Richard Adolf Holl - March 19, 1933 - March 20, 2022

Departed: 03/20/2022 (Oxnard)
Obituary Preview: Geboren am 19. März 1933 in Bronnerlehe.
Richard Holl was born on March 19th 1933 in Bronnerlehe, Germany. He spent the first years of his life at the house of his grandparents who were the owners of a mechanical weaving mill. As a small child he spent a lot of time at the mill in the weaving room with the workers. They adored him.
At the age of 6, he moved with his family to the town of Kirchheim/Schwaben, very close to his birthplace. Later, at the age of 10 he was admitted to a boarding school in Kemten/Allgäu.
At the end of WWII, he continued his education and eventually went to the Technical Universtiy in Munich where he completed his degree as a Civil Egineer.
As a civil engineer, he worked for different Companies in Germany. At this time he also married Ingrid Gerhard and had two children.
He received an offer to take a position in Canada to take part in the building of the North Atlantic Highway. This is how he and his family came to North America where he began to develop the first of his many inventions. By the end of his life, Richard Holl would have received more than 20 Patents.
A few years later, he and his family settled in California where he started his own company and continued to work on different inventions. After a few years an opportunity presented itself to move to Saudi Arabia to utilize a number of these inventions. After Saudi Arabia, the next place to land was Vienna, Austria. After which, Richard and Ingrid decided to return to the United States.
Apart from his technical inventions, Richard Holl was a highly creative person who painted and drew a great deal. For his family and friends, Richard was a very charming, generous, sincere, humerous and optimistic person and a real gentleman of the old school.
Richard was also an adventurer who was never afraid to dive into uncharted waters. Professionally the focus of his research was, among others, the innovative reactor technology. He gave lectures at the Anderson School of Business (UCLA) and at the Saudi Arabian King Fahd University.
Richard was not only an engineer and inventor, he was also intensely interested in the Arts. He created many works of art including oil paintings and drawings. His sparkling and mischievous eyes, his interest in people, his open and cosmopolitan way touched everyone.

