Obituary Preview: Mr. Richard Valentine Fuino, 82, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Abraham House in Utica.
Richard was born in Herkimer, on March 31, 1937, the son of Anthony and Rose (Falvo) Fuino. He was raised locally, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and Utica School of Commerce. Richard proudly served in the US Army until his honorable discharge in 1963. Richard was a professional opera singer, having studied six months in NY City. He was a music enthusiast and was proud to have professionally sung a song written by his niece, Laura. Richard was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Fuino is survived by seven nieces and one nephew, Pam, Dawn, Roseann, Laura, Bridget, Grace, Aaron and Marsha, as well as several great nieces and nephews, especially, Allison. He was predeceased by five sisters, Gloria, Grace, Joyce, Mary and Rosemary and four brothers, Benito, Tony, Peter and Joe.
Mr. Fuino’s funeral will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 8:45 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 9:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica, where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Obituary Preview: Linda G. Battaglia, 76, of Utica passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Faxton – St. Luke’s Health Care surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born in Utica on January 3, 1943, a daughter of the late Stewart and Agnes (Johnson) Durr. On August 10, 1963 she was united in marriage to Stephen Battaglia, a blessed union of 35 years until his death on February 28, 1998. For 32 years until her retirement in 2006, Linda was employed at Mohawk Valley Community College and for 20 years she worked part time at Macy’s. She was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church.
Linda was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend, always thinking of others first. “To know her was to love her”. She especially loved her role as Nana. In her spare time Linda enjoyed shopping excursions with her grandchildren, her joy of reading and trips to the casino, along with holiday and birthday celebrations. Her time was filled with special activities, Tuesday night dinners and Wednesday luncheons, Thursday pamper day with Tricia Caruso and yearly trips to Maine with family and traveling with her friend Gail.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory her children, Renee Mineo and husband, Paul, of New Hartford, Tricia Kocyba and husband, Stan, of Trenton Falls and Stephen Battaglia and wife, Kimberly, of New Hartford; five grandchildren, Nicole Lilli, Emilee Kocyba, Stanley Kocyba, Julia Battaglia and Jenna Lamantia; nieces and nephews, Kimberly and Jeffrey Sears, of Sauquoit, and their children, Savanna, Forrest and Tucker Sears and Peter and Lynn Afinowich, of Sauquoit; two brothers-in law, Anthony and wife Mary Lou Battaglia and their children, Anthony and Christopher (Jennifer) Battaglia, of Utica and Joseph Battaglia, of New Hartford; best friends, Gail Bartnick, Joyce Shannon and Carol Finnefrock, and her canine companion, Cocoa. Linda was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Peter Afinowich and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anthony and Ella (Rainone) Battaglia and Misha, her canine companion.
Mrs. Battaglia’s funeral service will be held on Saturday October 5, 2019 at 9:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.

Charles “Chuck” McRorie, 78, of North Utica passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.
Chuck was born in Albany, NY on July 17, 1941, a son of the late Milton and Evelyn (Harter) McRorie. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On January 18, 1969 Chuck was united in marriage to Jacqueline Williams, a blessed union of 50 years until her death in 2018. For many years he was employed with Bendix Corp. later Lucas Aerospace until his retirement. After his retirement he was employed with Independent Courier.
Chuck always enjoyed fishing and camping and was a NASCAR fan, but what he enjoyed most was just visiting with people. Chuck missed traveling with his wife and spending winters in Florida.
Chuck is survived by his two children, Vanessa Houck and Kevin McRorie, both of Utica, his three grandchildren who lovingly called him “Happy”, Jillian Houck, Rowan Houck and Wesley Houck, a son-in-law, Joel Houck, Newport, NY, two sisters-in-law, Carol Williams and Nancy Kistner, both of Utica, a niece and nephews, Tracy Williams, Michael Williams, Timothy Welch and David Williams and his canine companion, Finn.

Obituary Preview: Lynda M. Greenleaf, 48, of Marcy, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2019 at the Siegenthaler Center following a long illness.
Lynda was born January 3, 1971 in New Hartford. Attended Whitesboro High School and became a certified nurse assistant. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital and Masonic Home. She also worked at Turning Stone Casino for years as a beverage server, but her favorite job was working as a companion to the elderly. She had many “clients” over the years. Lynda had a deep respect and admiration for them and cared for them with dignity and humility.
Lynda struggled with illness since the age of 10. However, she always managed to have a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She had a sense of humor that carried her through many rough times.
Lynda is survived by her children, Robert Greenleaf (Alexis), of Los Angeles, and Alexandria Greenleaf (Daryl), of Utica. Her beloved grandchildren, Greyson and Josiah. Sister, Kimberly Hanna (Richard) of Barneveld and brother, Jeffery Greenleaf (Vivian) of Los Angeles. Her cherished Nephew and Niece, Emerson and Grace Hanna, of Barneveld. Her special cousins, Lisa Pfluke and Lori Blasé. Her dear friend, Kara Lupino. She is predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Lynda A. Greenleaf.
Lynda was showered with love and support throughout her life by many good friends and family. She was grateful for the love and care she received during this most recent decline, including Hospice and the Siegenthaler Center.

