Obituary Preview: June A. Hefferan, nee Connolly born 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Hedwig Lorbecki and Vincent Connolly passed away on April 1, 2022.  She married the love of her life, Steve Mueller, in 1945 and had two children, a daughter,        Wendy Mertes (Drake) and son, L. Stephen Mueller (Trudy).  After Steve passed away in 1974, she enjoyed 30 years of marriage with Cedric Hefferan.  With him, she had the opportunity to live in Tallahassee, Florida and Franklin, North Carolina.  After Cedric passed away in 2010 she lived with her sister, Chery Smoot, until the time she moved back to Illinois in 2021. In addition to her son, daughter, and sister, she leaves behind two grandchildren, Tyler Mertes (Cory) and Morgan Branson (Mark) and six great grandchildren: Blaike, Melvin, Aida, Vaughn, Liv, and Nolan.  She always bragged that she was responsible for starting the whole family!
She also leaves behind her stepchildren:  Steven Hefferan (Krystal), Brian Hefferan  (Patty), Kevin Hefferan and their children, Mary, Tracy, Kevin, Shannon, Quinn, and Kate.
Mom loved bridge, mahjong, solitaire, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles!  She also loved her manhattans, martinis and wine!  She was a party girl to the end and was a loyal and loving friend to many.  She was a crafter, a golfer, and a gardener and enjoyed life to the fullest.  She was also never without a dog:  Penny, Jinx, GiGi, Misty, Tushu, Scampi, Annie, and Charlie.  Her family will miss her and her “feisty” personality.

Darrel L Waddelow - January 12, 1929 - March 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mt. Morris, IL, Darrel L. Waddelow, age 93, passed away on March 29, 2022 at Pinecrest Terrace, Mt. Morris, IL.
Darrel was born on January 12, 1929 in Mt. Morris, IL, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Marston) Waddelow.
He married Donna L. Fleer on June 23, 1951 in the United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris, IL.
Darrel graduated from Mt. Morris High School Class of 1947. He was a talented athlete in football, basketball and track.  After high school he served in the ECB (Engineer Combat Battalion) of the U.S. 432nd Army Corp of Engineers in Germany during the Korean War.  After returning home from the Army, Darrel became a Pressman for Kable Printing for 43 years, retiring on February 1, 1991.
He was a member of Disciples United Methodist Church, American Legion of Mt. Morris, Oregon VFW Post #8739 and the Mt. Morris Senior Center.  He served as a board member of the Rockford Bell Credit Union for 15 years.
When Darrel’s five children were growing up he enjoyed attending all their school sporting events and later spending time with his grandchildren.  Darrel and Donna loved to travel and looked forward to their annual trips to Florida.  Darrel was a handyman.  The Methodist Church was Darrel’s second home, as he provided maintenance for the church.  He had a great sense of humor and was known for his “typical dad jokes”.    Darrel enjoyed researching family genealogy and was knowledgeable of Mt. Morris history.  He was patriotic and proudly displayed the American flag.  In 2015, he went on an Honor Flight with his son Douglas to the nation’s capital. Darrel is survived by his wife: Donna, Mt. Morris, IL; Sons:  Douglas (Annette) Waddelow, Grayslake, IL; David (Marsha) Waddelow, Santa Ana, Costa Rica; Daniel (Crystal) Waddelow, Greencastle, PA.  Daughters: Darla (Rex) Hamel, San Carlos, Panama; DeAnne (Adam) Auld, Browns Summit, NC.  12 Grandchildren;
7 Great-Grandchildren; Several nephews and nieces; and special sister-in-law Janet McNiven.    Darrel is predeceased by his parents; Brother: Donald; Sisters:  Fern Smith and JoAnne Cook.

