Ronald J. Corcoran - February 25, 1948 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: On April 13, 2024, Ronald James Corcoran passed away surrounded by family and dear friends after a year-long battle with cancer. Ronald was born February 25, 1948 to Donald and Myrtle (Walters) Corcoran of Ettrick, WI. The youngest son of the seven Corcoran kids and by all accounts the naughtiest, he was always teasing and getting a laugh.

Ronald graduated from G-E-T High School and was drafted for the Vietnam War in 1968. He attended Army basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he was then stationed near Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam with the 1st Calvary/7th Infantry. On December 23, 1968, Ronald was severely burned in a mortar explosion that occurred during a battle. He was soon airlifted to the 106th Army General Hospital in Yokohama, Japan where he was treated at the burn center. When he was healthy enough, he finished out his tour in Fort Collins, Colorado.

A master of wit and humor, these qualities captivated a beautiful blond woman named Bonnie L. Larsen upon his return to Ettrick. They were united in marriage on September 8, 1973 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ettrick. They went on to have two children, Chad who was born in 1974 and tragically passed away in a house fire in 2002 and a daughter Annie born in 1977. They raised a great number of foster kids throughout the years, but only one became their daughter, Rosa Briggs. Beyond their natural born and foster children, Ronald created safety, comfort and dependability to many children that he mentored and cared for over the years. He was strong enough to be kind.

In 1975, Ronald and Bonnie purchased a farm in Galesville. Ronald's creativity and skill can be found in all areas of the farm with his landscaping, remodeling and little bits of whimsy scattered around the farm. In June 1975, Ronald attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute for Police Basic Training. He was hired by Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department and had a respected 27-year career as a deputy and detective from 1975-2001. Utilizing his ability to talk to anyone, his calm demeanor and genuine interest in people, he became a well-known interviewer in the law enforcement community.

When not on duty, he could be found working on the farm, exploring the woods, on the fast-pitch softball field, volleyball court or in his recliner reading the newspaper. He spent his retirement doing exactly what he wanted to do every day. Coffee with friends at the local gas station was a daily event. To continue to reinforce his love of people, this interaction allowed for him to laugh with and entertain all that entered the store. Ronald had dear friends from ages 8 to 80 years old, taking a genuine interest in them all.

A lifetime lover of rusty and broken things, he could see the potential and beauty in the item. He battled severe injury, heartache, loss and exposure to the worst in people through war and law enforcement, he knew that patina brought out the beauty of life. If you saw that smirk from behind that Fu-Manchu mustache, you knew you were going to laugh. Leaving an impression was one of his greatest skills. Ronald was a warm and loving father, dedicated and loving husband, caring brother and dear friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. 60 to County, 10-42.

Ronald is survived by his daughters Annie (Ryan Stuteville) and Rosa Briggs (Dan Briggs) and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie Corcoran, his son Chad, parents Donald and Myrtle Corcoran, In-laws Arthur and Anna Larsen, brothers John, Richard and sister Patricia.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1pm at the St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Ettrick, WI. A celebration of Ronald's life will be held that same day, from 3pm-7p at Tenba Ridge Winery (Copper Ridge Event Center) Blair, WI. A luncheon will be served at the event center.

Obituary Preview: Steven D. Smith, 61, of West Salem, WI died on Saturday March 30, 2024 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1962, in Wausau, Wisconsin to David and Nancy (Kuzenski) Smith. He married Tamera Sherer on November 7, 1992, in West Salem.

Steven worked as an autobody mechanic 30 years in his dad’s shop. He later went on to own a cabinet and countertop refinishing company for several years and retiring from Northern Engraving Co. in West Salem.

Steve enjoyed racing and being a part of the pit crew. He also loved spending time with his son repairing cars both mechanically and doing body work.

He is survived by wife Tamera of West Salem, WI; a son Collin (Finance Abi Braman) Smith of Tomah, WI, Parents David (Sue) Smith of Lake Havasu City AZ and Mother Nancy Smith of West Salem, WI; 2 sisters: Susan Smith and Nikki Smith both of Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Tomee Ann Genz, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. She was born on May 7, 1942, in Leeds, North Dakota to Donna (Fox) Krajewski and James Keegan. Tomee married Duane Genz on January 20, 1962 in La Crosse. Duane preceded her in death on April 7, 1998.

Tomee retired from the La Crosse School District where she worked with special needs children for 19 years.

Moms’ passion was baking and would never run out of things to tell you and talk about regarding what she was making or experimenting with. She showed her love through feeding anyone that wanted a taste and even if you didn’t, you didn’t tell Tomee no.

The thing she found most precious was her grandbabies and her great-grandbabies. Her most favorite title she held was GiGi.

