Eleanor was born on March 13, 1934 in Omaha, NE to parents Toney Vernon and Elsie Mae (Renner) Boardman She married the love of her life, Dave "Sonny" Dennis Jr. and had 4 Children. Roxanne, Kathy, Toni and Dave "Rusty" Dennis III. Eleanor enjoyed most her time outside in her garden looking for rocks to polish or just watching the birds. Inside she quilted, baked pie's and loved her football. She enjoyed talking with people. She worked many Jobs but her favorite was being a waitress. She was a artist and loved drawing & painting. Her beautiful flowers were a testament to her green thumb. She was a collector of Antiques and rocks of all kinds. Many quilts were made by her hands. Family and friends were always important to her.Preceded in death by her parents, husband Dave Dennis Jr. and Daughter Roxanne McNew and Grandson Sonny Dennis.Eleanor is survived by Son Dave "Rusty" Dennis, Daughters Kathy Sell, and Toni Dennis; Grandchildren Amanda Rupp, Austin Neukirch, Monica Clancy, Cory McKinstry, Amber Sell, Remington Sell, Paige Sell, Jenifer Just, Jessica McNew, Traci Dennis, Billi Dennis, Terri Dennis and numerous Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren a Brothers Butch (Cheri) Boardman and Bobby Boardnman. Obituary Preview: Gerald (Jerry) McKinstryJerry was born west of Weeping Water near Wasbash, NE to George and Ruby McKinstry on May 8,1938. He spent his entire lif in Cass County, Nebraska. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruby (Swenton) McKinstry; two brothers Charles and Doyle: sister Wilma; son Eugene; daughter Theresa Bauers; and his loving wife Alberta. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws John and Hulda Graham, two brothers-in-law and two sister-in-laws.Jerry was born west of Weeping Water, near Wabash. His folks eventually moved to Murray where he attended school for one and half years until they moved out to the old farm north of Weeping Water. He then went to a country school called Chilson through the 8th grade. After that he attended Weeping Water High School graduating in 1956. His first job was in Manley working in a repair shop. He made fifty cents an hour! Later he started working in the quarry driving a truck over the road.In 1955, he met a girl in town one Saturday night. After conversation, he made a date for the following Saturday night. Jerry said that this girl sure made a pair of Levi's look good and she was also great. Her name was Bert and they soon fell in love. She was always beautiful in his eyes and he loved her very much. Bert graduated May 20, 1958, and then were married soon after on June 15, 1958. Jerry and Bert had three wonderful children, Gene, born in 1960, Theresa, born in 1962, and Gary, born in 1965.Jerry worked for Asplundh Tree Company from 1958 to 1962 and then went work for Ash Grove Cement Company until his retirement in 2000.Jerry was always interested in old cars and motorcycles. He rode his first motorcycle when he was 16 years old. It was a 1936 Harley. He owned his first motorcycle in 1960, a 1942 Harley. Following that he had a 1950, 1986 1989, 2022 and his last was a 2016.Jerry and Bert took a lot of trips and enjoyed them all. The longest 4200 miles through Canada, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. They also loved to camp and boat. Jerry has said that he truly thinks his marriage was made in heaven because they both enjoyed doing the same things.In 1982, they lost their dear son Gene and grieved this loss heavily. In 2006 Bert was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and left Jerry to go to heaven on November 9, 2015. Obituary Preview: David Nielsen – 86 of Weeping Water, NE, passed away peacefully on January 3 rd , 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Syracuse, NE. David was born to Carter and Lola Mae (Buskirk) Nielsen on December 29 th , 1937, in Weeping Water.He is survived by his brother Dale (Sharon) Nielsen of Weeping Water, NE. Son, Dan (Sallie) Nielsen, daughter Kathy (Monty) Milburn, both of Avoca, NE. Grandchildren, Eric (Kara), Ryan, Adam (Amy), and Alec Nielsen. Mike (Laura) and Brian (Lindsey) Sorensen. Dawnelle (Bryan) Evans, Kevin (Shannon Herrick) Baxter, Sonja Norris, and 20 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by many other family members, numerous customers, neighbors, and friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Lola Mae, brothers, Donald and Dwain, wife Beth and stepson Bill Norris.David grew up on a farm outside of Weeping Water. There, he and his brothers learned the meaning of hard work, which he passed down. After high school, Dave went to the Army. He then went to work after returning from the Army, at Allied Chemical where he would have said he learned his ornery streak. After that, he worked for Bartlet Grain company. In Dave’s late 20s, he married Elizabeth Blessing, August 31st,1963. Together in this union, a son Dan was born and was welcomed to the family by Beth’s daughter and son, Kathy and Bill. This union was a blessed one. Filled with love and laughter with the occasional joke with a side of sarcasm.Dave started Nielsen Brothers with his brother Dale. A few years later, it changed over to Nielsen Fertilizer. From this, they established many friends and life-long customers.Dave was involved with many businesses, political ventures, and boards. Along with the many years with Nielsen Fertilizer, he was also Manager at the Cass County Co-op. Advocate to Farm-Aid, Rural Water board for 50 years, worked for the NRD, and was a Cass County commissioner. All of this and still made time for his family.In one of the many stories from his life that Dan recalls, Dave and his brothers were left to keep the farm going while their parents went out of town. The boys were strictly told not to drive anywhere. This was back in the day when you