Virginia A Hough - August 18, 1930 - March 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mt. Morris, IL, Virginia Angle Hough, age 91, passed away on March 25, 2022 at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris, IL.
Ginny was born on August 18, 1930, on the family farm in Buckeye Township, Cedarville, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Velma (Lowe) Angle.
She married Robert “Bob” Hough Jr. in Cedarville on April 6, 1951, at the Cedarville Methodist Church. Ginny and Bob met through the church at a Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) event.
Ginny attended school at Mt. Hope, the one room school on the farm, for which her grandfather donated the land.
She graduated from Dakota High School Class of 1948, graduated from Deaconess in Freeport as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse at Cook County Hospital Chicago, Deaconess Hospital Freeport, for Dr. Boulder in Forreston, and Pinecrest Manor in Mt. Morris and was one of the first employees for Ogle County Hospice in Oregon. She also helped her husband in the family business Hough Hardware Co.
Ginny was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, rural Forreston. She was a 4H leader for the Jolly Jane’s Club, was a Cub Scout Leader and was a member of Ogle County Home Extension.
She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and was a proud member of the West Branch Ladies Aide Society. She always cooked and baked as if the threshers were coming. Her ham balls and parker house rolls were legendary.
She truly was “Granny 1” which she proudly displayed on her licenses plates for nearly 50 years.
Ginny is survived by her son, Gerry Hough, of Mt. Morris; daughter, Jane (Wayne) Atteberry, Belvidere; grandchildren, Chris (Jason) McCoy, Milwaukee, WI, Rob (Lynnette) Hough IV, Mt. Morris, Rick Hough, Mt. Morris, Joselyn Hough, Charlotte, North Carolina, MacKenna (Eric) Winterton, Glen Ellyn, Michael (Allison) Atteberry, Greenfield, Wisconsin. and Geoff  Atteberry, Morton; six great grandchildren, Benjamin McCoy and Samuel McCoy, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rebecca Hough and RG Hough V, Mt. Morris, Peyton Boyd, Mt. Morris and Corbin Atteberry of Morton, IL.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; three brothers; infant daughter, Susan Kay; son, Timothy John; daughter-in-law, Janice.

Brown Jr in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1990; Together they had 5 children.
Rose was a devout Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Church.  She was a hair dresser for many years and her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her children: Kathy (Dan) Dorner, Julie Elliott, Aaron (Teresa) Brown, and Darby (Linda) Brown; grandchildren: Duffy (Nance) Dorner, Keelie (Marty) Pugliese, A.W. Brown, Jenny Matticks, Taylor (Ryan) Poulter, Tierney (Dustin) Nelson, Conner Brown, Shayla Brown, Sira (Brent) Gaffey, Jacob Dorner, Efraim Young, Killian (Ali) Dorner, Aidan Brown, Macaire Brown, Brodie Henson, Bailey Dorner, Lindsay (Jeff) Rabuck; many great grandchildren; and her sister: June.

Archie C Thompson - February 07, 1931 - March 04, 2022

Obituary Preview: Oregon, IL, Archie C Thompson, age 91, left this earthly life on Friday March 4, 2022 in his home with his wife and daughter by his side.
Arch was born on February 7, 1931 in Elk City, OK, the son of Samuel Lloyd & Eda Lois (Ross) Thompson.  After spending his first few years in Western Oklahoma during the “Dust Bowl”, his family moved to Eastern Oklahoma where he lived until high school graduation.  He then joined the Air Force where he learned aviation mechanics, specializing in the new field of jet engines.  This led to a dream career of being a flight engineer for American Airlines for 35 years.
After the Air Force, Arch returned home to Tahlequah, OK where he met the love of his life, Anne Cole, and they were married within six months.  Together they had three wonderful children, and lived in Kansas City, MO, Dallas TX suburbs, Chicago, IL suburbs, Buffalo, NY, Lake Whitney, TX, and Northern Illinois.
In July 2001, during his wife’s surgery, Arch was introduced to Jesus, where he said he went through a conversion and experienced the greatest day of his life.  Ever since that day he has served God and his Church.
Arch is survived by his loving wife: Anne, Oregon, IL; daughter: Laurie Friemuth, Oregon, IL; son: James Thompson, Ashland, VA; grandchildren: Nick, Max, and Emily Thompson, all of Ashland, VA.
He is predeceased by his parents; daughter: Cheri Thompson (1983); granddaughter: Delaney Thompson (2020); and son in law: Bob Friemuth (2020). Services will be held on Saturday March 12, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Shari owned and operated Smart Wear Dress Shop in Mt. Morris; before she worked for Plum Electric & Kable News Company, where she retired.  She treasured her boys and her grandchildren more than anything.  Shari enjoyed golfing, gardening, and coloring.  She was tenacious player of Aggravation and Scrabble games.  Shari was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL and the Red Hat Society.
Shari is survived by her husband: Mike Ghibellini, Mt. Morris, IL; son: Joseph (Missy) Ghibellini, Mt. Morris, IL; step mother: Ursela Williams, Oglesby, IL; grandchildren: Kennedy (Tyler) Ghibellini-Burkhart, Oregon, IL; John Ghibellini, Mt. Dick served as President of the Mt. Morris Savings & Loan for 26 years retiring on July 20, 1993.  He was a life member of the NRA, Illinois State Rifle Association, and the Tri-County Gun Club.
Dick is survived by his children: Philip Thomas (Melissa) Short, Mt. Morris, IL and Nicole Marie (Randy Caronna) Short, Norco, LA; grandchildren: Erin, Lily, and Keil Groves, Daltan and Skylar Short; great grandchildren: Alicia Blake, Journey Groves, Christian Rollette, Brock Groves, and Dakotah Groves.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, great grandchild: Gabriel Groves; 6 brothers: Arthur, Thomas, Vincent, Robert, Bernard, and Edward; and 5 sisters: Anna Pirnat, Marie Feuss, Dorothy Woodford, Bernice Hanson, and Leona Van Drasek.