Tomee is survived by two sons: Duane Genz and Greg (Danielle) Genz; two daughters: Tammy (Ryan) Sturm and Lisa (Keith) Carlson; three Sisters: Bridget Renwick, Becky Lockington and Cheryl (Richard) Harnwell; three brothers: Mike (Jackie) Keegan, Thomas “Fuzz” (Nancy) Krajewski, and Jay Mc Cauley. Eleven grandbabies: Hannah (Thomas) Darwish, Lindsay (Matt) Molstad, Megan (Matt) Lund. Andrew (Meredith) Gardner, Emily Gardner, Raygen Sturm, Cheyenne Sackmaster, Josh Genz, Jacob Genz, Riley Genz and Charleigh Genz. Eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Duane Genz, mother, Donna (Fox) Krajewski, father, James Keegan and her stepfather, Valentine “Poodles” Krajewski, Tomee was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Sackmaster; and two brothers: Greg Keegan, and Steven Krajewski The family would like to give a special thanks to:

Mom loved Wisconsin sports teams, her beloved Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Please wear your favorite Wisconsin team gear in honor of her love for those teams.

Obituary Preview: Michael Joey Brown, 59, of La Crosse WI passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on March 6th, 2024 from cancer at Gundersen Health System. Mike was Born to Ralph and Gladys Brown on the 25th of October 1964. He had 8 Siblings; Rick, Renda, Steve, Dan, Tom, Colleen, Patty, and Doug. Mike attended St. James and Logan High School. He proudly served in the Army National Guard with his brothers Rick, Steve, Dan, Tom and Doug. After graduating from High school, he attended UWL and then transferred to WI Technical College. He

graduated from the Carpentry program and with a partner started T&B Construction company. Mike worked construction for a few years and then changed career directions and bought the Logan Bar. Mike found his niche in bar management. He served as President of the La Crosse Tavern League from 2009-2021 and was active in the State Tavern League. He was instrumental in creating the Tavern League Safe Ride program and co-founded Coulee cab to help support safe rides home after bar time and long distance cab rides. He was considered a leader in the business.

Mike was a positive influence in the community by organizing military fund raisers and held memorial services and fund raisers for his patrons in need. In 2021 he was awarded the Wisconsin Tavern League Presidential Award for outstanding dedication and Service to the Tavern League of WI and its members and in particular for his leadership shown during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mike was awarded the Jefferson Public Service Award in La Crosse for his fundraising efforts with the La

Crosse Tavern League to support and grow the Safe Ride Program. Mike was a man who lived life fully. He grew up hunting and fishing with his family and his love of the outdoors followed him over a lifetime. He coordinated fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. He loved to gamble and coordinated trips to Las Vegas. His quick wit was matched only by his quick temper and both attributes were readily available during his weekly euchre tournaments. He had a great sense of humor

and a heart of gold. Mike loved his family, friends, and the life he created with his partner Jean. He arranged many opportunities to pull people together and made it seem effortless. He was actively involved in raising two of his

granddaughters, Brook and Scarlett, who became the center of his life. His generosity, kindness, leadership by example, empathy, family values and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gladys Brown, his brothers Steve, Dan, and Doug Brown and left behind five siblings; Rick (Christine) Brown, Renda Klingbeil, Tom (Chris) Brown, Patty (John) Stilwell and Colleen Rask; and 2 sisters-in-law: Shelly Brown and Geri Brown. He is survived by his partner of 15 years Jean Stingl, her children Ashley, Travis (Morgan), and Jason (Jenn) and seven grandchildren (Brooklyn Medland, Scarlett Sergeant; Warren and Judson Stingl; Ellianna, Marni and Jocelyn Stingl). Mike was further survived by countless friends and many adoring nieces and nephews whom he never missed an opportunity to tease, praise and support in times of need.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 52, 711 Sixth Street South, La Crosse, WI on May 4th, 2024 starting at 12 noon. Formal Services will start at 12:30pm. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service.

Born on March 11, 1936, in Osceola, Arkansas, to proud parents Thomas W. And Beatrice (Coots) McHann, Stanley's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering strength.

Stanley's journey began in the heart of the southern United States, where he learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and.. the importance of family. These virtues stayed with him throughout his life and shaped him into the remarkable man he became.

On August 29, 1956, in Vallejo, California, Stanley exchanged vows with his beloved Judith Orender. Their marriage was a shining example of love and partnership, spanning nearly seven decades and creating a legacy of commitment and devotion that will endure for generations to come.

Throughout his professional life, Stanley dedicated over 30 years to the dairy and baking industries, working tirelessly in sales and management across Canada. His expertise and passion for his work left a lasting impact on those he encountered, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

However, beyond his professional accomplishments, Stanley was best known for being a strong family man. His love and care for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. He was a pillar of strength and support, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a warm smile to brighten the lives of those around him.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Judy McHann, and his children: Stanley Jr. (Dana) of Austin, Texas, Steve (Terri) of Salem, Oregon, Jon (Patty) of Arcadia, Wisconsin, and Mark Thomas of Smithville, Tennessee. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed to have him as a guiding light in their lives.

