Ramona Sue Detweiler - December 15, 1950 - April 26, 2024

Departed: 04/26/2024 (Plain City)
Obituary Preview: Ramona “Mona” Sue (Kuhns) Detweiler, age 73, pushed her walker aside and ran into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior (there may have been dancing involved, and we heard she showed up 30 minutes late to the Pearly Gates). Her purpose in life was to tell everyone about Jesus to be sure they would end up in heaven with her.
Ramona was born on December 15, 1950, into the loving family of the late Joe and Ada (Gingerich) Kuhns. She married her husband, Raymond Detweiler, at the age of 16 after they eloped. They were married for 42 years before he passed away in 2010. They lived primarily in Wyoming for 38 years before she moved back to her hometown of Plain City, OH.
Together they were blessed with 3 kids: Lori (Larry) Gardner of Palmetto, FL, Steve (Karla) Detweiler and Julie (Brian) Walker of Plain City, OH. She is also survived by her siblings Nicki Johnson of Fort Morgan, CO and Tony (Jane) Kuhns and Lisa (J.L.) Minshall of Plain City, OH. She loved all her grandchildren: Drey Hicks, Sheraya Headings, Conrad and Zach Gardner, A.J., Tucker and Dawson Detweiler, Brooklyn and Isaac Banks, and Emily and Braden Walker. She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren.
Mona loved her family and friends with a magnitude that many do not get to experience in their lifetime. How blessed we were just to know her. We have lost the sunshine of our family. We aren’t just talking about rays of light; we are talking about massive flood lights. She loved to give gifts to others, and especially loved to cook and feed people. She was known for having the best sense of humor, and her laughter was infectious. Some might say she was “joyfully spicy”.
A lover of words, mainly of a hyperbolized nature, she could tell some entertaining stories where she would have you laughing with tears (if she could get it out and you could understand it through her hysterical laughter).
Wine was also something she enjoyed, mainly of the boxed variety. She loved to play games and her favorites were Dominoes, Dutch Blitz, Swish, Penny Rummy, Phase 10, Scrabble/Words with Friends and playing the “cancer card”.
Her heart was to lead people to Christ and have fun in the process. She was one in a million with a heart of gold. The void she leaves is immeasurable, but the legacy that she has left will have an impact for generations.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday April 30, 2024 at 11am at Sharon Mennonite Church, 7576 Amity Pike, Plain City, OH 43064 with lunch to follow. That same day, family will receive friends for a Life Celebration at the Kuhns’ farm at 7931 Amity Pike, Plain City from 5-8pm.  Please visit www.fergusonfuneralhomeinc.com to share a memory.  Ferguson Funeral Home Plain City, Ohio is honored to care for the Detweiler family.

Bobby Lane Vanover - November 07, 1959 - January 28, 2024

Departed: 01/28/2024 (Plain City)
Obituary Preview: Bobby Lane Vanover of Plain City, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the age of 64. He was born November 7, 1959 to the late Roby and Lizzie (née Howard) Vanover in Morgan County, Kentucky. He was a 1978 graduate of Hilliard High School and spent most of his career as a chemistry lab technician for Core Molding Technologies, previously known as both Navistar and International Harvester. He moved to Plain City in 1979 to begin his own family with his childhood sweetheart, Teresa, where together they enjoyed small town life.
Bobby will be remembered as a devoted husband, doting father, and tenderhearted grandfather who was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Described by those who knew him as kind, warm, and generous, Bobby had a way of making people feel welcome and wanted in his presence. His humor could bring a smile to just about any face, and his larger-than-life laugh could fill a room. You could always count on him for a favor—he would help anyone who needed it, oftentimes without being asked. But perhaps most important of all to those who loved him, Bobby’s playful and patient nature, along with his undying sense of curiosity, made him popular with children—it wasn’t uncommon for nieces and nephews to call him their favorite uncle or for friends of his children to call him their second dad. The world forever will be a little dimmer without him in their lives.
Bobby was a friend to all creatures great and small. His pets brought him sincere joy, especially his two favorite four-legged companions, Brutus and Maverick. He enjoyed art, particularly drawing and making large scale murals of the things he loved. He was an extremely talented self-taught musician and guitar lover—Bobby always had a room in his home devoted to music where he displayed his various instruments and had jam sessions with friends and family, including his three grandchildren, with whom he shared his passion for music.
He enjoyed road trips, riding ATVs with his son and grandsons, coin collecting, muscle cars, martial arts (especially Kung Fu), professional wrestling, playing cards, drinking craft beers, and spending time with his family. His grandchildren will forever miss the times they spent writing songs with him, dreaming up big business ventures together, and eating his “Papa’s famous pasta” that he made for them every time they slept over.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Teresa (née Ieraci) Vanover; his two children, Layne (Robert O’Donnell) Vanover of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bobby (Allie) Vanover of Plain City; his three grandchildren Emerson O’Donnell, Cade Vanover, and Cam Vanover; his two younger sisters Velma (Larry) Burchett of Unionville Center and Terri (Lloyd) Cooper of Plain City; and his nine nieces and nephews and their many children. He will be genuinely missed by those whose lives he touched.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Plain City Presbyterian Church, located at 231 E. Main Street in Plain City. All are welcome to attend and share their favorite memories, stories, or photos of Bobby and to fellowship with his loved ones.  Please visit www.fergusonfuneralhomeinc.com to offer your condolences.  Ferguson Funeral Home Plain City is honored to care for the Vanover family.

