Lois Childress - May 02, 1928 - January 27, 2022

Departed: 01/27/2022 (Boise City)
Obituary Preview: Lois Childress, age 93, passed way January 27, 2022, at Coldwater Manor Nursing Home in Stratford, TX.
Lois Jean Decker was born May 2, 1928 to Dewey and Martha (Becker) Decker in Meno, OK. She joined an older brother, Dalton, and twin sisters Fay and Fern. Eventually a younger sister Marilyn would complete their family. When Lois was two years old, the family relocated to a small Texas community, known as Texline. Lois loved this tiny community and she ended up living the majority of her life there.
Lois was raised in a very devout Mennonite family. During the school term, Lois was sent to school in Meno, OK, at Oklahoma Bible Academy. During the summer months, Lois was busy helping out on the family farm. When Lois became high school age, she then attended school in Clayton, NM, graduating with the class of 1945.
When Lois was 17, she married Mr. Winifred (Tub) Childress. Five brief months later, Tub was killed in an unfortunate electrical accident. At that time Lois was already pregnant with their first child. Soon she would welcome her first daughter, Winifred Lee Childress.
Determined to succeed, Lois moved to Amarillo and attended Beauty School. This education resulted in years of owning two of her own beauty shops. Later in life she met and married Mr. Charles LaBarr, unto this union, they were blessed with her second daughter Renee LaBarr.
Lois was a spitfire. A hardworking and determined woman. She was born to be an entrepreneur. Over the years she owned numerous businesses anywhere from a Liquor Store to a Drug Store, to a Donut Shop and so on. Even though she had that red headed temper, she always had a laugh and a smile that lit up a room. She loved wearing the boldest of styles. You could find her in the church choir wearing her flashy hot pink sequent top any given Sunday. She was known for her beautiful long fingernails. No polish color was acceptable except her mixed signature mauve-pink. When she was younger, she spent many hours bowling on a league, and as she got older, she enjoyed cross stitching, puzzling and playing games with the others in the Texline community.
Lois was a long-standing member of The Texline United Methodist Church and served on many committees and positions. The Church meant so much to her.
Twelve years ago, once dementia started setting in, Lois moved back to Boise City and lived with her daughter Renee. Renee gave her the best care for 10 years until she knew it was time to move her to a nursing home. Lois had lived the last two and a half years in Stratford at the Coldwater Manor. The staff and residents became her comfort and they loved her like their own family. She was truly blessed to be taken care of by so many angels on earth. She lived there until she received her angel wings, hot pink sequent wings of course.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents Dewey & Martha Decker, Brother Dalton and his wife Lol, Sisters Fay Decker, Fern McClellan and husband Cecil, and Marilyn Finnigan, 1 daughter Winifred Rutherford, 1 son-in-law Gale Walker, and two husbands.

