Obituary Preview: 73, of Algonac, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
He was born in Logan, West Virginia on May 4, 1948, son of the late John and Cora Lee (Rockel) Grabowski.
John married Mary Margaret Van De Steene on July 13, 1968, in Mt. Clemens.
John was a Deacon at Northside Church in Chesterfield. He was a member of the Model T Club, the Algonac Historical Society, the Algonac Theatre Group, and the Clock and Watch Association. He was Mr. Fix It and there was nothing he couldn't fix. He enjoyed his morning coffee at Speedway and shopping at home improvement stores.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Mary of 53 years are his two daughters, Angela (David) Smith and Heather Roy; three grandchildren, Olivia Smith, Chloe Smith, and Dale Roy; siblings, Julie (Dennis) Frescura, Lynn (David) Acuff, and Ed (Wendy) Grabowski; sisters-in-law, Carol (Melvin) Schoenherr and Terri (Jim) Sell; brother-in-law, Timothy (Mary) Van De Steene He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Anthony; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Van De Steene.
A gathering and viewing will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial-Bower Rose Funeral Home, 222 N. Main Street, Marine City. Funeral services will be Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Brian Weber will officiate. Private graveside services and interment will take place at Rosehill Cemetery in East China Township. Memorials are suggested to "Wishes of the Family." She was born in Marine City, Michigan on February 18, 1930, daughter of the late George and Lucille (Biskner) Pauli.
Alma is survived by her siblings, Kathy Mullins, Mark (Blanca) Vardakis, Clare Pauli, Mildred (Mike) Closs, Loretta (Nelson) Prange, and Beatrice Gubanche; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Michael and Charles Vardakis.
A celebration of Alma's life will be held on February 18, 2022, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Marine City. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1952, daughter of the late Henry and Caroline (Shankin) Affeldt.
Debra married Stephen Oxner on November 19, 1971, in Berkley, Michigan.
Debra loved gardening, growing flowers, sewing, going to the casino, and liked to stay busy. She went to France with her cooking class and enjoyed that travel with her sister. She was always there to help anyone with anything. Debra liked baking and most importantly spending time with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband Stephen of 50 years are her two sons, William (Melinda) Oxner of Wisconsin and John (Michelle) Oxner of St. Clair Shores; grandchildren, Jena, John, Stephen, Sophia, and Megan; two sisters, Judy (Mike) Impulitti and Lynn (Tim) Muschik; brothers and sister-in-law, Clifford Oxner, Brian (Ronna) Oxner, and Annette Oxner; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kitty Affeldt.
A gathering and viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial-Bower Rose Funeral Home, 222 N. Main Street, Marine City. Funeral mass will be Thursday, January 6, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady on the River Parish, 610 S Water St, Marine City. Debra will lie instate from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the mass. Fr. Louis Lapeyre will officiate. Interment will take place at Christian Memorial Gardens West, Rochester Hills.

He married Joan M. Kozicki on September 6, 2002 in Marine City and they enjoyed 19 years of marriage. Gary held a long-standing career as a mechanic for a Bowling Alley. When he wasn’t working, he had a passion for tinkering and especially loved to repair slot machines. He was a huge Tigers Baseball and NASCAR fan. His favorite NASCAR drivers were Dale Ernhardt Sr. and Kevin Harvick. He also had a hobby of collecting Hot Wheels and diecast model cars. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Gary is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Christopher Revers, Sarah Revers, Pastor Paul (Stephanie) Welch II, Benjamin Welch, Andrew (Rebecca) Welch, Philip Welch, Amber Heizer, Sarah Elizabeth, and David Welch; nine grandchildren, Charlie, Joey, James, Cecil, David, Nathan, Blake, Jacob and Maleficent; a brother, Rodney (Sandy) Revers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry Lynn Revers on July 1, 2001; and three siblings, Mary Ann, Joe, and Elaine.

