Ellen Marie Caquelin - July 28, 1920 - May 11, 2019

Obituary Preview: Ellen Marie (House) Caquelin, the daughter of Jerry and Rose (Merritt) House, was born on July 28, 1920, in Jewell, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in Jewell and Webster City.
On May 20, 1939, Ellen was united in marriage with Maynard Caquelin in Minnesota.  The couple farmed in the Blairsburg and Woolstock area and they were blessed with four sons to help on the farm.  Maynard and Ellen retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Woolstock.  Maynard preceded her in death on April 10, 1998.
Ellen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, gambling, and bowling.
Ellen was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Woolstock and Eagle Grove, KYN Club and Senior Citizens in Woolstock.
Ellen passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City at the age of 98 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Richard (Dick) and Russell (Rusty) Caquelin; grandsons, Henry, Jeff and Greg Caquelin; sisters, Ione Gramblin and Avon Hoops and brother, Pete House.
Survivors include her sons, Gary Caquelin (Norma) of Fairmont, MN and Mike Caquelin of Rifle, CO; daughters-in-law, Connie Caquelin of Woolstock and RaeNae Caquelin of Manson; 11 grandchildren: Dale Caquelin (Donna), Brian Caquelin, David Caquelin (Tonya), Gary Caquelin (Melissa), Mindy Sassman (Kim), Tracy Johnson, Myra Choate (Dave), Angela Caquelin, Jennifer Caquelin, Lacey Cheeseman (Ryan) and Alexis Caquelin; 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove – New Location.  Burial will be in French Church Cemetery, Woolstock. Janice Anna Nickell - December 15, 1933 - April 27, 2019

Obituary Preview: Janice Anna Nickell, the daughter of Clarence and Naomi (Shackelford) Peterson, was born on December 15, 1933, in Hardy, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in Goldfield, graduating with the class of 1951.
On May 27, 1951, Janice was united in marriage with Lewis Nickell at the Open Bible Church in Eagle Grove.  The couple lived on a farm east of Eagle Grove and then moved into town in 1954.
Janice was a very busy homemaker and mom to 5 girls, she also worked as a Home Health Aide and for Cornell Deeny at D&B Motors.
Janice enjoyed crocheting, sewing, decorating cakes, playing the piano and doing puzzles and crosswords. Janice was a longtime member, Sunday school and Bible school teacher at the Open Bible Church.  She  has been attending Park Church of Christ since 2003.She
Janice passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Villa Care in Fort Dodge at the age of 85 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Michael David, daughter, Lynnette Nickell and brother, Richard Peterson.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Nickell of Eagle Grove;  daughters: Becky and Allen Porter of Mesquite, NV, Vicky and Stephen Adams of Goldfield, Elaine and Gene Van Grevenhof of Fort Dodge and Cheryl and Richard Jacobsen of Muscatine; five grandchildren: Jessica Burmeister Chris Adams, Shane Adams, Nicole Jacobsen and Tricia Jacobsen; nine great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Follmann and Leonard of Fairfield Bay, AR and sister-in-law, Judith Peterson of Eagle Grove.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Robert Dishman officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Kathy R. Lunda - August 30, 1939 - April 21, 2019

Obituary Preview: Katherine Ruby (Clair) Lunda, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Bernsmeier) Clair, was born on August 30, 1939, in Jewell, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Jewell High School “Class of 1957”.  Kathy worked at Woolworth’s in Webster City.
On August 20, 1960, Kathy was united in marriage to Marlin Lunda in Fort Dodge.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kathy enjoyed attending the congregation in Sioux City most of her life.  She also liked attending while they wintered in Tucson and currently in Clarion.  Kathy and her family enjoyed attending several conventions throughout the United States.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with family and friends – decorating many cakes for their special occasions.  She also loved nature, flowers and the Arizona desert.
Kathy lost her battle with Parkinson’s disease on Sunday, April 21, 2019, at the age of 79 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Louis.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Marlin Lunda; son Robert Lunda and sister Sherry Banwell (Leigh) all of Eagle Grove.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Sioux City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family

