Lois B Isles - January 17, 1930 - April 01, 2024

Departed: 04/01/2024 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Schenectady
Lois B. Isles, nee Van Deusen, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024. She was 94 years old. In her lifetime, she was a dutiful daughter, a supportive sister, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and the wife, soulmate and true love of her husband, Bill. Married for 69 years, her love was steadfast and true, and she missed him every day of the last 4 years she lived without him.
Lois was born in Corinth, New York, in January 1930. She moved to Schenectady at 13 and graduated with honors from Mont Pleasant High School in 1947. She worked for a short time for General Electric Company, leaving the workplace in 1952 when her first child was born. She was the heart of her family, ever present and dedicated to creating a loving home. Lois was a devoted mother, showering her children with unconditional love and support, and the very epitome of a loving grandmother, the title she treasured the most. There were no limits to her sympathetic ear or the loving hugs she offered. She lived by the Golden Rule to treat others the same way you want them to treat you, so she was a true, loyal friend to many.
Lois believed in volunteerism, charity, and helping those in need. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 75 years and gave her time selflessly, singing in the choir, working in Babyfold, chairing the Sunday coffee hour, and counting the collections each Monday for years and years. Lois was an avid reader her entire life, so she was a supporter and member of The Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library working on newsletter distributions and the annual book sales. In 1964 the Isles family moved to West Hill and Lois actively participated in the special community there. She loved her home, her gardens, the birds that flocked to her feeders, and her many neighbors and friends, and she never left for the rest of her life, dying at home with her daughter by her side, as was her last wish.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Debra Bradt (Timothy); her grandson, Joshua Bradt, Ph.D., of Boston; and her son, William A. Isles, Jr. (Michelle) of Florida, along with two nieces and three nephews and their respective families. She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Cora Van Deusen; her beloved husband, William A. Isles; her first-born daughter, Cheryl Isles, Ph.D.; her sister and brother-in-law, Cora and James Kenneth Cromme; and many, many much-loved friends and family members.
Lois loved to meet for lunch, and she loved to have friends and family over for dinner. She made casseroles, cookies and brownies for anyone in need, for church events, to welcome a family to the neighborhood, or just because; so although the columbarium inurnment at First United Methodist Church will be private, family and friends are invited to a luncheon celebration of Lois’s life on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12:15 p.m. at The Glen Sanders Mansion, 1 Glen Avenue, Scotia, New York. Please come casual, and in honor of her favorite color, the color of the day will be purple.
All who knew Lois will remember that she loved flowers, but in lieu of flowers, her family hopes that others will join them and consider a contribution in her honor to the First United Methodist Church, 603 State Street, Schenectady, 12305.