Paul owned and operated Smitty’s Ice Cream and Paul Smith Accounting from 1983 until his death.  He cherished his clients for 40+ years.  He was a member of the Let Freedom Ring Committee, Mt. Morris School Board, Good Fellows, Knights of Columbus 4th degree member, and the Mt. Morris Lions, and he belonged to St Mary Catholic Church, Oregon, IL and St Edward Catholic Church, Rockford, IL.  Paul loved his traveling and his time with his children, grandchildren, and family.
Paul is survived by his children: Peter (Julie) Smith, Rockford, IL; Brian (Paula) Smith, Belvidere, IL; Kevin (Lynn) Smith, Louisville, KY; and Robert (Erin) Smith, Schaumburg, IL; 7 grandchildren: Jessica, Stephen, Maria, Sarah, Ezra, Helena, and Kyla; brother: Richard Smith, Portland, OR; sisters: Margaret Scholl, Reno, NV and Irene Sarkisian, Rockford, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Judy attended Mt. Morris Schools and received her GED in 1973.  She went on to nursing school and completed her LPN program in 1982.
She was employed at Pinecrest Nursing Home (CNA and LPN) for 26 years and retired in 1999.  She married in 1959 and gave birth to three children.
Judy is survived by her children:  Kathy (Tom) Lee, Mt. Morris, IL and Randy (Sheri) Barnhart, Mt. Morris, IL.  3 grandchildren:  Joshua (Angelica) Lee, Jacob Lee, and Thomas (Jessica) Lee. Also, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.  2 Brothers:  Gene Sweeney, Beloit, WI and Dave Sweeney, Lake Carroll, IL.  1 sister:  Pat Burd, Mt. Morris, IL.
Judy is preceded in death by her mother Ida in 1989, father Wilbur in 1994, and daughter Rhonda in 1972.  Also, a sister Joyce Shelton, sister-in-law Julie Sweeney, and brother Richard Sweeney.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Evangelical Free Church, Mt. Morris, IL with luncheon to follow.

Joe was born to Fritz and Joanie Brinker on October 12, 1959 in Phoenix, Arizona.
He spent his life in Mt Morris, Illinois, where he graduated from Mt Morris High School and worked many good years at the M&M Super Market.  He endlessly enjoyed following sports, his favorite Packers, and life in Mt. Morris.
Joe is survived by his brother Dr. Jeffrey R Brinker and wife Suzette of Gulf Breeze Florida, his sister Peggy Regan and brother in law Chris Regan of Glendale, California, and nieces, Lisette, Mariette and Winona.
A Memorial gathering is planned for the Spring – details forthcoming.
Interment at Plainview Cemetery, Mt Morris Illinois.

