Kay Judd - June 06, 1955 - January 08, 2024

Departed: 01/08/2024 (Kermit)
Obituary Preview: Kay Judd was born Belinda Kay Ferguson on June 6, 1955 to the late Billy Lee Ferguson, Sr. and Lois Esther (Teasley) Ferguson in Kermit, TX. She was born a fighter. She had rheumatic fever and was cared for by her grandparents, Charlie and Patsy. Very quickly her first name was dropped and "Kay" began growing up to become the strong, courageous woman that we all know and love. She was a force to be reckoned with and you’d better not call her Belinda.
Whatever sparked her interest, Kay taught herself to do. Her love of music resulted in her learning to play the dulcimer, the keyboard, and the guitar. She used to pick her guitar and sing to Vic and Charles, and anyone else who’d listen. If she loved you, you’d know it by the way she fed you. Thanksgiving meals by Kay were legendary and she'd frequently cook for her funeral home family. She’d also make sure you were warm with homemade quilts. She could make anything. If she didn’t know how – just wait. Whether it was wood furniture, jewelry, a dvd about 9-11 or her famous dressing, she could do it all.
Kay had a deep faith. She loved the reference in the Bible to having faith the size of the mustard seed and how with that faith you could move mountains. Whenever things just "fell into place" she was the first to recognize the hand of God and give Him thanks and praise. There's no telling how much help we have all received as a result of her fervent prayers on our behalf. Kay entered into rest on January 8, 2024. It may be the first time she really got some good rest. For her entire life, she was “busier than a three legged cat covering up s#!t on a hot tin roof.” She raised her boys, Vic and Charles, and taught them to work hard for what they wanted. However, she made sure they knew better than to depend on the 'here today – gone tomorrow' oilfield money. She started off her work career with Charles Wright Construction as a welder’s helper, did some waitressing, and then went on to auto body work with Barber Auto Shop. Moving on into the oilfield, she proved to Northern Natural/TransWestern that a woman could do what they thought was man’s work. She was a plant operator for them and transitioned into fieldwork. Her last foray into working for someone else was doing valve maintenance and as a compressor mechanic for Enron until their collapse, where she gained the respect of many. In 2002, Kay turned her time, attention, and entrepreneurial spirit toward supporting Vic as they opened up Family Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit. Vic had the funeral know-how, Kay figured out all the rest; writing up business plans, getting financing when needed, and designing her own forms. In 2005, the business expanded by adding a location in West Odessa, Acres West Funeral Chapel. Kay went to college to get her funeral director’s license and went on to serve people in that field with the same passion she always showed in her endeavors. Even during that time, as though there was not enough to do, she had her own woodworking business at home called “Back Yard Patio” and participated in the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary 6284. Kay met Michael Judd online on SingSnap where they both would sing. She met up with Michael in person in spite of all of our warnings and guess what? She was right. He wasn’t a serial killer, but turned out to be her perfect match. She married her soul mate, Michael, on February 19, 2009 and he became her best friend and a part of the funeral home business. Together they also rode motorcycles and Kay became a founding member of the local chapter of W.O.W. (Women on Wheels) where she took on the nickname of “Assfault Annie.” Kay soon adopted several of her fellow riders into her close circle of friends. Kay and Michael loved to travel and discovered new interests together gold prospecting and gem and mineral hunting. The “Alabama Gold Camp” became a summer getaway for several years for them and they developed many lifetime friends. After retirement in 2019, they followed their dreams and moved to a beautiful country place in Alabama near their beloved gold camp. There they built a cozy log cabin home with a beautiful porch where they could sit together and survey their “place.” Still never still, Kay taught herself to wire wrap jewelry and they had a business selling her lovely pieces made from Michael’s gems and stones and her artistic fashion called “One of a Kind Creations.” Their shared musical interests also resulted in another small business, “Red Dirt Road Karaoke.”
Kay was a study in contradictions. She was small, but mighty. She was humble, but full of wisdom and was often the smartest person in the room. She was an outspoken lady. Never to mince words, she would tell you “how the cow ate the cabbage.” She was an expert on giving second chances and loving without bounds, but she also would not put up with any crap. Her grandchildren could tell you how you’d better watch out when she pulled you aside for one of her lectures. But those same grandkids gave her so much joy! The only thing that made her prouder than her grandchildren was her great-grandchildren. We are so grateful that she was able to spend some time with her youngest little ones, Oliver and Isla, before this final journey. Along with her sometimes prickly outside, came the softest most generous heart. If she enjoyed something, she’d probably buy 3 or 4 and you might get one in the mail or as a gift the next time you stopped by. Her love was big and she showed it in a million little ways.
She was very open about her 2 year struggle with small cell carcinoma and the recent complications. There was lots of stress over Michael's health as well. Nothing would make her happier than to stay here forever taking care of us all and bossing us around, but that was just not in God's plan.
Kay was preceded to her Heavenly home by her parents, Bill and Lois, her baby sister Pamala, and her brother, Billy Ferguson Jr.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Michael Judd; sons: Vic Woods and wife Amy and Charles Woods and wife Lisa; step children and their families: Christopher Michael Judd, Jeremy Michael Judd and Debra Jean Judd; sister: Tammy Jo Neighbors; nieces and great-nieces: Kira Neighbors and daughter Roxy and Chelsea Parker and daughters: Avery and Madison; grandchildren: Derek Woods and wife Lauren, Hailey Gibson and husband Timothy, Jacob Woods and partner Brent Hudson, Alyssa Heredia and husband Diego, Beverly Woods, Xavier Woods, Marquez Woods, JC Woods and Ashley Marrufo and husband Derek; and great-grandchildren: Rowan, Josiah, Emily, Isla and Oliver. There is no way we could ever list all her much loved friends, those she mentored over the years, and the lives she has touched, but there's a "s#!t-pot-load" of you.
We will all miss her SO much. Period. Paragraph. The END.