Marguerite V. Broady - December 26, 1926 - February 29, 2024

Departed: 02/29/2024 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Marguerite V. “Peg” Broady
Niskayuna - Marguerite V. “Peg” Broady, 97, died peacefully on Thursday, February 29th at Daughters of Sarah Community for Seniors in Albany.
Peg was born Violette Marguerite LaPerriere on December 26, 1926, along with her twin, Therese Melda Dufour, to Arthur J. LaPerriere and Eliza (Souliere) LaPerriere, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. On April 17, 1948, she married the first love of her life, Eugene Paul “Red” Bouchard. In 1952, with their first child in tow, the couple relocated to the Albany area where Red worked at Judge Neon Sign Company in Albany, NY. Peg and Red went on to have five more children eventually settling in Niskayuna where Peg lived for over fifty years.
Peg worked as a cook in restaurants in Colonie but after Red’s passing in 1970, she took a job as a cafeteria cook at Niskayuna High School where she met the second love of her life, Arthur Broady. They were married on September 23, 1977. Arthur died in 2004, after 27 happy years together.
Frequently, Peg was referred to as “the energizer bunny” because she was hard to keep down. When she wasn’t cooking, gardening, watching her favorite TV shows or spending time with family, she was most often bowling or golfing. Her second husband was an avid golfer, so she decided to pick up the clubs and learn. She golfed regularly with the Colonie Elks Ladies Auxiliary Golf League and the Mohawk River Ladies Golf League until 2020. In 2019, at the age of 93 she traveled to North Carolina to play golf with her nephew Pierre and his wife, Susan.
During the winter, she bowled with the Clifton Park Morning Bowling League. A highlight of Peg’s life was teaming up with her grandson, B.J. Rucinski, for a televised bowling competition on Capital Region Bowling in 2013. At 87, she was the oldest bowler to compete on the program at that time. Over the years, she received many recognitions, awards, and trophies for her athletic achievements.
Peg had an infectious sense of humor and a generous lively spirit. She was always ready to help whenever and wherever she could. In her younger days, if she baked four loaves of bread, one was for the family and three went to the neighbors. Well into her 80's she was driving friends to their appointments or helping with their errands because they were unable to drive. Peg had countless friends, was loved by all, and will be sorely missed.
The story of Peg’s life would be incomplete without mentioning her love and devotion to cats. Throughout her life, she always had kitty companions. She had contributed greatly to help and care for cats whenever possible. She is leaving behind her beautiful Buddy, who was a consistent comfort to her, especially in recent weeks when her health was failing.
Peg is survived by her twin sister, Therese M. Dufour of Schenectady, her five daughters – Diane M. Bouchard, Denise E. Rucinski (William), Suzanne M. Bourdon, all of Schenectady, Lisa A. Giruzzi (William) of Albany, NY, Dorothy J. Szypulski (Theodore) of Louisburg, North Carolina, and one son, Maurice E. Bouchard (Kim) of Westford, NY. In addition, she is survived by her stepdaughters, Elaine Speth (James) of Schenectady and Cecilia Broady (Rick Lavigne) of Delanson, as well as ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by all her siblings except her twin, and by two granddaughters, Jeanne Marie Savage, Karen Lynn Szypulski, and her great granddaughter, Gabriella Rucinski-Naftalis.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday March 4, 2024 from 4 until 6p.m. at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. A Time of Reflection and Remembrance will follow at 6p.m. at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Upon his return to New York, Mike continued his education at SUNY Albany’s Graduate School of Public Affairs, and received a Master’s in Public Administration in 1967.
Mike began his career with the New York State Division of the Budget later that year, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. During his tenure, he served in increasingly valuable capacities, including Financial Analyst, Economist and Principal Budget Examiner. While he was recognized for his expertise in New York City finances and accordingly appointed to the NYC Financial Control Board, he particularly loved writing speeches for then Governor Mario Cuomo. Upon his retirement, Mike was commended for his considerable contributions to NYS and NYC government, banking and finance, and public administration. Mike and his beloved wife Gail were married for over 56 years. Together they enjoyed countless wonderful years with many good friends at the Woodlin Club, golf and tennis vacations in Hilton Head, SC with Lou and Teresa and Don and Carol, enjoyed hosting summer BBQs, and, of course, everyone loved their annual Christmas Eve party. In recent years, Mike and Gail looked forward to their standing dinners out with Dick and Eunice, and Saturday coffee visits with Tom. One might refer to Mike as a “competitive” lottery player, a Dunkin’ coffee enthusiast, a savant when it came to college sports team monikers, and most certainly an avid reader - his ability to consume books and newspapers was unmatched. Almost equally important was his unwavering dedication to the Buffalo Bills and the Villanova men’s basketball team. Go Bills!
In addition to his hobbies, Mike gave generously of his time, serving as Treasurer and Board member of the Niskayuna Co-Op for many years. Until his death, Mike also served as a Board member of The Bethesda House, and was a Friend of Bill, causes that were particularly close to his heart. Without question, and without seeking recognition, Mike was incredibly compassionate and giving; willing to help unconditionally, believing in offering the opportunity for new beginnings to those in need.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gail Diffley, daughters Tracy (Jeffrey) Gaylord of Troy, NY, and Patricia Gibbons of Sacketts Harbor, NY, sister Kay Diffley of Buffalo, NY, and several cousins. “Papa Mike” is also survived by his five adoring grandchildren, Catherine, Meredith and Henry Gaylord, and Veronica and Natalie Gibbons.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 11 from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Griswold Funeral Home at 1867 State Street, Schenectady, NY. Funeral services will immediately follow calling hours at 1pm, also at Griswold Funeral Home.
Committal services will be held on Friday, January 12 at 11:30am at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.