She was born on May 4, 1931 in East Detroit, Michigan to the late Louis and Helen Teceno. She graduated from East Detroit High School and would go on to hold a long-standing career as a secretary for Groesbeck Lumber Company. She married Arthur Giangrande in December 1951 and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage together until this passing on January 3, 1986. Vergean was a member of the St. Louis Parish in Harrison Township. Long walks and shopping at Macy’s were among her favorite pleasures, but being a mom and nana, with a passion for cooking and baking, is what she cherished most. Vergean is survived by her son, John (Jennifer) Giangrande of Florida; her daughter, Patte Dupont of Algonac; a grandson, Michael (Alexandra) Giangrande; a great granddaughter, Fiona and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Danny Giangrande in 2014; three brothers, Louis Teceno, Michael Teceno, and Joseph Teceno; three sisters, Helen Teceno, Patricia Kowalski, and Shirley Naggi. Harlan Adolphson - August 15, 1924 - December 20, 2021

Obituary Preview: Harlan Adolphson, age 97, of Marine City entered eternal life on Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born on August 15, 1924 in Manistee, Michigan to the late Harvey Sr. and Alma Adolphson. Harlan served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Italy during WWII. While he was stationed in Italy he was wounded, captured and held in a prisoner of war camp. After he was released, he returned home and received the Purple Heart Medal. After his service, he married Rosetta “Rosie” DeMeyer on January 5, 1957 in Marine City. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together until her passing on December 12, 2013. Harlan held a long-standing career of more than 35 years as a sailor working for the Columbia Transportation Company. For most of his life, he dedicated himself to working onboard the Edmund Fitzgerald, the Reserve, and the Armco sailing across the Great Lakes. When he retired from sailing, Harlan and Rosie loved to spend their winters together in Sarasota, Florida. Harlan is survived by his daughter, Cherevene (Michael) Regan; three grandchildren, Sandy Hanft, Brenda Smith, and Tammy (Chris) Jones; six great grandchildren, Anthony Caruso, Kristen Rose, Megan DeLude, Jordan DeLude, Summer Rose, and Liam Rose; his niece, Ada Deal; and special friends, Danny and Peggy Shannahan of Florida. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Pray in 2009; his grandson-in-law, Roger Hanft in March of 2021; and six siblings. Bob graduated from Marine City High School Class of 1987. He continued his education and graduated from Michigan Tech with a degree in computer engineering. Bob married Jennifer Figgs in Marine City on April 16, 1994 and to their union had three children, Ryan, Shelley and Jessica. Bob worked for Powder Cote II in Mt. Clemens until he took an earlier retirement due to health issues. He also started Uncle Bob’s Custom Tackle as a side job. Bob enjoyed building and working on computers. He had a huge love for the Great Lakes and the freighters that sailed on them, especially the Edmunds Fitzgerald. He and his wife belonged to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Society and went to many of their conventions. Bob also was an enthusiast of the Civil War. But, his biggest love of all was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jennifer; his beloved children, Ryan, Shelley and Jessica Lowe; his loving parents, Reuben and Linda Lowe; a brother, Aaron Lowe and a sister, Mary (Leon) Sutton; two brothers-in-law, David Figgs and Bob Gatz; three sisters-in-law, Becky (Ken) Frank, Peggy (Ken) Smith and Kathy (Jim) Fernandez and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his beloved cat, Boba Fett. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Michael Figgs, and his parents-in-law, Patricia and David Figgs. In addition to working a number of jobs, Janet enjoyed casino trips, playing Euchre, gardening, and bowling. Janet enjoyed walking and visiting with neighbors. Her family is grateful for the love and support shown by her kind neighbors and friends. Janet is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Carla Davidson) Lock and grandchildren Fiona Lock and Lindsay Lock of Okemos, and Colton Brown of Howell. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Scott Lock, in August of 2016 and brother, William Stell, in February of 2019, and stepson Michael Lock in December of 2018. Obituary Preview: Ashley Rose Mayer, 32, of Los Angeles, Califonia, entered eternal life on Monday, December 6, 2021. She was born on September 20, 1989, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and grew up in Marine City, Michigan. Ashley graduated from Marine City High School, Class of 2007. She then attended Central Michigan University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology. After graduating from CMU, she attended Eastern Michigan University and attained her Master’s Degree in Criminology. She met Stephen Mayer in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They went on a first date to Vinology Wine Bar, at which restaurant Stephen then proposed to Ashley years later. They moved to California together and were married by Judge Charles R. Breyer on September 19, 2015, in a ceremony at San Francisco City Hall. Ashley served for years as a social worker with Brilliant Corners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding housing for the Los Angeles homeless population. Ashley loved trying newrestaurants with her husband, hiking with her corgi Penelope, driving her Mini Cooper, and visiting her friends, including Sam Murphy, Sam Hintze, Molly Holland, Emily Zisler, and Ashley Logan, among manyothers. She served as maid of honor for many of these cherished members of her chosen family. Ashley had a personality of unparalleled warmth, a gentle, kind heart, and the most beautiful blue eyes you could ever imagine. She lifted the spirits of everyone around her with her brilliant smile and easy laugh.
