Ruth V. MacDonald - July 22, 1927 - April 10, 2022

Departed: 04/10/2022 (Livingston)
Obituary Preview: Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruth MacDonald, 94, passed from the earthly world into God’s hands on Palm Sunday, April 10, 2022.
Ruth was born the third daughter of four to Andrew “Drew” Jackson Ball and Oma (Counts) Ball on July 22, 1927. Born in the family’s cabin home on Mill Creek, she grew up with a close relationship to nature, its beauty and might. Ruth attended the one room schoolhouse on Upper Mill Creek grades one through eight. Ruth and her sisters did in fact walk a mile to school and a mile home through all types of weather, good and bad. Ruth loved her teacher and her neighbors that lived up Mill Creek and remained lifelong friends.
The family then moved to Jardine where her father worked for the mine and Forest Service. Ruth attended Gardiner High School for three years where she lettered in girls’ basketball. Ruth worked summers at the Old Faithful Hamilton Store in Yellowstone Park. She was proud to say that she worked for Mr. C. Hamilton himself, and after paying room and board, was able to buy clothes she liked and jewelry from the Hamilton Store. Ruth then attended Park High School in Livingston for three years and graduated in 1945.
Ruth went to work for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph in Livingston as a switchboard operator, connecting calls with wires and plugs directly communicating with the caller saying “operator” or “number please” - a phone call to Paradise Valley was long distance! Ruth worked for Mountain Bell for 26 years ending her career at the level of office manager. It was in the early days of her working as an operator that she took her lunch break a short distance away at Wilcoxson’s Ice Cream and Candy Store. That was the day in January she met Alfred “Al” D. MacDonald and they shared a booth and a coke. Al invited Ruth to his parents’ house so he could play her a tune on the piano. They stopped at the Song Shop Music Store on the way, and he bought the sheet music for “Let it Snow”.  He played it for her over and over again and this is how their life together began.
Al and Ruth were married one sunny day May 28, 1946, at the First Baptist Church Parsonage by a Navy Chaplain filling in during the war years officiating. Al and Ruth went dancing their wedding night at the Melody Supper Club and continued their honeymoon spending a few nights in Yellowstone Park. Sixty-five years later when a nurse asked Al where he found such a sweet wife, without hesitation he replied, “Wilcoxson’s Candy Store!” Al and Ruth were blessed with two daughters Sally Ann and Vickie Lee. The family enjoyed camping with cousins and friends, swimming and picnicking at Chico (when you put your silver coin in the stylus to enter the pool), ice skating on the lagoon, and holidays and get togethers that always included Al playing piano or accordion.
Ruth was a wonderful cook and prepared meals and treats for all that gathered and were welcomed into her home. Bread making and baking pies and cakes was a love Ruth shared with her family and friends. Later she shared her baking secrets with each of her granddaughters that now carry on the beauty of proofing and kneading dough formed into rolls or loaves and baked to perfection. Ruth was a gifted seamstress, sewing everything from Barbie clothes to prom dresses and even costumes for the Firehouse Five’s stage production of The Sound of Music. Ruth had a natural gift for poetry and wrote beautiful poems on topics including her joy of baking bread, gardening, the birth of the first great-grandson, to the loss of her beloved husband, Al. Her words of life, love and death are insights to the depth of love she shared with her family and the environment. The flower garden was Ruth’s sanctuary. Ruth loved planting beautiful flowers placed among collected rocks and brickwork that Al arranged for her. Ruth loved chatting with folks that passed by her house admiring her flowers about the beautiful day. Ruth looked forward to the Park County Fair every year, reading the fair book front to back and circling the department and class in which she would enter her baking and cut flowers. Ruth was always proud of her blue ribbons and especially the fluffy purple that she regarded as the ultimate reward for her love of the garden.
Ruth was an Eastern Star for 26 years, volunteering for years at the Park County Blood Draw, Easter Seal fundraiser and worked as an election Judge for many years. Ruth was a member of the Park County Pioneer Society. Ruth will truly miss the Park County Pioneer Banquet in May with the gathering of old friends, sharing a meal, music, hugs and memories so dear to her. This year, the Pioneers will place a rose in the vase remembering her and the other Pioneer souls that have passed.  Ruth volunteered for the Livingston Shrine Clowns and events of the Livingston Masonic Lodge #32 A.F & A.M., giving many fun and challenging hours in the Shriners Clown Wagon and tent at the 4th of July rodeo, selling elephant ears (huge fry dough with butter, sugar, and cinnamon) and corn for the benefit of the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Spokane Washington. Ruth is a life member of Livingston Elks Lodge #246 from Al’s life membership where he moved through the chairs to Exalted Ruler and served as organist for many more years.
Ruth lived a huge, beautiful life and loved her children, granddaughters and great-grandsons with all her heart. Ruth is survived by daughters, Sally MacDonald, of Portland, ME, and Vickie Roseberry, of Thermopolis, WY; granddaughters, Kimberly MacDonald (Steve Gerlach), Kristin MacDonald (Chris Lambert) and Allison Lee Wrye; great-grandsons, Owen Alfred Douglas and Neil Thomas Douglas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alfred D. MacDonald; parents, Andrew and Oma Ball; sisters, Irene Gaibert, Ruby Collins and Pauline Pollock; and a great-grandson, Rylee James Douglas.
Services are pending at this time and will be announced.

