Michael D. Tarbutton - November 27, 1954 - December 06, 2021

Departed: 12/06/2021 (Gaylord)
Obituary Preview: After a hard fought battle, a brief victory and sudden return of melanoma, Michael David Tarbutton, 67, of Frederic, passed away peacefully, on December 6, 2021 at home, surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Trenton, Michigan on November 27, 1954, Mike is the son of Don and Jeanette (Kujala) Tarbutton of Gaylord.  He graduated from Gaylord High School in 1972 and attended Northern Michigan University. Mike married Sandy Nowak on August 24, 1973. Together, they made their home and raised their 3 children, in Gaylord. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Cathedral.
Mike served as the Otsego County Parks and Recreation Director for 24 years.
It was the job he was made for and he spent his best years bringing imagination to life with new ways to improve the Parks and Community Center. He put his heart and soul into his work and it brought him such joy to be able to share that with his community. This was his greatest accomplishment, that ended with his deepest regret. Mike enjoyed sports, coaching, officiating, hunting, mushroom picking and camping. He was race director for the Mark Mellon Triathlon and Alpenfest Run for many years, along with several years of coaching at St Marys. It seemed as if the only pants he owned were his “regular sweatpants” and his “dress sweatpants.” Mike, or “Pa,” met the loves of his life, his grandchildren, as each came into the world and, of course, their “Bammy”, aka Sandy.  He had a fierce, unconditional love for his children and grandchildren and his favorite thing was to find a way to come to their rescue, which earned him the title, “Pa Patrol.” Mike loved spending time at his “Little House on the River” in Frederic.” He loved to show off his mushroom hunting and camper parking skills. Although, in recent years, he lost his mojo for backing up the camper and his family would remind him about the time he moved it with the sides and canopy still out. He had wonderful friendships from childhood that lasted a lifetime, which included an annual reunion football game, known as the “Toilet Bowl.”
Mike is survived by his parents, Don and Jeanette (Kujala) Tarbutton; his wife of 47 years, Sandy; His children, Melissa (David) Tallman, Annie Tarbutton-Robinette, Benjamin (Alyse) Tarbutton, Clint Robinette, Michalla Fader; his brother, Tim Tarbutton; his grandchildren, Brandy (A.J), Tyler (Chelsea), Cassie, Ariah, Remy, Knox and Rex; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his in-laws, Al and Pearl Nowak and his beloved dog, Gibbs, who went before him just a few weeks ago.

Barbara Ann Sanderson - January 12, 1962 - December 05, 2021

Departed: 12/05/2021 (Gaylord)
Obituary Preview: Barbara Ann Sanderson, 59 of Gaylord, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Detroit on January 12, 1962, she was the daughter of Jimmie Sanderson and Janet (Fryer) Sanderson Bershback.  She later moved to and was a longtime Gaylord resident.
After completing special education schooling, Barbara worked in the mail department at Crossroads Industries in Gaylord until 2015.  She loved school and working at Crossroads where she made many friends.
Barbara was a member of the Wyandot of Anderdon Tribe where her name was Waab Mee Gwanse meaning “Bright Star”, which she was to her family and many friends. When Barbie was born, we were told she might live to the age of 13.  Instead, we were blessed to have her until now, almost 60 years.  She has been the “Sunshine” in our lives, one of heavens very special children.  This poem perfectly describes the impact of Barbara’s life…
“A meeting was held quite far from earth.  It’s time again for another birth, said the angels to the Lord above…This special child will need much love, her progress may seem very slow, accomplishment she may not show.  And she’ll require extra care from the folks she meets down there.  She may not run or laugh or play, her thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways she won’t adapt and she’ll be known as handicapped.  So let’s be careful where she’s sent, we want her life to be content.
Please, Lord, find the folks who will do a special job for you.  They will not realize right away the leading part they’re asked to play.
But with this child sent from above goes stronger faith and richer love and soon they’ll know the privilege given in caring for this gift from heaven. This precious charge so meek and mild is “HEAVENS VERY SPECIAL CHILD.”
Barbara was blessed with her mom, Janet Bershback, who survives; and two dads, Jimmie Sanderson and later Donald Bershback, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is also survived by her siblings, for whom she had special names, Kenneth Sanderson (Kennie Arkansas), Lori (Daniel) Burgess (Lori Dorothy Letta), Rick Bershback (Dede), Sherry (Chris) Hauler (ShayKay), Debra (Mike Dunbar) Bershback (Bebie) and Michele (Roger) Drudge (My Shel); nieces and nephews, Christian, Jessica, Edward, Patrick, Rachel, Dana, Anne, Rick, Jason, Michele, Meghann, Lyndsay, Matthew and Dylan; 17 great nieces and nephews and 2 great great nephews.
Barbara’s family will remember her privately. Those who wish to honor her memory are asked to make memorial contributions to Crossroads Industries Client Activity Fund, P.O. 1337, Gaylord, MI 49734 or to the family.
Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages here on the "Tribute Wall".
