Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Willoughby and Bessie Jane (Boyd) Deel. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was an active member of Grundy Church of Christ. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and was part of a league. Irene worked as a clerk in the Buchanan County General District Court for 42 years until her retirement and took pride in being a caregiver for her mother and brother, Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Sister: Callie Louise Deel; Brothers: Billy Ray Deel, Thomas Patrick Deel and Jackie Deel.
Those left to cherish her memory include Brother: Percy Deel and his wife Evelyn (who was Irene’s special caregiver) of Vansant, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services for IRENE DEEL will be conducted Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Mountain Rest Mausoleum, Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA, with Pastor Mike Rife and Evg. Dennis Wimmer officiating with burial to follow.

She loved to travel, cook, go on adventures, wine connoisseur, and was a mother to all.

Ocie was an avid volunteer in her community, including a lifetime member of the Girl Scout movement where she helped many girls, including her own, achieve their goals and was an active member of the Friends of the Library. She was a dog lover and had many 4-legged friends over the years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Son-in-Law: Richard Glenn Arvin.

Ruth Marie Muncy - June 25, 1930 - April 23, 2024

Obituary Preview: RUTH MARIE JACKSON MUNCY, age 93 of Grundy, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, at Buchanan General Hospital.
She was born on June 25, 1930, in Drill, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Alex and Ethel Boyd Jackson.
After completing her business training at Bluefield Business School, she moved to Grundy where she worked at Buchanan Williamson Supply until she met and married VA State Trooper Minor Muncy Jr. and started raising their family. When she returned to work, her career included Tri-/County Independent Coal Operators, Town of Grundy, Buchanan County Department of Social Services and partner at Levisa Fuel Company.
Ruth was a dedicated Christian and a member of Buchanan First Presbyterian Church where she served as the first female Elder. She served on several church committees and was active with the various roles of the Women of the Church. The church has honored Mabel Hurst and Ruth by creating the Ruth and Mable Ministry where food is sent to those in need.
After retirement, she volunteered her skills and leadership to GFWC Women's Club, Eastern Star, American Red Cross, Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens, Red Hat Society, and Friends of the Library. She also enjoyed traveling, quilting, crocheting, cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family. To her family and friends, she will always remain a generous kind-hearted woman with a quick laugh and “can do” spirit.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her children Patricia Muncy and husband Mark Weitner, of Houston TX, Denise Hale and husband Mack Hale of Richlands, VA, and Minor Muncy III and wife Betty Muncy of Saluda, VA.
She was also survived by grandchildren Tonya Hale Lawrence and William “Will” Hale; great-grandchildren Samantha Lawrence, Dylan Lawrence, Lexi Lawrence, Max Hale, Hannah, Madalynn, and Clayton Koehler; siblings Peggy Jackson Starnes and Carl Jackson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Minor Muncy Jr., her brother, Ralph Jackson, and sister-in-law, Judy Jackson.
The family would like to extend gratitude to her devoted, loving caregivers, Pat Shepherd, Wanda Crochet, Diane Robinson, Diane McCoy, Mary Ratliff, and Crystal Blackburn. They would also like to remember Lou Spence and Barbara Hensley for the loving care they provided for their mom. They also would like to thank Dr. H. Patel and his staff, and ICU at Buchanan General Hospital for the care they gave to their mom.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a wonderful friend. “Big Lou” was a coal truck driver for several years and a proud member of Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17 AF&AM of Grundy, VA.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his cousin, Charles Anthony Ramey (January 18, 2021).

Previously, she was a dietary manager at Friendship Manor in Roanoke, VA, for 20 years. She enjoyed her work, co-workers and the residents immensely. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, watching T.V., and most of all, spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1-Granddaughter: Rebecca Breanne Looney; and twin great-grandsons.

Along with her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Dotson, two daughters, Wanda Dotson and Remona Sargent, who now rests with Betty’s son-in-law, Randall “Randy” Sargent, grandson, Marvin Alex Dotson, and two brothers, James Hurley and Cecil Hurley.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and was a disabled coal miner. He loved being outside, riding his four-wheeler, and playing his banjo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4-brothers: James Justice, Ival Justice Jr., Charles Justice, Lonnie Justice.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 42 years Melva Jean (Rice) Justice, Maxie, VA; 1-son: Thomas Ray Justice, Maxie, VA; 2-brothres: Larry Justice, Maxie, VA, Alvis Justice; 3-special nieces: Alexis Rice, Alyssa Stump, Amia Stump; 2-special nephews: Jason Stump, Nelson Drummond; 3-brother-in-laws: Buddy ( Missy) Rice, Leon (Evelyn) Looney, Edward (Flornie) Hager.
Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.
