Obituary Preview: Edna Kleingartner 97, Jamestown, ND died Sunday October 3, 2021 at Ave Maria
in Jamestown, ND.
Edna Nitschke was born December 23, 1923 on a farm one mile southwest of Jud, ND, the daughter of Christian and Victoria (Stehr) Nitschke.  She received her elementary education in the local school and graduated from the Jud High School in 1942.  She then attended Valley City College for two years and taught rural schools in the community for six years.
She and Irvin Kleingartner were married June 30, 1950 at Jud, ND.  They made their home his grandparents, David and Barbara Schlenker’s homestead, 5 miles west of Jud, ND.  Edna continued to teach for 2 years before working with Irvin on the farm, where they grain farmed and raised cattle.  They retired in 2002 and moved into Jamestown where they have enjoyed city life.  Following the death of Irvin in 2018 she continued to reside in Jamestown.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Jamestown. She also was a member the Jud Congregational Church where she was a pianist.  Edna also taught Sunday School Class for 18 years, and is also an active member of the Jud Ladies Circle, serving in every office.   She was a member for 50 years and has never missed a meeting.
Surviving are many Nitschke & Kleingartner nieces and nephews.  She is also surviving by brothers and Sisters-in -law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, Rudy, Ted, Richard, 5 sisters, Hulda, Bertha, Otellia, Emma and Lorretta.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 11, 2021 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Tammy Toepke-Floyd, officiating.
Visitation 1-6 Sunday at the Funeral home. Interment will be made in the Jud Cemetery, Jud, North Dakota
Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Jamestown, ND.

Alvina Beck - September 05, 1932 - October 03, 2021

Obituary Preview: Alvina Nevada Beck passed away on Sunday morning October 3, 2021 in the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND.
She was born September 5, 1932 to Benjamin and Emma (Morlock) Gunst in Medina, ND, the oldest of 8 children. She attended school in Medina, and prior to her marriage, worked at the Medina Post Office.
On July 2, 1952 she married Lawrence Beck in Jamestown, ND, and made their home on Lawrence’s family farm near Woodworth. In 1960 they moved to Jamestown, where Lawrence worked at various places before beginning his own business, Beck’s Tool Rental in 1968. During that time, Alvina worked at the A&W Drive-In, and then began her long career at The Fair Store in downtown Jamestown.
Lawrence and Alvina had family in several states, so over the years they took trips to Alaska, Washington, California and Michigan. In the early 1980s they began to spend the winters in Arizona, and purchased a home at the Roadrunner Lake Resort in Scottsdale. When there, they would go on rock-hounding trips and participate in various events at the park.
After Lawrence passed away in 1992, Alvina continued to go to Arizona in the winter and participate in the many activities.
When she returned in the spring, she would go with friends on “mystery trips”. She took a trip to Hawaii with her sisters, and a road trip with her sisters to South Dakota to visit relatives and to see Mount Rushmore.
Alvina is survived by her sons Rodney (Bobbi) Beck of Bismarck, Randy (Cathy) Beck of Bismarck, and daughter Damaris (Dennis) Qual of Jamestown. In addition to her 3 children, she has 4 granddaughters, Patricia Howe, Ginger (Justin) Thomas, Michelle (Darron) Carr, and Nicole (Dustin) Bruggeman, great-grandchildren Precious (Brandon) Snider, Payne Howe, Braydin Howe, Calhum Thomas, Nevada Thomas, Trevyn Carr, Lauryn Carr, Austin Bruggeman and Olivia Bruggeman, and 2 great-great grandchildren Barrett Snider and Kolsen Snider. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Donna Musselman, Larry Gunst, Viona Troseth, Laverne (Merle) Zahler, Darrel (Dianne) Gunst and Twyla Nore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, one brother, three brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM Friday October 15, 2021 in the Haut Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Jamestown, ND.
Burial will take place in the Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.