drove a car in reverse, the miles would come offthe speedometer. Obituary Preview: Rita Mae Brinkhoff, 77, from Avoca, NE, passed away in Lincoln, NE on December 1, 2023. Born to Gilbert and Gladys Neumeister on September 21, 1946, in Nebraska City, NE, Rita attended a country school near Avoca and graduated from Avoca High School in 1964, where she met Darrel. They married on October 18, 1968, at First Lutheran Church, North Branch, Avoca, NE, and together raised three daughters and one son.Rita's passions included sewing and crafting, and every Christmas after all the other gifts were open, she would pass out the handmade gifts she created throughout the year. She was also a talented quilt maker, ensuring each grandchild received a special baby quilt. Rita was a wonderful cook and baker, and passed on those talents to her children. In the summer, she could be found in the garden or caring for the farm animals, making her a wonderful 4-H leader available to help with any project. However, her greatest joy came from her grandchildren, attending all their activities, emphasizing the importance of family.Rita is survived by her children Robin (Chris) Post of Eagle, NE, Stacey (Tim) Gunderson of Davey, NE, Dawn (Daryl) Fichter of Missouri Valley, IA, and Nick (Karin) Brinkhoff of Hanover, MN. Her grandchildren include Joshua (Jennifer Stickler), Mackenzie (Colton Elliott), and Noah Post, Ethan, Connor, Brody, and Cole Gunderson, Riley, Alec, and Nikayla Fichter, and Mason and Russell Brinkhoff. Obituary Preview: Roberta Tipton 81 of Grand Island, formerly of Weeping Water and Adams Nebraska, was born on Dec. 17,1941 in Beatrice, the oldest child of Howard and Renstina (Schmidt) Rathe . She grew up in the Adams area and attended Adams Public School until her freshman year in high school when the family moved to a farm in the rural Weeping Water area. She graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1960 and immediately moved to Lincoln with a classmate. She worked at the University of Nebraska in the Dairy Science and later the Animal Science department. She met James Tipton, who worked in the dairy plant and store on East Campus, and they married on January 29, 1965. They stayed in Lincoln where their oldest daughter, Rhonda, was born in 1967. While expecting their younger daughter, Lisa, in1969, they made the decision to open an upholstery shop with her parents, working out of the basement of Her parents large house north of Weeping Water. Roberta and James moved to a house in rural Weeping Water in 1973. Rathe Upholstery did business until 1982 when her parents retired. She then started J & R Upholstery while James worked in a limestone mill full-time. In January of 1992 James had a massive heart attack, soon after they purchased a house in Weeping Water. James passed away later in 1992 also fighting cancer in his jaw. Roberta continued to live in the Weeping Water area, working as a bus driver and janitor at the school while also working part-time at the grocery store and her upholstery shop. In 2011 Roberta moved with her daughter, Lisa’s, family to Juniata and later to Grand Island while Lisa went to nursing school. She was active in the United Methodist church in Juniata, working with a quilting group there. After moving to Grand Island, she took a part time job at her granddaughter’s elementary school, Seedling Mile. She worked there for 3 years, then (finally) retiring. She was tragically killed in a car accident with her granddaughter, Opal Wylie.She was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary at Post #237 and county level. She was the unit treasurer and membership chair at the time of her death. She continued to visit friends and family in the Weeping Water area every chance she got. Roberta knew very few stranger wherever she went. Roberta Tipton 81 of Grand Island, formerly of Weeping Water and Adams Nebraska, was born on Dec. 17,1941 in Beatrice, the oldest child of Howard and Renstina (Schmidt) Rathe . She grew up in the Adams area and attended Adams Public School until her freshman year in high school when the family moved to a farm in the rural Weeping Water area. She graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1960 and immediately moved to Lincoln with a classmate. She worked at the University of Nebraska in the Dairy Science and later the Animal Science department. She met James Tipton, who worked in the dairy plant and store on East Campus, and they married on January 29, 1965. They stayed in Lincoln where their oldest daughter, Rhonda, was born in 1967. While expecting their younger daughter, Lisa, in 1969, they made the decision to open an upholstery shop with her parents, working out of the basement of Her parents large house north of Weeping Water. Roberta and James moved to a house in rural Weeping Water in 1973. Rathe Upholstery did business until 1982 when her parents retired. She then started J & R Upholstery while James worked in a limestone mill full-time. In January of 1992 James had a massive heart attack, soon after they purchased a house in Weeping Water. James passed away later in 1992
