Obituary Preview: Henry Lee Nall Jr., a native of Mobile, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 29, 2024. He passed at his residence with his wife at his side after a lengthy illness.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henty Lee Nall Sr.

Henry is survived by his loving wife Michelle Lynn Nall of Mobile; his mother Juanita Lovett of Saraland, AL; sisters Deborah (David) Haskew and Linda (Randy) Stephens, both of Saraland; stepbrother William (Nelda) Brown of Mobile; niece Tiffany Stephens Denny of Saraland; nephews David (Erin) Nall and Garrett (Corrie) Stephens, both of Birmingham; nephew Brian (Sarah) Gilbert; countless other family members including two great nephews and eight great nieces. He also held a very special bond and thirty-four-year friendship with Shereighn Lynne Roberts of Batesville, Mississippi, and he cherished his two fur babies Sophie and Legend.

Henry was the owner and operator of Henry Nall Painting for forty years. He was always in high demand due to the exceptional quality of his craftsmanship. As a child, he was a fierce protector of his two younger sisters, as well as being the daredevil of the neighborhood. He attended Shaw High School.

As a sportsman, he always played by the rules. He did his best at every sport, excelling at tackle football and baseball as a youth. He was also the NASCAR track champion at Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina, winning thirty-seven races in five years. He purchased a race car on a Friday night and ran it for the first time in competition on the following night, on a track driven by the likes of Ralph Earnhardt and Harry Gant.

Henry was also a league bowler for many years. Needless to say, his team was always a contender, either finishing first or certainly within the top three. But fishing was Henry’s true passion. He and his wife Michelle belonged to the Alabama Coastal Fisherman’s Association for several decades and held titles of Master Angler, Big Fish Champion, Tournament Winner, and many other categories.

He was an honorable and fair person, and a God-fearing man. Henry was a true believer and knew God as his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Nell Rotch Barnes; his son Clifton Barnes (Reba); daughter-in-law Michele Barnes; grandchildren Jill B. (Les) Bumpers, Matt Barnes, Logan (Anna) Barnes, Shauna B. (Kevin) Pike; great-grandchildren Andrew Bumpers, Will Bumpers, Emma Bumpers, Nolan Barnes, Christopher Berg, Addison Berg, and Benjamin Berg.

During World War II, he relocated to Mobile, Alabama and worked at Brookley Air Force Base as a government employee. He retired from civil service in Warner Robbins, Georgia and returned to Mobile.

Melvin is preceded in death by his loving wife Hazel Juliet Henderson Lewis; parents Melvin Sr. and Webel; sisters Ellen Rainey and Mary Callicott Granger, both of Memphis, Tennessee.

He is survived by his beloved sons Harry (Cynthia) Lewis of Saraland, Alabama and Melvin Warren (Jean) Lewis of Somerville, Tennessee; cherished grandchildren Jason Lewis and Brittany (Ryan) Peckham; and many beautiful nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Covington Place of Satsuma, Alabama and Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle, Alabama for loving and caring for our father. Melvin will be interred Thursday, October 13 at 11:00 AM in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, located in Saraland.