Allen Martell - March 26, 1942 - September 29, 2021

Obituary Preview: Allen V. Martell, 79, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Eventide Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Allen was born March 26, 1942 at Wishek, ND, the son of August and Katherina (Reich) Martell.  He grew up in the area and graduated from Lehr High School in 1961.
He and Betty Buchholz were married February 5, 1963.  They made their home at Kulm and Jamestown.  Over the years he had many places of employment including Kevin Carlson and Glinz Farms, Vining Oil, Border States, Stoudt’s, Cenex in Kulm and Standard Stations in Jamestown and Kulm.
Allen was involved with the Individual’s Motorcycle Club, serving as Secretary and playing Santa for the Christmas in July Run for the Anne Carlson School.  He was also a part of many bike runs, hill climbs, an ABATE District #8 Representative and playing “Trip around the World”, which he made the board and boards for his kids.  He was also a Boy Scout Leader, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with countless friends.
Allen is survived by his 5 children; Tina Martell, Minot, ND; Melissa (Joe) Glass, Detroit Lakes, MN; Heather Martell (Darrin Forderer), Jamestown, ND; Miranda Martell (Joe Malmstead), Jamestown, ND; and Mike Martell (Angie Allmer), Jamestown, ND, including Angie’s children, Alison (Matt) Kopp, Adam, Jennifer and Thomas Allmer ; 6 Grandchildren, Brittney (Doug) Thompson, Nicholas (Karly) Starkey, Aaron Greenstein (Alyssa Behnke), Katie Glass, Grace Glass and Kaden Malmstead; and 6 great grandchildren, Sophie, Milo, Maddie, Lydia, Destery, and Payton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dean.
Memorial Service- 1:00 PM Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND.

Obituary Preview: Joseph Gordon Gause, 73, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday September 29, 2021 at his home in Jamestown, ND. Joe was born March 20, 1948 at McColl, SC, the son of Daniel and Mary Helen (Conyers) Gause. He attended school and graduated from McColl High School in 1966.
Joe entered the US Army January 4, 1967 at Fort Gordon, GA. He served in Vietnam and was discharged December 18, 1969 at Fort Bragg, NC with the rank of SP4. He also received National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantrymans Badge, and the Purple Heart.
He and Belinda were married December 1970 at McColl, SC where he worked at REA Magnet Wire in Laurinburg, NC. They divorced in 1974. He then moved to ND. Joe and Pamela Kronberg were married February 8, 1975 at Jamestown where he worked at Western Gear and was President of Western Gear Employee’s Assn. Following the death of his wife in 1988, he continued to live in Jamestown. He and Connie Jean Meyer were married April 18, 2009 at Jamestown where he drove cement truck for Aggregated Concrete until retiring. The last 5 years Connie was his caregiver.
Joe like to coach softball and boys soccer, hunting upland game, dogs and restoring antique vehicles.
He is survived by his wife Connie, Jamestown, ND; 1 son, Matthew; 2 step daughters, Kayla Klosterman, and Mariah Meyer; 1 grandson, Able; 1 sister, Sheila Rabe, SC and 1 half-brother, George, NC.
Joe was preceded death by his parents, 1 half-sister, 2 half-brothers, and 4 dogs, Bogi, Brandy, Jessi and Chip.

Obituary Preview: Edwin D. Jacobson, 84, Jamestown, ND died Sunday September 26, 2021 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Edwin was born April 10, 1937 at Crystal Springs, ND, the son of Joseph and Gunhild (Rosell) Jacobson. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew up in the area.
Edwin did various jobs but mostly helped area farmers. He later moved to Jamestown and retired.
Edwin enjoyed listening to old time Country music, watching western movies and going to rummage sales. He loved family reunions where all the stories were told. He is survived by his son Rickey Lee Jacobson, Fargo, ND; 1 granddaughter, Jeana, 3 grandsons, Forrest, Carlton and Levi, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 great grandson.