Ina Mae Skadburg - December 05, 1924 - April 14, 2019

Obituary Preview: Ina Mae Skadburg, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Tuttle) Spangler was born on December 5, 1924 at Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She graduated from Eagle Grove Community Schools in 1942.  Ina Mae was a lifelong member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church and Holmes Lutheran Church.
Ina Mae was united in marriage to Percy Skadburg on February 14, 1946 at Eagle Grove.  She and Percy farmed in Lake and Dayton Townships in Wright County from 1946-1981 when they moved to their home on West Broadway in Eagle Grove. Percy passed away in 2002.  In 2013 she moved to a duplex on Stockdale St in Eagle Grove.
Ina Mae served as a teacher in rural Wright County schools in Liberty and Dayton Townships from 1942-1946.  She also worked as a secretary for Asgrow in Clarion for 7 ½ years and worked for Erickson Manufacturing for five years.   She enjoyed camping, cooking, quilting, cross word puzzles, and puzzles, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Norman and wife, Erma of Fort Collins, CO, and Byron and wife, Cathy of Forsythe, MO; brothers Jack (Angie) and Abe Spangler of Eagle Grove and sister, Dorothy Buss of Mason City; nephew, Ron (Linda) Spangler of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Julie (Ted) Willis, Dallas Skadburg, Jill (Mike) Farmer, and Rachel (Andrew) Steenbock: and great grandchildren, Grace and Ben Willis. Braden and Addy Steenbock, and Makena and Elsa Farmer and many other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Ina Mae passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove at the age of 94 years.  Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; son, Duane Skadburg; brothers, Carroll Spangler, Arthur Spangler, Jr, and Kermit Spangler; and sisters, Clarice Carlson and Emma Jean Bloxham.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 10:30 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home 1115 SW 2nd Street Eagle Grove – New Location.  Burial in Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, Holmes.

Margaret Kay Wingert - October 29, 1953 - April 08, 2019

Obituary Preview: Margaret Kay Wingert, formerly Margaret Kay Smith was born on October 29, 1953 in Fort Dodge,Iowa and died April 8th. 2019 in Vancouver Canada, BC.  She was one of six children born to Wilbur G. Smith and Mary Wehrheim Smith. The family lived across from Sacred Heart Church and school in the 1950’s. Several of the children attended Sacred Heart school, and were members of Sacred Heart Church. Their house later was the rectory and later sold. Her mother, Mary Elizabeth Wehrheim tragically died in 1957 after which the family became separated for years. 1n 1981 the family was reunited in Denver thanks to John Henneberry a close family friend. He had promised her grandmother, the late Katherine Wehrheim, that he would find a way to have the family reunited and was a guest at that reunion in Denver. Margaret graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona Iowa. After graduation she stayed with her sister Jane in Denver and took care of Jane’s daughter Nicole.
Margaret eventually made her way to Oregon, Washington and eventually Vancouver B.C. In Canada she was a nanny for a doctor’s daughter and formed a deep relationship with the daughter, Kate, and the family. Margaret was plagued with many serious illnesses over her lifetime; the last one being cancer which took her life. She bore all her sufferings with little complaint. She was a cheerful loving sister and friend. She was always more concerned with others than herself. She loved God above all, and her siblings, Jane (Larry) Jagodzinski, James (Theresa) Smith, Nancy (Ron) Yelvington, Elizabeth(Tim) Check and Gary Jeffers. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A Memorial Mass was celebrated in Vancouver, Canada.  A funeral mass will be held on April 26, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove followed by graveside services at Calvary Cemetery.
Margaret will be buried with her mother Mary Elizabeth Wehrheim.

Marilyn Jean Anderson - December 11, 1944 - April 06, 2019

Obituary Preview: Marilyn Jean Anderson, the daughter of Floyd and Catherine (McKenna) Anderson, was born on December 11, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Eagle Grove and St. Mary’s School in Dubuque.
Marilyn lived at home with her parents, until moving into the Eagle Grove Group Home in the early 1980’s, where she spent many years until getting her own apartment.  Marilyn moved to Rotary Senior Living – South Building in 2011.
Marilyn spent many years going to Unlimited Opportunities in Clarion – which became Krylis, where she enjoyed many activities and outings.  She also worked in there Redemption Center and Krys’s Korner Thrift Store.  Marilyn liked attending the Special Olympics, listening to music, singing, reading books and reading to others.
Marilyn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  She always enjoyed spending time with her family and going to the Senior Center.
Marilyn passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 74 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Anderson.
Marilyn is survived by her sister-in-law, Julie Anderson; niece, Patricia Fredrickson and husband Charles of Green Bay, WI; nephew, Thomas Anderson, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Coral Springs, FL; great nephews and nieces, Andrew Fredrickson, Michael Fredrickson, Brittney Dennis, Alyssa Strain, Emily Anderson, Madeline Anderson and Logan Foster and great great-nephew and niece, Deklin and Isabella Strain.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jerry Blake, Celebrating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church with a Rosary at 1:00 p.m.  Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Jerold "Jerry" Eugene Kist - November 21, 1934 - April 05, 2019