Morris, IL, Gerald K ”Jerry”  Zellers, age 79, passed away on Saturday February 12, 2022 in Rock River Hospice and Home, Sterling, IL.  Gerald was born April 1, 1942 in Rockford, IL, the son of Kenneth & Lucille (Moats) Zellers.  He graduated from Mt. Morris High School.  Gerald served in the US Army.  He worked for HA International from 1984 until 2004.
Gerald was a member of the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren, a member of the Mt. Morris Senior Center, and he loved his time at Shell with the guys, was loud watching the Cubs, watching Nascar, Family Feud, Three’s Company, going to DQ for a caramel or hot fudge sundae, he was always smiling, he was a laid back all around nice guy, and most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Gerald is survived by his daughters: Jerilyn (Brian) Kilday, Polo, IL and Jodie (John) Barncord, Shannon, IL; son in law: Chad Hayenga, Oregon, IL; 9 grandchildren: Heather Roop, Brittany Popham, Skyler Barncord, Hayleigh Barncord, Tyler Hayenga, Chase Hayenga, Kaila Bahr, Dustin Bahr, and Faith Zellers; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Lynn (Maxine) Zellers, New Port, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; children: Gerald (Jerry) Zellers Jr and Jamie Hayenga.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 18, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren with Pastor Rodney Caldwell officiating.  Burial will be held in Silver Creek Cemetery, Mt. Ethel M Richardson - September 26, 1938 - February 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ethel M. Richardson a long-time resident of Mt. Morris IL, passed away on the morning of February 12, 2022.  She was at home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born September 26, 1938, in Yankeetown IN.  She was the oldest of 10 children.
She is survived by immediate family Jeffrey L. Richardson, Mary Beth York, and Jon D. Richardson, as well as her extended family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  This extended family goes beyond the family tree, many friends over the years have become family.  Ethel and her husband Bobbie made their home a welcoming center of love and kindness for decades.
She is preceded by her husband Bobbie L. Richardson, and her parents Richard C. Pease and Ada Jane (Webster) Pease.
Ethel moved to Northern Illinois in 1958, living with her close friend and cousin Wilma.  They both came north for better job opportunities, and by the sounds of her and Wilma's stories, to also have fun adventures.  Through the brother of Wilma's future husband Ed Ramsey , Ethel met Bobbie, the love of her life.  They soon married, having a double ceremony with Wilma (Bates) and Bill Ramsey, during a tornado, just another one of the many adventures.  Ethel and Wilma remained close to her final day.
Ethel worked for the telephone company and then for Watt Publishing Co. in Mt. Morris.  She made many friends over the years and enjoyed bowling on the Watt Publishing Team and going to many tournaments.
Her focus was her family and friends.  She and Bobbie would enthusiastically travel around the USA and Canada visiting friends and family. Visitation will be at Finch Funeral Home in Mt. Morris IL on Monday February 21,2022 at 10 am followed by her funeral at 11 am.  The commitment ceremony will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens Hillcrest, IL, north of Rochelle.  A luncheon afterwards at the Rochelle Moose at 311 N. Main St Rochelle, IL 61068
The Family requests donations to be sent in Ethel's name to St Jude Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.

(Snyder) Motter.  She married Harold “Andy” Martin on August 19, 1951 in Adeline, IL.
Darlene was a life long Leaf River resident.  She was employed by Watt Publishing Co. in Mt. Morris and as a bookkeeper for the Leaf River School District.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved travelling, camping, cooking, and baking.
Darlene is survived by her children:  Vickie (Jim) Myers, Forreston; Andy (Kim) Martin, Mt. October 27, 1978, Don married Marcia Allen. Upon his retirement, he and his wife purchased an RV and spent the next eight years traveling. Don was an avid fisherman. He loved Nascar and was a devoted Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent hours working in his yard and garden.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia, sister, Colleen Woods and very special family members David, Becky, Jake and Abby Duke and his faithful puppy, Daisy Duke who was always at his side. He was predeceased by both his parents, his brother Dwayne Baugous of California and his stepson, Rick Haas.

Linda worked at Central Quality Metal in Polo before it shut down. She then worked at Casey’s General Store in Polo for many years and finally being a homemaker before retiring.
Linda was an avid baker and loved to cook for many.  She loved to read and enjoyed puzzles with friends.  Most of all she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and watching them play sports.
Linda is survived by her three daughters; Myndi (Rob) Fletcher, Lisa Patton, Brandi (Brian) Cisketti, seven grandchildren; Marissa (Drew) Giedd, Lilly Patton, Noah Patton, Haley Cisketti, Breanna Cisketti, Kylie Cisketti, MaKayla Cisketti and one great grandson, Bearett Giedd.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, one brother Dick McAuliffe, and one granddaughter Cierra RaNae Fogle.