Verna J Wirrenga - August 05, 1940 - September 22, 2021

Obituary Preview: Verna J. Wirrenga, 81, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday morning September 22, 2021 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
Verna J Ammon was born August 5, 1940 at Jamestown, ND the daughter of John Ammon and Hulda (Geiszler) Ammon.  She received her elementary education in rural township schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1958.  Following high school graduation, she worked at the Jamestown Hospital in admissions.  In 1962 she started working at the ND State Hospital as a stenographer, switch board operator, estate clerk, and other secretarial positions.
She and Donald Wirrenga were married June 22, 1962 at the American Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND.  They made their first home in Jamestown. In 1979 they moved to Nortonville to the Wirrenga family farm where they farmed, raised a family, while she continued parttime employment at the NDSH.  In 2004 they retired and moved back to Jamestown where they have resided since.
Verna was full of life and had a very outgoing personality; everyone she knew was a friend.  She loved being around other people, visiting, playing cards, playing the accordion and polka dancing.  Verna and Don spent many happy hours on the dance floor.  She really enjoyed being with her family even if it meant camping on a rainy weekend! She was also a gifted seamstress and enjoyed crocheting as well.
Another big part of Verna’s life was her unwavering faith and commitment to the Lord.  She was born and baptized into the Lutheran faith.  She has served the Lord faithfully throughout her life. She was a current member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND where she was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Dorcas Circle.  She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Adrian where she served as Superintendent of Sunday School.   We can all rejoice, learn by her example, and take comfort in this.
Surviving is her husband Don, Jamestown, ND; sons, Wayne (Karlene), Casper, WY; Dion (Shannon) Wirrenga, Bismarck, ND; Davin (Kristi) Wirrenga, Montpelier, ND; 8 grandchildren, Megan (Justin), Austin (Erin), Ashton (Caleb), Jaden (Brooke), Malitta, Omrey, Jadrienne and Gavin; 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Kenton, and Laney; brothers, Melvin (Evelyn) Ammon, Lakeville, MN; Milton (Leona) Ammon, Apple Valley, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Eugene, and infant twin grandsons Otto & Elliott.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday September 29, 2021 in Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Thomas Eckstein, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, ND.

Rau, 80, Arvada, CO,  Mechanic, tractor and aviation enthusiast, lover of God, family and country passed away on Monday September 20, 2021 succumbing to Covid complications in a Denver area hospital.  He is preceded in death by his parents Reinhold and Frieda Rau of Streeter and survived by his wife, Bernice (Mertz), Daughter Karla Batelaan and sons Perry and Rickey. HIs two sisters, JoAnn Wieland and Norma Nelson along with his many nieces and nephews will bitterly miss him and his enthusiastic approach to life and seemingly boundless energy.
Clint was born near Napoleon on December 2, 1940 before growing up on the family farm west of Streeter nd enlisted in the US Navy in 1963.  After service ended in 1968 he and his young family moved to Minneapolis where he grew a successful truck and trailer repair business.  He “retired” in Arvada, CO but continued to spend his time pursuing his passion of rebuilding tractors and restoring his beloved 1960 Impala while driving over the road trucks deep into is 70’s.
Please join friends and family at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, ND on Friday, October 1 at 11AM for a service and burial at Streeter Cemetery followed by a lunch.

Jeanette Zieher - June 06, 1937 - September 14, 2021

Obituary Preview: Jeanette K. Zieher, 84, Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Tuesday, September, 14, 2021 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Jean was born June 6, 1937 in Wisconsin Rapids to William Schenk and Helen (Deranek) Schenk. She graduated from Assumption High School in 1955(the first graduating class). She worked as Secretary in the city clerk’s office from 1955-1967. Jean took a break from work after the birth of her daughter. She returned to work as the Office Manager at Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Credit Union from 1969-1994.  She married Glen Zieher at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids on September 17, 1966. They built a new home in Arpin where they lived for 26 years. There they owned and operated Evergreen Acres (later Arborvitae Acres) Nursery from 1966-1991. In 1994, they moved to Wisconsin Rapids. After retirement they spent countless months on the road traveling to 48 states. They loved the Milwaukee Brewers and made many trips to Brewer games with friends. Their most cherished vacations were made to their cabin in Minocqua, Wisconsin where they entertained many friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Anne (John) Weinzierl of Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Benjamin of Moorhead, MN and Peter of Jamestown, ND; sister, Marjorie Wettstein of Wisconsin Rapids; brother-in-law Harold (Dona) of Hewitt; nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Brian) Dombrowicki, Gary (Debra) Zieher, Cindy (Richard) Weiler, Debra (Alan) Haupt, Jackie (Kevin) Williams, Cheryl (Russell) Altman, Tara (Jade) Tryba, Susan Matthews and Tom Zieher. Also surviving are many dear friends and relatives from the Arpin and Wisconsin Rapids area. Very special neighbors, the Crumps and the Serings, who helped her so much over the past few years.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Emerson Craig, brother, Roger, sister, CG O’Connor, brother-in-law, Phillip Wettstein, brother-in-law Marvin and sister-in-law Shirley, niece, Sandy Schmidt and numerous aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Heritage Centre and Ave Maria Village for the wonderful care they provided for Jean over the last year.