Obituary Preview: Jerold Eugene Kist, the son of Eugene and Estaline (Smith) Kist, was born on November 21, 1934, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 1954”.  He served in the Iowa Army National Guard as an MP and cook for 8 years.
On November 27, 1955, Jerry was united in marriage with Joan Peterson at the South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent.  The couple made their home on a farm in Deer Creek Township for 5 years and then moved to the family farm south of Eagle Grove where they lived until 3 weeks ago when they moved to Wellington Assisted Living in Decorah.
Jerry farmed for many years; he retired in 1984 and then went to work for New Coop in Vincent for about 15 years.
Jerry loved his family, adored his grandchildren and cherished his great-grandchildren.  He was very proud of them all and enjoyed attending their sporting events and other activities.  He was a big wrestling fan – very supportive fan of the Eagle Grove Eagle’s and the Wartburg Knights.
Jerry was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, on the property committee and helped countless times in the kitchen.
Jerry passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Gunderson Health Systems in LaCrosse, WI at the age of 84 years old.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, James and Robert and sister, Mary Lou Johnson.
Survivors include his wife Joan Kist; children: Debra Kadolph (Allen) of Hubbard, Stephanie Marnin (Scott) of Decorah, David Kist (Anita) of Eagle Grove and Tom Kist (Theresa) of Eagle Grove; seven grandchildren: Kurtis Kadolph, Renae Mowrer, Michael Kist, Mark Kist, Eric Kist, Ashley Peterson and Rachel Johnson; six great-grandchildren: Gage, Pyper, Allyson, Trinity, Sydney, Ryder and two arriving late summer; siblings: Ronnie Kist and wife Janis of Dardanelle, AR, Rick Kist and wife Cam of Wausau, WI and Diane Gates and husband Dan of Ankeny and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with visitation one hour prior to service time.  Burial in Newark Township Cemetery in Vincent.

Heath Allen Chelesvig - February 05, 1971 - March 31, 2019

Obituary Preview: Heath Allen Chelesvig, the son of Charles “Chuck” and Evelyn (Capsel) Chelesvig, was born on February 5, 1971 (during a blizzard) in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 1989”, where he was active in football, wrestling, track, baseball, 4-H and FFA.  Heath then attended Luther College for one year before transferring to U.N.I., where he received his Bachelor Of Arts Degree.  He received his Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University and was working on his Doctorate Degree at Western Michigan University.
In 1994, Heath married Trefny Bildner at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and they had three children: Hans, Kjerstin and Kari.  They made their home in Iowa City, Stillwater, OK and Caledonia, MI.
Heath worked as a Conference Coordinator for IGSHPA, mentored students through a grant program at Davenport University and was an Institutional Researcher at Grand Rapids Community College. Heath was a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church.  He loved his children very much. He also enjoyed college wrestling, reading and education – he had a great appreciation for learning!
Heath passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the age of 48 years.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Chuck.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Chelesvig of Eagle Grove; children: Hans Chelesvig ,who is attending college at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor and Kjerstin and Kari Chelesvig of Saugatuck, MI; sister, Heidi Hudson and her husband Bob and their son Jake of Bakersfield, CA; brother, Tim Chelesvig and wife Jill and their daughter Landry of Cedar Falls and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Charlie S. Powell - December 19, 1953 - March 29, 2019

