Obituary Preview: Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Dannie Nelson Cobb of 457 Wall St. Yanceyville, NC, who passed away on Wednesday, May 01, 2024, at his residence.

He was the son of the late George Hardin Cobb and Bessie Turner Cobb, born June 14, 1953. Dannie was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School class of 1971 and furthered his education receiving an associate degree in management from Rockingham Community College. He was an employee of UPS before retirement.

Dannie was a Member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church, where he found his greatest joy in serving his church community. He faithfully served as an usher, member of the Male Chorus, Inspirational Choir, and the Senior Choir. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and his love for God was evident in everything he did.

On July 29, 1978, Dannie entered Holy Matrimony with the love of his life, Penny Lea Cobb. Their union of 45 years was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Together, they raised a beautiful family and shared a bond that was a shining example of God’s love. Dannie cherished spending time with his beloved family. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a source of strength and support to all who knew him.

In his leisure time, Dannie found solace in the simplicity of nature. He loved nothing more than tending to his yard, meticulously cutting grass, and his home’s landscape. His green thumb and dedication to his home reflected his nurturing spirit and love for creation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Levander Cobb, Alvis Cobb, and Donial Cobb (his twin); one sister, Omega “Pete” Totten.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his wife, Penny Lea Cobb; two daughters, Cherita S. Williams of Alaska, and Danya Cobb Diggs (Paul) of Blanch, NC; one son, Brandon Nelson Cobb (Jasmine) of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Chloe Williams, Paul Diggs III, Zoey Diggs, Brandon Cobb Jr., and Jordan Cobb; four sisters, Gwen Harrelson (Stephen) of Reidsville, NC, Angela Cobb Graves (Joe) of Burlington, NC, Crystal Cobb Hall (Corey) of Reidsville, NC and Clementine Manley of Indiana; mother-in-law, Carolyn Lea of Blanch, NC; sisters-in-law, Wendy H. Lea-Walker (Dwight) of Raleigh, NC; Clara Frances Cobb of Reidsville, NC; nieces; nephews; two special lifelong friends of over fifty years, Casper Graves (Cathy) and Peggy Watlington (Fox) both of Reidsville, NC; and a host of other relatives, and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and grace.

As we mourn his passing, let us take comfort in knowing that Dannie has found eternal peace in the arms of his Savior. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire us all. Scripture: “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.” Matthew 25:23.

Born on December 31, 1964, in Alamance County, North Carolina; Della Mae was the daughter of Mr. James Howard Enock and the late Margaret Graves Enoch. She attended Caswell County Public Schools and graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School of “Class of 1983”.

She joined and became a Jones Cross Road Baptist Church member. Della Mae also was a former employee at Kayser - Roth Corporation in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Miss Della Mae Enoch leaves to cherish her precious memories to her two sons: Travis Stanfield, and Jeremiah Enoch of the home; her father, James Howard Enoch of Reidsville, North Carolina; one brother: Minister Ronnie Enoch (Juanice) of Morrisville, North Carolina; two sisters: Charlene Jeffries (Wilbert) of Reidsville, North Carolina and Linda Enoch of Greensboro, North Carolina; and two grandchildren: Xyla Stanfield and Xana Stanfield; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Obituary Preview: Blanch, NC - Mr. Dwight Edward Harrelson was born on August 25, 1960, to Annie Jeffers Harrelson and Willie Edward Harrelson in Alamance County (Burlington), North Carolina. He departed the earthly realm in Blanch, North Carolina on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Dwight attended Caswell County public schools in North Carolina. In high school, Dwight was a member of the French Club, African American Club, the Future Carpenters of America, and most significantly, the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America—a career and technical student organization. Overall, he was noted as an outstanding senior in sports—with special attention to his athleticism in basketball and track. It was a proud day for Dwight upon graduating from Bartlett-Yancey Senior High School in 1979.

Filled with Bronco Pride, Dwight continued his education at Fayetteville State University, a historically Black college and university. Shortly after that, Dwight was a textile employee at Burlington Industries. Dwight’s interest in the growing technological world sparked his ability to serve as a supervisor and uniquely solve machine-related issues. Over the years, Dwight was regarded as a man who enjoyed a hearty laugh, fishing, and the simple things in life. Dwight was preceded in death by his beloved, compassionate mother, Annie J. Harrelson.