Mary Cutter - November 05, 1929 - January 20, 2022

Departed: 01/20/2022 (Boise City)
Obituary Preview: Mary Ione French was born on November 5, 1929, to Robert James (RJ) French and Ruby Opal Munson French on the family farm near Boise City, OK. The city limits were on the other side ofthe road, but they were allowed a lifestyle of raising animals and tending gardens, orchards, and grain crops. Mary was quickly named Cukie for her love of fresh cucumbers from the garden, a joy she shared throughout her life, and family and friends forever knew her by that name.
Cukie joined her older brother and sister, Hugh Monford and Ruby Alice, with her littlesister Barbara Laine completing the family unit. Cukie was born at the beginning of the depression and the growing drought and dust storms. She related tales of the first black storm that blew in on a Sunday while her parents were away at a funeral. There were stories of the men who would come to their home from the railroad tracks just west of their farm.
Her mother always made them a sandwich and gave them a glass of milk from the dairy cow. Although the times were hard and seemed to have no end to the deprivation, Cukie did not speak of that as a period of neglect or loss. All people in the area were in the same circumstances and the loads were shared. With the gardens and orchards to feed them, her parents shared their bounty with all. Chickens, turkeys, and pigs, fresh eggs and milk would even help bring in some money to provide for the extras. Her childhood was a happy one with a large extended family and many close friends.
Her parents made the decision to have the younger children attend the Mount Carmel Academy in Wichita, Kansas, while her brother Hugh was fighting in Europe during World War II. Ruby Alice (Boo), Cukie, and Barbara were transferred there for part of their grade school and high school education. Boo and Cukie graduated at Mount Carmel with Barbara returning to Boise City to complete her education. Cukie then attended college at Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado. Though her plans were to become a dietician, she left school after two years to accept the proposal of marriage from her long-distance sweetheart, Donald Max Fowler of Boise City. They were wed on August 21, 1949, and began growing their family. Nancy Lark was born in Guymon, OK in 1951 and the small family moved into a new home on Freeman Street in Boise City. Robbie Don, 1953, Heather Ann, 1956, and Shelley Beth, 1958, completed their seating at the dining table. Cukie was an easy mother, or at least made it seem so, and the family was built around much love for each other. Cukie and Max shared their love for God and their faith in Jesus Christ from an early age, taking them to Sunday School and church at St Paul’s Methodist Church.
Cukie was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice. She shared her talents from an early age, continuing to train through her college years. She participated in choirs and groups that would entertain in the Denver area and at the prison in Central City. After marrying, she was happy to join in the choir at church and to perform for many local weddings and funerals in duets and quartets. The Easter Pageant at Kenton, OK., was an annual event that the family enjoyed participating in with Max and the children on the hillside, and Cukie in the choir. Her church was her place of love and worship, and when the years prevented her from attending, she was heartbroken.
In 1969, Max was injured in an accident that changed his life and the life of the family forever. Cukie cared for him at home, and when he had to be admitted to the nursing home in Boise City, she began working there as an aide.
In 1978, Cukie married Dr. Paul Cutter from Goodwell, OK. As the wife of a college professor at Panhandle State University, she made many friends with other faculty wives and students. Paul had a good heart and helped many of the foreign students when they had difficulties, and Cukie was there at his side. They farmed land in Hugoton, KS in the summers, and Cukie made a home out of a small three room building. They were busy and happy years for them both.
Cukie made lasting friendships with many people from each stage of her life. She always had a smile on her face and was ready to listen to others. Life presented challenges that would have brought many to their knees, but she leaned on the love of God and her family to conquer them all. She remained thankful for her life and her many friends. She had extended friendships with the Fowler and Cutter families.
Cukie was one of fourteen first cousins in the extended French family. She was the only survivor and felt such an aching loss for her siblings and family. Her final years saw her surrender of mobility and independence, yet she still had a smile for everyone who visited her. She was able to see her first great-great grandchild and to have her children within close distance. Her son, Robbie, cared for her at her home on Freeman Street in Boise City, OK. She never missed the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for any small thing done for her, and her first question was always about how you were doing.
Our kind, loving, gracious mother took her last breath on January 20, 2022, at 8pm with her children surrounding her in her home. Her faith gave her the hope of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, and a new life in his presence following her last breath on this earth. It is a comfort that each one of us carries forward into our lives without her presence.
Mary Ione, Cukie, is survived by her four children: Robbie Fowler of Boise City, Nancy Roberts of Meeker, OK, Heather Ritchie of Vici, OK, and Shelley Fowler of Boise City. Her first grandchild, Amy Roberts Gonzalez, lives in Cimarron County with her husband Silvester and children Ariana, Emma, and Samuel. Grandson Heath Ritchie lives in Camargo, OK. Granddaughter Lori Roberts Dyer and husband Richard live in Muskogee, OK. Grandson Ryan Roberts and wife Xuan Xuan reside in Meeker, OK. Two great-granddaughters, Kaytlyn and Tambre Dyer are from Muskogee, OK. Two great-great-granddaughters: Makhia and Alorah Emberson live with their mother Kaytlyn. Paul shared his sons and their families with Cukie who loved them: Gary and wife Tina Cutter and their sons Mathew and Logan, and Alan and Ozzie Cutter and their son Richard and daughter Suzanne.
Cukie was predeceased by her husbands, Max Fowler and Paul Cutter, and all of her French family. She also had a son, Lance Munson Fowler, who was stillborn in 1965.
A memorial service will be announced at a time in the future, perhaps in springtime.