Obituary Preview: Charles Steven Powell, the son of Charles J. and MaryAnn (Umthun) Powell, was born on December 19, 1953, in Rock Island, Illinois.  He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, attending Sacred Heart School and graduated from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 1973”.
Charlie trucked all of his life, with over 3.5 million miles under his belt.    He was a company driver for many years and later was an Owner-Operator.
Charlie loved good music, motorcycles, racing, the Chicago Cubs, fishing, grilling out and spending quality time with family and friends.  He was a history buff and a music aficionado – he knew all the music legends and the best albums.  He was definitely a “Funcle” (Fun Uncle) and a “PUNK” (Professional Uncle No Kids) to Jarrod, Jared, Katie, Michael, Louis and Andrew and those he “adopted” Ryan, Randy, Casey, Brett, Shawn, Cody, Sarah, Donavon, Gary and Ashley.  He loved kids and was devoted to his family – by blood and “adoption”. Charlie was a big guy with an even bigger heart – generous to a fault – never turning down anyone who asked for anything.  He always stood up for the little guy and would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it.  Charlie was a gentlemen to the core – a genuine “good guy” who will be greatly missed by all.  His laid-back, easy going personality made him a joy to be around and his sense of humor will never be forgotten – his quips, jokes, one liners and life experiences!
Charlie passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation, from liver cancer, at the age of 65 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kevin and Brian and brother-in-law, Henry.
Survivors include his niece and nephews; brothers, Rick and Joe; sister, Ann; step nephew and nieces, Clint, Katrina and Lindsey; his “Tight Circle”, Rick and Shelly Ristau, Dan “Zat” and Whitney Zatlukal, Johnny Peterson and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jerry Blake, Celebrating.  Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the Parish Hall.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph Earl Kelling - February 11, 1946 - March 19, 2019

Obituary Preview: Joseph “ Joe” Earl Kelling, age 73, of Eagle Grove, Iowa left this world to join his heavenly father Tuesday, March 19, 2019. He was born on February 11, 1946, in Clarion, Iowa to George Martin and Lula Ruth (Beer) Kelling. He is survived by his wife Marsha Kelling; three daughters: Traci Lynn LaBoy, Tiffany Lee Mosher (Dan) and Terri June Torkelson (Robert); six grandchildren: Ana, Tony, Melissa, Mackenzie, Maci and Michael; and brother, Richard Kelling (Kathy).  He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lula; twin sisters, Irene Fitz and Ilene Gardalan and brothers, Charles, Raymond, George JR. and Robert.
Joe graduated from Clarion High School in 1964 and shortly after went on to serve in the United States Army from November 1967 to February 1970. Upon his honorable discharge from the army, he met the love of his life, Marsha, who was working at the draft board at the time. Their inseparable bond began when she completed his discharge papers to let him out of the service.
On December 18, 1970, Joe married Marsha Carter at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and continued to be faithful members at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, until they moved to Windsor Manor in Webster City in July 2017.
As a devoted family man, Joe worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family. After his father’s passing, Joe began his first job, at the age of eight, working at the bowling alley setting up pins for $0.12 a line. After the military, Joe worked for the Rail Road for a short time, before his career of over 24 years as Office Manager at Boone Valley Implement which later became Farmland Industries. Joe worked several part-time jobs throughout his life, always staying busy to provide for his wife and girls.
Joe had a variety of different interests. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing card games –like 500 and cribbage. But most of all, Joe lived his life to take care of his wife, Marsha, and always strived to see his children and grandchildren happy.  Joe always had a smile on his face and a joke up his sleeve, using his innate sense of humor to make those around him laugh.
Joe filled the hearts of those around him with love and laughter.  He was good-natured, steady and the best kind of stubborn.  Joe was a loyal husband, loving father and grandfather, and a steadfast leader for his family.  Joe will be deeply missed by those who were privileged enough to spend time with him.
Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jerry Blake, Celebrating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service time in the Parrish Hall with a Rosary service at 9:00 a.m. Memorials will be donated in Joe’s honor to fund Parkinson’s Research

Brandon Lee Snyder - April 01, 1982 - March 15, 2019

He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 2000”. He attended ICCC in Fort Dodge and worked at Tate&Lyle and was transferred to the Tate&Lyle plant in West Lafayette, Indiana in 2009. He was a Licensed Waste Water Technologist, owning and operating A1WW Consulting and was working for Heritage in Indianapolis.
Brandon was a true outdoorsman! – he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and camping. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughters and friends.
Brandon passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Franciscan Health Center in Lafayette, at the age of 36 years old. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carl Snyder; grandmother, Mary Gray; uncle, Rick Snyder and several other aunts and uncles.
Brandon is survived by his daughters, Drew Emily, Graceyn Elaine and Brylee Jean; parents, Garry and Norma Snyder of Eagle Grove; brother, Garry Snyder, Jr. (Tasha Grandgeorge) of Goldfield; grandmother, Bonnie Snyder of Goldfield; niece, Kendall Snyder; great-niece, Aubrey and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Larry Jene Holding - March 04, 1934 - March 10, 2019

