Elvis Vincent Colvin Norville - November 17, 1959 - April 19, 2022

Departed: 04/19/2022 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Wednesday, April 27, 2022 Wake Service link  https://youtu.be/hXX-UCAIcis Thursday, April 28, 2022 Funeral Mass https://youtu.be/HOqhtrbFilU
Elvis Vincent Colvin Norville born in St. Michael, Barbados was the last child of Vincent and Louise Norville (née Forte). He emigrated with his mother at the age of 13 to Brooklyn, New York where they were later joined by his father and older siblings. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Norma Lewis.
He graduated from Boys & Girls High School, studied at Brooklyn College, and Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology. Elvis began his life’s work as a pharmacy technician. He eventually joined the Navy performing two tours of duty from 1979 to 1988 and served on the USS aircraft carriers: Nimitz, Saratoga, Carl Vinson, and Independence achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class before being honorably discharged. After leaving the military he indulged his passion for flying by earning his small-plane pilot’s license at LaGuardia airport and was employed at Peerless Instruments from 1998 to 2022 working most recently as a Development Specialist.
Elvis’ love for God and his family were unparalleled. He was an avid worshiper at Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn under the leadership of Dr. A.R. Bernard for 24 years. He fulfilled many roles with a quiet determination, and each received his singular focus. He was a dedicated husband in a relationship that spanned thirty-nine years. Elvis drove Andrea batty with his exacting measurements when baking strawberry cheesecake or his famous sweet (coconut) bread and went on decluttering binges that meant she and the kids would find their belongings missing. Most of all he was a quiet and supportive father who enjoyed talks with Brian, bike rides with Machiah and long family trips.
Elvis’ sisters doted on their youngest sibling and spoke “brother” with a capital “B” often making comments like “I have not talked to my Brother today!” He enjoyed jokes and spending time with his nieces and nephews who were not much younger than him. Elvis was a diligent family man; he proactively encouraged the planning and execution of the annual summer picnics, often volunteering to arrive early to select the perfect spot when the park opened and championed the yearly apple and pumpkin picking trips. He coordinated volleyball, sack, and foot races, and was up for every game of Spades or Dominoes. He addressed all aspects of his life with logic and scientific precision; Elvis excelled at all his endeavors, he was kite maker extraordinaire, grill master, and a lover of deep-sea fishing. There were many years of hijinks and laughter with his cousin and friend Nicholas, he could often be seen in an intense and low-voiced huddle with Van Freeman, and regularly met with a like-minded group of men who were afficionados in the art of kite making.
Elvis is survived by his wife Andrea Herbert-Norville, children: Brian Norville and Machiah Norville, daughter-in-law Irene Norville, brothers: Keith Lewis, Rudy Layne, Tony Best, sisters: Myrtle Lewis, Monica Forte, Patricia Walcott, Margaret Evans, Ann Norville, and Heather Callendar, close friend and cousin Hillary Nicholls, God children: Christopher and Jasmine John, Briana Freeman, Sueshonna Norville, and Shavonte Roberts, mother-in-law Marcia Nurse, sisters-in-law Michelle Williams, Rose Best, and Carole Lewis, brothers-in-law Carl and Derrick Herbert, Aubrey Walcott, and Freddie Evans, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, an extended family of choice, long-time friends, and his couch buddy Atticus.
Elvis’ smile will be dearly missed, we consider ourselves fortunate to have had him in our lives. What remains are the bright, vibrant, and precious memories that will live on through all of us who had the distinct pleasure of knowing and loving him. May He Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory! Lovingly submitted by the family