A man of integrity, kindness, and unwavering dedication, Stanley E. McHann's memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love and familial bond will continue to inspire and uplift those who were touched by his presence.

Dorothy V. Will - January 23, 1925 - February 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dorothy Viola Will, 99, of Onalaska passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16th, 2024.

Dorothy was born January 23rd, 1925 in Cashton, WI to Eddie and Elsie (Lueck) Scharping. On May 27th, 1944 she married Neal Everett Will. She worked for La Crosse Garment Co. for 35 years and retired a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Local 379. Dorothy also worked as a nurses aide at the Onalaska Care Center for 10 years. Still not really retired she helped at Midwest Direct Holmen for her dear friends of many years.

Dorothy was a lifetime member of the DAV auxiliary and travelled weekly to Tomah for bingo with the veterans. Her husband Neal was a POW and a DAV and this special to her heart.

She was a faithful member of St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Onalaska.

Our mom was the sweetest, kindest person you could have ever met and have known. She will be dearly missed but always in our hearts.

She is survived by her children, Gale, Stanley (Cindy), Audrey (Chuck) Renwick, Marlene (Bob) Esser, Patti (Tom) Merfeld, Kevin (Romana) and Randy (Brenda). Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 Sisters Janet Dunnum, and Ardice (Vernon) Urbanek and a Sister-in-law Bernadine Scharping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 great-grandsons Levi Shepard and Damion Esser, siblings, Orval Scharping, Verdell (Marilyn) Scharping, Vernon (Louise) Scharping, Verna (Arthur) Marx, Ardella (Ellsworth) Role, Donna Urbanek and daughter in law Cheryl Larson.

Funeral services will be held on 10:30am on Friday, February 23, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Onalaska. Pastor Brett Ehlke will officiate. Friends may call at the Fossum Funeral and Cremation Service in Onalaska on Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and again at the church on Friday from 9:30am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Beverly Ann Bahnub, 97, formerly of Ettrick, Wisconsin, died Monday, January 8, 2024, at her daughter Sara’s home in Holmen, Wisconsin, surrounded by her family. “Bev” was born on July 13, 1926, the tenth child to Albert and Matilda (Overlien) Gilbertson. She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1944. On December 27, 1947, Bev was united in marriage to

Gordon Bahnub at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. After graduation, Bev worked for the US Employment Agency as a secretary in Seattle, Washington during WWII. She returned home and was employed at Camp McCoy in a secretarial position until the war’s end. After the war, Bev took an apprenticeship through

Madison Technical College at her sister Dorothy’s salon in Black River Falls. Beverly worked for her sister for five years before moving to Ettrick in 1953. She started a salon in her home and was there for 20 years before relocating to the former Howard Mack Barber Shop and then to a location on Market Street. After 45 years as a cosmetologist, Bev retired in 1991, with a deep appreciation for her loyal customers and the wonderful stylists she employed

through the years. Bev enjoyed all types of music as she grew up in a musical family that included her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She started singing in school choirs through high school and then in church choirs all her adult life. Bev was in the Living Hope Lutheran Church choir and

loved going to rehearsals every week. She was proud to say she never missed a practice. As a member of Living Hope, Bev taught Sunday School from 1954 until 1986 and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Besides singing, Bev loved knitting, reading, playing cards, and dancing. She loved to travel and was fortunate to travel with her sister, Verna, and her daughter, Beth, and her husband, George, when he was stationed at Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Frankfurt, Germany. Bev had fond memories of her travels in England, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, France, Italy, Alaska, Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico. She loved photography and was a very “techy” person. Bev was the one who always captured those Kodak moments throughout her life. As the use of technology expanded, she became an avid user of Web TV, cell phones, computers, and of course, her iPads. She loved to edit photos even at the age of 97! After Bev and Gordon retired, they moved to Arizona where they enjoyed the sunshine and living at several retirement communities, especially Apache East Estates. They moved to Holmen in 2007 and were happy to be back with their family. Besides her children, Bev’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and “favorite nephews.” Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; infant daughter, Gail; infant grandson, Joshua; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene (Bert) Engebretson, Avis (Homer) Hill, Palma “Polly” (Vilas) Welda, Verna (Jerry) Hoonsbeen and Dorothy (Richard) Waldum; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd (Kathryn) Gilbertson, Jerry Gilbertson, Paul Gilbertson, and Harold

(Bernice) Gilbertson; and son-in-law, George Giudice. Beverly is survived and loved beyond words by her three daughters: Sara Karels (special friend, Michael Wall) of Holmen, Julie (Keith) Johnson of Black River Falls, and Beth (Jim) Sauser of Naples, Florida; and one son, Scott (Julie) Bahnub of Osseo; six granddaughters, Kari Harvieux, Jennifer Solano, Abby Drengler, Leah Geis, Lindzy Bahnub, and Michelle Giudice; two step-granddaughters, Jade Heimer and Jewel Lee; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Haileigh, Colton, Blaire, Hayden, Charlotte (Charlee) and Kyler; and three step-great-granddaughters,