Obituary Preview: Larry Jene Holding, the son of Clifford and Georgia Rae (Allen) Holding, was born on March 4, 1934, in Burt, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Burt High School “Class of 1952”. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Peru State College, Peru Nebraska in 1968 and his Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1969.
On July 21, 1951 he married Palma Joy Olson at the Methodist Church in Corwith, Iowa. Larry was an independent distributor for Borden Dairy Company from 1957 to 1965 before starting college. After college graduation Larry taught and coached at Southeast Consolidated High School in Stella Nebraska for nine years before moving to Iowa where he was Guidance Counselor and Athletic Director at Clarion-Goldfield Schools for 19 years. He retired in 1996 to care for his wife, “Sweetie” as he lovingly referred to her to friends and family for the next 22 years until her passing.
Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church and Eagle Grove Masonic Lodge. Larry’s hobbies included playing golf, poker, any other card game known, and taking trips to visit children and grandchildren participating in many academic and sporting events county wide.   He also loved attending the College World Series in Omaha NE was among his and Palma Joy’s favorite yearly trips.
Larry passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the “Landing at Watermere” in Frisco Texas, at the age of 85 years old. He was preceded in death by; his wife, Palma Joy; father, Clifford; mother, Georgia; step-mother, Velma Holding; father-in-law Paul Olson; brother, Kaye Holding and his wife Eileen and nephews, Bruce Olson and Bruce Holding Jr. Survivors include his four children: Valarie Andrew (Mike) of Oak Point TX, Brad Holding (Terry Meyer) of Eagle Grove IA, Brenda Lessor (Denis) of Kansas City MO, and Vaughn Holding (Linda) of Ayr NE; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Holding (Diane) of Montana; brothers-in-law, Ladell Olson (Judy) of Eagle Grove IA and Larry Lynn Olson (Nancy) of Conrad IA and many more family members

Doris Faye Porter - September 05, 1923 - March 10, 2019

Obituary Preview: Doris Faye (Waggoner) Porter, the daughter of George and Urcil Joy (Cobb) Waggoner, was born on September 5, 1923, in Sutherland, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Sutherland High School in 1941.
On July 7, 1946, Doris married Kenneth R. Porter in Sutherland.  The couple lived in Mt. Pleasant, Des Moines, Sibley and moved to Eagle Grove in 1953.  In 1978, they purchased a cabin on Mule Lake in Longville, MN, where they spent 4 happy summers together before he preceded her in death on August 5, 1982.  She continued to spend her summers there for many years.
Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and Rachel Circle.  She also belonged to a group of close friends called the “Koffee Klatch”, they would gather for coffee and friendship.  Doris enjoyed golfing, tennis, bowling, cards (500/Bridge), bird watching and she was an avid sports fan.  She loved to watch all sports on T.V. and would keep stats on many games and series.  She enjoyed being with her grand and great-grandchildren and her Dorothy’s, Dorothy Middleton and Dorothy Larsen.
Doris passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 95 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Porter in 1984; brothers, Burdette Waggoner and Harriet and Delmer Waggoner and Mary; nephew, Dick Waggoner; brothers-in-law, Walter “Bud” Porter and Iva Lee,  Gene Porter and Grace, Clarence Porter and Dorothy and Keith McCreery and sister-in-law, Mildred Coffee and Bob.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Alice Pendergast of Des Moines and Carol Porter of Eagle Grove; son, Gary Porter (Gretchen) of Grinnell; daughter-in-law, Barb Porter of Montana; five grandchildren: Melissa Dykes (Christopher), Kristin Porter, Stephen Porter (Kate), Tim Pendergast (Brook) and Mike Pendergast; four great-grandchildren: Alex Pendergast, Thaddeaus Dykes, Ellaliyah Dykes and Kenley Porter; sister-in-law, Marion McCreery of Sigourney and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday March 22, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor James Roth officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.