Mr. Dwight E. Harrelson leaves to cherish his memories with his sister: Sheila H. Anderson and husband Cornelius Anderson of Riverdale, Maryland, and niece, Dr. Ashley N. Campbell, and her husband Dr. Lomax R. Campbell of Rochester, New York. In addition, his mother’s siblings a part of the earthly realm—Nora “Peggy” (Brown), Mattie, Mary (William Pace), James Sherman (Lillie), and Joseph (Lula)—and deceased—Moses, Polly (Cobb), Mitchell, Elmira (Pinnix), Earlin, Myrtle (Bradshaw), and Fred are cherished. In addition, his father’s siblings a part of the earthly realm and deceased—Alease (James Poteat), Betty Lou (Larry Curry), Cozy, Faye (Woods), Jerry (Edna), Kelly Carl, Robert Earl (Priscilla), Hubert (Lucille), Willie T., and Elmer are cherished. One of his favorite cousins, Jeffrey Pinnix (deceased). And a host of first, second, and third cousins, loving relatives, and friends.

Obituary Preview: Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Hattie Mae Poteat Lipscomb of Slade Road, Blanch, North Carolina. On the evening of Thursday, April 25, 2024; God Almighty in his perfect wisdom entered room 207 at the Caswell House in Yanceyville, North Carolina to call his child home.

Born on April 02, 1935, in Caswell County, North Carolina Hattie Mae was the daughter of the late John Wash and Alice Jane Rudd Poteat. She attended the local public schools and graduated from the Caswell Training School.

At an early age, she joined the High Rock Baptist Church and remained a member until God led her to Word of Faith Church; where she sang in the Adult Choir. Hattie Mae worked diligently there until God pressed upon her heart to help serve at Solid Rock Yanceyville Church; where she remained faithful until her declining health.

She was united with the late Harvey Chester Lipscomb in holy matrimony in 1955. They were blessed with six children to their union. Hattie Mae was a loving, kind, and sympathetic wife, mother, sister, neighbor, and friend. Her personality was the type who truly loved the Lord. She loved to sing His praises while beating her tambourine. She always had a word about the Lord, no matter “Where” and no matter with “Who”.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother: Isaiah Poteat; her grandson: Sandy Corbett III (Yum); her great-grandson: Troy Southern; and her two sons-in-law: Sandy Corbett, Jr. and Elder Curtis Jeffreys.

Deacon Oscar William Swann - May 13, 1933 - April 23, 2024

Obituary Preview: Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Deacon Oscar William Swann, 90 of 6526 Highway 86 South, Yanceyville, North Carolina; entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2024; at AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home in Burlington, North Carolina.

He was the son of the late Fletcher Swann, Sr., and Nannie Eugenia Coleman Swann; born on May 13, 1933, as a native of Caswell County, North Carolina.

Deacon Oscar Swann believed in serving the local church. He was an active member of High Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sung in the male chorus and senior choir. He also was an original member of the Legendary Silver Stars of Blanch, NC.

Not only did Deacon Swann serve his community as a member of the Leasburg Masonic Lodge 648, a founding member of the Jones Hunting Club, and one of the first employees of Fulton Funeral Home, but he also served our country with pride in the U.S. Army.

Known for his work ethic, Deacon Swann retired after serving as a supervisor for over 30 years at the Burlington Industries’ Williamsburg plant. While working full-time, he also managed his own farm.

Deacon Oscar Swann was predeceased by his beloved wife, Annie Odell Pickard Blackwell Swann, one son, John Henry Blackwell, and the following brothers and sisters: Suretha Swann Rone, Roy Swann, Clyde Swann, Fletcher Swann, Jr., Clara Anderson, Bernice White, and Florence Yellock.

He is survived by his three children, Larry Stephens (Mae) of Blanch, NC, Rex Blackwell (Gwendolyn) of Pelham, NC, and Brenda Williamson of Yanceyville, NC; two sisters, Inez Swann Lambert (Donald) of Yanceyville, NC, and Agnes Swann Mitchell of Mebane, NC and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives, and friends..

June was an employee of Fieldcrest Cannon in Eden, NC before retirement.

In addition to her parents, William Artis Sr. and Helen Hairston Artis, she was preceded in death by one son, Grover Cleveland Williams Jr.

Mr. Jerry Levi Lea Sr. - February 12, 1937 - April 07, 2024

Obituary Preview: Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Jerry Levi Lea Sr. of Yanceyville, NC, who passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his residence.

Affectionately known as “Lil’ Bruh,” Jerry Levi Lea, Sr. was born on February 12th, 1937, to John Lindsey Lea and Verbena Estella Love Lea in Caswell County, North Carolina.  After graduating at age 17 from Caswell County Training School, a while later he entered the United States Air Force.  After being honorably discharged, Jerry married the former Druscilla Rone.  And to this union was born four children.

