Lyons – After a courageous battle with cancer, Shirley passed away on March 26, 2022 at age 68.  She was born in Marlinton, West Virginia to Mary S. Triplett and Hazel B. Fowler.  Shirley was also predeceased by her sister, Margaret Louise Poage and brother Grover Daniel Fowler.

Shirley is survived by her partner, Carl Chalker; children, Kevin M. (Heather) Fowler, John P. Tyson, and Laura E. (Jeff) Schuldt; grandchildren, Stephanie L. (Colby) Wootton, Tyler J. Smaldone, Jeffrey D. Schuldt, Avery S. Smith, Jacob C. Schuldt; great granddaughter, Sophia M. Fowler.

The family of Shirley S. Newland sends a sincere thank you to all who helped in any way during her illness and at the time of her death.  The support, love, and kindness of family and friends carried us all through this very difficult time.

Ontario:  On Saturday, March 12, 2022, Michael T. McGarry passed away at the age of 66 years young. Michael was born to the late Thomas and Hedy "Mueller" McGarry on November 25, 1955 in Rochester, NY. Michael is predeceased by his loving partner  Sharon Perry; sisters Ellen Whitman and Kathleen McGarry. Michael (aka "Santa Claus" due to his curly white hair and stature) is survived by his siblings; sister Patricia (Frank) Mahns of Spencerport; brothers Daniel (Lynda)  and Matthew (Jody) McGarry; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and  friends. He loved big furry dogs and will also be missed by his cat "Kitty". Michael was interested in woodworking as a young man, and this hobby eventually resulted in his ownership of MTM Woodworking.  Michael was also an avid cook, and the owner/operator of  Rochester's Mad Mike's Chicken Wings on South Ave.  He will always be remembered as a loving and caring man.  Michael lived by the motto: "treat everyone equally, rich or poor, young or old".

A service and celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date. Patricia was born on Monday, August 14, 1939 in Waterloo, NY. She married her high school sweetheart, James Montaglione on June 28th 1958. They spent 63 wonderful years together. Patricia held several different jobs throughout her life, the most important one being the raising of her 4 children, and caring for her grandchildren while they were young. She is fondly remembered by many as the “neighborhood” mom who welcomed all her children’s friends with open arms. She and James enjoyed crafting, painting and repurposing items. They spent many years traveling to craft shows throughout the area.

Patricia is survived by her husband James, her children, Christopher (Kelly) of White Lake , MI, Daniel (Nancy) and Amy ( Richard) Ochs of Waterloo, and Aaron of Portland, OR. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Alicia, Josh, Sarah, Jami, Alaina and Sean, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Michael, Zachary, Liliana, Ivy, Avalynn and Emma. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her two sisters, Sandra Manna of Waterloo and Elaine Warren of Sarasota, FL as well as many nieces and nephews.

SODUS: Pauline was the daughter of the late John Jacob Devey and Anna Hoevenar Devey. She was born on the family farm in Joy, NY and attended school there until the family moved to Sodus Village when she was in the 4th grade. Over the years she worked for the local bank, Bushhart’s Farms, and Himes Repair Shop. She then “retired” and worked for the Sodus Free Library for many years. Later in life she volunteered as a Docent at the Sodus Point Lighthouse. Pauline was also an active member of the Sodus Garden Club, The Council of Churches, Order of the Eastern Star, Sodus Rural Cemetery Board and the Sodus Presbytarian Church. She was recognized by the Sodus Chamber of Commerce as it’s Citizen of the Year for 2007.

Pauline’s parents emigrated to the US in 1908 and left their young son Isaac behind in the care of relatives. Dutch was the main language spoken in the house until her father’s passing in the 1950s. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Sodus High School Class of 1943. Her graduation speech included that “Many of the boys of the class will go into the armed forces and that the girls would do their part on the home front. In order to win a just and lasting peace”; she added, “They must realize that racial prejudices must be abolished, that a plan of education must be made and carried out, that we must realize our interdependency with each other and that we in America must appreciate instead of just taking for granted the freedom we have in this democracy.”