Obituary Preview: Martha “Sue” (Raisor) Lutz, the daughter of Robert and Ada (Richardson) Raisor, was born on April 15, 1944, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  She was raised and educated in the area of her birth.
In 1962, Sue married Hoover Hicks in Kentucky.  He preceded her in death in 2004.
Sue worked as a waitress for many years - her favorite place she worked was the Red Lobster in Indianapolis – near the race track.
Sue was always extremely busy sewing and cooking as she raised 11 children.  She was very selfless – her life revolved around her children, grandchildren or anyone who was in need.
Sue moved to Rotary Senior living in July of 2017 – after her daughter relocated to Eagle Grove from North Carolina.
Sue passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 74 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; nine children: Connie, Rusty, Hughy, Lonnie, Grace, Gene, Hugo, Henry and Hank and granddaughter, Hailey Huntley.
Sue is survived by her daughters, T.J. (Tonjala) Huntley (Les) of Eagle Grove and Bonnie Lucas of Indianapolis, IN; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Raisor (Maria) of Indianapolis, IN and Danny Raisor of Phoenix, AZ and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 14, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a service at 6:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jason Cooper, officiating.  Refreshments will follow in the church basement.

On October 14, 1952, Jim was united in marriage with Thelma Oldson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.
Jim worked for Boone Valley Coop and the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad for 40 plus years.
Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.  Jim enjoyed working on cars and watching Nascar and other Races.  He loved dogs and working on his home and in his yard.
Jim passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 88 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cecil “Bud” Kepler and sisters, Bernadine Voss and Marge Hogan.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Thelma; sons, Bruce Kepler of Eagle Grove, Jim Kepler (Dani) of Des Moines and Pat Kepler (Karen) of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Kelli Kepler and her daughter of Johnston; sisters, Sara Noss of Dougherty and Lorraine Eikenberry of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Jerry Blake officiating.  Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the church.   Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

On June 13, 1965, Chris married Charlie Boyer at the Goldfield United Methodist Church.  They lived on a farm north of Eagle Grove for one year and then moved to town.
Chris worked for the Eagle Grove Middle School as a cook and for Meredith Corp/EDS in Clarion, she retired on November 30, 2007. Chris enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, doing puzzles, reading and listening to music, especially Elvis!
Chris passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, at the age of 72.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie in 2005 and brothers, Ron and Ken Thompson.

Greg D. Block - July 06, 1957 - February 08, 2019

Obituary Preview: Gregory Dean Block, the son of Russell and Donna (Rule) Block, was born on July 6th, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa. Greg spent his childhood in Webster City where he graduated from Webster City High School.
He worked for his dad at Block Oil Company, went to college at Ellsworth Community College and went to the United States Air Force in 1976. While in the Air Force, Greg was united in marriage with Frances Stanaitis in 1979 and they had two children, Justin and Deanna, before their divorce in 1988.
Greg met Cyndi (Spangler) Hennigar in February of 1988 and spent the last 31 years together before his death. Greg and Cyndi married on February 6th, 2019 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, as Greg's last wishes.
Greg spent his last 28 years living outside of Livermore with Cyndi on their farm where he spent a lot of time with his animals that he cherished.
He was a long time Abate of Iowa District 10 member and served 22 years on the Livermore Fire Department.
He worked for Martin Farms for several years prior to his battle with cancer.
Greg was an avid motorcycle rider and couldn’t wait for The Abate Freedom Rally every summer. His favorite football team was the Chicago Bears.
He had a great love for his children and grandchildren and always looked forward to them coming to the farm to visit with him and play with all the animals. Greg passed away on February 8th, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, after a battle with cancer, at the age of 61 years. He is was preceded in death by his parents
Greg is survived by his wife Cynthia Block of Livermore; children, Justin (Abigail) Block of Ames and Deanna Block of Fort Dodge; step-children: Shyane (Amy) Hennigar of Clarion, Mike (Kellie) Hennigar of Eagle Grove and Dan (Danielle) Hennigar of Clarion; four grandchildren: Samantha, Emily, Quinn and Justice; ten step-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Lori) Block of Cedar Falls and Jeff (Sue) Block of Grayslake, IL; four nephews; one niece and numerous other family and friends.

