Obituary Preview: Grace D. Kaminski, 88, of Latrobe, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 at her home. She was born April 9, 1936 in Bovard, a daughter of the late James and Grace (Merenda) DeRoss.
Prior to her retirement, Grace was employed by Commercial Bank and Trust in Latrobe. After retirement, she was instrumental in starting the Commercial National Bank retiree’s luncheons. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Latrobe, the St. John Rosary Altar Christian Mothers, and the St. John Seniors. She was also a member of St. Vincent College Women’s Auxiliary, the St. Vincent Senior Citizens, and volunteered at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas D. Kaminski, an infant son, a brother Salvatore J. DeRoss; and in-laws: Robert and Josephine Kaminski and Shirley and Stanley Haynackie. She is survived by her loving daughter Cynthia Kaminski; her sister Connie Cordial; her sister-in-law Sandy DeRoss; her brother-in-law David Kaminski and his wife Carol; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends will be received Tuesday, April 30th from 4 to 7 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. Members of the St. John Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 3:30 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Janet was a life member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown where she formerly served as a member of the church cemetery association.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William D. Hebenthal, on April 2nd of this year, and a son William D. Hebenthal Jr.
She is survived by two children, Jenny Nyland (Leonard) and Robert N. Hebenthal (Sandy); seven grandchildren: Rachele Flock (Josh), Jeanna Foley (Brennan), William Nyland, Kayla Nyland, Shelby Hale (Philip), Robert W. Hebenthal, and Hunter N. Hebenthal; and five great grandchildren: Abigail, Charlotte, Alexandria, Ralph, and Benjamin.

Obituary Preview: Kathryn (Kay) Herb of Latrobe went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2024. Kay was 101, born October 9, 1922, in McClure, PA, the daughter of the late Bertha and James Klinger, Sr. of McClure; she was one of 8 Klinger siblings including her twin, Polly.
Kay was a graduate of McClure High School Class of 1940 and attended Kutztown College for 2 years before enlisting in the US Marine Corps with twin sister Polly and brother Bud. She served our Nation at Camp Lejeune, NC 1943-1945. Shortly after her service she married Curtis W Herb from Bechtelsville, PA. with whom she shared her love and life for 68 years.
Kay loved gardening, playing tennis and golf, but her true passion was serving others. She was a faithful member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church where she was active in various women’s groups and Bible studies. Kay was a founding member and steadfast servant in the LPC Caring Christians and Prayer Chain ministry team serving for over 15 years.
She will be most remembered by family and friends as one who showed Christian kindness and compassion to all whose lives she touched. Her example of God’s love and service is her legacy. As a wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, she was a role model. After a few years at Barnes Place in Latrobe Kay moved to Lake Oconee Georgia to live out her life in loving care of family.
Kay was predeceased by husband Curtis W. and son, Jeffery W. of Bradenville, PA. She is survived by Jeffery’s wife Tristine, son Michael C. and wife Martha of Buckhead, GA, and Andrew B. and wife Sis of Northern, VA. She has four grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua, Matthew, and Courtney; and four great grandchildren, Caleb, Eliana, Josiah, and Micah.