Blake Wells - July 25, 1986 - December 18, 2021

Departed: 12/18/2021 (Boise City)
Obituary Preview: Blake Wells Blake Allan Wells was born July 25, 1986 in Guymon, Oklahoma to Mary Overstreet and Clint Wells. He joined his older brother, Rodney Crane and was followed by two younger sisters, Shandi and Destiny.
He passed away on December 18, 2021 at the Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas from complications from Covid at the age of 35.
Blake was a big ole boy with an easy laugh and a drive to help people. He used his expertise in computers, the internet, and I phones to help anybody with problems and improvements. He would move heavy things for people and reach stuff on a high shelf. Those of us who depended on his help will miss him terribly. His legacy will live on in his children in whom he and Ashley instilled a work ethic and responsibility beyond their years.
Blake dearly loved his family. He met Ashley Gardner on December 16, 2006, and they were married on August 9, 2008. The union was blessed by five children, Abigail-13, Trenton-12, twins, Reaha and Rebeka-10, and Amanda-8. When he was asked why they had so many children, he would say “We didn't have HBO". Blake loved adventures, camping, working, scouting, and Rotary.
He was an unlikely computer nerd that taught his teachers the technology when he was a freshman in high school. He worked a job, went to school, and did side jobs, all at the same time. He enjoyed music, memes, and Tik Tok. He even got Mike Barnes, unfortunately addicted to Tik Tok. He would often be seen sitting in a vehicle at the news office, body shop, or Toot N Totem, looking at his phone. He was suppose to be doing research and putting the newspaper together, but often times he was sending inappropriate memes and videos he found on Tik Tok to his wife and friends with hearty chuckle. He claimed that being a trophy husband was exhausting. He was sarcastic and stubborn and loved picking on his “short' cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Roy Overstreet, Art Harryman, and Josie and Bill Wells, step brother Tyler West, cousins Terry Rice, Jayde Rodriquez, Michael Overstreet, Bradley Begley and Jeffrey Rice and Uncles Robert Rodriquez and Pat Timberlake and Aunt Amanda Wells.
He is survived by his wife Ashley and their five children of the home, his mother Mary Overstreet of Stratford,Texas, brother Rodney of Ulysses, KS, and sisters Shandi of Stratford, TX, and Destiny of Oklahoma City, Grandmother June Harryman of Stratford, TX, many aunts and cousins, nieces, and nephews, and host of friends.
It has been reported, yet not confirmed that his last words were "Let's Go Brandon".
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday morning, December 23 at the First Baptist Church of Boise City, Oklahoma under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral home.
Donations may be sent to the fund for the family established by the First Baptist Church of Boise City. Friends and family may sign the online guest book or leave a condolence

Obituary Preview: Marcia Marie Foreman Rice was born May 6, 1917, in a sheep camp 2 miles south of Wheeless, OK, because they were having a blizzard, and the camp was next to where the midwife lived. Her parents were Arthur Cam Foreman and Josie Belle Mabry Foreman. Her father had worked in a cement plant in the Dallas area and moved to Wheeless to be a farmer in 1915 and her mother was a homemaker and a seamstress. She had 3 brothers, A.C. older than her and Mabry and Aubrey younger. Mabry is still alive. She attended elementary school at Wheeless thru the 5th grade, attended one year at Boise City, then attended and graduated from Felt High School. She got her teaching certificate after 2 years at Panhandle A & M in Goodwell, OK and then continued her education by getting a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She sewed a dress that took 2nd in the state at the Oklahoma State Fair. She was hired to teach at Hurley, a small one room school northeast of Boise City after getting the certificate. She began teaching there in September of 1937. She taught 2 years at Hurley. Then she taught school 2 years at the Skelley Ranch. From there she taught 2 years at the Felt Public school.
She met Lee D. Rice at community and school events. They were married in Boise City on November 26, 1937. They were together 77 years before his death at age of 104 in 2015. She was a true partner with Lee being very active in the farming and ranching endeavors. They had two boys: Jerry Lee, of Boise City, and George Franklin, who is deceased. She had 2 grandchildren, Amy and Aaron (deceased) and 3 great-granddaughters, Emily, Aubrey, and Katy.
Marcia was a lifelong Oklahoman until moving to Elkhart,KS, to the Morton County facility. She lived at Kenton, Wheeless, Felt, and spent the last 10 1/2 years of her life in the assisted living and then the Morton County Senior Care Center in Elkhart, KS.
She had many childhood memories from the Dust Bowldays: dust storms, being over-run with rabbits, and living in a dugout/basement house. She was a member of the Felt Baptist Church, where she taught classes for children and adults. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior around the age of 12-13. She played the piano. She was active in the Cimarron County Music Club for many years and Felt home demonstration club. She spent many years sewing for herself and her family. She enjoyed crocheting and painting also. Several in the Felt community have one of her paintings. She spent time teaching her 2 grandchildren how to paint. Her summers were full of gardening and canning. She taught her daughter-in-law (Debbie) how to can and freeze garden produce.
She was involved in Jerry’s school activities. She helped and encouraged his participation in 4-H and music. He still plays the piano today due to his mother’s influence.
She was a caregiver. She cared for her mother through the last years of her life when she had cancer. She cared for her older brother, A.C. who had cerebral palsy, and especially after their mother died, making sure he was taken care of and looking after his needs. Then the biggest one was her son George who was downs and mentally handicapped and required total care all of his life. For 59 years she took care of him in all ways. In their last years in the nursing home in Elkhart she saw him nearly every day and spent time with him. When he passed away it was like her real reason for living was gone.
She made scrapbooks with memories and cards for any birthday or anniversary event. She even made a scrapbook for her granddaughter’s high school activities and gave it to her for graduation.
In her time at Elkhart you would find her reading her Bible in her room (she read completely through the Bible probably 6 or 7 times in the last few years), participating in care center activities, or playing cards with her lady friends from Felt. Many of the aides and nurses there in the care center considered her like their grandmother. Michael Overstreet - September 25, 1984 - July 17, 2021

