Vivian LaFrance Tanksley - March 01, 1924 - September 04, 2020

Departed: 09/04/2020 (Corpus Christi)
Obituary Preview: In the year when Ne-Hi soda was first invented, and after 3,300 years-King Tuts tomb was finally opened…It was the year of the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, a year when the average income was $2,196; A new car cost-$265; a new house sold for-$7,720; 1924-the year when a gallon of gas cost eleven cents and a loaf of bread could be bought for nine cents…Calvin Coolidge was president…future President Jimmy Carter and Don Knotts also known as Barney Fife were introduced to the world. Walt Disney created Alice’s Wonderland and the average life expectancy was fifty-four years and one month, a Baby girl was born in Topeka, Kansas to C.B. Doodlum Stewart and Bertha Cunningham Stewart. Her name was Vivian LaFrance.
Vivian was reared in Topeka, Kansas; where she attended public schools, and upon moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, there she attended school graduating from Solomon M. Coles. After graduating, Vivian went on to complete Beauty School as she called it, and worked as a beautician.
On February 5, 1944, she met and married Her Husband of 62 years-Mr. Alfred Lee Tanksley, and to this union Six Children were born.
Ms. Tanksley united with St. Paul United Methodist Church where she served tirelessly in Her Church. She was faithful in the choir, where she served in the capacity of President, as well as The President of The United Methodist Women for many years. She had a profound love for her church where her presence was felt and loved, as well as missed when her health no longer allowed her to attend. In life, Ms. Tanksley worked for Tom and Marilyn Billings who were the Proprietors of Billings Oil Company. They treated her like family. She was often fond of saying, for years she thought that she was family until she walked by the mirror…
Ms. Tanksley’s love for her family was exhibited in her daily life by the love and affection that was given to her by her children especially her baby son Philip Tanksley who stood by her side and took care of her until the day that she took her heavenly flight.
In Ninety-Six Years, the road was not always easy. The hills were sometimes hard to climb, the tears sometimes in spite of a smile, but all in all, Vivian was able to stand and endure. To witness the abolishment of Jim Crow, to come from the back of the bus to the front, but her heart was still content to sing, whate’er my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, with my soul.
On Friday, September 4, 2020, God saw the road was getting rough, and the hills hard to climb, so   he closed her weary eyelids, and sweet peace she did find. Waiting to meet Her at Heaven’s Gate was Her Parents, The Love of Her Life-Mr. Alfred Tanksley, Sr., An Aunt-Fannie Davis; Her Brother-James Stewart; Her Sister-Jessie Mae Bagwell; Her Daughter-Beverly Sue Winters; Her Grandson-Brent Tanksley; and Her GrandDaughter-Nataya LaFrance Tanksley. Obituary Preview: When I Must Leave You
When I must leave you for a little while Please do not grieve and shed wild tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start out bravely with a gallant smile But for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same.. Feed not your loneliness on empty days But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never, be afraid to die For I am waiting for you in the sky.. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamonds glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripening grain I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush. Of quiet birds in circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.. Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there; I did not die. I am home in heaven, dear ones Oh, so happy and so bright. There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over Every restless tossing passed. I am now at peace forever Safely home in heaven at least.

It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the life of the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also help to notify others of the passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or crematories may also offer assistance in writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and interests. It may also mention surviving family members, predeceased relatives, and any notable achievements or awards.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs.