Darcia Mae Christensen - August 06, 1925 - February 08, 2019

Obituary Preview: Darcia Mae (Olson) Christensen was born to Loyd Oscar Olson and Nora Marinda (Ranum) Olson on the family farm outside of Goldfield, Iowa on August 6, 1925.  She was born and raised in the house that her grandfather built and where her father was born.  Darcia attended Norway Township country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1942.  She then attended Des Moines American Institute of Business (AIB).
Like many others during WWII, Darcia and some other local girls moved to Los Angeles to work in an aircraft assembly plant.
In 1949, Darcia married Vernon E. Christensen at the Methodist Church in Goldfield.  They had one son, Jim.  They farmed north of Eagle Grove until they retired in 1987.  The two of them enjoyed traveling across the US including the Black Hills, Alaska, Utah, Minnesota and 25 winters on South Padre Island.  Along the way of many of their trips, they would visit Jim in Kansas City to see the Plaza lights and eat barbecue.  They also had fun going abroad to Europe, including Norway for a couple of her family reunions called ‘Cousin Connection’.  Darcia loved the annual Cousin Connection get together where her family gathered together in Iowa with Norwegian cousins joining some years.
Darcia worked for Boone Valley Cooperative, yet spent most of her career as the secretary for the Board of Education in Eagle Grove for over 25 years.  She was an active member of the Association of School Business Officials, serving in various officer positions.  Her involvement also gave her an opportunity to travel to many places in the US.
Darcia was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle.  She loved to play bridge, playing several times in a week and she was a true sports fan – cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes (and her sons Cyclones if they were not playing the Hawks), Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Royals.
Darcia passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the Paula Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge at the age of 93 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon “Chris” in 2007; sister, Betty Lou Young and sister-in-law, Margaret Bennett (Howard).
Survivors include her son, Jim Christensen and wife Dawn of Kansas City, MO and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.  A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.  Refreshments will follow in the South Building Lobby – Rotary Senior Living.

Merline married the love of her life, Eddie Petersen on October 2, 1943 in Galesburg, Illinois.
Merline was a great Homemaker to their six children, and also enjoyed many years working in the Social field for Your Inc and the Department of Human Services in Clarion.  She also enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends of her many adventures and experiences moving around with the family to California, Oregon, Idaho and Iowa.
Merline passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Rotary Senior Living, at the age of 95 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie; son, Franklin Edward Petersen; grandson, Christopher Petersen; brothers, Gilbert and Donald Miller and sisters, Dorothy Gose and Lucille Johnson.
Merline is survived by her two sons, Morris Petersen and wife Melinda of Goldfield and Roger Petersen and wife Eva of Wooster, OH; three daughters, Virginia Pina and husband Horace of San Diego, CA, Gloria Wilson and husband Rod of Bozeman, MT and Mary Greif and husband Gordon of Eagle Grove and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Richard "Dick" Harold Dyas - October 16, 1924 - February 03, 2019

Obituary Preview: Richard Harold Dyas was born on October 16, 1924, in Andrew, Iowa, the son of Roy William and Mary Elizabeth (Weirick) Dyas.  He grew up on his family’s farm, graduated from Andrew High School in 1942, and served in the Air Force as a navigator during World War II.  Following his military service, Richard attended Iowa State University and earned bachelor and master degrees in education and psychology.
Richard had a long career as a highly regarded teacher and counselor, having taught in Jordan and Ellsworth prior to moving to Eagle Grove in 1958.  He was the guidance counselor and taught psychology for both the high school and junior college until 1967 when he became the counselor for Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove.  He was also the Coordinator for the Eagle Grove campus for seven years before he retired in 1987.
He was united in marriage to Annis McCart on July 23, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and they shared 68 years together until Annis’ death last month.  They lived in Ames and Jewell prior to Eagle Grove.
Richard was an active member of the community, including his involvement with Lions Club, Dollars for Scholars and as a member of the United Methodist Church.
Richard passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Rotary Senior Living, at the age of 94 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Annis McCart Dyas, and brothers Thomas and Robert.  He is survived by daughter, Sue Johenning (Jeb) of Beverly Hills, CA; son, Jim Dyas of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jimmy Johenning (Meghan) of Los Angeles, CA, and Sara Johenning of New York, NY; brother John W. Dyas of Andrew, IA; nephews Richard Dyas, Willard Dyas and John R. Dyas, and niece Sandra Dyas.