Rhyze, Oaklynn and Rowen. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the kindness, support, and excellent care Bev received from the Gundersen Health System staff; especially Dr. Julie Gerig, APNP Janice Schroeder, and PA-C Nina Conard; and the staff from St.Croix Hospice. The family is also extremely grateful to those family members, especially Sara, who made possible Bev’s wish to

remain at home during this past year. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Beverly’s life at a memorial service at 2 p.m. on her 98th birthday, Saturday, July 13th, at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick with Rev. Greg Ofsdahl officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be

immediately following the service at the Ettrick Cemetery. Mom, Grandma, Ghee Ghee, Grandma Great, we will always love you. Your life was truly a

Obituary Preview: Patricia A “Pat” Borger, 84 of Onalaska, died on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the Marinuka Manor in Galesville. She was born on February 27, 1939 in Richland Center, WI to Earl and Mary (Kelley) Mashak. Pat grew up in La Crosse and was a graduate of Aquinas High School. She married Howard V. Borger on October 22, 1960 in La Crosse, WI.

Pat held various jobs over her lifetime. She retired as a clerk from Shopko. Pat enjoyed fishing, gardening and crafting.

Pat is survived by 2 daughters Lisa Borger of Galesville, WI and Mary (Jim) Matthews of Waupaca, WI and their children Sean and Hope; a step-grandson Jeremiah Tschumper of Galesville, WI and his son Mathias David Tschumper; one sister Linda (Bob) Domrois and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2015, a son David John Borger in 2023; and 2 sisters: Shirley and Geri.

Kathryn M. Nichols - March 07, 1942 - September 20, 2023

Obituary Preview: Kathryn M. “Kathy” Nichols, 81 of La Crosse passed away at her home following a brief illness on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. She was born on March 7, 1942 in Onalaska to Wendell and Esther (Christianson) Schuppel. While growing up Kathy loved riding horses and all things cowgirl. She graduated from Onalaska High School and worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills for 29 years were she made many friends and was proud to have worked her way up to be "A Boss". Kathy married the love of her life, Ken Nichols, on March 17, 1962 in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2020 after 58 years together.

Kathy and Ken fulfilled their lifelong dream of “living on the river” when they purchased their home on French Island and lived their retired years there for over 25 years. She loved spending time on the pontoon boat doing sunset cruises, fishing, and pulling up to sand bars. She was known by family to always be happy to help clean fish after a successful day on the water. In her free time she also enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and quilting. She had a green thumb and spent many hours tending to her plants. In fact, she started and shared many plants that live on with family and friends… She was also an avid bowler when younger and enjoyed traveling with her friends to tournaments across the state as well as Reno & Vegas. However, Kathy will be most remembered for the unconditional love she showed to her children, grandchildren, extended family members, and the friends she found along her way through life.

Kathy was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and is survived by her four sons: Dan (Sandy), Chris, Randy (Sheri) and Chuck (Tammy); Nine grandchildren: Matthew, Lucas, Jacob, Derek (Kylie), Erica, Zach, Erin (Benjamin), Ben (Abby) and Charlie, Jr.; Three great grandchildren Scarlett, Natalie, and baby Rhino. In addition to her husband, Kathy was preceded in death by her four sisters Eleanor, Marilyn, Joyce and Donna. She is survived by her loving brother Wayne.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at the Fossum Funeral and Cremation Service. Pastor Phillip Waselik will officiate. A private burial will follow. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.

He grew up playing outside and wrestling, which he excelled at through High School. Tom then took his on the- go mentality to the construction world and became known to most as a guy who could fix or build

just about anything, as long as it was made of wood and not steel. Tom’s true passion was always the outdoors and he spent most of his free time hunting, boating/fishing, camping, or simply taking the UTV for a drive. These memories were made that much more meaningfull when accompanied by family, friends, and newcomers, especially when with his better half Becky and son Justn. When he wasn’t busy, he was often home having a laugh with loved ones, and the dogs, or

relaxing and having a cold one. What Tom will be remembered for the most was his happy nature and giant heart. Whether it was stopping by to fix something around the house, or making everybody feel welcome when they stopped

by, you could always expect a good laugh when Tom was around. Tom leaves behind his fiancé, Becky Stark, and son, Justin; his mother Carol Ali and his four siblings, Sue Baker (Ron), Rick Roach (Cindy Schardin), Laura Brockman (Greg), and John Roach; and many other family members and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly. Obituary Preview: Lois Larson, Natural Resources Property Supervisor of the Perrot State Park Team in Trempealeau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home among family on Tuesday, August 15th at 9:30pm due to Cholangiocarcinoma (a rare form of cancer that affects the bile ducts of the liver). She was 53 years old. A Celebration of Life event will be held September 8th from 11:00am until 3:00pm at the pavilion near the Nature Center in Perrot State Park near Trempealeau. Lois was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin on January 10, 1970. She graduated as Valedictorian of Milwaukee James Madison High School in 1988. Lois then received a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Natural Resources Management, with a Minor in Parks and Recreation, from the University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point in 1992, along with the Chancellor’s Leadership Award. She started working for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as a Limited Time Employee position in high school at Latham Peak and upon graduating from Steven’s Point, she took a permanent part time position with the DNR on the Great River State Trail between Onalaska and Trempealeau Wisconsin. She eventually moved into a full time position within the Perrot State Park Unit.

