Anderson and their mother, Connie Anderson, his step-sons, Lucas and Mason Brown, his brother Jeff Anderson and his wife Rachel Anderson, his sisters-in-law, Brook Houchens and Kacy Tassone, as well as his nieces and nephews: Lauren and Emma Anderson, Nicholas Horton, Julia Houchens, and Gia Horton, his uncles: Elbert Anderson and his wife Linda, and J.W. Anderson and his cousins: Chuck Anderson and Jimmie Anderson and their families. A memorial service will be held at Thomas Road Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Glenn Anderson will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, colleagues and community. When the road got tough, he got tougher. He would tell all of you, keep going…. “Til you can’t.”

Chuck was passionate about sharing his love of Jesus with others as his life’s work was devoted to the Lord’s service. He actively led others to worship God through music. He served his Lord in this capacity for over 50 years as he traveled in gospel music groups and led congregational worship. He had many favorite songs. “I’d Rather Have Jesus” is one that he loved and paralleled his life: “I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold. I’d rather be His than have riches untold. I’d rather have Jesus than houses or land. I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand.” Chuck often sang songs about heaven and anticipated meeting his savior. Now his long journey is over, and he can really live! He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
The family would like to give their sincere heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bedford County Nursing Home and Centra Hospice Care of Bedford for their loving care and support.
