Obituary Preview: Barbara J. Lietke, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was a businesswoman but loved gardening and the outdoors. BJ loved blue willows and lived her life to the fullest. She loved traveling and shopping with her friends and family; she treasured her grandchildren and spending time with them. Barbara is survived by her beloved dog, Mister. She was the dear mother of Danny Lietke and Sandra Bortkewicz; cherished grandmother to Sherry (James), Darlene, Kelly, Toni, Angel, David Wayne, Laura, Michael, Sara and John David; GG to numerous treasured great-grandchildren; sister to Billy Jean (Vicky), Robert, Mary (Delmar), Shirley (James), Danny, Jack (Melba); aunt to several nieces and nephews; and “Ma” to quite a few friends who turned into family. She also leaves behind a longtime partner, Manual. Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved children Debbie (Phil) Bacino and David (Karen Cho) Lietke; fond grandson Daniel Son; dear parents Curtis and Ollie Board; and siblings James (Freda), Paul (Dollie), Curtis Jr. (Toby), Patrick (Margret), Lewis (Lola) and Dorothy (Dean). Obituary Preview: Anthony Francis Kocielko, “Tony” born May 2nd, 1957, passed away peacefully at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL on the morning of March 21st, 2024.
Tony lived most of his life in Lockport but resided in Joliet. He worked for the EJ&E/CN Railroad for over 30 years until retirement in 2017. He is survived by his loving wife Juliann “Julie” Kocielko; Daughter Alicia (Neil) Thrift; Sons Rob Morrow and Bob Cooper; Grandchildren Catalina (Kyle), Kaylee (Dylan), Dave, Logan, Rocco, Jayden, Hunter, Riley, Tricia, Cora, Kathryn, Emily, and Nicholas; great-grandchild Fallon Sage; beloved brother Dennis (Joyce) Kocielko of Beverly Hills, FL; sisters Marilyn (Ed) Kocielko and Marcia Kocielko of Morris, IL and Marlene Strysik of Joliet, IL; Nieces and Nephews Mariah (Sam) Kelly, Mike Mitok, Joey Kelly, Michael (Shelley) Kocielko, Casey Strysik, Tommy Joe (Pam) Wittkofski, Tammy Ebel, Brenda Paris; great-nieces Denise Kocielko, Shannon Wittkofski and McKenzie Ebel and great-nephews Dennis Kocielko and Thomas Wittkofski. Tony was a very kind and generous guy who loved going on bike runs with his many friends cross-country or weekend rides. He was adventurous, funny and one of the smartest guys you’d ever met. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. His humor and wit were never-ending.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held on May 2, 2024 at the Lockport American Legion, 15052 Archer Ave, Lockport IL 60441 from 4-7 pm.