Edna Weispfenning - November 03, 1929 - September 05, 2021

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Edna Weispfenning, 91, Fredonia, ND died Sunday evening September 5, 2021 in the Sanford Medical Center in Aberdeen, SD.
Edna Entzi was born November 3, 1929 the daughter of Edward Entzi and Emma (Ketterling) Entzi.  She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.
She and Milton Weispfenning were married November 8, 1948 at her parent’s home.  They made their home in Fredonia where Milton did various job before starting an excavating business.  Edna was a homemaker and raised her 4 children.  Following the death of her husband in 1978 she continued to reside in Fredonia.  She started babysitting, painting and cleaning.
She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fredonia, ND, where she was involved in ALCW and prepared the Alter for Communion. Through the years she had a love for the Lord. She loved spending time with family, she enjoyed gardening, reading, canning, pickling, cooking and baking for family and friends.  Her specialty being Kuchen and Strudels.  Edna also served 20 years on the city council.
Surviving are one son and two daughters, Glenn (Bev Hawn) Weispfenning, Fredonia, ND; Barbara (Leo) Johnson, Kulm, ND and Jolene Biloff, Jamestown, ND; daughter-in-law, Patty Weispfenning, Fredonia, ND; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 1 sister Etala (Darrel) Ruff, Willmar, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Irene Entzi, Edgeley, ND and Violet Entzi, Fredonia, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Steve, 2 brothers, Harold and Alvin; 2 sisters Esther Fuchs and Adeline Fuchs.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Monday September 13, 2021 in the Haut Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Jamestown, ND, with Rev. Randall Schlecht officiating.
There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at the Martin Luther Lutheran Cemetery, North of Fredonia, ND.

James was born March 1, 1959 in Huron, SD to Shirley and Don Nowell. He graduated from Goodrich High School in 1977. After that he married his true love Bonnie in 1980, and had three daughters.
He enjoyed collecting many different things, movies, guns, and knives are just a few examples. He loved old cars and trucks, and beefing up the engines. He was willing to pass on his knowledge to anyone willing to learn.
James is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and his daughters Teresa (Mike), Amy (Eric), and Cassie (Luann). His mother Shirley, his Pops Allen, and his five siblings, Anita (Kevin), Cindy (Jay), June (Garold), Tom (Suzie), and Jerry (Shanon). Grandchildren, Trystin, Gage, Dreyton, and Donna. Step grandchildren Tina, Charlene, Chris, and Anna Belle, and 7 step great grandchildren.  Along with many nieces, nephews, his dog Thunder and brat cat Jersey.

Frieda was born April 1, 1924 at Kulm, ND, the daughter of Christ and Amelia (Ruff) Welk. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood.
She and Paul Keller were married February 2, 1943 at Merricourt, ND. They made their home there where she worked as a grocery store clerk. In 1958 they moved to Jamestown where she worked as a grocery store clerk at Walsh’s market and Miller’s Fairway until 1976. They enjoyed traveling around the United States visiting every state except Hawaii. Following the death of her husband in 1983, Frieda continued to reside in Jamestown and wintered in Texas for 20 years. In her last 6 years, Frieda resided at Rock of Ages, the Heritage Center, Edgewood and most recently, The Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, ND. Our family would like to thank all the staff for caring for Frieda.
Frieda was a member of the Merricourt Congregational Church and was the church pianist, and taught Sunday school. When they moved to Jamestown, she became a member of the Temple Baptist Church. She was also a life member of the Disabled Vet’s. Frieda was an avid walker, enjoying 4-5 miles per day. She was well known for her German cooking.
She is survived by her son, Roy (Susan) Keller, Batavia, IL; daughter-in-law, Karen Keller, Jamestown, ND; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Arthur Welk, Miller, SD and Ken (Marilyn) Welk, Mandan, ND.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her son Eugene, 1 great grandson, Grant and 1 great grandson Taylor in infancy, 2 brothers, Norman and Walter; 4 sisters, Annetta Geider, Leona Bollinger, Nora Kinzler and Lenora Welk.