Matthew Aaron Snyder - April 25, 1985 - January 21, 2024

Departed: 01/21/2024 (Plain City)
Obituary Preview: Matthew Aaron Snyder was born April 25th, 1985, outside rural Plain City, Ohio, lived for a time in Hilliard and Columbus, then returned home when his valiant fight with cancer ended January 21st, 2024.
Because a disease chased Matthew throughout most of his short, adult life, he still made the most of living that he could. He lit up every room, every snapshot, with his handsome face, big smile, or sassy expression. Mostly a quiet kid at school, he was a ’03 graduate of Jonathan Alder H.S and played four years on the golf team. He went on to attend a few years at OU, worked as a sign salesman and designer, and ended his working career as a claims adjuster for Nationwide Insurance.
Matthew was extremely active, playing golf, volleyball, biking, taking up CrossFit, and he loved any board or card game. He attended music festivals and, always up for an adventure, took trips to Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Hawaii.
Matthew’s proudest accomplishment would be the thousands of dollars he raised as long as he could for Pelotonia. He gave, raised, and rode hundreds of miles for cancer research.
To know Matthew was to adore him; he had wit, humor, a touch of orneriness but never meanness, compassion, quiet dignity, and a super power: he could endure pain, hardship, and hurt with such inner strength, without complaint and kept it to himself, all to protect those he loved. Lastly, Matthew was proudly, unapologetically, himself.
Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents: Don and Charlotte Snyder and Verlyn Yoder and Barbara Yoder Rollins. He leaves behind an army of friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most especially he leaves his most competitive game players and immediate family, parents Aaron and Shelly Snyder; his best friend and older sister, Lori Sanborn, spouse Tony, and their children Danielle, Thomas, and Bella; and his other best friend and younger sister, Christina Minshall, spouse Tyler, and their children Remi and Tegan. To say that he will be missed and was so loved, is not adequate enough.
A Celebration of Life for Matthew will occur in the Spring to be announced at a later date. No funeral or flowers are necessary. If you would like to donate to a cause in Matthew’s name, anything pertaining to cancer research in general is fine or Pelotonia in particular. Ferguson Funeral Home Plain City, Ohio is honored to care for the Snyder family.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community members. They also provide an opportunity to celebrate the person's life, share memories, and offer condolences to those who are grieving.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend of the deceased writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to use.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and funeral or memorial services.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. A good rule of thumb is to aim for 150-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to ask about their submission process and deadlines. Some newspapers may accept submissions online or by email, while others may require a phone call or in-person visit.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for a long time?

Yes, it's never too late to write an obituary for someone who has passed away. You can still publish it online or in a local newspaper as a way to honor their memory and share their story with others.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes! Many people choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the person's legacy and continue their impact beyond their passing.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline can vary depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish obituaries immediately, while others may have a delay of several days or even weeks.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, yes. If you need to make corrections or changes to an already-published obituary, contact the newspaper or online platform directly to ask about their revision policies.

Can I republish an old obituary online?

If you have permission from the original publisher or copyright holder, you may be able to republish an old obituary online. Be sure to check copyright laws and regulations before sharing someone else's work.