Obituary Preview: Vernon Franklin Wright, age 91, passed away on Saturday January 29, 2022 in Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, IL.  He was born on April 26, 1930 in Clinton, IA, the son of William F. and Beeda (Swafford) Wright.  Vernon married Evelyn T. North on September 26, 1948 in Clinton, IA.  They were married for 46 years before Evelyn’s passing in 1994.  Vernon then married  Frances Black July 22, 1995.  They were married for 18 years until her passing in 2013.
Vernon served in the United States National Guard from 1949 to 1952, being honorably discharged.  He was a Corporal in the Service Battery during the Korean War era, a part of the 556 Artillery Battery in Clinton, IA.
He was a member of the Pine Creek Independent Church where he was the Head Elder and Song Leader for 50 plus years.
Vernon had an infectious smile and laugh, always welcoming those he met.
Vernon is survived by his five sons: William F (Victoria) of Dixon; Jack (Late/Patsy) of Manlius; Kevin D (Denise) of Mt. Morris; Orville of Dixon; and Matthew L (Sue) of Woodward, IA; four daughters: Beeda (Late/Fred) Hatfield of Alicia, AR; Miriam (Daniel) Hunter of Rockford; Deborah (Rhojean) Llanas of Ada, OH; one sister: Doris Dohse of Clinto, IA; 25 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Evelyn; second wife Frances; one infant son: Timothy Wright; and one daughter: Janet (Wright) Jasper.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 4, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. in Pine Creek Independent Church, with Pastor Ryan Jasper officiating.  Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Johnson, age 87, passed away in his home on January 17, 2022 in Oregon, IL.  Robert was born on December 13, 1934 in Dixon, IL; the son of Harold I. & Helen (Rippberger) Johnson.  He graduated from Oregon High School Class of 1952, and he attended DePauw University.  He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.  Robert married Kathleen A. Swan on July 6, 1957 in Mt. Morris, IL.  Robert worked as an Insurance and Real Estate Broker retiring on February 28, 1986.
Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oregon, IL, and he was also a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Robert loved to fish in Northern Wisconsin and Canada. Robert enjoyed many years of traveling with Kathy. Bob’s favorite destination was “up to the lake” whether he was sitting on the shore of Lac Vieux Desert enjoying the view or out on the boat always catching more fish than anyone else, Bob was in his happy place. Bob’s yard was his pride and joy, he spent many hours keeping it perfect.  Bob and Kathy enjoyed this perfection as they spent hours on their back deck playing 26.  He also loved to golf where in 1965 he played an exhibition golf match with Jack Nicklaus sponsored by Smith Oil Company at the Dixon Country Club. He also in 2005 was in the 1st year group inducted into the Lincoln Highway Golf Hall of Fame.  He was 16 times Oregon Golf Club Champion and he had 11 holes in one, most importantly he passed on his love for golf to his family.  Robert’s number one priority was still the time with his family. Family was number 1 for Bob, his final words of wisdom was for each of his family members  to follow his lead and “live a good life.”
Robert is survived by his wife: Kathleen Johnson, Oregon, IL; children: Richard (Laurie) Johnson, Phelps, WI, Michael D. Johnson, Salt Lake City, UT, and Cynthia (Tim) Baade, Roscoe, IL; 4 grandchildren: Eric Baade, Meghan Baade, Matthew Baade, and Rebecca (Casey Mauth) Johnson.

Navy from 1955 to 1958.  LeRoy worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 33 years, starting his career as a letter carrier in South Beloit Illinois and retiring as Postmaster of Sterling Illinois.
LeRoy dearly loved his family and visits from his children and grandchildren.  He treasured family vacations with his wife, Sue, and children and grandchildren.   He enjoyed and was known for his wonderful cooking!  LeRoy was an avid golfer.  After his retirement, he spent many years volunteering at the Mt. Morris Moose Club.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Roger (Riley) Comins, Oregon IL; daughter Tara (Jim) Miller, Prophetstown IL; daughter Lori Comins, Beloit WI; grandchildren, Joseph Harriett, Owen and Ella Miller, Bishop and Kairi Comins; sister Jenny Garber, Beloit WI; sister Mary Hager, Blue Diamond NV, brother-in-law Thomas (Monica) Lynch and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born in Freeport, IL on April 10, 1934, the daughter of Paul and Olive Greene. She went to Manchester College in Indiana and married Harold Victor Baker on August 14, 1954.
Uldine cleaned turkeys for several years for holiday celebrations, and also farmed with Harold and the rest of the family until they retired in the mid 90s. She also worked in housekeeping at Pinecrest Manor and as an operator at the phone office in Oregon, IL.
She was an avid traveler, and she enjoyed eating out, going to movies, and attending plays. She was a voracious reader and loved all kinds of books. She also was a talented artist, who enjoyed oil painting and drawing. She loved to go roller skating, and met her husband Harold at the White Pines Roller Rink. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a constant fixture at their games, plays, concerts, and just hanging out.
Uldine is survived by her son, Bill (Susie) Baker, her daughter Barbara (Tim) Krehl, grandchildren Brandon Burr, Shannon (Luke) Cochran, great-granddaughters Marceline and Fiona Cochran, and other grandchildren Marie (Kline) Miller, Renee Baker, Cheyenne Krehl and Alex Krehl.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, daughter Linda Burr, and son-in-law Melvin Burr.
There is a celebration of life being planned for June or July 2022.

