Departed: 01/01/1800 (East Hanover)
Obituary Preview: Neale Kevin Baxter departed this world on January 9, 2021. He was born in 1953 in Orange NJ. His family moved to East Hanover in 1959, which has remained his home ever since. Neale is a 1972 graduate of Hanover Park High School, and a 1978 graduate of Salem College, in Salem, W. Va where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Neale was very active with a fraternity there and has remained in close contact with two of his fraternity brothers since.
Neale and family grew up on Chicjon Lane where where they shared many happy years and memories with neighbors that became lifelong friends. Many happy years were spent playing hide and seek on summer nights and skating at Lurker Park in the winter, as well as touch football in neighbors' yards.
He was employed by American Society of Mechanical Engineers of Fairfield NJ in the shipping and receiving Dept. for over 30 years. Neale became very involved at St Rose of Lima church as an usher, and always volunteered to help with fund raisers, picnics etc. He was a member of the CERT Team in East Hanover where he was trained in Emergency Response.
In the 1980's and 90's the Baxter family enjoyed summers at the family home in Seaside Park. Neale and his Dad learned to sail and bought a sailboat which they sailed around the bay. Neale also went on a couple of chartered sailboat vacations to the US Virgin Islands and more.
Neale was a happy go lucky guy with a big heart and smile. He was a kind and generous man. He became a very active member of the East Hanover Knights of Columbus where his love of people was so evident. Father Owen of St Rose describes him as "True Blue". He was a 4th degree Color Guard, Warden and Sir Knight. He loved the Tank Pull fund raiser and the Knights of Columbus People with Intellectual Disabilities Fund Drive. He was usually the top producer for fund raising because he always had a cheerful attitude and a big smile. He volunteered to help with picnics, parties, and all activities. He formed deep friendships of brotherly love with this very special group of men who called him an "angel." He is described as a shining light for this honorable group of men.
Neale also worked the election polls and frequented businesses around town where so many knew him and called him friend. He loved The Beach Boys and 1950's doo wop music. He enjoyed many of the summer concerts at Lurker Park. He kept in touch with lifelong friends and relatives, giving a friendly call to say hello and always sent out Christmas cards.
As a final act of generosity and kindness, Neale has donated his organs so that he may help others heal or live.He is predeceased by his father, John H Baxter(Jack), and Vivian Tully Baxter as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brother Dennis J. Baxter of East Hanover, his sister Patricia (Patty) Baxter of Rockaway, and beloved niece, Brianna Baxter of East Hanover.
His departure from this life is premature and he will be so greatly missed by his family and friends. We take comfort knowing he is with the Lord, imagining he has a special place saved for him at the table. We know he is reunited with his parents and relatives, and maybe even going out for a sail with his Dad once again. He will always be a hero in our hearts and considered an angel who walked among us. Our lives were truly blessed by his love and friendship.