Departed: 03/13/2022 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Pearl Ellerbee Moore was born on the 27th of January, 1928 in Bennettsville South Carolina.  She was the fifth daughter of the late Cornelius Ellerbee and Lottie Watson.  Pearl attended Marlboro High School in Bennettsville.  During her early years working in the fields of South Carolina, she was known to be a hard and industrious worker.  One of her sisters noted that Pearl was able to pick more than 400 pounds of cotton a day.  While still living on the farm Pearl met, and eventually married the late Clarence Moore.
During their marriage in Bennettsville, two sons were born to Pearl and Clarence; an older son, the late William Moore (who preceded her in death), and the younger surviving son Edward Moore. Pearl and Clarence eventually migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where, immediately after her arrival, Pearl began working in the garment district; she labored there until her retirement.
Not long after arriving in New York, Pearl and her two sons began attending the Holy Trinity Baptist Church under the late Reverend T.S. Harten.  Pearl was eventually baptized and remained a member until the death of pastor Harten.  In 1969 Pearl joined Faith Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Robert Hardman.  Pearl was a faithful worker in every church she attended.  She was a member of many church auxiliaries, was the chairperson of the Trustee Board, and held the honor of being designated the Church Mother.  A loving sister, spiritual and natural mother, cherished aunt, Pearl was one of the foundational leaders that united the Ellerbee family.  Her love, presence, and warmth will be missed by all.
Pearl leaves to celebrate her home-going one sister, Ramona Ellerbee Fields, a son, Edward Moore (and wife Edwina Moore). She also leaves grandsons, William Jhmar Moore, David Moore, Jason Moore, Paul Moore, and Edward W. Moore, Jr.; granddaughters Lisa Moore, Monique Moore, Shernita Moore-Glasgow, Stephanie Watkins; great grandchildren, Nikayla Moore, Jaylen Moore, Diana Moore, and Volorie Moore; goddaughter Antonia Williams, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, cousins-in-law, and Christian family.

Marlene E. Barker - March 25, 1935 - February 18, 2022

Departed: 02/18/2022 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Marlene Evelyn Peterson, the youngest of six children, was born on March 25, 1935 to Bertrum Harvey Peterson and Minnie Dempsey Peterson at St. John’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.  She attended Franklin K. Lane High School, but completed her education by enrolling in a school for training in accounting.  She became an expert bookkeeper and served in that capacity for more than thirty years at the Superior Linen and Fieldcrest companies.
Marlene met and fell in love with Marvin Lee Barker in her late teen years.  They married, and from their union, their only child, Denise Barker Jamison, was born.  Marlene and Marvin did go on to live separate lives, but they never divorced, and they remained friends until he died in 2005.
Marlene also remained close friends with her in-laws, and joined Zion Baptist Church where she sat next to her mother-in-law, Sammie Lee Barker, every Sunday, with her daughter, Niecy, by her side. Marlene loved Zion, and attended services regularly, serving as the Church Clerk and Sunday School Teacher for many years.
Marlene’s love for God and His word grew as she continued to serve in the church.  She eventually enrolled in New York Theological Seminary in Manhattan.  In May 1980, she graduated from the seminary with a degree in theology.  She was licensed by (the late) Rev. B.J. Lowry as an Evangelist, and became one of the first women to minister from the pulpit at Zion Baptist Church.
A woman of great faith, Evangelist Barker, was a gifted and anointed speaker.  Throughout her more than fifty years at Zion, she often wrote and presented many beautiful tributes honoring various members of the church, but she was best known and loved for her Sunday morning sermons.  Her messages were biblically sound and accurate.  They were also engaging and inspiring, always pointing the listener to the Savior and salvation.
Evangelist Barker not only taught and preached God’s word, but she also lived the word!  She was a kind and generous woman who gave of her time, talent and treasure to everyone she knew and to those in need.  She helped so many people in so many ways, but you would never hear it from Evangelist Barker.  She did not talk about the many acts of kindness and support she gave to people.  She let her good works speak for her instead. Evangelist Barker was not only known for her many charitable acts and inner beauty, but she was also admired for her physical beauty and her fabulous fashion sense.  A petite, shapely woman, Evangelist Barker was an unassuming beauty who was always dressed to the nines!
Some of the people who benefitted most from Evangelist Barker’s love and generosity were those of us in her own family.  On Friday, February 18, 2022, our mother, mother-in-love, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and lifelong friend, departed from this life and went to her eternal home in glory.  We will miss her, but will never forget her and the wonderful legacy of faith, family and love that she has left us.
Evangelist Barker will be cherished and remembered by her loving and devoted daughter, Denise (Roger); her sister Marie Wilson; three grandchildren: Rachel J. Hill (Rasheen), Sarah G. Jamison, M.D., and Matthew I. Jamison (Shavonne); three great-grandchildren: Zion E. Hill, Shiloh B. Hill and Arielle S. Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, several godchildren, and a very dear friend, Luther Lacks, among many other friends.

Alex was intensely introspective, but once you had the pleasure of knowing him, he had a warm and friendly personality with a very big heart, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was a diehard fan of both the New York Knicks and the New York Yankees, and had a true love for fishing which gave him great joy.  His departure was indeed way too soon.  He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