Carol June Mohrmann - November 21, 1933 - October 17, 2023

Departed: 10/17/2023 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Carol June Mohrmann (89) of Duanesburg, NY passed peacefully on October 17, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Schenectady, NY to Edmond E Sanders and Alice Sanders (nee Bushel), Carol lived life with unmatched positivity and a passion for literature, gardening, animals, and her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Unique from the beginning, Carol collected sterling silver and loved Classical music from a young age. She inherited a little fire from her mother and a lot of ingenuity from her father. What young Carol lacked in material goods, she made up for in personality and creativity. She could often be found leading the neighborhood children on escapades of her own creation, irrespective of the social expectations for little girls. One of her favorite activities was to gather her friends and insist that they sit through her intricately designed school lessons, objections not-withstanding. “Leadership qualities” were the polite compliments offered by the adults she encountered and she would put those leadership skills to good use in the coming years.
As a teenager, Carol tried her hand at aviation as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol, joined the Daughters of FreeMasons, and was crowned a “Beloved Queen” of the Daughters of Eastern Star. Drawing on a love of the outdoors instilled by her father, skiing was a favorite pastime and she enjoyed camping on Lake Champlain with her family. For a period of time during her teenage years, she hoped to one day be an actress. This love of theatre would be one of the driving forces behind her pursuit of an Education degree and her eventual position as a longtime teacher in Schenectady City Schools.
In 1958, Carol graduated from SUNY Albany with her Masters in Education. This degree would be the beginning of a passionate and deeply loved career in teaching. For 42 years, Carol taught Middle School Social Studies and English in Schenectady City Schools. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless students and was recognized as Teacher of the Year, in 1998, for her outstanding contributions to the field of education within the Schenectady City School District. That same year, Carol was recognized by the state when she was a runner up for the NYS English Teacher of the Year Award. She was a leader in curriculum development in the district and was the director of numerous musicals. Even in retirement, Carol would return to help direct “The Music Man” at Schenectady High School in 2001. Her years as a teacher gained Carol a large, extended circle of chosen family. Students and colleagues alike stayed in touch with Carol until her last days. Whether writing letters to those needing to feel seen, scheduling regular lunch dates with former colleagues, or making sure those in need of care and love received it, Carol was a strong force in the life of every chosen family member who loved her.
On August 23rd, 1959, Carol married Robert Mohrmann, a charismatic piano player she met through her brother, Eddie. Carol’s favorite song he played for her was “Kitten on the Keys” and she would often listen to him play at parties. Robert proposed to her in a movie theatre while watching “The Pajama Game” and they would marry once Carol completed her degree. They welcomed three children - Robert, Richard, and Rachel- all of whom received the same middle name and whose childhood crafts can now not be attributed to each little artist due to the same initials on every masterpiece.
The love Carol had for each of her children shined through in the attributes she gifted them. Bobby’s sharp intellect and generous spirit, Richie’s spirituality and creativity, and Shelly’s love of music and willingness to help others are all gifts inherited from Carol. Throughout their childhood, Carol consistently worked overtime to ensure they had what they needed and always landed in their camp, no matter what laboratories they were caught blowing up or which computers they successfully hacked. Carol often talked about the pride she felt in her children’s accomplishments and childhood escapades and often retold the story of a very young Shelly walking herself home from school in protest, mimicking the union stance Carol took and modeled for her children.
Carol’s love for her 3 children extended easily to her grandchildren. For 26 years, “Gaga” as she was affectionately nicknamed by her eldest granddaughter, Summer- doted on them all. When her first granddaughter was born, Gaga snuck into a NYC hospital to meet her, determined not to let some trivial rules stand in her way. This simple act of defiance and intense excitement would foreshadow the ways in which she would cultivate her relationships with all of her grandchildren. Whether stocking their closets beyond capacity with new clothes, driving them to every activity they desired, filling entire rooms with Christmas gifts, attending all the performances, listening to all the charmingly inaccurate piano pieces, ignoring their every flaw, or simply staring at them with the intense pride only Gaga could exude, Gaga’s biggest love was her grandchildren. Her love extended beyond her biological grandchildren to every child who called her Gaga. She drove to NYC to meet new babies, cleaned the rooms of children unrelated by blood, and stared at them all with the same love she had for Jimmy, Samantha, Summer, Madeline, Victoria, Abi and Connor.
Exemplifying her faith and commitment to God, Carol never failed to show up in her larger community as a caretaker and role model. Her journey toward spiritual enlightenment was a central part of her life, and she shared this passion with those around her. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady, singing in the choir, serving as custodian, recording as church historian, serving tables at the roast beef dinners, and organizing their regular rummage sales. Caring deeply for community members in need, she also volunteered for Home Furnishings in Schenectady and always had a few dollars to spare for fundraisers and cups of lemonade brought to her by the many children in her life.
Carol’s friends and family will remember her as a fiercely positive force in the world, with an unmatched power to see the good in everyone. There is no doubt that Carol fulfilled every dream her parents had for her and that she passed their wildest dreams on to her children and grandchildren. She was a determined problem solver who approached challenges with a can-do attitude and a spirit of perseverance. Above all, Carol was known for her selflessness. She consistently put the needs of others ahead of her own, offering her support, guidance, and unwavering love to her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and empathy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