Patricia was born in Utica on June 2, 1933, a daughter of Leo A. and Josephine (O’Connor) Bevins. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Grammar School and Utica Catholic Academy. At Our Lady of Lourdes Church on May 21, 1955, Patricia was united in marriage to James R. Neary, a blessed union of 64 years. For a time she was employed with the New York Telephone Co. Patricia was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and a former member of St. Mark’s Church. Throughout her life she was also a member of St. Elizabeth’s Guild, Catholic Women’s Club and Notre Dame Council and in her spare time volunteered at Hope House.
Patty is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, her six children, Sheila Day and husband, Steve, of Deerfield, Cathy Barr and husband, Mike, of Deerfield, Maureen Stearns and husband, Warren, of Ripley, W.VA, Gretchen Neary and Tracey Hemming, of Deerfield, James Neary and wife, Kathy, of Rochester, and David Neary and fiancee’ Kimberley Kratzenberg, of Forestport; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Neary, Kimberly Lemieux and husband, Mark, Dr. David Neary, Michael Day, Katie Sylvester and husband, Matt, Michael Barr, BryAnna Stearns, Alyssa LaManque, Shea LaManque and Delia LaManque; a sister, Joan Warren; a niece, Teneke Warren and a nephew, Thomas Warren, all of Aurora, CO, and a very special friend, Dr. Joseph Booth. She is also survived by six great grandchildren and many special friends.

Gifford was born in Little Falls on Novemeber 1, 1937 a son of Gifford W. and Mary (Spacapan) Loomis, Sr. He served his country proudly in the Navy from 1955 -1957. At St. Agnes Church, Utica on June 6, 1959 Gifford was united in marriage to Margaret Barcomb. For many years he was employed with Chicago Markets in Utica and then with Disney World in Florida. He was a member of the American Legion, New Hartford.
Gifford is survived by his wife, Margaret, two daughters, Christine Downs and husband, Steven of Clark Mills, and Kathleen Gotte of Utica, a grandson, Justin Loomis of Utica, and a sister, Sharon Delduca of Utica.
Gifford was predeceased by 3 grandsons, Gregory Loomis, Daniel Gotte and John Gotte, a sister, Jean Darvoe, and in-laws, Ronald and Barbara Barcomb and Jeffrey Barcomb.

Leo was born in Utica on November 7, 1969, a son of the late George and Evelyn (Dewhurst) Federow. He was employed with Marcy Excavating Service. Leo was a member of the East Herkimer Sno-Riders and was always competing. When he wasn’t racing snowmobiles, he could always be found at the truck and tractor pulls, along with demolition derbys, either competing or helping out.
Leo is survived by his brother, James Federow and wife, Vanessa, of Schuyler Lake, NY, two nieces, Kayla Federow and Heather Federow, both of Schuyler Lake and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Richard was born in Utica on August 7, 1950, a son of Emmit and Mary Rose (Glover) Phillips. He was a 1968 graduate of Utica Free Academy and pursued psychology and film studies at Mohawk Valley Community College. Richard served in the Army from 1972 – 1974. For many years until his retirement he was employed with the US Postal Service. He was of the Catholic faith. Richard was an art house film and music enthusiast. Within the past month he had been to a Rolling Stones concert in Maryland and this year alone had traveled to see Bruce Springsteen in New York City, the Eagles, and Elton John. He adored the Beatles, Elvis Costello, and rock music from many generations but particularly the 60’s.
Richard is survived by nieces and nephew, Nina Gallauresi, Elizabeth Gallauresi, and Alan Gallauresi, whom he resided with in their youth and helped to raise, two great nieces, Vivien, age 8 and Elise Gallauresi, age 4, whom he visited every birthday and holiday. He remained very close with his best friend from high school, Andi Caldwell. Richard was also very close to his “adopted family” Jed, Tess, Leslie and Brian Silverman.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved sister, Ann Gallauresi, his mother, Mary Rose Phillips and his brother, Robert Phillips.

