He was born on December 13, 1940, in San Pedro, Floridablanca, Pampanga, Philippines to the late Vicente Manalansan and Guillerma Lazo. His journey was driven by his passion and love for family, and his desire to provide a better life for his family and loved ones. The lessons he taught us, the moments we all share, and his legacy of hard work, sacrifice, perseverance, generosity, selflessness, kindness, and unconditional love will live on in all of us.
Ricardo graduated from Pampanga State Agricultural University in Magalang, Philippines with the intention of maintaining his family roots as a generational farmer. However, due to his desire to seek a better life and provide for his family, Ricardo made the decision to leave his family in the Philippines in pursuit of the American dream. He was enlisted into the United States Armed Forces in 1965 at Naval Station Sangley Point, Philippines. He proudly and distinctly served 30 years in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as Mess Management Specialist First Class in 1995. In addition to his distinguished military service career, Ricardo worked two jobs simultaneously. He worked 24 years for the Duval County School Board from January 1987 and retired in June 2011 and worked 34 years for the Navy Exchange Service Command and retired in January 2021.
On November 28, 1968, Ricardo married his best friend and soulmate, Leticia Rodriguez. He was a devoted husband and father and was predeceased by his wife Leticia on April 7, 1986. Following his wife’s untimely death, he continued and successfully raised their two children on his own exhibiting the remarkable strength and resilience needed to provide the stability, emotional support, and a safe environment for himself and his children. His strength as a single parent was a testament to the love and dedication he had for his children. He never remarried, and we take comfort in knowing that Ricardo has reunited with his one true love, Leticia, in everlasting life.
Ricardo enjoyed working, being active, cooking, helping, and serving others. He especially loved eating Filipino dishes and going out to eat to different restaurants with his family. He had a heartwarming smile that could brighten up anyone’s day, was a jokester, and brought joy and laughter to family and friends. He loved being outdoors; walking, jogging, tending to his yard, and gardening. He also loved beach days, going to the movies, watching the Jacksonville Jaguars, and shopping and taking walks with his daughter-in-law Renee.
Ricardo was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 18 years, Leticia Rodriguez Manalansan; brother, Romeo Manalansan; and sister-in-law, Herminia Morales Manalansan.

Ricardo had many nicknames, and his family and close friends affectionately called him “Apung Hapon”, “Carding”, and/or “Abe” (meaning friend). He was also known as “Mr. Ricky” by friends and co-workers. We just called him Dad. We love you Dad, and we will miss you always.

He was energetic, high spirited, one of the happiest people ever, and was known for his contagious smile. He loved his friends, anyone that knew Maurice knew that his friends were absolutely everything to him outside of his family. He loved being at the beach, playing video games, hanging out with his friends, and really enjoyed his fancy steak dinners. Maurice is known for his love of speed. He was constantly doing something to his car and motorcycle. His car was the most important thing in his life…LOL. “Maurice loved going to fancy sushi almost every night no matter how broke we all were. When there was nothing to do, spending money was always the option. Besides that, he was the only person that would bring the party to the top, even while dancing on the counters.” Love Always, Emilee. “Maurice was a very caring, loving, and concerned older/younger brother, son, and grandson. He even thought he was older than the oldest. He always loved his family and was most DEFINITELY the man of both his grandma’s house and home. Not even Tony was bigger than him in his eyes. He swore he was the biggest. No matter what the circumstances were, he made sure to let his family know he loved them.” Love Always, McKayla

Noble grew up in Quaker Hill, Connecticut and attended Waterford High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Cochran, in 1963 (and was so thrilled to recently celebrate their 60th anniversary!). He began his career as a Chemical Operator at Pfizer in Groton, Connecticut, in 1966 and retired in 1998, serving 32 years. Because he was so thorough, he was often the go-to person to train new employees in his department. In his younger years, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Quaker Hill Fire Department, and later in life spent many hours helping to build homes with Habitat for Humanity. Noble was a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. It was important to him to attend church with his family so that they also would learn about Jesus and grow in their faith. He was a member of Huntington Street Baptist Church in New London, CT, and more recently attended Neptune Baptist Church in Neptune Beach, FL.
A devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, his pride and joy were his family. He loved having heart-to-heart conversations with his daughters and grandchildren, giving thoughtful and wise advice that would of course be sprinkled with plenty of dad / grandpa jokes! He was a kind man with a caring heart who had a wide variety of interests. He was known for being loyal and detail-oriented, and he had a love for learning. In his free time, Noble enjoyed exploring new places and experiences - at 70, he went parasailing! Another love of his was taking road trips with his wife and family. He had a passion for reading true stories, and an interest in everything about cars (especially the older ones). He loved a variety of music, especially bluegrass and old hymns.
Noble is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Palliser, and their daughters Cathy Huffenus (John) and Wendy Coombs (Keith), all of Jacksonville, Florida. He was a proud grandfather to Savannah Lowney, Haley Coombs, Jeslyn Huffenus, and David Huffenus. Noble also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Dr. James Nathan Cole - January 24, 1945 - December 11, 2023