Edward Marshall Schmidbauer - April 04, 1933 - April 04, 2024

Obituary Preview: Edward Marshall “Ted” Schmidbauer, 91, of Latrobe, passed away on his birthday, Thursday, April 4, 2024 in Independence Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born April 4, 1933 in Chester, West Virginia, a son of the late Otto Albert Schmidbauer and Susan Irene (Marshall) Schmidbauer.
Ted graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to Oakmont, PA after accepting a job with Westinghouse where he worked on nuclear reactors for submarines. He was then transferred to the Derry Westinghouse Plant producing insulators. He worked for Westinghouse for 42 years until the plant was sold to ICI, where he continued to work for another seven years, retiring in 1996. He served on the Derry Area School Board over a span of 38 years and was the Derry representative on the board of the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center. He was a member of Latrobe Community Ministries. He also served on the Board for the Adams Memorial Library, was an officer in the local offices of AARP, and was active with the local Republican Committee.
Ted was always eager to learn new things, even continuing his education by taking courses after his retirement. He enjoyed bowling and was an excellent square dancer, serving as president of the Mountain View Squares. His favorite pastime however was attending and supporting all of the activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Melvina A. (Province) Schmidbauer, and his brother Donald Schmidbauer and his wife Audrey.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy S. Dorazio (Dennis) and Linda A. Bowman (Chuck); two grandchildren, Nicholas E. Dorazio (Michelle) and Stephanie S. Pienaar (Charlie); two great grandchildren: Natalie and Alexis Pienaar; and a number of nieces and nephews including Pamela June and Donna May Schmidbauer.
Friends will be received Friday April 5th from 4 to 7 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. Bill was a veteran of the US Navy serving aboard the USS Albany CA 123 during the Korean War. Prior to retirement in 1987, he was employed as a crane operator for Latrobe Steel Company having 32 years of service and was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1537. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown. He was a life member of Loyalhanna Lodge #275 F&AM in Latrobe, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Coudersport Consistory and the Pittsburgh Syria Shriners. He was also a member of the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515 in Latrobe and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Latrobe Lodge #907.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, William D. Hebenthal Jr., his sister Sally Cmar, and his aunt and uncle who were his foster parents, Hazel and George Cicero. He is survived by his wife of over 73 years, Janet L. (Nicely) Hebenthal; two children, Jenny Nyland (Leonard) and Robert N. Hebenthal (Sandy); seven grandchildren: Rachele Flock (Josh), Jeanna Foley (Brennan), William Nyland, Kayla Nyland, Shelby Hale (Philip), Robert W. Hebenthal, and Hunter N. Hebenthal; and five great grandchildren: Abigail, Charlotte, Alexandria, Ralph, and Benjamin.

Obituary Preview: Richard C. “Dick” Crawford, 87, of Latrobe, passed away peacefully Tuesday March 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 13, 1936 in Latrobe, a son of the late Homer W. and Gladys L. (Rose) Crawford.
Dick was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement in 1995, he was employed by Latrobe Steel having over 34 years of service. He was a life member of the Christ United Church of Christ in Latrobe where he had previously served as an Elder, a Deacon, president of Church Council and a member of the church choir. He was also a member and past Commander of the Pipetown American Legion Post 982 and a 50 year member of F&AM Latrobe Lodge 275. A talented singer, he was a member of the Latrobe Community Choir and sang at many events over the years. As a man of all trades, he was proud of the fact that he built his own home where he and his wife Mary raised their family. He was an avid Latrobe Sports fan, rarely missing a game or match. Other favorite pastimes included bowling, golfing, and talking politics, but his favorite was spending time with his grandchildren who he was proud of and loved very much.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a grandson, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Paul Stewart III, his brother John Crawford, and his sister Carol Crawford.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Mary A. (Kozamchak) Crawford; five children: Lynn A. Stewart (Michael), John E. Crawford (Lori), Sandy L. Fannie (Mark), Richard C. Crawford II, and Valerie A. DeMichele (Scott Valerio); grandchildren: Jason Stewart, Jacob Crawford (Meagan), Jared (Annika) and Hannah Crawford, Alexis Springer (John), Mario and Anthony Fannie, Luke (Katie) and Lindsey (Codee) Crawford, and Riley and Megan DeMichele; great grandchildren: Josie and Ava Crawford and Adyson and Layne Alcorn; sister-in-law Shirley Dietrick; brother-in-law Joseph Kozamchak (Connie); several nieces and nephews; and his loyal grand dog Sarge.

Obituary Preview: Wayne Patrick Saxman, 78, of Latrobe, formerly of Irwin, passed away Tuesday March 12, 2024. He was born March 17, 1945 in Latrobe, a son of the late George “Bud” and Gertrude (Henry) Saxman.
Wayne was a graduate of Norwin High School, class of 1963. He was US Air Force veteran and served in the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he was a mechanical designer having worked in several different locations. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 781 in Irwin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Saxman in 2023 and his former wife, Diana (Schulte) Saxman.
He is survived by a son, Erik G. Saxman of Beaver Falls, his sister Linda Saxman of Jacksonville, FL, a brother Donald Saxman (Connie) of Irwin; and five nieces.