Lois was preceded in death by her father, Lauri Isaacson and her father in law, Charles Larson. Lois leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Ken Larson, her mother Mavis (Anderson) Isaacson, her mother in law Doris (Magee) Larson, brothers Mark (Janet) Trogstad-Isaacson (Drew, Kyle, Scout, and Bailey), Peter (Lynn) Isaacson, and Paul (Wendy) Isaacson (Eric and Erin), and brother in law Bob (Trina) Larson (Jack, Thomas, and McKenna). She also leaves behind her stepmother Judy Isaacson, stepbrothers David Putnam (Tom and Sam), John Putnam, and Jean (Putnam) Erd (Nick, Brittany, and Joe).

In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks for donations to the Friends of Perrot State Park. Those donations will be used to support future natural resources education programs at Perrot State Park.

Kristen had an amazing love for nature! She loved thunderstorms, hiking, back road cruises, beaches and taking her kids fishing. Her most favorite spot was a hidden waterfall in Sandstone, MN. She loved going there as a child and took her children there often to share in that love. She also enjoyed a great backyard BBQ with family and friends.

Kristen will be sadly missed by her children, whom were her everything; she lovingly referred to as her “kittens”: Veronica, Jaylen, Aiyzanna, Jermarion and Amera, whom she loved so much. She is survived by her mother Jessica Boltik and Stepfather Randy Sivigny, a brother Levi Rodebaugh, sister Mercedez (Rodebaugh) Jackson, and many nieces and nephews that she adored. She is further survived by her stepfather as a child Richard Rodebaugh and her father Ken Vian, Jr. and many half siblings.

Obituary Preview: Robert Ruud, 73, of Onalaska and formerly West Salem, died on Wednesday, June 21, at Mayo Health System in La Crosse after a brief battle with liver cancer.

Born April 22, 1950, to Arthur and Betty (Formanek) Ruud, Bob grew up on the south side of La Crosse and graduated from Central High School in 1968. He attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, graduating in 1972 with a major in geography. During these years, he worked at the New Villa in La Crosse, where he learned his crowd-pleasing batter-fried fish recipe.

In 1973, he married Christine Olson and they raised their two children, Elizabeth and Samuel, in West Salem. Bob started his work life at Trane Company in La Crosse in 1973 and ended at L.B. White in Onalaska in 2021, going from the world of air conditioning at Trane to heating units at L.B. White. He also worked as a custodian for the West Salem School District, starting as a sub on weekends, which then led to a twenty-year commitment. Because he couldn’t be idle, after his retirement he returned to the workforce subbing as a custodian, serving lunches in food service, and filling in as a paraprofessional substitute at Trempealeau Elementary. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Bob” and found a calling in helping students and staff of that building. He took on any task, would be there at a moment's notice, and did whatever he could to help.

Often the instigator of shenanigans and practical jokes, Bob was an expert at working behind the scenes to create some elaborate joke or trick, and with award-winning acting skills would deflect any blame for or ownership of the situation. He passed this skill on to his children and grandchildren, who plan to continue his legacy. Bob loved the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening and had a passion for playing the lottery. He said he didn’t smoke or drink, so the lottery was his vice. The squirrels, rabbits and moles that invaded his yard and wreaked havoc on his precious garden plants and bird feeders were his only enemies. With these animals he went to battle in some very creative ways. When Liz and Sam were in 4-H, he coached the softball team, and many young players learned to "never look at where you hit the ball and keep running for first base!"

Bob loved auctions and finding great deals. With the patience of a saint, he would hold his bid until he knew he was getting a great deal. Not always, though. Sometimes he just couldn’t walk away and got into some bidding battles that resulted in big purchases. While he was proud of his children and their accomplishments, the greatest joy in his life came from his grandchildren. From supporting Ellie in concerts and softball games; keeping up with Maddie in theater, music, and track; following Cale’s basketball teams; talking endlessly about all things WWII with Alex; and standing in all types of weather for Mick’s soccer and football games, he was never more enthusiastic than when it involved something with his precious five grandchildren. He patiently taught them to fish, repeatedly telling them, "You've got a bite! Pull!" Each grandchild had a special relationship with "Grandpa Bob"; they have lost one of their biggest cheerleaders.