He entered the US Army September 28, 1950 at Fargo, ND. He was discharged September 20, 1952 with the rank of PFC.
Elton and Lorraine Clark-Haugen were married May 19, 1956 at Lisbon, ND. They made their home near Dickey/Adrian as dairy farmers from 1956-2001. They moved to Jamestown in 2001 for their retirement.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Adrian, and the VFW in Jamestown.
Elton is survived by 4 children, Michell (Vernon) Weixel, Randall (Peggy) Haugen, Elta (Frank) Bietz, and Corine (Chet) Pollert; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Loren (Leone) Kramer; 3 sisters, Marion Peterson, Elaine Millspaugh, and Ruth (Jim) Lee; and special friends, Roland and Judy Schlenker.

She graduated from St. Catherine High School in Valley City.  She attended NDSU and graduated from Valley City State University in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Biology Education. She and Donald Gienger were married August 5, 1967 in Valley City, ND. They made their home on a farm west of Streeter. She taught high school Science in Streeter and Lehr, and later elementary Music in Napoleon and Gackle.  She taught piano in her home for many years, and was a long-time organist at St. Luke Lutheran Church.  Lila worked at Walmart in Jamestown and the Wishek Community Hospital.   Lila was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Streeter, Streeter Senior Citizens Club, ND Music Teachers Association, and the Bismarck/Mandan Thursday Music Club.   In November 2019, Lila and Don moved to (Heritage Centre in) Jamestown.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, Jamestown, ND; 4 children, Perry, Denver, CO; Lisa Stay, Plymouth, MN; Lora (Igor) Princ, Eden Prairie MN; Paul (Kyla), Fargo, ND; and 8 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Jim, San Anselmo, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Service- 11:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Haut Funeral Chapel.

Obituary Preview: Larry Lee Hofmann was born March 19, 1952 to Rudolph and Esther (Reich) Hofmann in Medina, ND. He passed away on July 27, 2021, in Minot, ND, due to complications from Covid-19. Larry grew up on the family farm and went to school in Medina, graduating from Medina High School in 1970. He then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1972 with an Associates Degree in Accounting. He joined the National Guard in 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1977. He was employed as Office Manager at Country Boy Dairy and as Office Manager and in Sales at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and Westward Products, all in Jamestown. He also worked several years for Charles T. Davis Trucking, both as a driver and doing general truck and diesel engine repair. He started Hofmann Trucking, LLC, along with Curt Waldie on July 1, 1999. They have expanded the company to now include two locations in North Dakota and one in Douglas, Wyoming. He enjoyed all types of sports, both as a spectator and as a participant. He played on the Men’s Slowpitch Softball Team and belonged to Basketball, Volleyball and Bowling Leagues in his younger years. He was a collector of many types of memorabilia, most notably anything with a John Deere logo. Recently he became interested in woodworking. Though he left the farm after high school, he kept the ethic of hard work throughout his life. He didn’t wait for things to happen – he made them happen. He didn’t want himself or those around him to fall in a “comfort zone”. He was always striving to move forward in whatever endeavor he attempted. He married Gerry Tabatt in Jamestown on October 25, 1975. He left Jamestown in 2008, and married Vel Gallaher in 2010. They resided in Tioga, ND. Larry is survived by his wife, Vel; brothers, Reinie and Gordon (Kathy) of Minnesota; sister, Shirley Dahl of Connecticut; uncle, Harry Ruff of Streeter, along with many cousins, two nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

