Joanne Alberta Rumsey - January 27, 1933 - October 04, 2021

Departed: 10/04/2021 (Corning)
Obituary Preview: Joanne Randall Rumsey
To know Joanne Rumsey would take a lifetime, but there are a few things to know of her spirit. She had a strong love for cats, ice cream, Chinese takeout, backroads, and the colors of upstate New York. She was a New Yorker, through and through, and the spirit of her northern home permeated every fiber of her being. She melted her Mary Janes on hot coffee mugs and taught her granddaughter to do the same. She loved her husband, Tracy Rumsey, with all the passion you'd expect from a woman with hair like a copper penny (an auburn that gave way to snowy white in her older age). They were together always, paired for eternity as wife and husband, mother and father, and grandma and grandpa. She raised four daughters, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, loving them all as fiercely as one could. The same individuality that was so striking in her, she instilled and inspired in them.
Joanne was not without her beauty and elegance—she had a keen sense of style and would never say no to a hair and nail appointment. She was also one of faith. Church, to her, meant receiving the spirit of God as well as those of her many friendships.
She was born in Lindley, passed in Lindley, but she traveled far in between. Despite her roots in nature, she was even a woman of New York City for a time. Though wherever she went, Tracy was with her, and her family was never far behind. Joanne never missed a birthday or a holiday, writing cards and sending notes to remind her loved ones she was thinking of them. She went to the beach, gathered for dinner, traveled, and spent as much time with her family as she possibly could have. She loved them, and they love her in return. She was as funny, sharp, and independent as she was loving and loyal. If her family needed her, there was never doubt; she would be there.
I can tell you about the sound of her laugh, the food she made, the jokes she laughed at, or her many Joanne-isms, but we'd be here for ages. Joanne's soul has left this place, but all the unique pieces of her sense of self have fragmented and settled into each of her daughters. And subsequently, into the many children that have followed. Joanne, and Tracy, and the beautiful life they created together, are deeply rooted in their part of the world and beyond. She will live on forever, embodied by those that had the great fortune of knowing, loving, and being loved by her. She will always give us strength.
Joanne Randall Rumsey, 88 of Lindley Presho, NY went to be with her Lord & Savior and surrounded by her loving family on October 4, 2021.
Joanne was born January 27, 1932, in Lindley, NY, the youngest daughter of Earle and Catherine Beeman Randall. She graduated from Painted Post High School and attended Corning Community College. Joanne married her husband and love of her life, Tracy W Rumsey, 68 years ago in Presho, NY.
Joanne is survived by her husband Tracy W Rumsey at home, her daughters, and families: Tanya (Mark) Jacobus and Aaron and Andrew; Tammy (Michael) Morrissey and Joshua (Avery); Tracy Ann Rumsey and Rachael, Thomas, and Amanda; Terri (Rick) Bower and Zachary. Her great grandchildren Madison and Parker Jacobus.
She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wanda (Gorden) VanHusen, Roger (Lottie) Rumsey, John (Susan) Rumsey, Marjorie Rumsey, Betty Rumsey, and Philip Smith. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Including a special niece Sandy Buman. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings and spouses. Alton (Barbara) Randall; Joyce (Elwin) Snyder; Evelyn (Marvin) French; Gerald Rumsey; Doris Smith; Glenn Rumsey; Anna (Reuben) Jacoby.
A Celebration of her Life / Memorial Service will be held according to Joanne's wishes at the Lindley Community Church on October 23, 2021 at 11 AM with Pastors Garrett Plitt and Ron Head officiating. Burial will be in Presho Cemetery.