Other than the squirrels, rabbits and moles, it would be hard to find someone who didn’t enjoy being with Bob or didn’t receive help if they needed it. He was ready to step up for any project for family and friends, whether it was putting shingles on a house in 95-degree weather or willingly hauling wheelbarrows of dirt. Selflessly helping others was at the core of who he was.

Bob’s sudden diagnosis and decline left no time for him to finish his many projects or to make one last trip to the lake with his family. And his unexpected death leaves many wishing for more cherished moments with him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Christine, children Elizabeth (Ryan) Ziegler, Holmen; Samuel (Nichole) Ruud, Trempealeau; his five grandchildren: Ellie, Madeline, Cale, Alexander, and Mick; and his brothers, Cory and Steve, and sister, Sally. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will occur on Tuesday, June 27 at Fossum Funeral Home, 510 2nd Avenue South, Onalaska from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at 11:00 AM at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris Street, Holmen. There will be a visitation before the service starting at 10:00 AM. A lunch at the church will follow the service.

Jeff was known to many as "Preacher," because he loved to talk and tell stories to anyone who would listen. He was a hard-working truck driver for most of his life (like his father) and enjoyed his job. Jeff loved eagles, being outdoors, cooking, and going to "junk stores" with his wife. He would do anything to make his wife laugh and never minded her sharing pictures of his antics. Jeff was a big fan of auto racing and rock music. His favorite band was ZZ Top and with his red beard he bore an uncanny resemblance to band member Dusty Hill, his hero. Ramcey was born in Cuba on December 19th 1979 and came to the United States with his parents and three siblings when he was four months old. His parents left Cuba, fleeing an oppressive and tyrannical government so that their children could have a better future.

Ramcey did not dishonor his parents’ sacrifice. His love and passion for learning fueled his drive to earn a Masters Degree in Business Psychology, where he was honored as the Valedictorian of his graduating class. Ramcey was recently working toward his Doctorates Degree in Business psychology from Liberty University.

Ramcey also had a love of sports, excelling in basketball and baseball, and steadfastly rooting for his beloved Mets and Knicks.

Ramcey is remembered by those who had the privilege of connecting with him as a thoughtful, charming and generous young man whose witty humor will be missed on this Earth.

He was living in La Crescent Minnesota after relocating from Yonkers, New York in 2021. Ramcey leaves behind his girlfriend Cori Johnson, the love of his life who has been at his side—she greatly and unconditionally loved and supported him.

Ramcey will be greatly missed by his girlfriend, brother and sisters, nephews and nieces, and his very good friends. He will always live in our hearts, his kindness, thoughtfulness, and loving ways cannot be replaced and we are grateful that God placed him in our lives for whatever time he chose to.

Obituary Preview: Don DeBoer, 72, passed away at Hillview Health Care Center on May 7, 2023, with his wife and daughters by his side. He had been a resident there for two years and died after complications from an infection. Don was born in La Crosse on June 21, 1950, to Ione (Koenen) and W. John DeBoer. He grew up in La Crosse, enjoying outdoor sports and activities. He was a member of the Bishop’s Choristers. Don and his three brothers were often found in or by the marsh and at Leuth Park. He was an avid speed skater and remembered taking the train to Milwaukee to compete in events while staying at the home of his aunt and uncle. Don was quarterback for the Aquinas football team until he was injured during a game. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1968. After high school, Don worked for K-Mart in the shoe department and later at Trane Co. Eventually, he was hired by the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk and remained there for forty-one years until his retirement due to illness.

Don and Mary Blaha started dating while they were working together at the La Crosse post office and in 1996, they were married at Roncalli Newman Center. A year later, they welcomed their first child, Amanda Elizabeth, and almost two years later, Avery Marie. He always said the best things he ever got in life were his wife and his two girls. He truly enjoyed being with them as they grew up, going on mini adventures, watching tennis, soccer, and softball games, going to his daughters’ music concerts, setting up impromptu picnics at different destinations, going on RV trips with Mary’s parents, Betty and Cliff, and spending time at the cabin and campground by Little Silver Lake in Wild Rose, WI. He spent time with his brothers and their families, enjoyed time at the lake with the girls, and always put the Beatles radio station on the cabin’s speakers. Through the various seasons of his life, his passion for golf was a constant.

After retirement, Don started working part-time for his brother’s business, DeBoer Pest Control. He really enjoyed his new job, being outdoors, and meeting the customers. Three years ago, he suffered two strokes which left him requiring around-the-clock care. He rehabilitated at home during the initial year of the COVID pandemic with the help of his wife, daughters, Carol Knox, and the Rehab Team at Gundersen. Don began his time at Hillview two years ago. He passed the time by working on crossword puzzles, watching old movies, going outside in the summer, and visits from family and friends.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Amanda and Avery, Milwaukee; his mother, Ione, Onalaska; his brothers, Jim (Donna), Onalaska, Dave, La Crosse, Jerry, Chicago; and former sister-in-law, Liz DeBoer, Milwaukee. He is also survived by nieces, Amy, Dana, Gwynne (Nick), and Christina (Jason); nephews, D.J. (Andrea) and James (Natalie), as well as their children. He is also survived by his favorite furry friend, Gemma.