On May 16, 2016, Jim was united in marriage with Jacqueline “Jackie” Wilcox. Jim was a roofer by trade for 27 years, retiring from the Roofers Union #195. He was a member of VFW Auxiliary post 6001 in Yorkville. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and his greatest joy was his grandbabies.
Mr. Tarkowski is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Jenna Tarkowski and Mathew “Chewy” and Tecia Tarkowski; three step-children, Candace, Christopher and his wife Helena and James; nine cherished grandchildren, Addison, Suttyn, Aryana, Nolyn, Holly, Tara, Zachary, Aaron and Nathan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Liz Rosato and her companion, Tom and Karen and Bob Thierry; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Patrick and Cathy Tarkowski, John Tarkowski, Stanley Tarkowski and his companion Rosie and Vickie Tarkowski; In-Laws, Marlene and Edmond Kolis, Thomas Hart and Shirley Hart as well as many nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Vreeland. Obituary Preview: Ms. Josephine (Commisso) Suppa Hance, 79, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully at her home, on Sunday, May 12, 2019, with her loving family by her side.
Josephine was born in Utica on February 15, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph and Congetta (Schilingo) Commisso. Josephine was raised and educated in Utica. On May 17, 1958, in St. Anthony’s Church in Utica, Josephine joined Frank Suppa IV in marriage. A marriage that blessed Josephine and Frank with four beautiful children, a son and three daughters. Frank passed away in 1992. Later in life Josephine found happiness in marriage to Paul Hance. She embraced her Catholic faith and was a parishioner of St Mark’s Church in North Utica. For many years until her retirement, Josephine was employed as a successful sales representative with Prudential Insurance Company in Utica, winning may prestigious awards. Josephine was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was happiest spending time with her beloved family. Josephine shared a very special bond with all of her children, never faltering to show her love. She was their confidant and best friend. Known to her grandchildren as “Grandma Jo,” she blessed them with many wonderful holiday traditions. Many Christmas Eve’s were spent at Grandma Jo’s house, singing Happy Birthday to the baby Jesus, watching the dancing Santa, trying to figure out which pizza frit had sardines in it and which didn’t, and sharing in the wonderful company of family. Her grandchildren will remember her for the many summer sleepovers, which consisted of Nutty Buddies and late-night swimming with flashlights. Grandma Jo will also be remembered for her wonderful singing “We’re Here Because We’re Here” on many car rides with her grandchildren.
Josephine is survived by four adoring children, Frank Suppa V and Lisa Zaniewski, Nadine and James Thomas, Michelle Suppa and Gene Tobin, and Rene Zaniewski and fiancé Don DeCarr. Josephine was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nicole and Anthony Gerardo, Maria Suppa, Francine and Ryan Phelan, Angela and Brendan Lennon, Dr. Daniele Casper and Patrick McHarris, Frank and Erin Facciolo, Joseph Facciolo and Elizabeth and Ray Doolen, 11 adored great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Josephine also leaves behind two sisters with whom she shared a wonderful relationship, Dolores Bremer and Jeanette Commisso. Josephine spent many afternoons lunching, shopping, and just spending time with her best friend Dolores. Their amazing comradery started as youngsters and remained until the very end. Josephine was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary Commisso, a brother, Dominick Commisso, and a great grandchild, Timothy Doolen. Josephine will be missed by all whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, caring personality, her amazing ability to cook and feed people and animals in excess, even if they weren’t hungry. Most of all, Josephine will be remembered as the center of the family who provided everyone with beautiful memories and traditions.
A Christian celebration of Josephine’s life will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 440 Keyes Rd. in North Utica. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. There will be no public calling hours.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful nurses of Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as a wonderful friend and caregiver to Josephine, Karen Hodges.

Obituary Preview: Devin Blake, age 35, passed away May 8, 2019 at the home of his parents after a valiant battle with cancer.
Devin was born in Utica, on April 2, 1984, the son of Edward and Kathleen (Leonard) Blake. He was a graduate of Utica College with a degree in communications and was employed with Verizon in Syracuse. At one time, Devin played locally in the band, Blackfoot Jack. He also enjoyed music, golf, the Buffalo Bills, North Carolina basketball and the Chicago White Sox.
Devin is survived by his parents, Edward and Kathleen; his sister, Cara and her husband Mike Young of Syracuse and his maternal grandfather, Robert Leonard of Deerfield. He was one of seventeen grandchildren of the late Stan and Betty Blake and was very close to his cousins and aunts and uncles whom he thanks for their endless kindness. Devin was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Barbara Leonard.
Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00 am-12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon at the conclusion of the calling hours. His burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Annsville, NY.