Ashley is survived by her husband, Stephen; her mother, Lisa Wiegand; her grandfather, Franklin Bellamy; her grandmother, Aredetta Wiegand; two brothers, Jason (Sara) Wiegand, and Jeremy (Shelby) Wiegand; her twin sister, Amber Wiegand;her father-in-law Sandy Mayer; her mother-in-law Elizabeth Mayer; two brothers-in-law, Philip Mayer, and Peter Mayer; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Mayer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Wiegand; her grandfather, Ronald Wiegand; and her grandmother, Rosely Bellamy on July 28, 2021. She was born on October 15, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James and Isabelle Devine. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe, Michigan and then attended the University of Detroit. After college, Julienne married Vincent Patrick Byerlein on February 16, 1946 in Detroit and they enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his passing on October 3, 1978. Julienne was a member of Our Lady on the River Parish, St. Catherine’s Church in Algonac and in her more active years, she volunteered for many church events. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed golfing and traveling the world. She loved living by the water and a favorite pastime was watching the Great Lakes freighters go by. Most of all, she was dedicated to her family. Julienne is survived by her five children, Mary Pat Byerlein of Boulder, Colorado, Paul (Meg) Byerlein of Phoenix, Arizona, Christine (Robert) Skvarce of Algonac, Beth (Pavel Bouska) Byerlein of Boulder, Colorado, and Gina (Dan Passinault) Byerlein of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; her four grandchildren, David Manders, Jamie (Chris Szczypinski) Passinault, and Hannah and Hailey Bouska; her two great-grandchildren; Reece and Porter Szczypinski; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11:00am with a visitation from 10:00am until the time of mass in Our Lady on the River Parish, St. Catherine’s Church, Algonac. Face coverings are recommended during mass. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield at a later date.

The daughter of Aime and Bessie Voison. She graduated from Marine City High School class of 1946. Freida worked at Detroit Gasket before she married Clifford “Jim” Grabowski on September 17, 1949 and to their union had seven children. Frieda stayed at home and raised her family. She was an active volunteer for The March of Dimes and enjoyed going fishing, playing bingo, and working crossword puzzles. Freida had a loving heart for her cats but most of all her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Clifford Grabowski of East China, Arthur Grabowski of Marine City, Betty (Dan) Benoit of Lewiston, Beverly Grabowski, Patricia Grabowski and Martha (Michael) Radermacher all of Marysville; her grandchildren, Christopher (Danielle) Grabowski, Colette (Cory) Champine, Craig (Hollie) Grabowski, Ryan (Janelle) Endicott and Dan (Stacy) Carr; and ten great grandchildren. Robert Edward Brohl - March 26, 1931 - November 20, 2021

Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob, Gramps, GBobRobert” Brohl of Port Huron, joined his Heavenly Father and the love of his life, Ila Mae Brohl, on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the age of 90, after a brief illness. She passed away September 3, 2016. Born Robert Edward Brohl to Ed and Opal, on March 26, 1931dad was raised in Wyandotte with his three other siblings (Dick, Mitzi and Jean) and graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1948. Dating Ila in High School, he then went off to serve in the Navy.Upon returning, he found Ila and they married June 13 th , 1954, their love lasting 62 years until mom’s passing. Dad worked at Chrysler in Detroit and already with three young daughters decided to take a position with Chrysler Marine division in Marysville moving his young family to Port Huron, adding three more children.After retiring from Chrysler (as he could never sit still) dad took a position with “The Spirits Shoppe” party store for the next 20 years, greeting and talking to customers who knew him well. His grandson Matthew worked alongside him while attending school, a time he cherished.Dad also had many grandchildren and the great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. Dad was a wonderful man who treasured his family and “puttering” around the house. He never missed a tennis match, baseball game, or band concert of any child or grandchild.His motor home at all events was always busy with hungry and thirsty athletes! He was also a board member of the Port Huron Housing Commission for many years. An avid golfer, dad was always up for a game but truly loved his Saturday morning golf with his son-in-law, Rich Schock. Dad is survived by his six children, Deborah and the late Rich Schock of Port Huron,Karen Goodwine of Port Huron, who took loving care of him for the past few years and was amazing in her patience and compassion with him while he was ill, Marcia (Kevin) Quandt of Burtchville, Lisa Brohl Epley of Port Huron, Robert (Aimee) Brohl of Buffalo Grove, IL, Daniel Brohl of Port Huron, his ten grandchildren Andrea(Bobby) May, Jeff (Ann) Goodwine, Pamela (Robert) Aaron, Lindsay (Dave) Crandall, MatthewQuandt, Alyce (Joe) Carl, Daniel Brohl, Jr., Robert Brohl, Evan and Charlotte Brohl; his 17 great grandchildren, Avery and Keaton Aaron, Baily and Laily Brohl, JJ Brohl,Zafira Carl, Kamden Crandall, , Ariannah Doan, Brooklynn Emigh,Brody and Khloe Fye, Lotus and Mylee Aaron, Ryan and Madelyn May, Korbin and Weston Goodwine and his son-in-law, Rob Emigh. Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ila Mae Brohl, his son-in-law, Richard Floyd Schock, and his granddaughter Jessica (Schock) Fye. As dad always said, “don’t be sad for me when I go, I’ve had a great life”.Accordingly, a private memorial honoring and celebrating his long life is being held by his immediate family. Obituary Preview: Proverbs 31: “….Who can find a virtuous woman ? for her price is far above rubies, … strength and honour are her clothing, … she openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness… they call her blessed.” Elisabeth Spaltensperger, 83, journeyed home to meet to her Lord and awaiting family on November 1, 2021. She was born on June 26, 1938 in the village of Bascsentivan, Yugoslavia to the late Heinrich Stefan and Elisabeth Knobl. After escaping from a Russian death camp during WWII, a plan devised by her father, she would immigrate to the United States through Ellis Island in 1952. She married George Spaltensperger on August 2, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. Together they ran a successful business, raised two children, and went on many adventures. George and “Betty” enjoyed 56 years together retiring to the Gaylord, Michigan area, until George passed in 2015. Elisabeth found joy in many things and was a living representation of Christ - her devotion to God was evident in all facets of her life. She had a deep love for her family, a passion for all things gardening, was a self-taught herbalist, and became a public speaker and author of a popular book describing her experiences in the Russian concentration camp and ultimate escape and travel to America. Elisabeth is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Kurt); her son, George Jr. (Kim); her grandchildren Lisa Jane, Anna (Jon), Jacob S., Jacob D., and MacKenzie; and great-granddaughter, Heidi. She is also survived by her older brother, Joseph, whom she deeply loved – always. Arrangements made by Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City. Cremation has taken place. She faced that battle as she faced the world; with grace and determination. She was born on December 26, 1963 in St. Clair to Graham and Mary Jaros. Paula married Thomas E. Rood on June 14, 1986 in Algonac and they enjoyed over 35 years of marriage together. She attended Michigan State University where she met Tom, and then attended SC4 and graduated with a degree in nursing. She would then go on to hold a long-standing career as an oncology registered nurse working for Henry Ford Macomb Hospital (formerly St. Joseph West) until her retirement in 1996. Family was everything to Paula. She loved spending time being around her children and grandson, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she enjoyed shopping for gifts, decorating her house, and hosting Christmas parties. Christmas music was a staple in her house generally starting in June! Most of all, Paula had a warm and generous heart and was always there for her family and friends. Paula is survived by her husband, Tom; her four children, Kristen (Eric) Rudko, Kelsey (Kenny) Wiseheart, Erik (Crystal) Rood, and Alec Rood and his girlfriend, Michaela Buckley; her grandson, Graham Rudko; her mother, Mary Jaros, her sister, Kathryn (Tom) Baker; her niece and nephew, Alexandra Baker and Christopher Baker. She was preceded in death by her father, Graham Jaros in 2019. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care she received at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center and from her oncologist, Dr. Matthew Pianko. She graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1973. After continuing her education, she began her career with Tracy-Stephens Advertising Inc. before she started her own company, McLaren Advertising in Rochester Hills and then Troy, MI. She joined the Women’s Advertising Club in 1986 and held offices of President and Vice President as well as numerous director positions. She co-chaired Career Fair and chaired other events including Women of the Year, the Liz Clark Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser, and the Scholarship Committee. In 1994, she was recipient of the WAC President’s