Obituary Preview: Charles S. “Chuck” Derito, 67, of Derry, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2024 in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born May 15, 1956 in Latrobe, a son of the late Charles J. and Ann (Sartoris) Derito.
Chuck was a 1975 graduate of Derry Area High School and for the last 40 years has been a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union where he worked as a superintendent until his retirement in 2021. He was a devout catholic and a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Derry and the St. Vincent Assembly 918 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and enjoyed riding his Harley on many adventures.
Chuck will be remembered for his positive attitude, his love of helping others, his quick witted sense of humor, and spending quality time with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kimberly (Campbell) Derito, his daughter and namesake Charlene Derito, his daughter Coletta Ballash, his sister Madlyn Derito, his brother Bob Derito (Debora), his niece and godchild Alanna Derito-Gaudiello (Tim), and extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Agnes N. Miller, 101, of Latrobe, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 in the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Greensburg. She was born November 12, 1922 in Portage, PA, a daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Clare A. (White) Noel.
Prior to retirement in 1996, Agnes was employed as an executive secretary for Proctor and Gamble in Pittsburgh and also worked in accounting for Culligan Water and Southwest Travel in Greensburg. She was a member of St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Latrobe and the St. Rose Rosary Altar Christian Mothers. She also volunteered at Westmoreland Hospital.
Agnes was well known for her strong will to live, her great sense of humor, and her contagious laugh. Her love of travel and adventure with her daughters and grandchildren created many precious memories that will live on in their lives.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Miller in 2006, a daughter Mary Jo Miller, a grandson David Toman, and her brother the Rev. Damian Noel T.O.R.
She is survived by three daughters: Beth Ann Shogan (James), Barbara Toman (Randy), and Rebecca Goltz (Curtis); four grandchildren: Courtney Wilfong (Josh), Mackenzie Sendro (Ryan), Jamie Jiricka (Joe), and Stacie Dattoli (Vince); four great grandchildren: Ryder Wilfong, Juliet Sendro, and Jackson and Jensen Jiricka; a great granddaughter Harlow arriving in March, two sisters, Rosemary Combs and Irene Stein; and a number of devoted nieces and nephews.
Agnes’ family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Bridges Hospice and the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the care she received in her final days. Also appreciated is her Loyalhanna Senior Suites family where she enjoyed many friendships over the past nine years.

Michael A Bravis, Jr. - December 10, 1939 - February 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: Michael A. Bravis, Jr., 84, of Latrobe, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on December 10, 1939 in Latrobe, a son of the late Michael and Martha (Kish) Bravis.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Army where he served with the National Guard. Prior to his retirement, he was a steel worker at Latrobe Steel for 38 years. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Lloydsville Sportsman, 1st Ward Fireman’s Club, and the Jenner Rod and Gun Club. He served with the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years in many capacities, including Assistant Chief. Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
Mike developed a passion for woodworking over the years, and is credited with many custom-cabinetry kitchens in Latrobe and special hand-crafted items in the homes of family and friends everywhere.
His love of hunting and the outdoors was shared especially with his son Michael, who traveled with him many times on hunting adventures.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Lou Bravis (Breeze) with whom he was blessed to have been married to for 60 years. He is survived by his children, Michael A. Bravis of Franklin, PA, and Brenda Nigh and her husband Kevin of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, Ben, Danny, Sam (Sum Ying Lam), and Audrey Nigh; and his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Barry Clark of Latrobe.
A special thank you from the family to Katharine Goldberg, RN, his sister-in-law, who was always there to help him with health crises, no matter how big or small.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 11AM at Unity Chapel, 114 Chapel Lane, Latrobe PA 15650 with Father George Saletrik officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33, Greensburg Honor Guard. Susannah M. Calvo - July 21, 1940 - January 30, 2024