Morris High School class of 1957.  David served in the United States Army.  David married his loving wife, Sylvia Thomas on May 14, 1961; and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past May.
David is survived by his wife: Sylvia Saunders, Mt. Morris, IL; 3 children: Laurie Dawn (Joe) Redfield, Rio Vista, CA; Todd (Amal) Saunders, Davie, FL; and Gary David Saunders, Lombard, IL; 3 grandchildren: Haley Krause, Thomas Saunders, and Emma Saunders; 2 great grandchildren: Sadii and Kit Krause.  Also, surviving 2 nephews, David and Steve Cassidy, and a niece, DeAnne (Cassidy) Youssefi and their children.  David was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Dolores (Saunders) Cassidy.
Dave was always involved in his children’s activities, coaching and attending all their games and events.  He was very proud of their accomplishments.
Dave worked in the printing departments of Kable Printing, Alpha Omega Printing, and Donnelly printing in Mendota.  While serving in the National Guard, his unit was sent to Desert Storm and was involved in Desert Shield.    Following his retirement Dave enjoyed training his two Border Collies in Agility.  He and Sylvia attended many weekends of Agility Trials.  Due to Dave’s training and patience and two smart Border Collies, Tess and Buddy, the blue ribbons began to pile up.
Services will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Rodney Caldwell officiating.  Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL.  Visitation will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021 in the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren from 10:00 A.M. until service time.  Covid19 precautions will be followed at the church, please wear a mask. Obituary Preview: Carl J. Nelson, 93, Mt. Morris, IL. passed peacefully to eternal life the morning of December 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. Carl was born on August 5, 1928 to Carl G and Eda W. Johnson Nelson in Chicago, IL.  He graduated from Senn High School, Chicago and attended Northwestern University, Evanston. He married Leona A. Hartje at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, his home church, in Chicago on October 9, 1954, where Leona served as a parish worker. Carl served in WW II (volunteered for duty) and the Korean Conflict (drafted) where he attained the rank of corporal before his honorable discharge in 1953. Carl and Leona moved to Mt. Morris in 1960 where they raised their three children, Beth, David and Rick on the farm. In conjunction with farming, Carl had pursued and led a successful career in the television and film industry with numerous commercials, films and multi-media events to his credit. His career began in 1948 with Wilding Studios in Chicago. He later joined Kling studios followed by Studio Seven as President and Producer and Film Faire with work on location from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. He retired from the industry in 1991 from his company in Harvard, IL though he continued to volunteer as a videographer and editor for his many charitable and volunteer work and organizations. He served on the Boards of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, The Chicago Farmers (President), Lutheran Brotherhood, Ogle County 4-H Foundation, Northern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America stewardship committee, and the Village of Progress (President).He was a member of the Leaf River American Legion, Ogle County Farm Bureau (50 plus years) and volunteered with the Ogle County Sheriff’s Association. Carl’s faith-filled life led him to serve at St. James Lutheran on the church council, as a Sunday School teacher, Luther League sponsor for many Luther League conventions around the country, church usher and as the consummate acolyte instructor.
Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leona; daughter, Beth Nelson (John) Chase, and sons, David (Gretchen) Nelson and Richard (Michelle) Nelson. Grandchildren; Brittany (Nate) Drozd, Craig Nelson, Josh (Emily) Nelson, Derrick Nelson, Trevor (Sarah Harris) Nelson, Johannah (Tim) Coates, Jocelyn Chase and Abi (Basil) El-Ghazzawy. Great grandchildren; Lauren, Annabelle, Natalie, Nathan and Nelson Drozd, Chloe El-Ghazzawy and Jasper Coates. And numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Carl was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl and Eda, siblings and their spouses: Wendell (Betty) Nelson, Lorraine (John) Rabette, Marlene (Dean) Nelson and Frankie Nelson. His parents in law, Ernest and Rose Hartje, sister/brother in law, Rogene (Hartje) and Al Poppen; daughter in law, Lois Nelson, and nephew, Mark Poppen.
