Dora F. Nicolini - March 22, 1931 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (North Cape May)
Obituary Preview: Dora passed away peacefully on Monday April 22nd at the age of 93. She was surrounded by family and friends at the Pelican Pointe Post Acute Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Born and raised in Trenton, N.J. and retired from the N.J. State Department of Transportation. She moved to Cape May to enjoy her retirement and to be close to her loving family.
Dora was small in stature but a giant in terms of personality, strength and sassiness. Her eternal desire to travel the world helped earn her the nickname of Dora the Explorer. She traveled the world with a passion and zest that many of us could only dream of. Her great love of History paved the path to almost every country in Western Europe. This passion began by living in a one room apartment rental, while her husband Rocco Nicolini was stationed in Germany during the Cold War. Her undying desire for adventure perfectly encapsulated her spirit here on Earth.
We will miss her love of coffee ice cream, waffles with fresh strawberries and endless Black and White movie marathons. At a height of 5' tall and a weight of 100lbs, she could easily out eat most 350lb NFL linebackers. Lil' D was truly a small package of dynamite and a pillar of strength for our family.
Dora lived independently until the age of 93. She walked daily, over 8 miles a day on the promenade in Cape May, well into her late eighties. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and listen to music; The Beatles, Neil Diamond, Abba, Air Supply and Il Volo just to name a few. She enjoyed concerts and local musicians. Dora's long and amazing life is perfectly penned in a poem by Linda Ellis: The Dash "What mattered most of all was the DASH between those years engraved on the tombstone. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on Earth. And now only those who loved her know what that little line was worth. For it matters not, how much we own, the cars...the house...the cash. What matters is she lived and loved and how she spent her DASH."
Dora is predeceased by her father Eugene Biddulph, mother Florence Arrison Biddulph, brother Eugene Biddulph, brother Howard Biddulph, sister in law Jean Biddulph, niece Sherri Biddulph, long time partner George Benson and husband Rocco Nicolini.
She is survived by her daughter Leigh Nicolini Shea and John Eisenbeil, son in Law Robert Shea, and grandchildren Alex, Jesse, Aaron and Mia Shea. Her son Brian Nicolini, daughter in law Jaime Nicolini, grandchildren Paige, Ethan and Julian Nicolini. Sister in law Claire Biddulph, nephew Howard Biddulph and wife Rachelle Bradley Biddulph, niece Margaret Baffuto and husband David Baffuto. Nephew Harold Biddulph, nephew Scott Biddulph and wife Vicki Biddulph. Sister in law Roberta Dabronzo, brother in law Robert Dabronzo, nephew Mark Dabronzo and niece Danielle Dabronzo. Adopted son Raymond Cavalari. Her many friends that helped her live so independently until the end; Susan Treier, Pauline Prince, Susan Longacre and Kelly Shaw Kenny. A special thank you to Amanda Gigi Kille for making her last days comfortable.
A graveside memorial will be held at 11:30am on Saturday May 4th at Greenwood Cemetery. 1800 Hamilton Avenue ~ Hamilton, N.J. 08619. Directly across from First and Ten Restaurant.

Charles W. Breakell - April 05, 1949 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (North Cape May)
Obituary Preview: Charles William Breakell (Breck), was born on April 5, 1949. He passed quietly at home on April 13, 2024. He was surrounded by his family in his final moments.
Charles, or Breck, as most called him, grew up in Wildwood Crest, the son of Moffie and Bill. As a kid he loved fishing and hunting, the fishing passion never left him. He met the love of his life in high school, Diane Hamilton. With the threat of the draft looming, he decided to enlist. Breck and Diane married and he was off to serve in Vietnam. As his military stint was coming to an end their first son, Frank, was born. They left Georgia and came back to Wildwood Crest. Four years later their second son, Jason, was born and they moved into their first home on Mimosa Drive, Rio Grande. It was around this time he got his career in line and went to work for Bell Telephone, and later retired from Verizon. In his down time he enjoyed fishing with friends, sons, and his grandchildren, from the jetties, the beach, and from one of his many boats. He even enjoyed fishing the local ponds. Later he began carving his own fishing plugs, a past time he enjoyed immensely. The abundance of equipment and supplies in his garage tell the tale. He will be missed, always loved and the fish will swim a little easier.
Breck was preceded in death by his parents, William and Moffie, who will be thrilled to deal with Breck's antics in the afterlife, and is survived by his loving wife Diane, son Frank (Lisa), son Jason (Megan), and his grandchildren Alexandra, Chloe, Jason Jr., Kayla, Kaitlyn, Torence, Giana, and Hayden, and his niece Ashley, who are still convinced this is all one of his pranks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify others of the person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences to the family.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important information. Aim for around 150-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos of the deceased. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the obituary and share memories with others.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process. They may have specific guidelines or forms to fill out. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words. However, it's essential to discuss this with your loved ones and make sure they're aware of your wishes.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, often including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's not possible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. However, online obituaries can often be edited or updated by the family or funeral home.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or platform. Some online obituaries may be published immediately, while print newspapers may take several days or even weeks.

Can I request corrections to an obituary?

If you notice errors or inaccuracies in an obituary, contact the publication or funeral home directly. They'll work with you to correct the mistakes and publish a revised version.

What's the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication and length of the obituary. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for print publication. Online obituaries may be free or low-cost.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and personality to an obituary. Just be sure to obtain any necessary permissions or credits.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain microfilm records of past publications. Many genealogy websites also offer access to historical obituaries.

Can I republish an old obituary?

In most cases, yes. If you want to republish an old obituary for a special occasion or anniversary, contact the original publication or copyright holder for permission.

What's the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and pay tribute to the deceased. It provides a digital space for people to come together and support one another during a difficult time.

How long are online obituaries kept active?

The duration varies depending on the platform or funeral home. Some online obituaries remain active indefinitely, while others may be archived after a certain period.

Can I create a memorial website instead of an obituary?

Yes! Memorial websites are dedicated spaces where you can share memories, photos, and stories about your loved one. They can serve as a lasting tribute and provide comfort to those who are grieving.

What's the etiquette for responding to condolences on an online guestbook?

A simple "thank you" or acknowledgement is sufficient. You may also respond with a personal message or update if you feel comfortable doing so.

Can I include charitable donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary?

Absolutely! This is a thoughtful way to honor your loved one's memory while supporting a meaningful cause. Be sure to specify the charity and any relevant details.

How do I handle inaccuracies or disagreements within the family regarding an obituary?

Sensitive discussions may be necessary. Try to reach consensus among family members before submitting the obituary. If disagreements persist, consider seeking guidance from a funeral director or mediator.