The family would like to thank the Hillview care team for all the kindness and support they have given Don over the past two years. He was very grateful for the care he received. Also, the Gundersen staff for keeping him alive so many times when we weren’t sure he would make it. And special thanks to Carol Knox for all her help when Mary had to go back to work after the schools opened again.

Don was a kind-hearted, goofy man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. We wish we had more time with him, and he will be dearly missed.

She was born on October 13, 1961, in La Crosse, to Gene C. and Ruth Ann (Lambert) Alland. She married Dale Steers in La Crosse on October 9, 1982. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2009.

Anne loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Anne was passionate about caring for the children who came to her home daycare, and many of them have continued to stay in touch. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, socializing, long drives in the country, visiting casinos, and dancing the night away. She will be remembered for always putting other people’s needs before her own, her infectious laugh, and her ability to find humor even in challenging circumstances.

Anne is survived by partner Donnie Hayden, three children, and four grandchildren: Shawn (Tara) Steers and their children Shawn, Jr. and Avery; Ryan (Anne) Steers and their children Hazel and Layla; and Gene Steers. She is also survived by brothers Eric (Katherine Murphy) Alland and Carl (Jayne) Alland and many loving extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, and brother Rob Alland.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Phil Waselik will officiate. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fossum Funeral Home in Onalaska from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Obituary Preview: Glenora Ann Hutchens, most recently of Tomah, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Glenora was born in Stonewall, Oklahoma on December 16, 1937, the daughter of Ulyess Abraham Lytle and Pauline Lewis. Glenora was the second of seven siblings growing up primarily in Osage County, Oklahoma. An intelligent, albeit restless individual, Glenora dropped out of Fairfax High School in her sophomore year. She married Herbert Hutchens of Fairfax, Oklahoma, in 1961. They had two sons, Kenneth Dean born in 1962 and Ulyess Barry born in 1966. The family moved to the oilfields of western Colorado in 1964 and then to Loveland, Colorado, in 1965. They returned to Fairfax in 1969 where they remained into the late 1990s.

Glenora did a wide variety of jobs from waitress to day care director to grocery clerk and dispatcher at the local police station. Her passion, however, was cooking. Glenora cooked for politicians and school kids, local notables and out of towners. She loved to create new variations on dishes which she practiced on her family. She continued to cook long after she lost her eyesight. Glenora did needlework crafts over the years and was an avid reader of romance novels. She trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord and always had a project going to make someone’s life better. Last Thanksgiving she carefully prepared to say the prayer at the meal in her facility and was greatly bothered that one of the residents died right before dinner and she didn’t get to pray.

Glenora’s strong determination and positive spirit brought her through many trials in life including becoming the main breadwinner in 1969 when Herb had to go on medical disability; the loss of her house and possessions in a house fire in 1976; the painful loss of her eyesight in the early 1990s; numerous medical issues including diabetes and congestive heart failure; the death of her husband after 51 years of marriage in 2012, and losses of loved ones in tragic ways. Glenora always adapted to the situation and made the best out of what life dealt her with humor, persistence, and faith.

Glenora was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother who was not above undermining parental authority with sweets and rescues from discipline. Her desire to be close to her children and grandchildren brought moves to Colorado, Wisconsin, and Illinois later in life. Her mind stayed strong to the end, filled with phone numbers that allowed her to keep in touch with all her many relatives and friends. Her hair never turned gray and her love of discussing the latest meal never dimmed.

Glenora is survived by her brother, Bill Lytle of Fairfax, Oklahoma, her sister, Paula Bowden of Richardson, Texas, her two sons, Ken Hutchens of Shiloh, Illinois, and Barry (Deanna) Hutchens of St Marys, Georgia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rebekah (Justin) of Granby, Missouri; Bethany (Alex) Kotlar of Boston, Massachusetts; Jessica (Matt) Winchell of Tomah, Wisconsin; Carter (Bek) Hutchens of Edinburg, Texas; Kirsten Hutchens of St Marys, Georgia; and Erin (Conner) Orille of San Antonio, Texas. Glenora has 8 Great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Paulette was born and raised in Ettrick, WI to Paul and Charlotte Bishop on August 28th, 1948. She is survived by her sons Matthew, Mark, and Michael; her siblings Jerome, Anita, and Joey; her grandchildren Nikolai and Milo; and many, many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who graced her life.

