Obituary Preview: David (Dave) Henry Ragen of Knoxville, TN passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2022 with his wife and daughters by his side. Dave was born April 30, 1967 in Detroit, MI and was raised in the Wyandotte, Trenton and Atlanta, Michigan areas.  He graduated in 1986 from Atlanta Jr-Sr High School in Atlanta, MI.  In 1987 he married and later raised two daughters, Ashley and Shelby.  He and his family relocated to Knoxville, TN where he spent the last 19 years.  Dave and his wife Lisa had known each other for over 46 years total, they spent nearly their whole lives together…
Dave was a loving husband, devoted father, the best grandpa, dog dad, the challenging son and a great friend to many.  For a majority of his life Dave worked in the trucking industry, following in the footsteps of his father.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing, although couldn’t start a fire if he tried - and could be out-fished any day of the week.  He had a passion for entertaining family and friends, cooking and grilling, loud music, cornhole and puttering on his tractor.  He created a bar-b-que smoked meatloaf that turned meatloaf haters into meatloaf lovers.  And when not found spending time with his wife and girls, working on a project in the yard or on a sentimental gift, or even hanging down at the neighbors’ house, you could find Dave spending time on his pontoon.
Dave is survived by his childhood friend and wife of nearly 35 years Lisa (Dickson) Ragen, daughters Ashley (Dustin) Coapman and Shelby Ragen (Jamie Sanders) all of Knoxville, TN. Grand-daughters Blakely Coapman, Isabelle Sanders, and a new addition due Fall 2022.  Foster son Christopher (Jessica) Broussard of Maryville, TN, foster daughter Courtney Lee of LaFayette, LA, his mother Novella (Gerwolls) Ragen of Atlanta, MI, brother James III (Michelle) Ragen of Cookeville, TN, and sister Tammi (Chris) Oberski of Atlanta, MI. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and special friends across Tennessee and Michigan.
Dave was preceded in death by his father James Ragen II., nephew Parker Thomas Ragen, several aunts and uncles including Sonny, Dorothy, & Evelyn Gerwolls , and John and Florence (Gerwolls) Domigan, Dave was also preceded in death by Bill and Marian Huey, who encouraged him to succeed in life.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends on April 30, 2022 at Melton Hill Lake Marina, Oak Ridge, TN.
