He died on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 94. He received his education in a country school near Graettinger. On November 20, 1953 he was united in marriage to Marvis Luhman in Graettinger. The couple made their home and Richard farmed his entire life near Graettinger. For hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, refinishing antiques that he purchased at auctions, but farming was always Richard's passion. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. Left to cherish Richard's memory are his wife, Marvis of Graettinger; children, Kirk (Deb) Duus of Piconning, Michigan; Debra Tweedy of Dallas, Texas; Kristyn Simington of Emmetsburg; Kevin (Tracey) Duus of Graettinger; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Norland of Emmetsburg. He has been preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Randy Simington and sister, Elvera Anderson.
