Obituary Preview: Lonny Lee Thiele, 78, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was a long time resident of Poplar Bluff. He was born March 20, 1944 in Kirksville, MO to the late Carl Junior, and Emily (Manlove) Thiele.

Lonny married Pauline Evans July 20, 2002, she survives.

Lonny served his country in the Army in Vietnam. He was a journalist for the Daily American Republic. He was a member of the ODD Fellows. He enjoyed riding horses and mules. He loved going on wagon train trips, line dancing, reading and history, and playing tennis. He especially loved his grandchildren.

Besides his wife Pauline, Lonny is survived by four daughters: Megan Strong, of Santa Cruz, CA, Sheila Thiele, of Los Angeles, CA, and Amanda Fitzwater and Marsha McKuin, both of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Carolyn Henry, of Yakima, WA; five grandchildren: Madison Fitzwater, Kendall Fitzwater, David McKuin, Solh Strong, and Ruger Fitzwater.

Christine was a homemaker who loved to travel, play pool, going to flea markets, cooking, baking and playing with her grandchild.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Denny J. Burgin.

She is survived by four sons; Larry Winfree, David R. Winfree, Ronnie Burgin (Jeanne) and Bobby Burgin (Darlene), all of Poplar Bluff; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel McIver.

Mildred was born on March 07, 1941, to Warren and Goldie (Stucker) Ethridge in Poplar Bluff. She married Jesse “Buck” Hicks Sr. on March 12, 1959, in Poplar Bluff.

Mildred was a light to everyone she met. She had a heart of gold and a patient, forgiving nature. She always managed to stay positive, no matter what curveballs life threw her way. She had a witty personality and loved her family fiercely. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren; she never missed a chance to share how proud she was of all of them.

Mildred is survived by one son, Danny (Diane) Hicks Sr.; three grandchildren, Danny (Ciara) Hicks Jr., Jesse (Kayla) Hicks III, and Chelsea (Jared) Rice; five great-grandchildren, Jesse, Mia, Gavin, Leighton, and Emma; six sisters, Maxine (Bill) Hendrickson, Dorothy “Dotty” Kiser, Hazel Williams, Mary (Jim) Champion, Catherine Koch, and Patsy “Patty” (James) Harrelson; three brothers, John (Jan) Ethridge, James (Emily) Ethridge, and David (Irene) Ethridge; sister-in-law, Shirley Ethridge.

Mildred is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse “Buck” Hicks Sr.; one son, Jesse Hicks Jr.; one sister, Beulah Ethridge; and two brothers, Warren Ethridge Jr., and Paul Ethridge.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 10:00-11:00am at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home. Funeral service to follow beginning at 11:00am with officiating by Pastor Ken King. Burial will take place at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and son.

He is survived by one daughter, Tonya Wells of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Merna Pittman of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Mary Dement, and McKinley Wells both of Poplar Bluff; one great-grandchild, Jack King of Poplar.

He was preceded in death by one son, Damon Creach.

A memorial service will be held December 13, 2021 at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00P.M.  Jerry Murphy will officiate.

Obituary Preview: Hazel Anderson Knox, 97, of Munford, TN, passed away in her home Tuesday, November 2, 2021.  She was born December 4, 1923 to the late Floyd Anderson and Mabel (Woolsey) Anderson of St. Louis.  She was of the Lutheran faith.

On February 14, 1953, she married her lifetime love, Billy Knox, Sr. in St. Louis.  He preceded her in death, November 15, 2003.  Her home was full of love while she worked to keep a good house and raise their seven children.   Hazel’s talents as a seamstress came in handy with such a full home.  She loved collecting dolls, working outside and raising flowers.  Children, grandchildren and greats, were her love.