also fighting cancer in his jaw. Roberta continued to live in the Weeping Water area, working as a bus driver and janitor at the school while also working part-time at the grocery store and her upholstery shop. In 2011 Roberta moved with her daughter, Lisa’s, family to Juniata and later to Grand Island while Lisa went to nursing school. She was active in the United Methodist church in Juniata, working with a quilting group there. They lived in Weeping Water until she was age 3 when they moved to Juniata NE.She attended Head Start in Hastings for 2 years then started kindergarten in 2011. They moved to Grand Island in 2012 and she attended Seedling Mile Elementary and Barr Middle School, then Grand Island High School. She played the violin with the orchestra program until the end of her junior year, which she enjoyed. She was also a student ambassador her junior and senior years. Opal was a fierce and loyal friend to many of her fellow students, known for befriending and championing peers that considered themselves different. She was a proud feminist and believer in the rights of women. She loved all kinds of music and always sang along to whatever was playing. She loved her friends and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. She loved going back to Weeping Water to spend time with cousins. Obituary Preview: Edward “Eddie” Staack, 59, of Weeping Water, Nebraska, passed away on October 15, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska. His final days were spent with his family at his side as he ended his fight with strength and dignity. He was born in Syracuse, Nebraska on July 14, 1964 to Clarence “Bud” and Mary Ann (Pechar) Staack. Eddie was raised in Manley, Nebraska with his six siblings. He attended Manley School and was a member of the last graduating 8th grade class from District 96. Eddie was a Manley kid and enjoyed playing football, ice hockey, and any outside game with the kids in town. He attending high school at Weeping Water and wrestled. After high school Ed worked as a laborer, brick layer, and handyman. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, helping others out and lending a hand at the Legion Club. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several uncles and aunts. He is survived by his six siblings: Michael Staack (Maria Curro), Joseph (Karen) Staack, Daniel Staack (Deborah Heffernan), Barb (Kyle) Finke, Linda (Jay) Twomey, Brenda (Bruce) Lawson. Nephews: Brent (Lindsay) Staack, Jackson Twomey and Garrett Finke. Nieces: Brittany (Joel) Wiley, Megan (Matt) Wollum, Bailey Lawson, Taylor Finke, Brianna Lawson, Jenna and Jamison Twomey along with seven great nephews and nieces. He will be remembered for his humor and his ability to be friends and laugh with anyone and his willingness to help others in times of need. He touched the lives of many people and will truly be missed and will never be forgotten. Services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Weeping Water on October 20, 2023 at 11AM. On July 3, 1974 she married Gene Barkhurst of Weeping Water NE. they made their home in Avoca NE where they lived their whole life together. On October 17, 1978 a son Corey was born then on February 8, 1983 Daughter Jennifer joined the family. While the kids were young she liked to bake and decorated cake for special occasions. She also enjoyed her alone time reading and spending time with her mother Alene. She gave all her family all she could to make them happy and secure. Finally blessed with a daughter-in-law who gave the family two of the best and ornery grandsons Chase and Carter, she enjoyed being with those two as much as possible. Cheryl enjoyed hand stitching quilts-knitting and crochet, as well as travel especially to Colorado and had her sights on the Black Hills, Montana and Yellowstone in retirement.With a few years of ailments and doctor visits she was diagnosed wit NA Fatty Liver Disease and heart issues in December of 2022. In September with hopes of a heart valve replacement and liver transplant she entered UNMC September 22 and bravely battled her illness until her liver wasn't functioning properly and her kidneys failed her. Doctors did all they could but could not give her a liver because of her weakness, they were afraid they would do more damage than good, so they continued to keep her comfortable to the end.Cheryl led a simple life not wanting much and giving back to others. She was preceded in death by her father Roland and her mother Alene. Obituary Preview: Walter E Saxton, 94 yrs old, passed away peacefully at his home in Harlingen TX on August 17, 2023 with Kenneth Werning and Juana Torres by his side.Walter had resided in Weeping Water Nebraska prior to moving to TX, where he and his wife, Barbara, raised 3 children and was active in his church, as a 4-H leader and school bus driver for many years. He never met a stranger, enjoyed meeting new people, was known for his willingness to help others, for his bluntness and quick wit.During Walt's declining health, he cherished the visits and calls from friends, especially the calls from his family. He talked often with son Bill, daughter Chris, their children and granddaughter Jackie and her family. Hearing about what they were doing and the updates on his great grandchildren made his day. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Seay, Virginia, sister Mary Jo Yates, Nebraska, numerous nephews and niece not to mention those he became very close to while living in TX that he considered his TX family, the closest being Juana Torres who he called his TX daughter.As per Walt's wishes, he was cremated. At a later date there will be a Celebration of Life in TX and a private family interment of his ashes in NE.
Walter E Saxton, 94 yrs old, passed away peacefully at his home in Harlingen TX on August 17, 2023 with Kenneth Werning and Juana Torres by his side.
Walter had resided in Weeping Water Nebraska prior to moving to TX, where he and his wife, Barbara, raised 3 children and was active in his church, as a 4-H leader and school bus driver for many years. He never met a stranger, enjoyed meeting new people, was known for his willingness to help others, for his bluntness and quick wit.
During Walt's declining health, he cherished the visits and calls from friends, especially the calls from his family. He talked often with son Bill, daughter Chris, their children and granddaughter Jackie and her family. Hearing about what they were doing and the updates on his great grandchildren made his day.