Obituary Preview: Gary Walk, age 88, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2024. Gary had always been a hardworking man. He began his career working for the City of Joliet as a Civil Engineer before moving on to become Assistant Director of Public Works in Glencoe, IL. He eventually moved on to become the Director of Public Works in Downer’s Grove. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force and spent 40 years in the Reserves. Gary left the military as a Chief Master Sargeant. He was also a devoted paramedic for 20 years and attended night school in his younger years at Lewis University to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Gary is survived by the love of his life, beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Donna Walk, who he met when both were high school sophomores. Gary also leaves behind two loving and devoted sons, Russell “Russ” (Jami) Walk and Randall Walk; treasured grandchildren Jonathon (Cailin), Micah and Kylie; and a cherished great-grandson Liam Matthew. Gary was preceded in death by his dear son Robert “Robby” Walk; caring parents Leo and Velma; and sister Vera. For the last 21 years, Gary and Donna enjoyed their lakeside home in Fairfield Glade, TN. Arthur Pesavento, age 65, passed away peacefully February 05, 2024 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois with family members by his side. Art was a lifelong resident of Lockport. After graduation he went to work at the EJ&E Railway until it closed in 2013. He went on to work and retire from the Laborers Union, Local 75 in Crest Hill, Illinois.
Art was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandi Shuman, granddaughter, Makayla (Jacksonville, Florida) and his parents, Marcus and Margaret Pesavento.
Art is survived by his daughter Toni (Zach) Duke, and five grandchildren, McKinley and “Henny” Duke, Parker, Jace and Lily Shuman all of Jacksonville, Florida.
Art is survived by his siblings, Paul (Nikki), Kathy (Willis), Karen, and Mark and nephews Chris and Russ Pesavento.
Art was a man of very few words. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and enjoyed playing the horses. Obituary Preview: Beth Ann (Logan) Smith, 75 of Lemont, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side. Beth ended her long battle with cancer on the evening of January 30, 2024.
Memorial services will be on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 3 pm to 7 pm, at Goodale Memorial Chapel at 912 South Hamilton Street, Lockport, IL 60441.
Per Beth’s wishes, Cremation Rites were respectfully addressed.
Beth was born to the late Kenneth and Geraldine (Fischer) Logan on July 21, 1948, in Berlin, Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband of over fifty years, Donald Smith. Beth enjoyed being a realtor for over 30 years. She enjoyed working with her uncle as a partner in a construction company, building a few homes. She felt this was something her father would have been proud of.
Beth never let work come in her way of having a barn full of horses while pursuing her dream of owning a racehorse. Beth received the most pleasure in being a mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always there the second someone needed her. She very much enjoyed spending time with her family, laughing until she cried, long cruises topless in her convertible with the music as loud as it could go, and trips to the casino. A woman who welcomed every person into her home and life and made them feel beyond loved.
Beth is survived by her three daughters; Regi Noodwang, Kelly (Mike) Oliver, and Vikki (Adam) Erickson; her sister, Kim (Rick) Smutny; thirteen grandchildren, Christine (Ryan), Miranda, Michael (Margie), Paige (Nick), Alex, Cody, Nicholas, Jacob, Hunter, and Courtney; five great-grandchildren, Charlie, Blake, Henry, Colton, and Adalyn; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many people who loved and considered Beth to be their Mom and Nana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Douglas Otto.
Beth lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with her family and friends will be forever remembered.

Obituary Preview: Jerry Wayne Veres 3/1/52-1/28/24 Jerry was born to Jack and Mary (Mund) Veres on 3/1/52 in Dearborn, Michigan. He was the second of four children. Danny, Jerry, Gail and Valerie. He graduated from Bloom High School in 1970 and began working for Edward Don & Company at the age of 18 side by side with his brother Danny. He married Pamela Fliter on June 30, 1973. And in 1976 they welcomed a baby girl Dawn. In 1982, Jerry and Pam welcomed a son Wayne into their lives. And that completed their family of four. They lived for 21 years in Alsip, IL. Before moving to Lockport where they have resided for the past 24 yrs. Over the years, Dawn brought 3 bouncing boys into Pam and Jerry’s lives, Ethan now age 19, and twins Dexter and Dylan age 11. Wayne married Darlene (Kadelak) Veres in 2013. Jerry retired from Edward Don & Co after 48 years in 2018. He made many amazing friends there. He was a dedicated Lockport Moose Member of 40 plus years. We know he will be greatly missed by many of the fellow Moose Members. Jerry was one to be counted on. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor. He was big on family, teaching his kids that family comes first. He was a proud papa. He cracked many crappy jokes, always trying to make people laugh in hard times. But man did he have a temper, you never wanted to be on his bad side. He is survived by his loving wife Pam, daughter Dawn (Veres) Christie, 3 grandsons Ethan, Dexter and Dylan. Son, Wayne and daughter in law Darlene (Kadelak) Veres. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Mary Veres, and his baby sister Valerie (Veres) Faulds. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman who found solace in the great outdoors. He cherished spending time camping and enjoying the company of his family and friends. His loyal hunting partner, a chocolate Lab named "Gauge," was always by his side. In his professional life, Donald worked for the Lockport Township Highway Department. He took great pride in his job and had a deep sense of camaraderie with his coworkers
Donald will be remembered for his warm personality and his love for his family. He is survived by his dear mother, Lynne Rigoni, and his siblings: Robert (Robin) Rigoni, Staci Rigoni, and Jaimie (Bernie) Trantina. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as a great niece and a great nephew. Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald A Rigoni Sr.