Obituary Preview: Susannah M. Calvo, 83, of Latrobe, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born July 21, 1940, in Apollo, PA, a daughter of the late Walter and Josephine (Henderson) Jones.
In addition to her parents, Susannah was preceded in death by her husband, Delfino P. Calvo, sister Sarah Weinel, brother Daniel Jones, brother David Jones who passed away this past Wednesday, and stepdaughter Deleen DeMary. She is survived by her sister, Kathryn Mawhinney, her stepson, Daniel Calvo, her grandchildren Michael Nicol and his wife Lauren, Brock Smith and his wife Colleen, Tim Smith, and Colleen Calvo Bessey. Although she didn’t have children of her own, her nieces, nephews and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She cherished spending time with each one of them. She was proud to be the great grandmother of Grant Smith, Matthew Nicol, Berkley Smith, and Finnegan Pasquale Bessey.
Susannah attended Washington Area High School and went on to earn her bachelor's and master’s degrees in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She dedicated her career to teaching and inspiring students at Derry Area High School from 1963 to 1995. She was the ultimate example of what a devoted and excellent teacher should aspire to be. Susannah directed various ensembles, including junior and senior high school ensembles, concert choir, women’s, and ninth-grade chorus. Her true passion was evident through her direction of 26 musicals from 1970 to 1995.
Susannah was devoted to her faith and God, and was an energetic member of Latrobe Presbyterian Church, where she found joy in her various responsibilities and loves such as Music Education, Choir, Bells, W.O.W. leader, Chair of Worship and Music, and Clerk of Sessions.
Outside of her career and church involvement, Susannah dedicated her time to numerous hobbies and organizations within her community. She served as the president of the Latrobe Hospital Ladies Aid Society twice. She volunteered at the Little Shop at Latrobe Area Hospital and was pivotal in having Barbara Bush come to Latrobe to speak. Even after retiring from teaching, she continued to work for the betterment of education at the Derry Area School District Foundation. As a board member of the DASD Foundation and Chairman of the Amphitheater Committee, she was pivotal in the creation of the amphitheater that is on the campus of Derry Area School District and enjoyed by thousands of people each year.
Whether you were a family member, former student, colleague, friend, or just an acquaintance, you knew that she loved life and enjoyed her family. She was strong willed and had a devotion to her church and God. Her laugh was contagious and her ability to pull the best out of everyone was remarkable. Every one of her former students admired and respected her. Her uncanny ability to delegate and organize made her the perfect ambassador for everything she truly cared about at school, the hospital, or home. She had a passion for traveling with her late husband Delfino to Italy to gather with his sisters Mary Costanzo and Sylvia Paracca. Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations at the Calvo residence were the bedrock of her shared family values.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Redstone Highlands, Latrobe Area Hospital and Excela Home Care & Hospice for their wonderful and professional care, concern, and treatment throughout these past 3 and half months.
Friends and family will be received at the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc. 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe, Friday February 2nd from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. Craig was the owner of Dufford’s Mobile Home Service & Repair for over 36 years, a family business started by his father which he took over upon his father’s passing. Later in life after they raised a family, he regained his love of riding motorcycles along with his wife, riding for fun and for many charities with his new family of friends.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Sandra (Carmino) Dufford; his daughter, Christy and son-in-law Joshua Wills; his son, Craig T. Dufford Jr.; his sister, Ellen Proctor; and his brothers, Robert (Kathy) Dufford, and Mark (Cheryl) Dufford; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family members.
There will be no public viewing or services. A celebration of life will be held on May 11, 2024 from noon until 6PM at Hempfield Park, Pavilion A, 220 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg PA 15601. Craig was a Veteran of the United States Navy and as a Corpsman served during the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart during the battle of Khe Sanh. He worked over 33 years as a Social Worker at Torrence State Hospital.
He was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe and the Derry Rod and Gun Club. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and riding his Harley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Randy C. Simmons; and his brothers, Henry and Terry Simmons. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda L. Butler; his son, Robin A. Simmons and his wife Kelly (Ianni) Simmons; his grandchildren, Olivia, and Anthony “Tony” Simmons; his brother John and his wife Diane; sister-in-law Sue (Simmons) Vogel and husband Rich; sister-in-law Pam Simmons; his brother Mike and his wife Peg; and brother-in-law Bill and his wife Deb.

Prior to retirement in 1987, Elva was a teacher’s aide and assistant with the Derry Area School District. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church where she was quite active in her younger years. She was also active with Welcome Wagon and her favorite pastimes included: bowling, line dancing, playing cards, bingo, going to casinos, and watching sports on TV, especially the Steelers. She loved spending time with her family and made friends wherever she was.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederic C. Coder; and two brothers, Harold Willman (Wink), and Richard Willman (Helen). Prior to retirement, she worked part time at the Eckerd Drug store and also did seasonal work at the Westmoreland County Treasurer’s office. She was a six-term democratic committee member. Cooky loved all the time she spent traveling with her parents. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading history and English literature, and watching and feeding wildlife.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her special friend who was like family, Gerald “Gerry” Bee; her nephew, David Bennett; and her brother-in-law, James Bennett. She is survived by her loving husband, Peter Walinski; her sister, Sarah “Sally” Bennett; her nieces and nephew, Jami, Tammi, and Jonathan; two great nieces; three great nephews; three great great nieces; one great great nephew; two special cousins, Mary Lou Smolleck Brown and Ernest Bazzy; and her good friend, Ronald Clark.

After retirement Mike made New Braunfels, Texas his home for the past 27 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ginny, and his brothers Thomas and Richard.