Canandigua: Age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. She was born July 22,1947 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Ralph and Dorothy Pierce. Darnell graduated from Oyster River H.S., Durham, NH, Class of 1965.  Darnell joined the army after high school. After the military she went on to marry and have 5 children. She maintained a 30 year career, as a live in home care provider for six elderly psychiatric patients; working closely with her mother-in-law for many of those years. She then went on to work at the Canandaigua Medical Group until her retirement. Darnell loved life. She lived every day to the fullest. She loved playing scrabble & cribbage with her sister April, and shopping at the Wind Mill with her other sister Brenda. She also enjoyed playing bingo, trivial pursuit, and dominos with friends and family. She was excellent at puzzles and crossword puzzle solving. Darnell crocheted up a storm, whether it was creating a beautiful baby blanket, afghan or her famous scrubbers. She enjoyed making a gift for any, and everyone, that could be enjoyed for a lifetime.  Darnell had many friends she enjoyed and cherished. She had a huge heart that she wore on her sleeve. Darnell filled so many lives with smiles, giggles, and was happy to lend an open ear. She will be deeply missed. Until we meet again you will forever be in our hearts.

Darnell is predeceased by her parents; brother Harlan Pierce, and niece Heidi Pierce.  She is survived by her 2 sisters April Parson and Brenda LaSante; 5 children, David Gibbs, Tracey Coon, Melody Erb, Kerri Gibbs, and Daniel Gibbs; grandchildren, Clinton Coon, Justin Coon, Kyle Gibbs, Derrick Gibbs, Halie Johnson,  Christopher Gordon, Chloe Erb, Olivia Gibbs, Chase Ames, Ian Ames, Eliana Gibbs, and  Ari Gibbs; great grandchildren, Ethan Coon and Courtney Coon; with 3 more on their way.

Diane Mae Tunison, (née Paulley), age 81, of Interlaken died at Geneva General Hospital on Friday, October 29, 2021.  Diane was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on September 6, 1940 the daughter of the late Gordon and Frances Paulley.  In addition to her parents, Diane was recently preceded in death by her beloved siblings; David Paulley and Donna Hammond.  She was raised in Osage, WY, where her machinist father moved with his bride from back East to work in the oil fields and raise a family. Along with her brother and father, Diane learned to fly. After attending Colorado’s Women’s College, Diane met and in 1963 married Lt. John T. Tunison, of Interlaken, NY. Diane had three children as an Army wife, living in Hawaii, Georgia, Thailand and New Jersey during John’s 20-year career. Following his retirement as a Major, they returned to the Tunison family farm in Interlaken. John passed away on Diane’s birthday, September 6, 2017.

Diane is survived by her children, Julie R. Pleckan of Interlaken, David N. Tunison of Interlaken, and Jeffrey R. Tunison of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Sierra and Kurt Pleckan and Emily and Liliana Tunison.

Char was born on April 21st, 1965, in Waterloo New York, the daughter of Douglas J. and Ruth TenEyck. She enjoyed her career of 16 years in the travel and tourism industry and 18 years for Wayne County, NY. From very early on in life, she was always known for having an adventurous soul and loved traveling, dancing and boating. In her time, she had been to Hong Kong, Hawaii, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Jamaica, and Bermuda, to name a few. Among all, her most beloved place was Anna Maria Island, FL. There is no doubt she was never afraid to explore and learn new things. She was the kind of person who could make new friends everywhere she went with her outgoing, upbeat, positive personality and maintained those friendships whether near or far.

She always had a huge heart and a special way with people that could put a smile on anyone's face. The kind of person who could light up a room the moment she walked in. She was a loving and supportive wife, an inspiring and caring mother, and a gift to all those who knew her. Some of her best-known phrases were "Don't be negative, let's talk about something positive" and "Do big things!" The world truly was a better place as a result of her presence, and she will be deeply missed.

Char is survived by her husband of 30 years James Helch, daughter Candice, son Carter, grandchildren Kailey, Jace, and Elizabeth, siblings: Ione (Lee) Pollard, Douglas D. TenEyck, Sandy (Barry) Virts, Randy (Merri) TenEyck, Connie (Greg) Donk, Heath TenEyck, her loving mother Ruth TenEyck and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her father Douglas J. TenEyck, and in-laws Augustus F. and Joan M. Helch.

Char's family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Lipson Cancer Center in Clifton Springs and Rochester Regional Hospice staff for their exceptional care and compassion and to all that sent cards, well wishes, and support during this difficult time.

Anita M. Case-Figgins - January 05, 1971 - July 08, 2021

Obituary Preview: On January 5, 1971 we were blessed by Anita’s arrival into this world. If asked to describe her in  one word, I think most of us would agree that FIERCE would be at the top of the list. Fierce because  she was intense and ferocious but had a heartfelt and powerful intensity about her. With this  fierceness, she faced being a daughter, sibling, wife, mother and friend head on. Others would use  words like: fearless, hell on wheels, loving, companion and Grand Champion. For all those who  have met her, you probably came away with a first impression that fit into one of these categories: I  love her, I loather her or I don’t know what I think about her—yet. If Anita were here today to hear  these words spoken about her, she would most likely narrow her eyes and her lips would move into  a smirk—not really a smile but not really a frown either. In this look you could see the warrior that  was within. She would not back down from anyone or anything—just ask cancer.