She was born on March 9, 1935 in Lake Placid, daughter of the late Lawrence and Kathryn (Baker) Cassidy. She graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1953 and from Plattsburg State College in 1957 with a degree in education. She was united in marriage with Thomas A. Sullivan in 1957. The couple moved to Ticonderoga in 1961, to Poland, NY in 1971 and to Hudson, NY in 1984. Mary taught elementary school after graduating from college, and later was a substitute teacher in the Ticonderoga, Poland and Taconic Hills school districts. Mary and Tom were long time congregants at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hudson. After 48 years of marriage, Tom preceded her in death on April 14, 2006. Mary was an active volunteer for many years at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. In her retirement Mary enjoyed knitting, sewing and bingo, and enjoyed winters in Florida for many years with Tom.
Survivors include children, Michael Sullivan (Paul Loeffler) of San Francisco, Thomas Sullivan of Aurora, CO, Mark (MJ) Sullivan of Schenectady, and Patricia (Bryan) Ehlinger of Barneveld; four grandchildren, Ryan Ehlinger, Christopher and Rachel Sullivan, and Joseph Sullivan Loeffler; a sister Julia LaSalle; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Gerald, Leonard and Daniel Cassidy, and by her sisters Rita Cassidy and Eileen Efner. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday, May 3rd from 5:00-7:00 PM and Saturday May 4th from 9:00-10:00 AM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica.
A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 4th at 10:30 AM at St. Peter’s Church, Utica, New York. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rome, NY.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Barbara P. Barcomb, 79, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 15, 2019 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford, with her loving family by her side.
Barbara was born in Utica on June 24, 1939, the daughter of Stanley and Gladys (Gokey) Penc. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On August 16, 1958, Barbara was united in marriage with Ronald J. Barcomb, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 60 years, until Ronald death in 2018. At one time, Barbara was employed with Oneida National Bank, H&R Block as a tax preparer, later with Automobile Damage Appraisers and most recently with Hapanowicz catering service. Barbara enjoyed cooking, baking, swimming and exercising at Curves She was also very proud of being a published poet and her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family and especially her cherished grandchildren.
Barbara was a member of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church in Utica. Mrs. Barcomb is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Frank Carzo of Whitesboro; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Lyle J. Barcomb of Whitesboro, Kyle J. and Cheryl Barcomb of MI, Timothy J. and Kathy Barcomb of Utica and Eric J. and Jennifer Barcomb of New Hartford; 12 cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth and Josh Brown, Jim Major, Tricia Major, Marianne and Paul Posont, Jamie and Dani Barcomb-Busansky, Jennifer Barcomb, Erika Barcomb, Frank Carzo, IV and his fiance’ Amanda Benton, Nicholas Carzo, Julia Carzo, Brittany Reynolds and her fiancée Jim Gaffney and Timothy Barcomb; three sisters, Patricia White of Malone, Linda Fish of Sauquoit, Debbie Penc of NY Mills; four sisters-in-law, Adeline Penc of Utica, Barbara Alsheimer of Clinton, Peggy Loomis of New Hartford and Deanna Ventura of New Hartford; one brother-in-law, Gifford Loomis of New Hartford as well as four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley (Bud) Penc, Jr. and five brother-in-law, Garnet White, Jerry Fish, Andrew Alsheimer, Jeffery Barcomb and Lyle Barcomb.
Mrs. Barcomb’s funeral will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, 422 Tilden Ave., Utica, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the funeral Mass. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville.

He enjoyed playing pool, going to agricultural shows, visiting his many friends and was an avid pitch player, but his true passion was farming.
Mr. Symonds is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia; two daughters, Velvet Barnard and George of Frankfort and Darlene Hartman and Bob Alfred of Rome; two sons and one daughter-in-law, C. Todd and Michelle Symonds of Marcy and Clinton T. Symonds and Danielle of Trenton; nine cherished grandchildren, Melissa (Larre), Jackie (Aaron), Michael, Brandon (Samantha), Daniel, Nicole (Matt), Brittany (Tom), Savanah and Ashleigh; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sharon Sawyer of Albany and Gail and Larry Hutcheons of SC; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Lorraine Symonds of VA; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Linda and Carl Schrader of Marcy and Liz Thomas of Marcy, as well as 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and his best friend and canine companion, Ally. She enjoyed aquatic pool activities and was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Utica.
Cynthia is survived by her beloved husband, Dominick; her children and step-children, Linda and John Cruikshank, Thomas Vroman, Julie and Marty Jellerson, Kevin Talarico, Tony Talarico, Douglas Talarico, Tina and Tim Bouyea and Marchelle Porter; her siblings, Bernard and Donette Von Dauber and Jack Von Dauber; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Toby. Cynthia was predeceased by a son, Mark Vroman; one great granddaughter; her parents Bernard and Gertrude Von Dauber; and her sister, Deborah Steinmann.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 422 Coventry Ave. in N. Utica. Her burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Oriskany Falls, NY.
