JoAnne Marie Turman - December 29, 1955 - July 31, 2022

Departed: 07/31/2022 (Bakerfield)
Obituary Preview: On July 31, 2022, our sweet JoAnne Turman went to be with her Lord and Savior. He called her home after 4 long years of battling cancer. She graduated from Angel on earth to Angel in Heaven while being surrounded by her 3 children, and beloved husband, in the comfort of her home, where she spent years creating a warmth that can never be forgotten. To know her, was to love her and be loved by her, and there will forever be a void in our hearts. JoAnne Marie Koelzer was born on December 29, 1955 in Van Nuys, California. Her parents, Carrol and Patricia Koelzer were blessed with the ultimate gift of becoming parents, and the Lord chose JoAnne to be just that gift. She grew up with a large family, one brother, Mark, and tons of cousins, Aunts and Uncles. She had fond memories of big family gatherings, but her favorite moments were the ones spent with her Nana, where she would escape into her imagination with paper dolls, lilac art, and her Dompa’s big leather chair. She met her highschool sweetheart, Jeff Turman, in the quad at North High School through mutual friends. After dating for 3 years, they married on July 19, 1975. Fast forward 47 years, the two built a life together that was an inspiring recipe made up of love, strength, perseverance, faith and hope. A recipe that not only allowed them to set a beautiful example to their kids, but also one that allowed them to live out their vows to her very last breath. While JoAnne loved many things, her children and grandbabies were at the top of her list. JoAnne was the mom of all moms- gentle, kind hearted, compassionate and loyal. She was playful, always present, made countless sacrifices, and never complained. She was always in the background, cheering her babies on, whether it be football, cheerleading, gymnastics, volleyball, or softball. She never asked for a thing in return, and was the perfect example of unconditional love. Her favorite memories were anywhere her kids and grandkids were, and the joy they brought her could never be measured. Her children were her lifeline, and becoming a grandma (AKA Magga) turned into her proudest name to be called. She loved her grandbabies more than life itself, and would do all that she could to show them love, whether it be through sweet treats, random gifts, sweet notes, prayers, or the most precious hugs. The Lord knew we all needed a Magga. If she wasn’t doing something for her family, she was certainly doing something for others. She would send out “thinking of you cards,” random flowers to those who needed a little brightness to their day, or run around town grabbing little trinkets to give to others. She created a home that was warm, lived in, and welcoming. She always had a pantry full of snacks and goodies, and went above and beyond to be sure no one went without. She loved all who came into contact with her, and radiated a warmth and love that will never be forgotten. She fought tooth and nail for fairness and kindness, and did so with a strong faith that has inspired many. She was the perfect example of a quiet and graceful strength, and she maintained an everlasting faith till her last moments. Through all of the ups and downs, she remained steadfast in her faith and family, and set the standard on how to trust the Lord with all of our hearts, without wavering. Living without our Magga, mom, wife, and best friend is living without a big piece of our hearts, but we are confident, without a shadow of a doubt, where she is and that we will see her again in Heaven.JoAnne Marie Turman is survived by her beloved husband, Jeff Turman, her 3 children and their spouses (Mike Turman, Kara Reynolds (Scott), and Megan Machado (Ronnie), her 8 grandbabies (Reese Turman, Braden Turman, Kyleigh Reynolds, Bodin Reynolds, Kennedy Reynolds, Ronnie Machado III, Cannon Machado, and Evan Machado) her brother, Mark Koelzer, and her mother-in-law, Norma Turman. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrol and Patricia Koelzer, and her father-in-law, Jack Turman. Our family would like to thank all of the amazing people who God put into JoAnne's life who helped care for her. Dr. William Baker has been the family physician for many, many years. “Dr. Bill” was always there whenever he was called upon. He was a great doctor and an even better friend. We also would like to thank all of the caring and compassionate nurses at the AIS Cancer Center. They were led by Dr. Ricardo Salas, whose tenderness and loving care made JoAnne feel safe while in his presence. At Cedars Sinai, Dr. Edwin Posadas was JoAnne's primary Oncologist. This man was by her side every step of the way during her 4 year battle. The bond that was developed was one of strength, compassion and loving care. We want him to know that we will forever be grateful that he was on this journey with her. Also, the kind people at Agape In Home Care were so helpful, and the caring team at Hoffman Hospice provided JoAnne the loving care when needed most. All those who played a part in her care were true heroes in her 4 year battle, and no words can adequately express our appreciation for what they did for our JoAnne. Our family would like to invite all who were touched by this amazing woman to her service which will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Saturday, August 13th @ 1:00pm. There will be a private graveside for family only at a later time. We will all be forever thankful for her courage and strength that she displayed, and her very last words that we vow to live by were “be kind to each other and enjoy every day.” “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Helen Dickard - October 11, 1928 - April 07, 2022

Departed: 04/07/2022 (Bakerfield)
Obituary Preview: Grandma ObituaryOn Thursday, April 7, 2022, Helen Dickard peacefully passed away at the age of 93.Helen was born on October 11, 1928 in Lequire, Oklahoma to Henry and Telia Moore. She was the seventh child of eight children in her family. The family migrated to California during the Dust Bowl and ended up in Wasco to work at a dairy farm. It was there she met her future husband, on a blind date. On April 10, 1944, at the age of 16 she married Richard Dickard in Wasco, CA. They raised one son, Richard Dickard II. During their early years of marriage, they lived in Oakland, CA where Dick was a welder on ships during WWII, and Helen delivered packages for the parcel post. After the war they moved to Bakersfield, CA where they worked as husband and wife with their son Rick at City Body Works. The small family business was successful for more than 60 years before closing its doors in 2017.Helen loved to travel with her family. She loved everyone gathered together, whether it was on a beach in Hawaii, an RV road trip, or around the table for a home cooked meal. She was an amazing cook who was known for using too much cream and butter. She made the best cup of coffee and would sneak it to her grandchildren in the mornings. She had tremendous faith in God and could never make it through a prayer without crying, which would make the grandkids giggle. She loved her pink Cadillac and her toy poodles. She never missed an episode of the soap opera Days of Our Lives during lunch break at the office while eating McDonalds. She still denied ever eating fast food. Her spirit is carried on by her son Richard Dickard II and his wife Sammye Dickard, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith. – Billy GrahamGraveside services will be held April 21, 2022 at 2pm. Greenlawn Funeral Home Northeast, 3700 River Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93305.