Paulette was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who loved to socialize. As a young woman she enjoyed being a hairdresser, then later in life selling jewelry. Her favorite pastimes included “digging in the dirt” (gardening), doting on babies, rooting for the Packers and Badgers, and collecting all things penguins. Paulette's great joy was being Grammy to Niko and Milo. Her smile and friendly nature will be missed by all who knew her.

Obituary Preview: Robert J. “Rob” Alland, 49, of La Crosse, died on Saturday March 18, 2023 at Gundersen Health Care in La Crosse. He was born on May 23, 1973 in La Crosse to Gene Clayton and Ruth Ann (Lambert) Alland. Rob was a 1992 graduate of Logan High School. Rob enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating and greatly enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle. Rob also enjoyed spending time at the cabin on the old family homestead. He was employed as a freelance handyman doing construction and snowplowing in La Crosse. His last job was building a garage with his brother at his brother’s home.

Obituary Preview: Arlan R. Pedersen, born on August 3, 1941, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2023. Arlan had an exciting youth, moving many times and living everywhere from Lake Tahoe and Northern California to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He lived a long-forgotten childhood of hunting, fishing, and camping on sandbars during a time long gone and plentiful outdoor resources. These experiences shaped his love for the outdoors, and he continued to enjoy fishing and hunting throughout his life.

Arlan worked at LB White, Allis Chalmers, LaCrosse Cooler Co, and Trane Company during his lifetime. He had a successful career, but his passion was spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors. Arlan had a heart of gold, and his greatest joys were reading about and traveling out west to the badlands, fishing, hunting, and enjoying breakfast at local restaurants with his wife.

Arlan married Donna Thurston on December 8, 1962, and had two sons, but they later divorced. He then remarried Sandra Dopson on October 27, 1979. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra, sons Rick (Joane) Pedersen and Larry (Ayumi) Pedersen, granddaughter Lori (Ryan) Kellicut, three grandsons Alex, Caesar, and Leo Pedersen, and three great-grandsons Wyatt, Kayne, and Coltyn. Arlan was also survived by his younger brother, Steven (Diane) Pedersen, and their son and daughter, Lisa and Jeff.

Arlan was preceded in death by his father, Edward Pedersen Sr., mother, Doris Pedersen, sister Maureen, and brother Edward Pedersen Jr. He will be remembered as a devoted family man, a true outdoorsman, and a man with a heart of gold.

Arlan chose cremation, and a celebration of life will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date. A few of us saw the guy who taught me to fish at age four, the guy who drove his granddaughter to grade school every day, or the man who always had a story to tell. His family and friends will cherish Arlan's memories of his youth and love for the outdoors. He ensured that the extended family had full-fuel oil barrels when they had no heat. Arlan was a determined man with a strong presence, and many people saw him as such. But for those close to him, he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great-grandfather.

Rest in peace, Arlan. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Obituary Preview: On the morning of Sunday, March 5th, 2023, Kathleen Ann Dahlback saw the face of Jesus and never looked back. Kathy was born on April 24, 1953, to Arnold and Vivian Hall in Austin, MN, where she was raised and went through school. She graduated from Austin High school in 1971. She pursued insurance sales and went through schooling and passed state boards all the while raising her two, young children, Adam and Andrea.

Kathy met the love of her life and was married to Jerry Dahlback on May 23rd, 1987. They were blessed to be coming up to their 36th wedding anniversary this year. Her greatest pastime has always been being a blessing to others, buying groceries for anyone who may need them and always offering a helping hand. Her whole life was devoted to loving, nurturing, and guiding her family. Her husband was her very best friend, confidant and companion and she had smiles ear to ear at any moment of seeing her children and grandchildren. She was also the best friend anyone could ever ask for. She always made herself available to anyone to chat and her door was always open for guests.

We will miss her genuine spirit but know she is no longer in pain. She is with her Jesus and dancing in glory.

Predeceased by: Her dearest daughters, baby Angela and sweet Andrea Hoppin, her parents, Arnold and Vivian Hall; her brother, William Hall; and her sweet mother-in-law Esther Dahlback. Along with aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survived by: Her loving husband, Jerry Dahlback; Sons, Adam (Jeannie) Hoppin, Jeremy (Leah) Dahlback, and daughters, Lisa (Greg) Dahlback and Holly (Jared) Showers. Her grandchildren: Alexandria Hoppin, Carly (Cory) Hoppin-Kaupa, Brenden (Ericka) Knudsen (giving her her great-grandchildren Harper and Aurora), Madalyn Deyoung, Lola Dahlback, Max Dahlback, Jalen Showers, Skylin Harville, Karter Showers, Eligh Showers, and her last grandbaby, Haileigh Showers. Her special niece Lisa (John) Padron whom she loved dearly. Along with many other nieces and nephews. Her brother Terry (Mary) Hall and sisters Jeannie (Larry) Kolpek, and Sue (Bill) Herr. Her Aunt Angie. Along with Dan and Joan Showers. Also her loving grand-dogs Ralphie, Hank, Sherman and Oliver.
