Claire Yevette Aubut - January 07, 1957 - May 08, 2020

Departed: 05/08/2020 (Berlin)
Obituary Preview: Having finished her work, Claire (Dube) Aubut passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin after a period of fragile health.  She was born in Nashua, NH on January 7, 1957.
She was guided throughout her life by her unwavering Christian faith and dedication to her family and loved ones.  She earned her GED and was driven to earn her Associate in Science degree in Human Services so that she might better care for others.  It was in caring for those who needed it that she found her vocation.  She worked as a home care provider with Northern Human Services in Berlin for many years.  Her studies and work helped her learn and improve her ability to care and advocate for her siblings.   She was committed throughout her life to ensuring their welfare and worked tirelessly on their behalf.
Claire would herself say that nobody is perfect, herself included.  She did like to go to the casino, but truly she found more enjoyment in talking them into giving her perks than she enjoyed gambling.  Unless she won.  She will be remembered for her fun-loving nature, her good humor and full, very loud laugh, but mostly for her sense of compassion for others that was truly Christian in the finest sense.
She was predeceased by both of her parents, Reginald and Cecile (Belanger) Dube, all three of her siblings, Rene, Rita, and Ann-Marie Dube, and husbands, George Dunbar, and Paul Aubut.  She had no children.  She leaves behind not only a very large extended family, but when she made a friend, it was a friendship for life, and so friends became family for her.  Her many close friends left behind include:  Christian, Lisa and Steve, Maggie, Donna, Lulu, Diane, Dale, Cody, and far too many more to list by name.  She also leaves behind her cousins, Pauline and Rene Pouliot and Kevin and Ann Burngot.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish on Friday June 19, 2020 at 11AM.  Interment will follow at New City Cemetery in Berlin.  Social distancing and face coverings will be required of those in attendance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with others, providing an opportunity for people to pay their respects, offer condolences, and celebrate the person's life. They also help to notify people of funeral or memorial service arrangements.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member, close friend, or sometimes a funeral home staff member. The writer should have knowledge of the deceased person's life, accomplishments, and relationships to ensure an accurate and meaningful tribute.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, surviving family members, and any notable achievements or awards.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words. Keep in mind that some publications may have word count restrictions or charge extra for longer obituaries.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may accept submissions online, while others may require email or phone submissions.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered. This can be a therapeutic exercise and help alleviate the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. On average, expect to pay between $50 to $500 or more for a print publication. Online platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber or formal. Including humor or personal stories can help capture the personality and spirit of the deceased and make the tribute more engaging.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain historical records. Some genealogy websites also offer access to archived obituaries.

Can I republish an obituary on social media or my personal website?

Check with the original publication or author for permission before republishing an obituary. You may need to obtain copyright clearance or provide proper attribution.

What is an online obituary platform?

An online obituary platform is a website that allows users to create, publish, and share obituaries digitally. These platforms often offer features like guestbooks, condolence messages, and photo sharing.

Are online obituaries permanent?

Most online obituary platforms store tributes permanently, but it's essential to check their policies regarding data retention and archiving.

Can I edit an already published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was originally published to request changes. Be prepared to provide documentation supporting the requested edits.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

If you notice mistakes in an already published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately. They will guide you through their correction process.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased person's legacy.

What is the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolence messages, share memories, and sign their name as a way to pay respects to the deceased person.

How do I write a condolence message for an online guestbook?

Aim for sincerity and brevity when writing a condolence message. Express your sympathy, share a fond memory (if applicable), and offer support to the grieving family.