Mary Ann Huddleston Mays - March 07, 1934 - May 14, 2023

Departed: 05/14/2023 (Kermit)
Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Huddleston Mays
Mary Ann Huddleston was born on March 7, 1934 in Wilson, Oklahoma and passed away on May 14, 2023 in Odessa, Texas. Mary Ann was an only child of Pete and Opal Huddleston and was their undeniable pride and joy.
She attended Kermit schools through graduation. Mary attended McMurry College, where she met her soulmate and forever love, Roy Kenneth "Milo" Mays. They married on June 7, 1953 and moved to Kermit. Mary and Milo had three daughters, Mende, Misa, and Menet and a beloved dog named Max. Mary worked for Kermit Independent School District from the late 1960s as the Administrative Assistant to multiple principals until she retired in 1990.
The family attended First Baptist Church and Mary enjoyed being a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was a devoted and enthusiastic coachs wife and a girl athletes mom. She enjoyed playing tennis, mostly with her grandsons, and often came out victorious. The family traditions that only "Grandma" took extra care to provide will be a constant reminder of her endearing love. Her grandchildren were a large part of her life and she was a devoted, loving, and attentive grandma. She enjoyed traveling to many places to support them in their school events.
Mary had a servant heart and was always the cheerful and patient center of the family but never wanted to be the center of attention. She had many varied interests throughout her life, such as camping, reading, rock collecting, crocheting, photography, journaling, and her favorite, fishing. Once she and Milo retired, they became resident summer campers in Colorado. Mary became the official "fisherwoman" for a resort and provided most of the fish their restaurant served. She loved coffee and was known for eating ice cream desserts as her meal.
She lived a faith-filled, contented life, laughed freely, and loved unconditionally. One rare and treasured gift that was quite a labor of love was that family members were each given a photo album documenting their lives from birth to adulthood.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, and grandson. She is survived by daughters, Mende Mays and partner Jana Davis of Odessa, Misa and Glen Harrington of Taylor, and Menet Richardson of Kermit; five grandchildren: Jillian Pinney and husband Jeff of Roseville, CA, Rusty Harrington and wife Lindsey of Denver, CO, Whitney Dubuisson and husband Jordan of Spring, Tyler Richardson and wife Erin of Plano, and McKenna Richardson of Kermit; seven great-grandchildren; Abby and Noah Pinney, Vivienne and Shepherd Dubuisson, Declan and Riley Harrington, and Elliana Richardson.
Two distinct trademarks of Mary were her love for the color red and the way she signed every card and letter: T.C.A.M.G.B (Take Care And May God Bless).