Manuella Anna Maria Roberts - February 09, 1926 - April 02, 2022

Departed: 04/02/2022 (Livingston)
Obituary Preview: Manuella Anna Maria (Parisi) Roberts, AKA Micky, Ella, MaMa & Grandma Mickey Mouse, passed away, surrounded by family, at age 96 at Caslen Living Center on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
Micky was born in Livingston on February 9, 1926, to Marco and Natalina (Indendi) Parisi. She schooled in Livingston through her graduation from Park County High School. Following graduation, she worked in Livingston. One day, while covering at the Lott Hospital, a gentleman came in with a hand injury; she would go on to marry this man, Frank Roberts, Jr. on May 18,1947. And to clarify, he was the boy with the pickup truck.
They made their home in Livingston on M street. Frank worked for the Railroad and other than three years in Anaconda during a layoff, they resided in Livingston their entire lives. They were blessed with five wonderful children. She was “MaMa Roberts” to many more. Frank Passed away in 1991. Mickey remarried Archie Archambault with whom she spent 10 years traveling and enjoying retirement. Archie passed away in 2003.
Micky lived a life full of love. She was sweet and accommodating to everyone. Though she was a member of numerous groups around town and held odd jobs here and there, her true passion was caring for her family. She LOVED to cook and the more the merrier, if you asked her. She shared her love through the delicious meals she prepared. She’d often go to the Ranch in Geraldine and help Frank 3rd with lunches during branding season. One time she was about 10 minutes late bringing grub and was fired. The next week they rehired her, having to double her wage to bring her back. Frank then had to point out that double nothing is still nothing! One story that is dear to our hearts is when she was cooking 10lbs of spaghetti and needed to double the quantity, so she broke the noodles in half, “and made 20lbs.” She was so lovely and sweet, but we gave her a hard time for that one. Mickey also was well known for her crochet, of blankets, her much loved baby blankets and wash clothes. Mickey had recently been given an award by the Pioneer Society.
Micky lived a long and rewarding life. She leaves behind her children, Linda Wedel and her partner Rod Rhoads of Laurel, Frank Roberts and his wife, Mary of Geraldine, Geri Roberts of Livingston, and Greg Roberts and his wife, Billie of Livingston; Doug’s widow Gina Roberts. Grandchildren, Gator Wedel and his wife, Michelle Yeager, Chad Roberts and Jennifer, Kyle Roberts, Krystal Nimitz and her husband, Kirby, Barbara Roberts, Randi Johnson and her husband, Tanner, and Tanner Gunn Roberts; great-grandchildren, Allie, Nate, Rylie, John, Gatlin and Jace; great-great grands, Brooks and Bryce; she is survived by one brother, Marco, Jr. of Great-Falls. The family would also like to acknowledge the children Mickey gain by marriage (because we are Italian and you never really stop being family) daughter Holli Happe and son Dan Nowak.
Micky was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Doug who passed in 1991; siblings, Evelyn, Carolyn, Virginia, Tony, Jenny, John, Geri and Tino.
A funeral Mass will be held in honor of Micky on Friday, April 8th, 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. A celebration of life and reception will then be at the American Legion Hall, Park Post #23. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

She had the purest soul and truly enjoyed making everyone smile. Dorothy Lucille Hardin - November 15, 1919 - March 10, 2022