Ronald, fondly known as “Ronnie” to everyone, was born on February 25, 1956 to Carl and Eleanor Rego in Joliet, IL. Ron married the love of his life Rita on October 17, 1981. They have four wonderful children. Laura, Thomas, Daniel and Jennifer (Kyle). His granddogs, Calvin, who was his little buddy and followed him everywhere and Bear who was just starting to know him. Ron is survived by his brothers Ken (Julie) and James Rego. His in-laws Jack (Elaine) Lombardo and Louise (Joe) Crocher, nephews, nieces numerous cousins and some dear family friends. Ron was a very talented carpenter who built and remodeled hundreds of homes. And, being semi-retired, he was a very proud school bus driver for Lockport High School. Ron was a caring and always made sure everyone was taken care of. He will be truly missed. Ruth M. Reiter passed away at Goldwater Care nursing home in Danville, Ill on January 4, 2024 at the age of 100. She was born to Henry and Neva Winke (Deadmore) in Homer Township, Ill on August 16, 1923. Her parents raised 11 children (6 sisters and 5 brothers) on a farm in Homer Township.
In 1943 Ruth married Henry Sluiter in and they had 3 sons (Allen, Larry, and Ronald), Henry passed away in 1953 and Ruth and obtained a job at Ford Aircraft to support the family.
Subsequently, Ruth met Fred Hansel and they married in 1955, moved the family to Joliet Ill, and built a new home on 2122 E. Washington Street. Fred later opened the East Lawn Barber Shop attached to their home. After Fred passed away in 1985, she moved to Mokena to be near her two older sisters.
She met Virgil Reiter in 1990 and they married in 1992 and lived on Parker Road in Homer Glen. Virgil passed away in 2003. Eventually she moved to Lockport, IL to be near her loving sister June Kemp. She lived in Lockport for approximately sixteen years and in 2021, at the age of 97 decided to move close to her son Allen and his wife Patricia, residing at the Villas of Hollybrook assisted living facility in Danville, IL.
Ruth’s life revolved around her family, including her husbands, children, and siblings. The Winkes were a large, closeknit, and fun-loving family who would meet at their parents’ farm on many weekends to enjoy food, drinks, games and storytelling. At any one time there could be over 40 relatives at the farm. As a wife and mother Ruth was dedicated and supportive to her husbands and children ensuring they had a happy home life.
Ruth was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary at Stone City VFW in Joliet where she and Fred were very active in all areas of the Post. At the Lockport VFW she was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary and supported Virgil in his Post responsibilities.
She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Joliet and later at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Lockport.
Ruth was preceded in death by her three husbands, Henry Sluiter, Fred Hansel, and Virgil Reiter, and by her siblings, Henrietta, Evelyn (Marti), Cecilia (Cooper, Newton), John, Robert, Edward, Donald, Richard and Marylou (Holeman).
Ruth is survived by her sons and their spouses, Allen and Patricia (Cook), Larry and Elaine (Ford), and Ronald and Rae (Brown), her loving sister June (Hurley, Kemp), and 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S Hamilton St, Lockport, IL 60441, phone 815-838-1533.
A viewing will be held from 4:30 pm to 7:30pm on January 9th. Burial will be the following day, January 10th at Resurrection Cemetery. A service will be held at the Goodale Memorial Chapel at 10AM, prior to burial.

Passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born December 22, 1933 in Chicago, IL. Glenn graduated from Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College and completed his Master’s degree in Management at the University of Illinois.
Glenn spent his career developing computer systems for colleges and universities such as Joliet Junior College, Lewis University, DePaul University, and Rock Valley College. He also had an excellent singing voice and was involved in many musicals and choirs. He was also an avid tennis and ping pong player.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Joanne Rowley whom he married on August 27, 1955 in Lockport, Illinois. Cherished children Linda (Stephen) Oliveri, Steven (Glenda) Harvey, Brian (Martha) Harvey, Tim (fiancé Heather) Harvey, Kay (Jeff) Snider. Precious 14 grandchildren and 2 Step-grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Gudrun Harvey nee Tonnesen, siblings Richard Gascon, Gladys Hamilton, and Eileen Ann Green.

Marcia retired from the K-Mart Corporation in 2009 after 32 years of service. She is survived by her loving son Anthony Krenzel; brothers Peter (Kathy) and Brian (the late Heidi) Drexler; sisters Annette Drexler and Barbara Schneider nee Drexler, brother in-laws Charles (Linda) and Duane (Debbie) Krenzel, mother in-law Rose (the late Pius) Krenzel nee Kraft, also numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Dennis Krenzel, daughter Angela Krenzel, parents Joseph and Corinne Drexler, and one month old sister Christine Ann Drexler. Per her families wishes, Marcia will be laid to rest privately alongside her husband and daughter at Lockport City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton St, Lockport, IL 60441.

Raymond was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joseph and Julia Sliwinski, Brother Daniel F. and Sally Sliwinski, nephew Daniel Sliwinski Jr., and his dear friend and brother-in-law Jerry Lee Mescher.
Raymond is survived by his loving sister Dorothy Mescher and was dearly loved by his nieces Lynn Arwood, Susan (Bryan) Sheldon, Kerry Mescher, Mary (Dave) Kusmirek, Pat (Frank) Hurth and Karen (Joseph) Alberti.
Raymond was an important presence in the lives of his 10 great nieces and nephews, Julie, Jeff, Katelyn, Rob, Michael, Matthew, Abbey, Emily, Sarah, and Andy, who will miss him dearly. He was also blessed with 2 great-great nieces and a great nephew, Charlotte, Hudson, and Magnolia. He used his artistic ability every year by drawing a custom cartoon for each on a special envelope for every celebration that they treasure.
Our Polish Prince was a Lemont native, a graduate of Joliet Catholic High, and a proud Army Veteran. Ray loved bowling, golf, photography, and drawing cartoons. He truly enjoyed the times traveling with Jerry and Dorothy, Branson Missouri being his favorite. He collected everything Norman Rockwell and was known for his quick wit and humor. Ray loved his Pabst Blue Ribbon where he worked for most of his lifetime.
Ray was a faithful servant, and a devout Catholic. Besides immediate family, Raymond had amazing people in his life, his Angels next door Rick and Rose Ende and loving caregiver Roberta Schilling, all who helped him maintain his independence and live in his home until his passing.

