Sharon Ann Koppinger - September 11, 1939 - March 28, 2023

Departed: 03/28/2023 (Port Huron)
Obituary Preview: Sharon Ann Koppinger, age 83, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
She was born in St. Clair, Michigan on September 11, 1939, daughter of the late James and Margaret (Hamblin) Drechsler.
Sharon married Pete Koppinger on December 26, 1961, at All Saints Catholic Church in Memphis. He passed away on May 13, 1995. Sharon Ann Koppinger was a woman of extraordinary faith, love, and integrity who loved her family and the Catholic Church above all other things. Her love was evident through her close-knit family, where she was described as the “center hub” of all 4 kids, 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She led by example and always taught her family the importance of following God’s will and loving each other. Her favorite line sums it up: “Do whatever makes your heart happy.”
Although Sharon lived alone following her husband Pete’s passing, few days went by where her children or grandchildren did not stop in to spend quality time with her. Sharon would always pause what she was doing to fix a snack, share some advice, make a witty comment, or give an update on the latest politics. Her impact on students in her classroom quickly transformed into an even bigger impact on her grandkids when she retired early to be involved in their daily lives. From school pickups to daily lunches and rides to practices, her grandkids knew she would always be there. Her favorite days were spent going on trips to the family cottage, boating, playing cards, shopping, re-arranging her furniture, watching her grandkids grow—most importantly, being with her loved ones. We will always remember her dedication to saying the rosary, her giving heart above and beyond what we could ask for, and her witty humor that never failed to put a smile on our faces.
She is survived by her four children, Anthony (Marjory) Koppinger, Marian (Rich) Ward, David (Eileen) Koppinger, and Kathryn (Ronald) Raymo all of Fort Gratiot; grandchildren, Kristie (Rob) Mulder, Adrienne (Ryan) Leto, Mitchell Koppinger, Sydney Koppinger, Michael Ward, Anthony Ward, Sharon Ward, Nicole Koppinger, Jenna Koppinger, Pete Raymo, Hunter Raymo, Andrew Raymo, Madison Raymo, and Marisa Raymo; great-granddaughter, Elly Mulder; siblings, Lenore Tank and Timothy (Nila) Drechsler; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Koppinger, Pete, Hunter, and Andrew Raymo, and Michael and Anthony Ward.
A gathering and viewing will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1505 Ballentine St, Port Huron, Michigan 48060 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memphis Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at the Port Huron Golf Club at 2:00 p.m.

Departed: 02/12/2023 (Port Huron)
Obituary Preview: Ní Bheidh A Leith Againn Arís (His Like We’ll Not Have Again) Michael Raftery, MD
Dr. Michael Raftery, 99 of Port Huron, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
He was born in Sligo, Ireland on April 30, 1923, the son of the late Michael Joseph "Joe" and Helena "Nell" (Reynolds) Raftery. He was the oldest of 7 children. After graduating from medical school at University College Dublin he emigrated to the US where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital.
He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy from 1954-57, stationed at the Medical Clinic, Washington Navy Yard (aka Naval Gun Factory) in Washington D.C. during the Korean War. After his service in the Navy, he took a position at the Southeast Florida Tuberculosis Hospital in Lantana, FL where he met his future bride.

Being active was important to Michael. He loved running, skiing and golfing as well as summer sailing and canoeing with family and friends.