Departed: 03/10/2022 (Livingston)
Obituary Preview: Dorothy Lucille (Kimble) Hardin met her heavenly family on March 10, 2022 at the age of 102 years old. She was born on November 15, 1919 to Lloyd Kimble and Dollie Hendrix Kimble in Delphi, Indiana. Her mother passed early in Dorothy's life, she was raised by her father with 5 siblings, including Lyle, Monty, Orlie, Harold, and Ethel. All of them passing before Dorothy. She married Edd Hardin on October 5th 1940 in Kentucky, and they had one son W. Edward "Eddie" Hardin. Edd, Eddie and Eddie's wife Cheryl all pre-deceased Dorothy and greeted her as she made her final journey from this earth.Dorothy was a storyteller and loved to share the memories of her life with Edd and Eddie. She married Edd Hardin during one of the most challenging economic times. They didn't have the money to pay for the marriage license, so they crossed the state line into Kentucky to avoid paying the $3 as Dorothy would tell. Edd eventually became a builder of dams and traveled the world, sometimes with Dorothy and Eddie in tow. She was most fond of memories she had while Edd was building the Yellowtail Dam in Montana and the time she spent with her brother in the Missouri Breaks.Dorothy and Edd came to Paradise Valley in the early 1960s when Edd felt it was time for them to find a place they could call home. They made their way to Paradise Valley and bought a ranch on Elbow Creek that belonged to Charlie and Olive Kauffman. Charlie had passed and it was time for Olive to have a simpler life. Dorothy and Edd appeared at just the right time to purchase the ranch. What started as a purchase turned into a life-long friendship with Olive that Dorothy always cherished. Her first winter in Montana was a hard one. The snow was so deep they couldn't get off the ranch for 6 weeks. She and Edd learned the hard way that snowshoes and snowmobiles were essential tools if they were going to be ranchers in Montana. They were able to survive their first winter and many winters after that one. Dorothy and Edd owned and worked the ranch until they sold it in 1989. Her later years were spent looking at the mountains of Paradise Valley, a place she fell in love with in the 1960s and never forgot.Dorothy had a very full life and is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and many friends she made along the way. She will be sorely missed by all.If you want to honor Dorothy, her family and friends ask that you make a contribution to the Shriner's Hospital at https://lovetotherescue.org/ .Burial will take place at Shorthill Cemetery in Paradise Valley. We will meet at the cemetery Saturday, March 19 at 11:00 A.M. to honor her with a brief blessing.Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

A Masonic blessing and Veteran's honors will be presented at the church following the service. A reception and celebration of Ted's life will follow at the Livingston Elks Lodge #246, 130 S. 2nd Street.Ted was born September 27, 1943, in Miles City, Montana, to Wilbur T. and Iva L. (Matzen) Williams. He graduated from Custer County High School in 1961. After high school, Ted served in the U.S. Navy as a sonar operator for two years. Upon returning to Miles City, he worked for Tomalino's TV and Appliance. Ted married Katherine Yockim in 1966. They moved to Livingston, MT, in 1967 where Ted was employed at Western Plumbing and Heating as an appliance technician. Ted and Kathie had two children, Tony (1969) and Stephanie (1971). They divorced in 1973. Ted met Sandy Bell on a blind date in February 1973. They crashed a Valentine's dance at the Country Club and discovered that they had something in common - they both loved to dance! They were married just a few months later on August 4, 1973, and the dance lasted for 49 years! In 1980, Sandy adopted Tony and Steph. The family that was forged with love was deemed so legally by a judge. Ted and Sandy took in foster kids for several years. They had over 20 permanent and part-time placements. Some of them have stayed in touch. In many cases, Ted was the Dad they never had. Ted and Sandy purchased the appliance repair division of Western Plumbing and Heating from Gordon McGuire in 1974, opening Ted's Western Appliance. The business grew through the years. Other than a short partnership in the Appliance Place and The Forge, Ted's Western Appliance remained Ted's pride and joy. Ted's focus in life was helping people and being the best person he could be. He was awarded "Boss of the Year" and "Outstanding Young Man" by the Park County Jaycees; an appreciation award by Big Brothers and Sisters; "Citizen of the Year" by the Livingston Elks Lodge; "Outstanding Employer of the Year" by the National American Legion; and a thank you plaque from Livingston Meals on Wheels for 22 years of service. One award that he was especially proud of was being named one of the top ten service companies by Whirlpool Corporation. He was also an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church having served as Sr. Warden and Jr. Warden for many terms. Ted was an avid outdoorsman. Summers were spent camping at every opportunity. Tony and Steph and many of their friends churned the water at Dailey Lake and Newlan Creek Reservoir learning to water ski. Falls and winters were spent hunting, cross country skiing and snowmobiling with the kids and friends. The fun continued with taking the grandchildren, Chase and Talyn Campbell, camping and fishing. The time spent with them was cherished. Many fish were caught in many bodies of water - prize northern pike in Saskatchewan, walleye out of Fort Peck Reservoir, halibut in Alaska and marlin in the Gulf of Mexico. Ted did not discriminate -- he was active in both Trout and Walleyes Unlimited. Ted and two other members of the Upper Yellowstone Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited worked with Anita Brawner and Carol Goosey to start Kid's Day at Dailey Lake. This event grew from two 4th grade classes to all 4th graders in both Park and Sweetgrass Counties. He loved teaching those kids to fish! His adventures as a sportsman also included many hunting excursions for elk, deer, antelope, pheasant, wild turkey and gopher. Ted is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Tony, and his wife, Suzette; daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Jason Marjerison; grandchildren, Chase (Madi) and Talyn Campbell, Jacob (Cady), Tristan and Jerrika (Connor) Marjerison; son-in-law, Jesse Campbell (Brenda); sister, Karen (Bud) Williams; brother-in-law, Fred (Alta) Bell; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Engle; nephews, Andrew Williams, Pat (Denali) Lovely, Mike (Mona) Lovely and Chris (Jessie) Bell; nieces, Raegan (Chris) Stephens and Donelle (Shawn) Lund; a special aunt, Mary Matzen; many special cousins and grandnieces and nephews; as well as many, many dear friends and his beloved third Springer Spaniel, Jag. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Iva Williams; Sandy's parents, Jack and Mary Bell; several aunts and uncles; brother-in-law, Roger Engle; nephew, Dan Bell; and special canine kids Coco, Badger, Cracker, Hawk and Zeke. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Please share in memory of Ted to one of his favorite causes: Walleyes Unlimited Upper Yellowstone Chapter; Trout Unlimited Joe Brooks Chapter; or Meals on Wheels, 206 S Main St, Livingston, MT 59047.