Obituary Preview: Janice K. (Akre) Sleezer, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023, at her home in Lockport.
Janice was born December 12, 1948, in Aurora, IL; she was the daughter of Ralph and Grace (Thompson) Akre. Janice loved growing up on a farm outside of Lisbon, IL. While growing up, she participated in 4-H, cheerleading, band (clarinet), and chorus in addition to other clubs and organizations at school and church. She met her husband Phillip when she was 10 years old and later dated him a few times in high school. After graduating from Newark High School she went to Illinois State University and studied health, physical education, and drivers’ education and reconnected with Phillip. They were married on their graduation day, June 12, 1971. Janice taught for two years in Elmhurst Park before moving to Willowick, OH, where she taught for four years. When her two daughters were born, she stayed home with them for eight years, before returning to teach at Homer Junior High School, where she taught for 23 years before retiring. She continued to substitute teach for seven more years. During her free time, Janice helped her husband Phillip at his businesses: Lockport Rental Center and The Mower Garage.
Janice was a crafting enthusiast. She enjoyed sewing clothes and quilts, crocheting, doing needlepoint, and painting ceramics and sweatshirts. Janice also enjoyed riding bikes, traveling, planting flowers, and photographing her family, friends, and nature. She was a long-time member of Shepherd of the Hill church and choir, and Janice participated in many ministries over the years such as VBS, bible studies, and Stephen Ministries. In the past several years, she and her husband enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers, FL. One of her favorite things to do, though, was to spend time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Phillip, and two daughters, Vicki (Gary) Maxwell of Gifford and Connie (David) Storey of DeKalb; 8 grandchildren: Skylar, Kaitlyn, Andrew and Rebekah Maxwell and Clark, Lorelei, Grant, and Isabelle Storey; 2 great-grandchildren Rowan Maxwell and Lauren Miller; two sisters, Pamela (Jerry) Blood of Ottawa and Marcia Hackerson of St. Louis, MO; and one brother, Ronald (Tami) Akre of Lisbon.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Lightways Hospice for all their assistance and excellent care over the past nine months. We also want to thank all of her friends and family for their prayers and support over the past year.
Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, December 1, at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church in Lockport. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church with Pastor Jon Pedersen officiating. Memorial gifts can be directed to Shepherd of the Hill.

Dorothy Ann Otten, née Temenak age 85, passed away suddenly on Nov. 23, 2023. Dorothy and her husband, Harry were part of several communities including Mt. Greenwood, Midlothian, Green Garden/Peotone, and Lockport. Faith and Family were their core values that they instilled in their 6 children. They were blessed to have 13 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and was enthusiastic to share her Faith, first as a teacher in a Catholic school, later as the Director of CCD at St. Boniface in Monee and finally, as a Religious Education teacher at St. Joseph’s Lockport. While she dedicated herself to raising her children, she also found a fulfilling career later in life as a postal carrier. Being able to establish relationships along her route gave her great satisfaction. She had a contagious laugh and was always the life of a party. Her generosity and compassion made her the person that everyone called “friend”. She is survived by her adoring children, Mark (Anita), Madonna (Nick), Phil (Jeanie), Joe (Sue), Tom (Irene), Kurt (Linda). 13 Grandchildren, Leah, Amber (Steve), Danielle (Brandon), Lauren (Kris), Victoria (David), Zach (Macy), Eric (Jackie), Heather (Dean), Amber (Joey), Faith (Paul), Kara, Greg and Justin. She was blessed with 22 Great Grandchildren, Evelyn, Elaina, Silas, Theo, Felicity, Miriam, Annalise, Kayley, Beckett, Sophia, Grayson, Mikayla, Charlie Jean, Tucker, Durham, Riley, Reese, Brady, Brenna, Joseph, Junia, and Lydia.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her best friend and loving husband, Harry, her beloved parents, Helen and Frank Temenak and her brother Bud.

Donald B. Acord was survived by his daughter, Janet Moran, two grandsons Eli and Liam, brother Douglas Acord two stepdaughters, Wanda Willis and Kathy Cox, and six step-grandchildren.
Donald B. Acord was inducted into the Army on June 27, 1968, and finished his active-duty tour on June 26, 1970. He started his time in the Army at the rank of Private E1 and finished his active-duty tour at the rank of Sergeant E5 and was in a Staff Sergeant E6 slot of 11B040. SGT Acord received high level awards in his 1 year in Vietnam which includes the Bronze Star, Air Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2x bronze stars, and Combat Infantry Badge. SGT Acord progressed through the ranks of Private First Class to Sergeant in just under 12 months in Vietnam due to the heavy casualties incurred from the battle at Hill 937. SGT Acord was Honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves in 1974 and he received certificates of appreciation from President Nixon and General Westmoreland for his honorable service.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 9am until the time of Service at 11am at Goodale Memorial Chapel. Interment following at
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