While employed with what was then known as United States Gypsum (eventually known as International Paper), Jerry helped his Dad farm tobacco - even simultaneously farming and raising his own animals for many years – which he actually enjoyed.  Eventually, Jerry stopped the “side hustle” of farming and focused on other things.  He was an intelligent man who, in his spare time, tried to “fix the hard-to-fix” and come up with new ways to repurpose old items to make them useful again.  Jerry also was actively involved in his area’s voting precinct and believed everyone should take advantage of their right to vote.

From childhood, Jerry was a member of High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch, North Carolina.  He was an active member & a strong supporter of High Rock.  Jerry was also ordained as a deacon and served as the chair until 2004, when he decided, after much contemplation, to join Beulah Baptist Church to worship with his wife.  He loved Beulah, and he also continued to very much love High Rock.  And all who really knew Jerry knew that, as long as he was able, he supported all church activities and enjoyed doing so.

After over 35 years of employment with the same employer, Jerry retired and spent the last 25 years happily so.  And after a long life of 87 years, God called Jerry home – where he is now whole, well, and in the loving arms of Jesus.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Druscilla; his children:  Xieminia, Jerry Levi, Jr. (Katrina), Shana, and Tonia; a beloved granddaughter, Rian (whom he affectionately called “Hunk-A-Chunk”); one brother, William Houston (Sarah); a sister-in-law, Marjorie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents, John and Estella; and his brothers: John, Jr., Samuel, and Kenneth.

Deacon Willie Percell Robertson was born to the late Louvenia Robertson and Lemmie Wall in Yanceyville, North Carolina on September 27, 1954. He was the grandson of the late Robert "Bob" Roberts and Hattie Mae Candice McGhee Roberts. He was a faithful, dedicated member of Zion Gate Apostolic Church where he served as a Deacon and sang in the church choir. He loved to sing. One of his favorite songs was “Everyday Will Be Like Sunday.”

He was educated in the Caswell County School System and he was a 1976 graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School.

Before his declining health, he worked at the Thompson Family Farm and then Food Lion.

His favorite football and basketball sports teams were the “Dallas Cowboys” and the “Tarheels.” He also loved watching wrestling.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Robinson, and his brother, Woodrow Robinson.

Obituary Preview: Whitsett, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Minister Raymond McCoy Evans, Jr. of Yanceyville, North Carolina. Minister Raymond M. Evans, Jr., affectionately known as "Brother" age 66, was called to rest eternally in the house of the Lord on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, while resting peacefully at the Veterans Affairs Hospice Unit in Durham, North Carolina. Brother was born October 21, 1957, in Yanceyville, North Carolina. He was the third child of Raymond M. Evans, Sr., and Christine Gunn Evans.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his younger brother; Christopher Lee Evans.

After graduating from Bartlett Yancey High School, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army. There he served his country faithfully. He attended Big Ben Community College and retired from Red Onion Correctional Center in Pound, Virginia. Raymond accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Christine Gunn Evans, of Yanceyville, NC; two daughters, Daniela C. Evans, of Whitsett, NC, and Laura F. Evans, of York, PA; two grandsons, Paul Christian and Henry McCoy, both of Whitsett, NC; four sisters, Annie Evans and Barbara Evans, both of Yanceyville, NC, Eva E. Reston and Tara Evans, both of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Gregory Evans (Kathy), of Nottingham, MD; former wife, Inge Evans, of Gibsonville, NC; an uncle-in-law, Oscar L. Daniels, of Baltimore, MD; numerous nieces, one nephew, and other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving guests at the residence of his sister Barbara Evans  at  2694 Old North Carolina Highway 86 North, Yanceyville, NC.

Bobbie owned and operated Plunkett Auto on Highway 86 for many years.

He was a member of the United Holiness Worship Center for more than 40 years where he served faithfully. He was a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, president of the men’s ministry, and was an Elder.

In addition to his parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by his two sons: Anthony Metts and Kevin Metts; his sister: Luethel Graves; his brothers: Carl Plunkett, John Plunkett, Noel Plunkett, and William “Spider” Plunkett.

He leaves to cherish his memories; two sons, Angelo Hunt (Tia) of Bowie, MD, and Bruce Hunt of District Heights, MD; one daughter, Alexis Galloway of Yanceyville, NC; two sisters: Minister Bernice Plunkett Vincent of South Boston, VA  and Elder Joyce Plunkett Mitchell of Danville, VA; two brothers: Clarence McCain (Mary Louise) of Yanceyville, NC and Ronnie Plunkett of Kernersville, NC; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and his church family.

Thomas was born December 11, 1939, to the late Willie “Zack” Williams and Lou Della Mills Williams in Rockingham County, NC.