Tammie Lee Dahl-Newman - October 02, 1957 - February 22, 2022

Departed: 02/22/2022 (Livingston)
Obituary Preview: "The stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach" (Terry Jacks) The family and friends of Tammie Dahl-Newman are sad to share the news of her passing on February 22, 2022. Tammie was a lovely enigma! She was a crafty poker and pool player, could dance all night, and loved rock hounding and looking for other treasures. Tammie was a diehard Denver Broncos fan - Christy Perkins reminisced how much she will miss the great rivalry between herself and Tammie when it came to Cowboys vs. Broncos games! Tammie lived most of her life in Montana. She was born in California in 1957 and the family moved back to Montana a year later. While living in Billings, her mother met and married Ron Dahl who immediately adopted Tammie and her brother, Scott Dahl. At the age of 3, Tammie met Pam (Herman) Jackson who would turn out to be her lifelong friend.  Pam recalled with fondness a time when Tammie and she would stand on Ron's feet to dance.  "It was such fun!"
Tammie’s family moved to Big Timber where she attended grade school until they moved to Bozeman. While in Bozeman, she finished middle school and attended Holy Rosary High School. Tammie worked at The Home Bake Shoppe & Deli, her family's bakery in Livingston, while she was in high school. In 1977, she had a cute little red headed daughter, Chantannell, and six years later her ginger boy, Jeremiah, was born. Tammie married Danial Newman on April 4, 1998. They chose this date because it was her mother's birthday. They opened the Fish Bowl on Main Street in Livingston with their friends, Rick Williams and Dan Medina. Tammie also worked at the Murray Bar and the Conoco Station, and for a short time in Las Vegas. One of her favorite jobs was as an Amazing Taxi driver. Tammie's personality, patience and ability to help others was perfect for this vocation. She lived up to what they say about red heads; feisty, strong willed and passionate! She loved with great fierceness!
Tammie is preceded death by Danial Newman, the love of her life; parents, Ronald and Janet Dahl; brother, William 'Scott' Dahl; grandparents, 'Papa' William Shirah and Elina Shirah; and her very good friend, Gary Perkins. She leaves behind her children, Chantannell Dahl and Jeremiah DuMolt; stepdaughters, Christy (Brent) Owen & Stephanie Pimentel; sisters, Rhonda (Allen) Mullins and Sheryl Dahl; sister-in-law, Sally Dahl; nieces and nephews, Monica and Justin Dahl, Jessy and York Mullins; as well as Gene Shirah, Jacqueline Todd, Ronnie Dunlap, Pam (Jess) Jackson, Christy Perkins, Melissa King and her kiddos, Sherrie Williams; and her birth father, Robert Allison. Reflection from Chantannell, "Your smile could light up a room. My love for music and dancing started with you. You taught me to stand up for myself (a lesson I am still learning) and girls can do whatever boys can do, most of the time better. Through your kindness I learned not to judge people by race, sexuality, income bracket, illness or education. Like a lost boy from Neverland you showed me you're never too old to play like a kid. You will be missed."
A memorial gathering is being planned for Summer.