She was born on June 3, 1938, on a farm near Jud, ND, to John and Opal (Schober) Zundel. After graduating from Jud High School, she attended Ellendale Normal College to earn a teaching degree. Karen married Norman on June 15, 1958, and they made their home on a farm southwest of Gackle. For three years, Karen taught grades 1-8 in a country school before she started farming full-time with Norman. They worked side by side for 60 years until retiring in 2017. She loved to work on the farm. They had three children, John, Sheri and Melissa.
Karen was always finding ways to be active in her community. She was a member of the Gackle Homemakers for 50 years, as well as a 4H leader and Logan County election inspector for many years. Her faith was a big part of her life. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Gackle where she served as the church secretary for 25 years and was a member of The Guiding Light Society. If someone needed help, Karen would volunteer with a smile on her face.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Norman; son, John (Ruth) Kleingartner, Gackle, ND; daughter, Sheri Kleingartner, Gackle, ND; daughter, Melissa (Paul) Bergquist, Elk River, MN; brother, Neil (Marion) Zundel, Bismarck, ND; sister, Sandy Schmidt, Dickey, ND; sister, Peggy (Lee) Mack, Bismarck, ND. She was also a beloved Granny to Alexandra and Adam Presler, Dauson and Jessie Kleingartner, and Evelyn Bergquist.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her niece Resa Schmidt and a great nephew Jacob Long.
Karen’s smile, positivity and sunny personality will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Karina Davis was born March 17, 1969 at St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Ron and Barbara (Litt) Davis.  She attended Jamestown High School graduating in 1987.  She then worked for Dakota Brands and Newman Signs.
She and Marc Hoffman were married on September 19, 1994 at Jamestown, ND.  They made their home in Jamestown.  In 1996 she began working for Cavendish where she did quality assurance until becoming ill.
Kari’s hobbies included motorcycle rides with her hubby, hiking, camping, nature watching and driving her convertible.  She had a love for monarch butterflies and daises, along with collecting sea shells and unique rocks on her work trips.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND.
Surviving is her husband Marc, Jamestown, ND, children, Dylan Hoppe, Fargo, ND; Dustin (Kianna) Hoppe, Horace, ND; and Devyn Hoffman, Fargo, ND; 2 sisters, Tina Davis, Jamestown, ND and Jessica Davis, Newport, MN; her parents Ron Davis, Cottage Grove, MN and Barbara Davis, Jamestown, ND; father and mother-in-law, Archie and Sharon Hoffman, Fredonia, ND.

He and Viola Fregien were married March 7, 1958 at Monango, ND. They made their home there where he taught school for many years. They retired and moved to Jamestown. Following the death of his wife in 2001, he continued to live in Jamestown.
Thomas attended the Concordia Lutheran Church, was a member of the Stutsman County Teachers Association. He enjoyed gardening, collecting coins and going to auction sales. He also raised rabbits and liked going to rabbit shows.
He is survived by his son, Keith Norman and daughter, Michelle Norman, both of Jamestown, ND, and 1 sister, Rose Olson, Lisbon, ND.

Obituary Preview: Norman E. Miller, Gackle, ND passed away peacefully on July 16th 2021 at Vibra Hospital in Mandan, ND.
Norman was born August 9th, 1940 at the family farm to Mathilda (Gienger) and Emil Miller.  He was baptized September 27, 1940 at the Neudorf Lutheran church in Neudorf Township and confirmed on July 3rd, 1955 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Gackle.  He received his elementary education in the local Neudorf Township County school.  He went on to graduate from Gackle High School in 1958.  After graduation, he continued to help his parents on the family farm.  In 1960, Norman enlisted in the US Army and served for 2 years.  Fifteen months of that time was spent in Korea.
Norman was a member of the American Legion, served on the FHA board, elevator board, and future development board of Gackle.  He taught Sunday school for 9 years at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Norman married Karen Buerkle on October 24th, 1965 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  They lived on the former Jacob Zenker farm from 1965-1969.  They then made their family home on the Miller family homestead southwest of Gackle.
Norman and Karen were blessed with 2 daughters, Anita born in 1969 and Katina born in 1973.
Norman loved all aspects of farm life with haying season being his favorite.  He grew corn, wheat, soybeans, sunflowers, and flax.  He milked dairy cows for 35 years and had a beef cow herd along side for many years.
“Stormin Norman” was known for his hard work and somewhat unusual ways to farm.  So much so, he was known as the man with 9 lives.  Even in his last days, from his hospital bed, he was farming, giving orders, selling wheat, and planning how to complete those last 3 projects.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen and 2 daughters, Anita (Scott) Hoger, Brenna, Fayth, and Kendyl all of New Salem ND; Katina (Jared) Sprenger and Jace, Mandan, ND; his twin brother , Norbert (Eileen) Miller, West Fargo, ND; Sister-in Laws, Pat Miller, Valley City, ND; JoAnne (Marvin) Miller, Gackle, ND; Marcene (Henry) Veil, Jamestown, ND, Nieces and Nephews, Luther Miller, Randy (Hannah) Miller; Angela ( Hugo) Villareal, Sarah (Adeel) Afzal.    Brian Veil, JoDell (Daryl) Stading, Denise (Kevin) Stoppleworth and many other great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Calvin; his in-laws, Edwin and Alma Buerkle; and one nephew, Todd Veil.