Thomas graduated from Booker T. Washington in Reidsville, NC in 1959. He received an Associate Degree in Business Administration and a certification in Brick Masonry from Piedmont Community College in Roxboro, NC.

He was a member of Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a former Trustee and an original founding member of the Male Chorus; he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber until he retired. Thomas served in the United States Navy four years and in the United States Air Force four years. He was Commander of Post 199 for years, until he took on the role of District Commander. Thomas was also a Mason.

Thomas loved fishing, especially deep-sea fishing, and he loved sports! He went to all the Reidsville Rams Football games until his health would not allow him anymore. Thomas was always willing to help family and people in the community anytime he saw a need, whether with small jobs or saving their home by assisting with mortgage payments - always in confidence. Although quiet and reserved, he never sugar-coated his conversations.

He loved watching The Young and The Restless, he would let you know not to call between the hours of 12:30PM - 1:30PM, unless it was an emergency.

Thomas had a very giving heart and exemplified 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver.” Because he was a cheerful giver, God rewarded and blessed everything he touched.

In addition to his parents, loved ones who preceded him in death are his wife Anita Williams, and two brothers, John Lee Williams and James Willie Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three sons, Maurice Williams (Shirley), Eden, NC, Keith Williams, Pelham, NC, and Dwayne Dejournette (Loretta), Pelham, NC; one daughter, Teresa Mae Easterling (Alex), Reidsville, NC; one brother, Howard Williams, South Carolina; one sister, Shirley Coates (John), Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Mattie Sue Williams, Brentwood, CA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his only first cousin on the Williams side, Cousin Vincent Abbott, Ruffin, NC. Thomas and his best friend, Woodrow James, were two peas in a pod; you would rarely see one without the other.

On Saturday morning, March 23, 2024, Naomi Lee Galloway departed this life at the Penn Center Nursing Facility in Reidsville, North Carolina.

Born on June 27, 1928, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, she was the offspring of the late Mary Adams Lee and Willie Lee, Jr. Embracing life with wisdom, perseverance, and enthusiasm, she faithfully and diligently served “Jehovah God.” On July 11, 1954, she was baptized and became a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Naomi was employed at Brookside Shirt Factory, Chase Bag, and Highgrove Long Term Care Center in Reidsville, North Carolina. Her favorite pastime was cooking for her family and friends. She was the best cook; always preparing delicious meals for the family. In addition, she loved gardening and watching game shows like “Family Feud” which was one of her favorites.

"Big Mama," as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was an incredible person. She loved life and never met a stranger, always with her beautiful smile. But, most of all she loved her family very much.

Throughout the years, she always reached out to family and friends when they were in a time of need. She impacted the lives of many, making her an inspiration to all. Her presence will truly be missed, but the wisdom and love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.

In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Onnie E. Galloway; her beloved daughter, Geraldean G. Robinson; and her grandson, Gregory L. Robinson.

Obituary Preview: Reidsville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Anthony Briscoe McLaughlin, Sr. better known as "Fuzzy", 76; passed on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Cone Health’s Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina.

Son of the late Wallace Jackson McLaughlin and Mary Turner McLaughlin Gwynn, he was born December 4, 1947, in Caswell County, North Carolina.

He graduated from Caswell County High School in 1965 and worked over the years at Associate Transport, Old Dominion, Pilot Freight, and most recently at GKN in Mebane, North Carolina, until his health forced him to retire in 2019. Anthony was known as the neighborhood mechanic and was the go-to guy for family and friends when their vehicles just weren’t acting right. He also slung a pretty mean hammer showing off his craftmanship building a cute playhouse with the arrival of his first granddaughter, small sheds, shelves, and other wood projects.

Anthony was a member of Jones Cross Road Missionary Baptist Church and was well-known in the community. Upon hearing of his death, many shared memories of “Fuzzy,” including his days of playing softball with the Gravestown team, his love for racing, fishing, and making children laugh when he did his “Donald Duck” impersonation. They also reminisced about the lineup of hot cars Fuzzy and his friends and family had over the years.

In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by two brothers: Willie Howard Graves, and Lacy “Buck” McLaughlin; and one sister: Vernell “Tootsie” Murray.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Betty Graves McLaughlin of the home; one son: Anthony McLaughlin Jr. (Nichole) of Knightdale, North Carolina; two daughters: Sheila McLaughlin of the home and Evelyn M. Douglas (Ray) of Raleigh, North Carolina; two brothers Grayling McLaughlin of Yanceyville, North Carolina; and Daryl McLaughlin, of Reidsville, North Carolina; three sisters: Vivian Jeffers of Yanceyville, North Carolina, Pauline Williamson (Reverend Tommy) of Reidsville, North Carolina, and Paulett M.
