Obituary Preview: Michelena Rose (Bianco) Clark, 92, of Peekskill, New York and formerly of White Plains, New York, passed away March 17, 2023 after a four year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Michelena (often called by her nickname, “Mickey,”) was born on July 22nd, 1930 to Mary and August Bianco in Pittston, Pennsylvania. She married Bobby Gordon Clark (deceased) on January 21st,1951 in a church ceremony at Mount Carmel Church in White Plains, New York. The newlyweds honeymooned in Niagara Falls. Michelena and Bobby were married for 66 years. The couple shared a passion for tennis and skiing and often enjoyed doing these activities together. Michelena also cherished the road trips she was able to take with Bobby to places such as Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Upstate New York. Mickey and Bobby loved to admire the foliage of these places during the fall and ski the various mountains in the wintertime. Michelena’s three favorite hobbies were dancing, bingo and playing the slot machines. When the band or DJ would play fast music at any special occasion, Mickey was notorious for grabbing her sister Mary (often called by her nickname Mema), or any other family member to dance the night away on the dance floor! The pair of sisters were often known as, “Salt and Pepper,” which referred to Michelena’s white hair and Mema’s black hair. Mickey also loved a good game of bingo and would often recruit any willing party to accompany her on the 3 hour bus ride to Atlantic City! There were even a few rare occasions where Michelena was able to convince her husband Bobby to go to Atlantic City for the weekend!
Michelena had an unshakeable devotion to her relationship with God. In fact, she often attended church multiple times during the week as well as on Sundays. Church was the place she felt most connected to God. Additionally, Michelena also had an admirable dedication to helping others achieve sobriety in the Alcoholics Anonymous Program.
Michelena was the daughter of Mary and August Bianco. She was one of 9 and is survived by her sister Mary (Mema) and brothers Joe, Ernie, and Tony, and pre-deceased by her sister Margaret and brothers Nicky, Johnny, and August. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who knew them. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a sense of closure for those grieving.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer will gather information from the family and create a concise yet meaningful tribute to the person who has passed away.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary should include the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, city of residence, and details about their surviving family members. It may also include information about their occupation, hobbies, achievements, and any notable accomplishments.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or personal websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or multiple photos with the obituary. This can help to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides additional information about the person's life and legacy.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can typically submit an obituary to a newspaper by contacting their obituary department directly. They will provide guidance on their submission process, word count limits, and any specific requirements they may have.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows you to reflect on your life and legacy. However, it's essential to keep in mind that your loved ones may still want to add or modify certain details after your passing.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Some newspapers charge by the word or line, while others offer package deals that include additional services like online memorials or guest books.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. However, online obituaries can often be edited or updated with corrections or additional information.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the passing of your loved one, you can opt for a private obituary or only share it with close friends and family through personal communication or social media.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers in the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The time it takes for an obituary to be published varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online obituaries are usually published immediately upon submission, while print newspapers may take several days or even weeks.

Can I republish an obituary at a later date?

In some cases, you may want to republish an obituary on significant dates such as birthdays or anniversaries. Check with the original publication or platform to see if they offer this service or if there are any associated fees.

What is an online memorial?

An online memorial is a virtual space where friends and family can share memories, condolences, and photos of the deceased. Many online obituary platforms offer this feature as part of their services.

If you have multiple family members who have passed away, you can often link their individual obituaries together on online platforms. This creates a virtual family tree that allows visitors to navigate between related tributes.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites that specialize in historical records. Local libraries or genealogical societies may also have access to archived newspapers or other resources that can help you find an old obituary.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

What if I'm not satisfied with the final product?

If you're unhappy with how the obituary turned out, speak with the publication or platform directly. They may be willing to make revisions or offer refunds in certain circumstances.