Connie K. Kraft - September 06, 1929 - January 23, 2019

Obituary Preview: Cornelia “Connie” Kathryn Stearns, the daughter of Frank and May Fern (Hoiser), was born on September 6, 1929, in Plover, Iowa. She was raised in the Plover area and graduated from Manson Schools and for a brief time attended beauty school.
On March 12, 1950, Connie was united in marriage with George W. Kraft in Manson.  The couple established their home in Goldfield where she was a homemaker and worked as a waitress in several local area restaurants.
Connie was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, where she taught Sunday school, participated in U.M.W. and helped with mission sewing projects.  She was a member of the Eagle Grove Chorale, Goldfield’s So-Sew Club and helped with Congregate Meals in Goldfield.
Connie loved being with her family, gardening, cooking, baking (especially bread), canning, quilting, sewing and embroidering.  She also enjoyed taking care of the farm animals, her pets and feeding and watching the deer and birds.  Connie was especially proud of her Christmas cactuses.
Connie passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at the Paula Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, at the age of 89 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; seven sisters, Olive Stearns (in infancy), Eunice Maulsby, Florence Dickinson, June Hotovec, Betty Sease, Dorcas Brazier and Rachel Freeman and four brothers, Clarence, Paul, Frank Jr. and Alan.
Connie is survived by her three sons: Mike Kraft (Diane), Greg Kraft (Ramona) and Roy Kraft (Jodi), all of Goldfield; four grandchildren: Joanna Carlson (Ben), Daniel Kraft (Nicole Roth), Sarah Kraft and Jenna Kraft; two sisters: Joy Sorensen of Goldfield and Jackie Hudson of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law: Betty Stearns of Gilmore City  and Nadene Nutter of Shelton, NE and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Hope M. Kuecker - December 28, 1931 - January 13, 2019

Obituary Preview: Hope Moellering Kuecker, the daughter of Albert and Marion (Trask) Moellering, was born on December 28, 1931, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1949 and then received her B.S. in Home Economics and Education from Iowa State University in 1953.   Hope then worked as an Extension Home Economist in Butler and Palo Alto Counties.
On March 20, 1954, Hope was united in marriage with Willis “Bill” Kuecker and to this union six children were born.  They were a hard-working, committed farm family – she and Bill started farming together in 1956 – having farmed in Kossuth, Webster and Wright Counties – and was extremely proud to have farmed the Century Farm near Eagle Grove that had been in her family since the 1860’s. They raised livestock and numerous specialty crops, including pumpkins, gourds, strawberries, asparagus and of course the “famous” Kuecker Sweet Corn!  She was a nurturing person who took great care and pride in growing things, being very conscious of the quality of everything they produced.
Hope was an active, long time member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod Lutheran in Eagle Grove and enjoyed caring for the flowers and other decorations inside and outside the church.   In 1979 she renewed her teaching degree at Iowa State and used her degree while substitute teaching until 2006.
Hope had a lifelong love of reading, poetry and art.  She painted, wrote poetry and created decorative art and shared these passions with family and friends.
Hope passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2018, at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls, at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 2014; son-in-law, Kirk Klassen and sisters, Alberta Churchill and Judith Cameron.
Hope is survived by her six children: Susan Kuecker (Jim Graham), Sara Kohl (Steve), Sharon Klassen, Barbara Fleischman (Jim), William Kuecker (Connie) and Benjamin Kuecker (Shavonta); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sister, Dorothy Russell.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mark Peterson officiating.  Visitation is from 9:30 until service time at the church.  Internment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, IA.

On October 16, 1955, Lillian was united in marriage with Donald H. Christensen.  They lived their entire married life on a farm east of Eagle Grove and were blessed with three sons and one daughter: Michael, Richard, Gary and Lisa.
Lillian was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church – serving as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, children’s choir director and helped serve numerous funeral luncheons.  She was a Cub Scout den mother and 4-H leader and she also loved to sew, knit and crochet – making many prayer shawls for others.
Lillian was employed at ICCC, Christensen Motors, First Miss – IMC fertilizer plant and Gold-Eagle Coop, retiring in 2002.
Lillian and Don enjoyed many camping trips to the mountains with their family.  A cabin in Minnesota was their favorite relaxing and fishing spot.
Lillian passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the age of 80 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 2010; son, Michael in 2015; brother, Carroll “Curly” Ernst and sisters, Blanche Wallace (Marvin) and Esther Hauck (Bud).
Survivors include her sons, Richard Christensen and wife Jessica of Eagle Grove and Gary Christensen and wife Paula of Cottage Grove, MN; daughter, Lisa Johnson and husband Brad of Shawnee, KS; twelve wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred “Mickey: Schmidt of Greeley, CO; a special niece, Sharon Fontana of Humboldt; daughter-in-law, Pam Christensen of Eagle Grove and sisters-in-law, Kathryn Ernst of Humboldt and Mary Ellen Christensen of Eagle Grove.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
