Anthony C. Zangardi - December 23, 1930 - May 14, 2021

Departed: 05/14/2021 (Scranton)
Obituary Preview: Anthony Zangardi, 90 died on Friday, May 14 at Allied Services Hospice Center, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Lynn, MA on December 23, 1930, he was a remarkably humble man who loved God, family, cooking, extreme couponing, horse racing, and a good poker game... not necessarily in that order. He was an Army veteran who spent two years honing his cooking skills while stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he had a varied career, including cook at his family's restaurant, The Riviera, carpet installer, salesman, and finally retiring after spending 15 years working at RCA/Thomson Consumer.
It was not in his nature to ask others for help. When he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in November 2019, he was resistant to tell others of his diagnosis as he didn't want anyone to feel sorry for him or even worse (in his opinion), help him. It turned out that his cancer treatments at Geisinger Henry Cancer Center were a source of comradery, support and much needed direct human interaction during this unbelievable year of social distancing.
He was preceded in death by far too many amazing humans, including his parents, Anthony and Anna (nee Rogers), siblings Josephine Lamonica (Anthony), Leonard (Mary), Stephen (Amelia), James (Rachel), John (Carol), and his wife of 42 years, Helen (nee Kemetz).
He was the loving father of Joseph (Paula) and Karen Troni. Cherished grandfather/poppy/pops of Nicole (Josh), Mike (Karissa), Billy (Marissa), Julia, Mark, Luke and Anna. In true Italian Catholic spirit, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, services were private. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Allied Services Hospice, 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA, 18411 or Geisinger Henry Cancer Center 1000 E Mountain Dr, Wilkes-Barre, PA
Arrangements are under the care of the Guido-Fiorillo Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave. Scranton.
