Dedrea D. Lingo - March 24, 1970 - January 07, 2022

Departed: 01/07/2022 (Palmyra)
Obituary Preview: Dedrea Direne Lingo, affectionately known as “Dee,” 51, of Hampton, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022.
Dedrea was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey on March 24, 1970 to the union of Felton Denson Lingo, Sr. and the late Marita Matthews-Lingo. Their youngest and only daughter, Dedrea was a daddy’s girl and the apple of her parent’s eye, but having three older brothers, she quickly learned how to be a “tough cookie” in order to survive her brother’s rough and playful nature.
Dedrea attended Bridgeton Public School System prior to moving to Berlin, New Jersey and later attending Overbrook High School where she participated in many school activities. After high school, Dedrea enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served her country for thirteen dedicated years and was the consummate professional soldier.  She answered the call. As a Sergeant in the United States Army, she lived the “Army Warrior Ethos” which states: "I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit and I will never leave a fallen comrade”. She also lived her life that same way by putting others needs before her own. When she ran into obstacles and things didn't work out, she would pick herself up and readjust, it didn't matter, she never quit nor did she leave anyone behind. Her dedication to duty while supporting Operations Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom and enduring freedom allowed her to demonstrate her loyalty and commitment. She helped serve over 50,000+ National Guardsmen, Army Reservists, active duty personnel and civilians by ensuring their necessary clothing issue needs were met, pre and post deployment. She took pride in soldiering and taking care of soldiers of all ranks. After military life, while residing in both New Jersey and Virginia, Dedrea served in several management positions with various companies and businesses.
Dedrea’s spiritual walk began with her early years spent as an active member of St. Augustine A.M.E. Zion Church, where she participated in many youth activities and enjoyed the church fellowship with other young people, most of whom were her cousins. As young a young adult, she later became a member of Greater Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ in Berlin, NJ. Shortly after moving to Virginia in 2005, Dedrea joined First Baptist Church Morrison, Newport News, Virginia under the leadership of Reverend William Spencer, Pastor. As an active member, she served as Culinary Ministry Manager and was faithful as she selflessly rendered her God given talent and services.
Dedrea didn't do fake nor phony. If she liked you… she liked you and if she didn't you knew. She would give you her last and the shirt off her back; that was her heart. To know her is to love her. A deep love for her family, Dedrea was in her glory when surrounded by her loved ones, especially her two grandchildren. She loved to travel and spend time with her precious grands. It’s no secret that King and Zuri were Dedrea’s pride and greatest joy. Being called “G-Ma” was the greatest earthly title she ever had and she treasured every attribute of her most prized title.
In addition to her father, Dedrea leaves to cherish her memory two sons, James (JB) Boyce of Newport News, Virginia and Anthony Boyce of Lindenwold, New Jersey; one daughter, Dedrea (Sweet Pea) Davis of Newport News, Virginia; two grandchildren, King and Zuni; one brother: Derrick Darnell Lingo of Hampton, Virginia; two sisters, Henrietta Lingo of Columbia, South Carolina and Shannon Cook of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one Uncle Anthony Lingo (Linda) of Pennsauken, NJ; Aunt Paulette White of Bridgeton, NJ; Aunt Patricia Tuff (Rev. William Tuff) of Penns Grove, NJ; Aunt Gayle Hart (Roosevelt) of Vineland, NJ; special friends, Edna, Mona, Ericka, Nicky, Stephanie and Adrienne, along with a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and other friends.
Dedrea was predeceased by her mother, Marita Matthews-Lingo; two brothers, Felton, Jr. (Denny) and Dwayne, Sr; paternal grandparents Denson and Mazzie Lowe Lingo; maternal grandparents Ernest and Ruth Matthews; her Aunt Betty Lingo-Dickens, Aunt Carol (Casey) Royals and Uncle Ernest Matthews Jr. Lovingly Submitted, the Family