Departed: 07/17/2021 (Boise City)
Obituary Preview: Michael James Overstreet, dedicated husband, loving father and step-father, doting uncle, loving brother and son &; life long farmer, was born September 25, 1984 in Boise City, Ok to Ron and Peggy Overstreet. Michael was the third child to Ron and Peggy joining his sisters Michelle and Kimberly. With Michael’s birth, his parents were finally able to use the name they’d had picked out since starting their family.
As soon as he learned to walk, Michael was around town in his cowboy boots and shorts. The shorts became jeans when he figured out he’d need those to work at the feed yard, dairy or farm. He quickly acquired his first dog, Flintstone, and Michael was never without a dog after that, favoring the big breeds like his two Great Danes. From a very young age, Michael loved farming. Anything resembling a tractor, combine or truck was quickly acquired and added to his fleet of farm toys (many of which were red). He would spend hours “farming” the carpet in the living room, scolding anyone who dared walk through his “fields.” Michael had an incredible sense of humor, and a signature chuckle that easily identified him. Work came before fun for Michael, even skipping junior prom to finish a welding project (or maybe avoid the dancing!). As he grew up, he could always be found farming, working at the dairy or feed yard, or tinkering with most anything mechanical. His passion for things with wheels was reflected in a 5th grade paper where he wrote, “Loaders, trucks and tractors fill the air with the smell of diesel and beautiful noise.”
It wasn’t uncommon to find things around the Overstreet household in pieces as Michael learned how things worked.
Throughout school, Michael was a good student, played several sports and was actively involved in the Boise City FFA Chapter, receiving the FFA State Proficiency award in 2002. He thoroughly enjoyed throwing the shot put and discus in high school qualifying for state in the discus, both his junior and senior years. He regularly practiced in the backyard of the family home with help from his dog Magnum, who he taught to retrieve the discus.
After graduating from Boise City High School in 2003, Michael attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University, majoring in Agribusiness. While at OPSU, Michael worked on the College Farm, meeting friends from all over while doing and studying what he loved.
Michael began farming the Overstreet family land in 2011, becoming the 4th generation to farm that ground. He took tremendous pride in the land and worked diligently to take great care of it and his equipment. His mechanical ability benefitted him as he acquired equipment and began custom farming for several families in the area.
In 2011, Michael met the love of his life, Halley. They were married in Estes Park, CO on September 8th , 2015 at a beautiful ceremony. Emberlynn and Korbin were an important part of this new family. Michael adored the opportunity to be a stepdad to these amazing kids. As much as he liked buying Halley fresh flowers, he liked helping Emberlynn and Korbin pick out cowboy boots to wear farming, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting. The family of four became a family of six with the addition of Carson Auden James on July 20, 2016 and Lukas Michael Graham on December 22, 2017. Always a kid at heart, Michael loved Christmas. He would buy loads of fun and exciting gifts for the kids, many of which he’d enjoy playing with himself. However, he’d get so excited about that gifts and the kids’ reactions, that he’d give them the gifts early, and then have to go shopping again before Christmas.
Michael left this earth the afternoon of July 17, 2021 at BSA in Amarillo, TX. This tremendous man – husband, father, son, brother, farmer, and community member - will be missed so much by those still here on this earth. Michael is survived of the home by his wife Halley; children Emberlynn, Korbin, Carson & Lukas; parents Ron & Peggy Overstreet of Dodge City, KS; sisters Michelle Overstreet (children Anna & Andrew) of Saint George, KS; Kimberly Nichols and husband Eddie (children Mason & Ryan) of Dodge City, KS; in-laws Theresa and Eddie Stafford and Micky and Deb Cobb, both of Keyes; and sister-in-