After her family, Anita’s greatest joy was her love of horses. Anita’s love and harmony with a horse  was unparalleled. Anita owned 5 horses in her lifetime. It is with them that she found the peace we  all search for. In a world where chaos reigns supreme in our everyday lives, Anita could walk into a  barn and with each passing step down the hay strewn floor, you could see the stress melt away from  her soul. For those of us who were lucky enough to see her with Norman, you watched as two  halves came together to make a whole. When she mounted up and began her walk, trot and canter  it was like watching a perfectly choreographed equine ballet. The movements seemed effortless, full  of grace, poise and on some very special days—simply magical. At a young age Anita fell off of her  horse during a competition. After making sure Anita was not injured, a man helped Anita get back  on her horse and told her she had two options. She could ask to be excused or she could ask to  pick up where she left off. Without hesitation Anita said she wanted to pick up where she left off.  That decision would become a creed she would come to live by: If life gets you down—get up and  pick up where you left off and show them just what you are made of. For those who may not have had the privilege to know Anita well, she grew up in the Winton/ Blossom area of Rochester, NY. She attended East High School and Monroe Community College.  Anita embraced her step into adulthood in 1990 when she began work at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Here  Anita excelled and dedicated 20 years of hard work showing her commitment and perseverance. As  luck would have it during her early years with BJ’s, she would meet Richard L. Figgins. A beautiful  friendship grew into more and on August 3, 1996 they were joined together by blood, bone and  spirit. On April 14, 1999 they were rewarded by one of the greatest gifts born of love, a daughter  Mikaela Marie. Upon Mikaela’s arrival Anita spoke these heartfelt words as an expression of her joy  at becoming a mother: “Love you everyday and twice on Sunday!”

During her 50 years, Anita embraced her love of family, friends, pets, music, horses, collectibles,  crafting, travel and the Renaissance and Scottish/Irish Celtic Festivals. She made friends wherever  she went. Anita M. Case-Figgins will surely be missed by all. Not a single day will pass that we will  not remember her. She has impacted each and every one of us with her light, love and spirit.  Family, close friends and co-workers will surely miss her extraordinary baking skills and nobody will  ever take away her title of “Goodie Goddess”. Anita is predeceased by her parents Arthur S. Case  Sr. and Alice F. Case (Ake), her brother Arthur S. Case Jr. sister Lori Case and her grandparents. She  is survived by her husband Richard L. Figgins, daughter Mikaela M. Figgins, sister Rebeca Kates  (Case), nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anita’s talents were truly limitless as she even found a way to help the masses travel through time.  One look at her in July and August and you find yourself wandering beside her and straight into  1585. To a quaint village called Warwick where citizens not far from London find themselves  enjoying a day of play and feasting. As fall drifts into winter and December approaches, Anita could  show you how to enjoy the early 19th century and life according Charles Dickens on a memorable  Christmas Eve.

For those who loved her, their lives were forever changed on July 9, 2021. Anita left us to live among  the sky and become one of the brightest shining stars. She waged an epic battle one that even  Lagertha a Viking Warrior would be proud of, as she battled with abdominal cancer for over 6 years.  Anita passed peacefully at her home in North Rose, NY. There are many who helped Anita face her  long and arduous battle. The doctors and staff at Rochester General Hospital and The Lipson  Cancer Center. Many thanks go out to: Dr. M. Patel, Dr. M. McNally, Dr. S. Ettinghausen, Dr. Riggs,  PA Sarah Hoslop and Hospice of Wayne County. Anita was so amazed by all those who shared their love, care and support by visiting her at both her  home and the hospital, helping her get to treatments, checking in via Facebook, texting, phone calls  and heartfelt cards. She would never allow us to see her leaving as an ending. Anita would see her  life as an accomplishment at just how very far she had come. She would not want us to wallow in  our sadness and grief. Ken adored his 6 Grandchildren, Timothy Flye, Kelly Jo (Flye) Gursslin, Jennifer (Flye) York, Julia (Cronin) Stewart, Sean Cronin and Paul Flye.  He had 7 Great Grandchildren and also several Nieces, Nephews and step Grandchildren.

Ken and Diane enjoyed motorcycling, boating and traveling.  They raised their family in Walworth for 40 years and spent their last 21 years on Sodus Bay.

Ken retired from his career as a Quality Control Engineer from Xerox in 1999.  His celebration of life was held before his death as his family gathered around him in joyful fun on the holiday weekend.