Diane Ann Liberty - February 14, 1947 - January 03, 2022

Departed: 01/03/2022 (Oxnard)
Obituary Preview: Diane Ann Liberty - b. February 14 1947, d. January 3, 2022
Diane Ann Liberty was born February 14, 1947 in Stamford, CT. She was the daughter of Capt. Harold F. Liberty, U.S.N. (SEABEES) and Margaret C. Pearson, both originally of Brockton, MA.
Because of her Father’s career in the U.S. Navy, Diane grew up “everywhere.” The Liberty family left Stamford, CT and moved to Imperial Beach/Coronado, CA. This is where Diane’s lifelong love for the beach and the ocean began. Bermuda was the next duty station and she attended the original Sandys Grammar School. While there, her aunt gave the Liberty family their first purebred Springer Spaniel and that began her lifelong love for the breed.
The family moved to Fairfax, VA, Point Dume in Malibu, CA, N.A.S. Jacksonville, FL, and Philadelphia where Diane graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls. Diane attended the perfect university to “study beaches,” the Univ. of Hawaii in Manoa. Her final residence associated with her father’s Navy career was Charlestown, MA.
In 1967 Diane moved to the Maryland suburbs to work as an Executive Secretary for the American Bankers Assoc. in Washington, D.C. She wound up meeting her Best Friend Forever when she joined Geri Casteel’s carpool. Geri’s family embraced Diane as one of their own.
In the early 1970s Diane moved to Ventura, CA to be near her parents with whom she was always close. She worked in management for the Ojai Valley Inn, at Falcon Plastics, and briefly owned a kite store named Go Fly A Kite located in The Courtyard on Main St. in Ventura.
Diane was small in stature at 4 ft. 11-in., had a twinkle in her eye, and filled the room with her incandescent personality and laughter. She was also fierce, determined, stubborn, and immovable.
An excellent cook, Diane was known for her tasty curry and her “Drunkin Pumpkin Pies'' that she made for Thanksgiving, her absolute favorite holiday. She loved Valentine’s Day because it made her own birthday all that more special. At Christmastime she gave meaningful tree ornaments to those she loved. Diane sang silly songs by Stanley Holloway and other great singers from Sinatra to Billy Joel. Diane’s favorite flower was the Tuberose because of its opulent scent.
As a kid, Diane learned how to mix martinis that were served at her parent’s parties. Every person who drank one will tell you that they packed a wallop. Her personal cocktail stirrer was the tip of her finger that had been bitten off by a car fan belt.
Diane was kind, generous, compassionate, and empathetic. Throughout her life she was a caregiver to many people who found themselves in difficult circumstances. Because of her open heartedness, there were times when these virtues were terribly exploited by those to whom she had lent a helping hand.
A breast cancer survivor, Diane had recently been treated for lung cancer. She was a lifelong smoker and accepted the risks that came with that including losing her teeth. Diane also experienced the normal frailties that come with age. In the 1980s, Diane realized her dream of living practically on the beach when she moved to the Hollywood Beach Seaside neighborhood in Oxnard, CA where she resided for the next 40 years. Diane said, “They say that you are never too old to live happily ever after! I live a block from Hollywood Beach and Channel Islands Harbor. Charter member of the Sitting, Staring and Rocking Club.”
Diane A. Liberty died at home in the early morning hours on January 3, 2022. Diane’s ashes will be scattered in the Pacific at a future date.
Diane never married and is survived by her two brothers, Jean C. Liberty and his wife Sandra Kollender of Crossville, TN; Dennis Liberty and his wife Mary Lou “Lou” Suddath of Los Ranchos, NM; her nieces Merlyn F. Liberty of Belmont, MA and Nicole W. Liberty and husband Tom Hollomon of Lacey, WA; her nephew Shawn C. Liberty and wife Michelle Lapworth of Newport Beach, CA; She is also survived by Geri Casteel and Valerie Casteel-Lowe of Bowie, MD, Terry Casteel of Brandywine, MD, and Frank Lowe of Essex, MD; Diane will be remembered by her many, many friends.
Funeral arrangements are difficult to traverse during the best of times. The COVID-19 pandemic made these preparations even more challenging. Diane’s family wish to express their gratitude to the staff at Guardian Memorial Funeral Directors & Crematory and the Mount Holyoke College siblinghood for helping them navigate the steps to care for Diane’s mortal remains. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home's website.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral service details and charitable donation information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise, ranging from 100 to 500 words. The goal is to provide a brief summary of the person's life without overwhelming readers with too much information.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or multiple photos of the deceased. This can help to personalize the obituary and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. You may need to provide the written obituary, payment information, and any required documentation.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that their life story is told accurately and in their own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or platform where the obituary was published. Some may allow edits or corrections, while others may not. It's best to check with the publisher beforehand.

The publication timeframe varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or weeks.

Can I publish an obituary online for free?

Some online platforms offer free obituary publishing services. However, these may come with limitations on word count, photo uploads, or other features. Be sure to review the terms and conditions before submitting your obituary.

How do I share an online obituary with others?

You can share an online obituary through social media platforms, email, or messaging apps. Many online obituary platforms also provide a unique URL or QR code for easy sharing.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, poems, or lyrics that resonate with the deceased's personality or spirit can add a personal touch to the obituary and make it more meaningful for readers.

What is the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and pay tribute to the deceased. It serves as a digital memorial where people can express their sympathy and support.

How long are online guestbooks available?

The duration of an online guestbook varies depending on the platform. Some may keep it active for a few months or years, while others may maintain it permanently.

Can I create a memorial website for my loved one?

Yes! Memorial websites are dedicated spaces where you can share stories, photos, videos, and memories of your loved one. They can serve as a lasting tribute and provide comfort to those grieving.

What is the difference between a funeral notice and an obituary?

A funeral notice typically includes details about the funeral service, such as date, time, location, and officiant. An obituary focuses on celebrating the life of the deceased rather than providing logistical information about the funeral.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes! Including charitable donation information in an obituary allows friends and family to make donations in lieu of flowers or other tributes. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's memory and legacy.

How do I find archived obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain historical records. Some genealogy websites also offer access to archived obituaries for research purposes.

Can I use an obituary as a template for writing my own eulogy?

Absolutely! An obituary can serve as a useful starting point for crafting a eulogy. You can expand on the information provided in the obituary and add personal anecdotes to create a heartfelt tribute.

What is the significance of publishing an obituary in multiple languages?

Publishing an obituary in multiple languages ensures that all family members and friends, regardless of their linguistic background, can read and understand the tribute to their loved one.