award. She was also a member of the Women’s Economic Club. Karen is survived by sisters, Nancy S. Mullenhour and Vicky D. Schleeter as well as nieces, Stephanie, Jaymie, and Marlena. As was her husband, her body was donated to the University of Michigan’s Medical School Anatomical Program. Rosemary lived most of her life in Marine City and rented from family, Chuck and Molly Beattie for at least 38 years, and they have both been very good to her. In her free time, she loved sewing, playing bingo and going to casinos with her friends and family. She will miss all her family, friends, and people she talked to in life. If she could, she would tell them all to be safe, and good-bye, and see you one day. Rosemary is survived by her five grandchildren, David Clemons, Pat Clemons, Robert Clemons, Kenny Clemons, and Marietta Clemons; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who she will miss dearly. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Jim Clemons and Robert Clemons who both passed shortly after Adron, their dad. McClelland on August 28, 1954 and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage until her passing on January 27, 2019. When he wasn’t working the land, Jack was a member of the Smiths Creek American Legion Post. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved vacationing with Anna at their cabin up north. Jack is survived by his two sons, Edward (Linda) Bishop of Avoca, and Jack (Brenda) Bishop Jr. of Memphis; a daughter, Linda (Jim) McVean of Marysville; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Julie) Bishop; and family member, Penny Bishop. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Bishop; and six siblings. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00am with a visitation held at 10:00am until the time of service in Lamb United Methodist Church, 1209 Cove Road, Wales Township, Michigan 48027. Obituary Preview: Jane E. Jandron, 46, of St. Clair Township entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, September 30, 2021 after a long illness. She was born on December 26, 1974 in Port Huron to Dale and Evelyn Harris. Jane spent time growing up in the Salvation Army Port Huron Corps. She graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1993 and was part of the Northern marching band. After High School, she worked at Port City Communications in Port Huron, then for nearly the last 24 years, she worked at Accurate Answering Service in St. Clair Shores, working her way from Operator to Assistant Manager and IT. Jane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001, and when she was no longer able to make the drive in, her generous boss allowed her to continue working from home in a reduced capacity. She was also a member of the Michigan Transit Museum in Mount Clemens where she helped work on the railroad track, sell tickets to the train rides, help with the complex operation of the Holiday Express trains and was more than happy to make a nice hot meal for the crew on the coal caboose stove after the long nights of operating. She had also served as the Secretary of the museum, and as Retail Coordinator, often seen manning the tables at train shows. Jane and David Jandron were the answers to each other’s' prayers, and on September 7, 2002 they were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair. They enjoyed 19 happy years of marriage together. She was steadfast in her faith, and it was her faith in God that guided her through life. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001, Jane was determined to hike both halves of Tahquamenon Falls, which she did. Jane and Dave loved to go on adventures together and they rarely spent time apart. Jane loved sunflowers, calling them "smiles on a stem". She also loved animals and birds and had a number of cats and a dog over the years. She liked to keep her mind active by doing crossword puzzles and getting creative by crocheting. She was also part of a lady’s pool league for a few years, which she really enjoyed. Jane was best known for her infectious smile. If you met her once, you'd remember her. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Always sunny, always friendly, she tried to live her life by setting an example for others. She faced her challenges in life with grace and poise, never wavering in her faith. Jane is survived by her husband David Jandron, parents Dale and Evelyn Harris, sister Julie (Mike) Pearson, niece Katrina (Jeremy) Baiocchi, nephew Michael Pearson, Jr. and grandniece Lyla, Uncle Alvin (Rosemary) McNaughton, Aunt Marie (Ray) Dishman, and many cousins. She is also survived by her in-laws Suzanne (Michael) Jandron, brother-in-law Jason (Molly) Jandron, and many more family and friends who loved her dearly. A visitation will be held from 3:00pm – 8:00pm on Thursday, October 7, 2021 in the Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City.
