She graduated from Jackson Memorial High School where she met her high school sweetheart and lifelong husband of 64 years, the late Reverend Fred Draper Riggins, Jr. whom she called the joy of her life. This young couple lived with Fred’s parents, at first, before moving into a company house in Austinville, VA. In search of employment, Fred and Margie moved with their two young daughters, Susan and Nora, to Greensboro, NC, where their son, Mark, would later be born. Fred and Margie were never rich in dollars, but never did without; God always met their needs.
After moving to North Carolina, Margie faithfully served the Lord at her husband's side as he was first elected to be a deacon and later a pastor.  As a pastor's wife, Margie served faithfully until Pastor Riggins’ death on Monday morning, April 2, 2018. Sarah Ann Hayes - December 03, 1927 - March 26, 2022

Departed: 03/26/2022 (Greensboro)
Obituary Preview: Sarah Ann Bundy Hayes, 94, passed away peacefully March 26, 2022 after breaking her hip and becoming bedbound a year ago.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at George Brothers Funeral Service with Pastor Jeff Stone officiating.  Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to the service.
She was the daughter of Jamestown dairy farmers, Otis and Pearl Bundy, and the sister of Henrietta Hester Harris of Hester’s Creative Schools and Roland Bundy of Jean’s Used Furniture, and half-brother Otis Bundy, Jr. of Southern Railroad. She was 6th generation descendent of Joseph Kerner (Körner) of Kernersville, and told childhood stories about getting treats of penny candy at the Kerner mansion (known as Körner’s Folly). She mainly grew up with and had fond memories of her Granny, Judith Matthews, of the infamous Bundy Boarding House in Jamestown where she spent most of her childhood days.
She had a kind heart and understood that it was the thought that mattered to people; whether it was providing clothes for someone who lost everything in a house fire or a stuffed animal for someone in the hospital. She had a small town way of looking at the world by keeping in contact with people and truly caring about them and their family; remaining steadfast to her friends, and always forgiving people of their faults (That’s ar’ight, she would say). She had a quick wit and goofy old sayings and songs. She enjoyed being a matchmaker of acquaintances and friends and even saw some of them marry; match.com and eHarmony would have been her competition today.  In addition, she knew it was important to network with people; know them on a personal and business level long before Facebook or LinkedIn were a concept.  She graduated from Jamestown High School with great math skills where she was able to cipher numbers quickly and accurately without a calculator; she loved a good deal or a big sale to stretch her dollars as a single Mom.
As a young adult, she worked for Burlington Industries, Inc. and learned about the quality of fabrics. As a savvy woman in the 60s and 70s, she co-owned Midway Service Station along with her husband providing petrol and goods to the farmers of Oak Ridge for 15 years until she became a salesperson for Stuart McGuire; she sold shoes door-to-door being awarded a trip to Switzerland for reaching above her sales’ goals.  She always regretted not going to nursing school, but visited and cared for the elderly in her younger years.  She retired from Neese’s Sausage at age 79, where she was always loyal and promoted their products, even beyond retirement. Her family appreciates the legacy she leaves behind of kind heartedness, quick wit, and a strong work ethic in her sons Steve Hayes; grandchildren Danielle, Tyler, and Dallas, Mike Hayes (Sandy); grandchildren Ryan and Kimberly (great grandchildren Leanna and Cooper), Kenneth Hayes (Teresa); grandchildren Nathan, Naomi, and Mark, daughter Karen VanLare; grandchildren Sydney and Boston.  She is preceded in death by all three of her siblings, ex-husband Dallas Hayes, three wonderful man-friends, Worth Fields, Bill Collins, and Jones Daggenhart, and two son-in-laws, all of whom she cared for dearly.  Ya’ll be good!

Dot Branson Lewis - April 30, 1936 - March 19, 2022

Departed: 03/19/2022 (Greensboro)
Obituary Preview: Mrs. Doris “Dot” Branson Lewis, 85 years young, passed away early Saturday morning, March 19, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital.  She was surrounded by her family with her husband by her side, hand in hand.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in McLeansville with Pastor Josh Eller officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Dot was born April 30, 1936 in Davidson County to the late Alton Oscar and Minnie Etta Hedrick Branson. She moved to Greensboro at the age of 17 where she soon met the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Lowell “LL”.  She served as the Den mother for her son’s boy scout group and Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop.  If she could be involved, she was.  Dot was a longtime member of Hunter Hills Baptist Church and later Calvary Baptist Church.  Her church family was very important to her and even more so after her retirement from Lucent Technologies.  Dot spent many years teaching Sunday School and kept the Senior Adult group busy by planning activities and outings.  She started a chapter of the Red Hat Society where she served as the “Queen Mother” and enjoyed traveling out on the town with all of her Red Hat ladies.  They were a sight to see!  Dot was a busy bee and mastered the art of being a social butterfly.  She would find any chance to be outside, even if that meant push mowing her yard.  She loved gardening, taking water aerobics classes at the Smith Center, swimming in her back yard pool, taking walks in the neighborhood, square dancing, playing canasta and being crafty.  There wasn’t much she couldn’t do.  In fact, she decided to earn her Bachelor’s degree from High Point University at the age of 56.  She wanted to set an example for her family that anything is possible.  Her greatest pastime (besides talking on the phone) was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who she called the loves of her life as well as her one true love, Lowell.  She never acted her age and always kept everyone entertained.  Her fun-spirited soul and zest for life will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  The world won’t shine as bright with her earthly presence gone but we can rest assured knowing she is wrapped in the arms of the Lord watching over us all.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruby Branson Tysinger, Donald Branson and Inez Branson Owens.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Lowell Thomas Lewis; son, Marc T. Lewis; daughter, Sheri McBride; grandchildren, Emilee Barr (Michael), Marc Lewis II and Kaylee McBride, step-granddaughter, Katie Gromlovits.
