Robert Lester Gray - December 14, 1937 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (Jewett City)
Obituary Preview: Robert L. Gray, 86, of Canterbury, died March 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of the late Barbara (Senerchia) Gray. Born in Lisbon, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Calvin and Orpha (Church) Gray.
Bob worked as a carpenter for many years and established Gray Brothers Builders in 1981 along with his beloved brother and best friend Kenny. The two worked side-by-side until their retirement. Bob was also a proud Marine. Bob’s best role was being “Papa” to his 7 grandchildren.
Bob could often be found outdoors raking leaves, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, cutting brush, and climbing roof tops even as he aged and his children pleaded with him to stop. He was stubborn, strong, and relentless until his final days.
A lifelong fan of racing, he looked forward to his yearly trips with his family to London, New Hampshire, and to Stafford Motor Speedway with his son, Rob. He loved the Boston Red Sox through all the good and the bad. He enjoyed a competitive game of Scrabble, and building puzzles for hours. Much to everyone's surprise as he was never a cat fan, he loved his cat "Pesky", who never left his side. He was an avid UConn basketball fan and enjoyed attending games with his brother-in-law Carlton Lindell, his morning coffees and conversations with his sister-in-law Carol Gray, and his breakfast dates with his brother-in-law Louis Senerchia, and sister-in-laws Cynthia Senerchia and Lorraine Silva. These seemingly small interactions were huge and kept Bob going these last few years.
Often the quiet one, never saying much, Bob will be remembered for his witty, dry humor and the delivery of his famous one-liners that were always perfectly timed.
Bob is survived by children, Robert (Ramona) Gray, Jr.; Lyn (Duane) Henderson, and Melissa (Joseph) Gil, and grandchildren, Nathan (Taylor Toper) Gray-Gil, Matthew Gil, Neely Henderson, Megan Henderson, Katie Henderson, Maxwell Gray, and Samuel Gray.
Bob was like a second father to many of his nephews, nieces, and his children’s friends, all of which he loved dearly. Special thanks to his niece Bonnie Tessier, who was like a daughter to him, and without hesitation flew to be by his side and assist his children during his final weeks.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings Calvin Gray, Jr., Richard Gray, Janet Lindell, Priscilla Bibeau, and Kennth Gray, and his brother-in-laws, Valentino Silva and Arnold “Sonny” Senerchia.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Robert’s family from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Griswold Funeral Home & Crematory, 30 North Main Street, Jewett City, CT. A graveside service will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in Ames Cemetery, Route 169, Lisbon, Connecticut.
Memorial donations may be made to The Tomorrow Fund, providing financial and emotional assistance to families impacted by childhood cancers in memory of his very special goddaughter Alexandra Powers who predeceased him. Raymond DeGray - April 03, 1939 - March 03, 2024

Departed: 03/03/2024 (Jewett City)
Obituary Preview: On the afternoon of Sunday March 3, 2024 Ray DeGray peacefully passed away surrounded by many of his loved ones.
Ray went to Griswold High school as a young man. He played high school baseball till quitting to start work at the nursery in Canterbury. After graduation he went on to work at Ed’s Garage before landing his “forever job” at UPS as a delivery driver. He became a staple in the Willimantic community for his work and dedication to building close bonds and friendships with his customers for over thirty years.
Ray was an incredible man, meeting his beloved wife Elsie at a dance when he was twenty-two years old. Little did he know that this lady would be his loving wife for the next sixty-two years.
In 1963, Ray and Elsie became first time parents. From their first baby they went on to have three more amazing loving children. He was a great father to his four children. He worked hard to show up and provide for them, whether it was hockey, basketball, baseball, field hockey or eating at Bonanzas.
In 1985 he embarked on his next great chapter, becoming a grandfather. From 1985- 2007 they were blessed with seven total grandchildren. As a grandpa, he was also there for everything. Sporting events, dance recitals, gymnastic meets, many summer vacations, Disney World and his absolute favorite, camping in Bar Harbor. One of his fondest memories was attending three of his grandchildren's weddings, including walking his oldest grand daughter down the aisle.
Through the years Ray and Elsie traveled to so many places, he loved to travel. He visited places like Niagara Falls, Pennsylvania, taking the occasional cruise and his absolute favorite, Bar Harbor, Maine. When Ray retired he went on to travel the world with Elsie. Together, they visited Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Disney and many more locations with many of his family members.
Ray was the ultimate Yankee fan, in his later years he would spend many hours watching Yankeeography and the old games on TV. He loved to talk baseball with any one who would listen. He also loved to tell jokes. Some clean, some dirty, and some that would be a mix of both.
Lastly, Ray loved to eat, he loved to eat at his children's homes, his grand children's homes, and anywhere anyone would suggest. A great memory for many would be, when asked what the best part of his trip was, he would tell you where he ate.
Ray loved his family, he loved trips, and perhaps most of all, he loved good food and rooting for his beloved Yankees. He will be extremely missed.
In addition to his wife Elsie DeGray of 62 years, Ray is survived by his daughter Connie DeGray and her wife Robin, son Roger DeGray and his wife Kristin, his daughter Donna Bartolomei and her husband Jim, and daughter Pam Dominic; his siblings George DeGray and Janice Kraus. Ray also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Laura Laidley and her husband Larry, Justin Loura and his wife Jenn, Kayla Simpson and her husband Steve, Will Dominic, Jak Dominic, Smith DeGray and Perry DeGray, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. “Furry Grands” include Pedey, Sammi, Gus and Louie. “Furry Great-Grands” are Kaylee, Odi and Jelly.
Ray is predeceased by his parents, John and Evelyn (Forte) DeGray; his siblings Elenore, Irma, Frances, Bobby, John, Richie, Walter & Audrey and his nephew Angelo who was like a brother.