Departed: 12/11/2023 (Atlantic Beach)
Obituary Preview: Cole - Dr. James Nathan (Nat) Cole was born in Norfolk, Virginia on January 24, 1945, and almost 79 years later, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with loving family, friends, and his golden doodle CC by his side, passed into God’s Grace at his residence here in Jacksonville, Florida. Nat was born into humble beginnings. His Father was a Master Plumber/ Steamfitter, his mother a homemaker and seamstress. He never forgot from whence he came. He credited his Father for giving him a strong work ethic; his Mother for his faith in God, and desire to try and always do right. Their gifts were the very hallmark of his being throughout his life, and although he had his fair share of setbacks he always doubled down and found a way right the ship. Nat was the first in his family to pursue a college degree. A lifelong Nole, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Florida State University in April 1967, and after earning a Master’s degree in 1973 at the Baruch College in New York City, returned to FSU to earn his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Government in August 1979. For a number of years Nat taught graduate political science courses as a member of FSU’s adjunct faculty. Nat could often be seen around town driving his prized possession - his customized Nolemobile. It provided an opportunity to make many new friends while gassing her up or picking up takeout at a local restaurant. He always provided opportunities for photo ops, of which there were many. Fittingly he donated her to the Jacksonville Seminole Boosters to raise money for his Noles. Nat was particularly proud of his Naval Service. After college he declined a military deferment, enlisted, and was commissioned a Navy Ensign in February 1968. He went on to serve 30 years active and reserve, retiring in March 1998 as a Navy Captain. During his career he completed three successful command tours, including that of Naval Reserve Intelligence Area Commander for the seven subordinate commands in Florida. He was the recipient of five personal awards for meritorious achievement and service appropriate to his rank. Nat enjoyed a varied civilian professional career as a Fingerprint Technician 2 in the old Florida Sheriffs Bureau. He was a former Special Agent with the Naval Investigative Service, then served in the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, where he was the State’s first Law Enforcement Science Advisor. He went on to head the Governors Highway Safety Commission, then served as the Director of the Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Fire Science Programs, and Director, Northeast Florida Criminal Justice Training Institute at what is now the Florida State College Jacksonville. When Bob Graham was elected Governor of Florida in 1979 Nat was invited to join his senior executive staff as his Public Safety Policy Coordinator, a job he held for four years, and in Graham’s second term Nat concluded his time in state government as one of three Assistant Secretaries leading the Country’s third largest corrections system. After public life Nat established a successful consulting practice which he headed for over 20 years providing business consultancy to owners of architectural, building engineering, general construction, privatized corrections, contract health care, and food service corporations. Nat was active in the Isle of Faith United Methodist Church, where he had served as Chairman of Finance, Church Treasurer, and as a member of the Church Council. He truly loved his Church family and felt blessed by their outpouring of love during his illness. Over the years Nat devoted much of his time and effort to the development of the Church’s Community Engagement Park, which he envisioned as a way for the Church to be a part of and not apart from the community it served. Nat’s recreational passion was golf. Although his skills declined over the years, he was avid in promoting the game. For the last 20 years he was the Commissioner of the Wednesday Senior Golf Gang-some bearing his name, which group is now based at the Jacksonville Beach Municipal Golf Course. Nat often described his job as that of a cat herder, and that unfortunately the cats were all his friends. Nat’s other passion was as a songwriter, something not known but to a few of his close friends. Learning the craft in old age Nat penned over twenty country/Christian/Americana pieces, many giving glimpses into his story, and contemporary issues we all face in life. Nat felt blessed to have two families - one by his prior marriage and another by his second marriage. Whether by bloodline or by law he took great joy in being a part of their growth and accomplishments as they have launched into a brave new world. Nat is predeceased by his parents Nathan Allen and Mary Evelyn Cole, his siblings Jay, Douglas, Michael, and Kathleen (Ellis), and his former wife of 34 years, Kathleen.
Nat is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter Jennifer (Smith), grandson Cole (Smith), nephews, and nieces, Stephen, David (Ellis), Robert, Michelle (Russo), Deborah, Lorraine, three stepsons, Rick, Jonathan, and Zach (Jackson), six step grandsons/granddaughters, Baley (Balke), Bryant, Brynley, Jonathan, Anna Grace, and Julia, Jake, Eli and too many great nieces and nephews and great grandchildren to name.
