Lawrence D. "Larry" Clark - Unknown - April 11, 2022

Departed: 04/11/2022 (McVeytown)
Obituary Preview: Lawrence D. "Larry" Clark, Jr., 86, of Oliver Township, McVeytown, died at his home on  April 11, 2022.
He was born in Kittanning Township, Armstrong County, PA  to the late Lawrence D. Clark, Sr. and Hazel K. (Stubrich) Clark.
He obtained his B.S. in Education with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Biology in 1958 at the Indiana State College, Indiana, PA.  Mr. Clark achieved his college education largely on his own by working on construction sites, sometimes with his father. His teaching career was mostly in Mifflin County, first at Highland Park Elementary and next at Strodes Mills Elementary, where he was appointed building principal shortly after its opening. In the 1970's he taught in one of two district Science Labs, which may be best remembered for its planetarium. In the early 1980's he learned computer science, gaining a Master's Equivalency, and instructed both students and fellow teachers in computer science. He then briefly taught at Strodes Mills Middle School before returning to the elementary school to complete 28 years with the district.
Following his retirement, he taught 55 Alive Courses and then assisted in the formation of the Citizen's Help Group, particularly focusing on fair tax assessment and the rights of the Amish, whom he admired. Later he greatly enjoyed working on behalf of Mifflin County citizens while employed at H & R Block for over 15 years. He remained a life-long student and tried to share his love of learning with everyone.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Michael) Farleman of NY; a son, Allen, of SC; five grandchildren, Benjamin Farleman, Laura (Ryan) Sjoquist, Elizabeth (Christopher) LaRue, Jorja Clark and Adam Clark; three great-grandsons; a favorite niece, Darlene Fiscus; and best friend, Nancy Machmer.
Mr. Clark was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Kathryn Fiscus.
Burial was private. However, a memorial service is being planned for a future date and will be announced.
The family suggests donations may be made to the Strodes Mills Elementary School, for a science fund in Mr. Clark's name, or a science organization of one's choice.