Laraine was born July 25, 1923 at Jamestown, ND the daughter of Edward & Bertha (Remboldt) Otto. She attended the local school in Gackle and grew to womanhood in the area.  She worked at Fritz Kruger Café.
LaRaine and Albert Dorr were married in November of 1943 at the Carl Dorr farm.  They made their home on the Dorr farm for 2 years.  They then moved to a farm NW of Alfred.  Albert died 1956, after purchasing the café in Gackle and moving to Gackle in 1954.
LaRaine Otto-Dorr and Howard Dockter were married August 31, 1961 at Gackle. They made their home in Gackle where she was a cook at the school among other jobs in the Gackle community.  In 1974 they moved to Linton where she worked at the bakery.  They moved back to Gackle in 1993 where they continued to reside until 2019 when she moved into the Gackle Care Center.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church & a 70-year auxiliary Legion Member.  She loved to bowl, golf and playing cards.  Crocheting was a passion of hers along with bingo and crafts that included quilting.
LaRaine is survived by her 3 children, Jenneice (Myron) Sommerfeld, Valley City, ND; Deborah (Neil) Schott, Alfred, ND; Lance (Doug) Dockter, Willmar, MN and 1 granddaughter, Bonnie Sommerfeld; and sister in-law, Phyllis Otto.

Wendell was born July 12, 1937 in Nome, ND and was raised by Hjalmar and Ida Kopperud. He attended and graduated Nome High School. He moved on to Valley City State College to pursue teaching and earned his degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Morris.
He married Judy Benson on February 20, 1960.  They lived in Nome, Valley City, ND, Benson, MN, and then moved to Wheaton, MN where Wendell taught elementary school until his retirement. Wendell and Judy then returned to North Dakota to be closer to their family.
Wendell’s biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He always had his quick wit and a smile.  He enjoyed working with wood and sharing his projects with others.  Wendell enjoyed telling stories of his past, especially his time in Nome, ND.  After his retirement from teaching, Wendell spent many years filling in as lay pastor for several churches throughout Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota. He loved getting to know the members of the churches in several rural communities. Wendell loved to spend time in his garden and enjoyed looking at the gardens of others. He had a passion for looking at classic cars, going through car parking lots, and going for a drive at any time. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, even when it made him “mad in the face”.
He was a member of the New Hope Free Lutheran Church.

He entered the US Army September 8, 1961 at Fargo, ND. He worked in Directional Control. He was discharged September 6, 1963 at Fort Lewis, WA with the rank of SP-4.
Philip worked in Jamestown for Everett’s Construction until the spring of 1968.
He and Alice Plaggemeyer were married May 11, 1968 at Pierre, SD. They made their home there and he worked for Johnson Brothers building I-90 and I-29. In 1970 they moved back to Jamestown where he was self-employed. In 1978 they moved to Montpelier where he continued to work in construction until 2000 when he had a heart attack and was unable to work.
Philip and Alice loved to travel. He loved all the kids in the area and always had hard candy for them on the dash of his white pick up.