Hazel is survived by three sons,  Terrence Chambers (Sharon) of Hardy, VA, Billy Knox, Jr. of St. Charles, MO and Dennis Knox (Denise) of Foley, MO; four daughters, Carol Comeaux (Norm) of Naples, FL, Deborah Doelger (Michael) of Mancos, CO, Christine Bankert (Dennis) of Munford, TN and Rebecca Hunt (Richard) of Vicksburg, MS; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Family and friends were always welcome through her door. Bonnie had two sons, Frederick Lee (who preceded her in death, survived by wife Patricia of Poplar Bluff) and Danny Rhodes (Jackie) of Poplar Bluff; one step-daughter, Elizabeth Dugger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Rhodes; two grandchildren, Teresa Rhodes of Poplar Bluff and Mathew Rhodes (Michelle) of Valley Park, Missouri and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, James Ray (Sarah) of Poplar Bluff and Guy Ray (Sarah) of Williamsville; one sister, Noma Hathaway of St. Ann, MO; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Joy Lynn Greenlee.

She married Tim Elsworth on July 29, 1994 in Poplar Bluff to which four children were born.  She was a practicing LPN at Family Counseling Center of Poplar Bluff.  Susan was an artist of many talents and crafts too.  She enjoyed a good camping trip to Cloud 9.  Susan’s greatest pleasure was helping others due to her big heart.  A confidante to all that needed an ear and when someone was in need she was the first to volunteer.  Susan was a great mom to her sons and daughters and loving wife to her dear husband.  Family was her love.

Susan is survived by her parents, Rodney Smith, Kathy Garrison (Charles), her husband, Tim Elsworth; two sons, Trevor Dean Elsworth and Mark Cameron Elsworth of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Amber Dawn Elsworth of Poplar Bluff and Kylie Brooke Elsworth of Ellsinore; one brother, Ryan Smith (Camille) of Maryland Heights, MO and four sisters, Kristy Hornbeck (Steve), Christina Wiggs (Scott), Casey Salyer (Christian) and Heather Lampe (Jake), all of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be Monday, October 18, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Fitch-Hillis Chapel.  Service will be Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Fitch-Hillis Chapel.  Rev. Tim Ingle will be the speaker.  Burial will be at the City Cemetery.  Social distancing and masks are recommended.

She was born in Butler County and after a life abroad, returned in 2001. She was a retired lab tech.  Sonia was an avid reader, regular shopper of the flea markets and enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities.

Sonia is survived by one son, Chester Hardin, Jr of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Paula Beck of House Springs, MO; four brothers, John Griffin and Larry Griffin of Poplar Bluff, Otto Griffin of Qulin, MO and Elisha Griffin of Campbell, MO; two grandchildren, Dillon and Cody Wilson and several great-grandchildren.

A longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, her warm smile as a greeter at Wal-Mart was well known.  She also enjoyed playing bingo and chancing the odds gambling.  Her favorite pastime was being with family and friends.

Grace is survived by one son, Chris Barber of Poplar Bluff; three daughters, Penny Cruz of Memphis, TN, Helen Burroughs of Poplar Bluff and Julia Flood of Kennett, MO; two brothers, Jimmy Rose and Bobby Rose of St. Louis and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2021 in the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.  Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 2:00PM in the Evergreen Cemetery of Chester, IL.  Rev. Matt McFadden will be the speaker.

Obituary Preview: Vernon Henry Osborne, 79, of Williamsville, MO, died Friday, September 17, 2021 at his home with his children by his side.  He was born December 21, 1941 at Shook, MO to the late Cecil and Mary (Gilbreath) Osborne.

He was married to Virginia Linda Chiles on January 18, 1963; to this union three children were born.  Virginia passed away March 23, 2010. Vernon was loved by all who knew him, his friends, and his boss, Jim Cornell.  All of his buddies called him “Tater.”  He loved deer hunting, walking in the woods and visiting with friends.

Vernon is survived by his two sons, Ricky Osborne of Williamsville and Timothy Osborne of Eugene, OR; one daughter, Tammy Ethridge of Williamsville; two sisters, Virgie Nunn of Poplar Bluff and Vernell Luke of Williamsville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Virgil Osborne and one sister, Vernia Lee Brawley.
