Alice Mildred Palma - March 31, 1919 - April 16, 2022

Departed: 04/16/2022 (Pittsboro)
Obituary Preview: The following is an obituary written by Alice's loving family.
Alice Mildred [nee McClintock] Palma, 103, of Indianapolis and formerly of Brownsburg, died April 16, 2022. Alice was born March 31, 1919, in West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park IL, the fourth and last child of John and Lela McClintock, all of whom predeceased her. Her father, a partner in Guy & McClintock Construction Company, built that hospital. Alice grew up in River Forest and graduated from Oak Park / River Forest Township High School, where she received mostly As and participated in French Club, German Club, Music Club, Debate Club, Chorus, and Women’s Athletic Association.
She was able to attend and graduate from The University of Illinois on a Cook County IL scholarship, graduating with honors in three years, in 1940. There, she met her future husband, Lumir Palma, to whom she was married 74 years before his death in 2017. Her first job out of college was teaching English and French for $135 per month in Clinton IL, allowing her to return to U. of I. to pursue her Masters Degree.
Lumir and Alice were married February 25, 1943 in the Chapel of St. James Cathedral in Chicago when Lumir was on a four-day leave from serving in The Army Air Corps during World War II. Alice’s parallel interest and degree in chemistry became valuable during the war when she worked in quality control on war materiel in several factories, primarily Revere Copper & Brass.
Lumir and Alice’s three sons were born after the war. They first lived in Elmwood Park IL and then Paris IL, where Lumir had a Packard dealership with his brother Milton and then worked for the U. O. Colson Company. Alice enjoyed being in plays with Lu in a Paris madrigal group, being a Cub Scout Den Mother, and being involved in several civic organizations. Alice and Lu always sang in their church choirs; she had a beautiful voice.
The family moved to Indianapolis in 1962 when Lu was recruited by Indianapolis’ Gene B. Glick Real Estate Company. There, Alice taught English in Indianapolis Public Schools Day Adult High School and volunteered at The Indiana State Museum.
Lumir and Alice retired to Brownsburg in 1983 to be near their two grandchildren; Joseph (Melissa) Palma, now of Wexford PA, and Kate (Michael) Marciniec, now of Westfield IN. There, Alice pursued her life-long gardening interest for many years as an active member of Brownsburg’s Friendly Garden Club. Although Alice’s heritage was Scottish, an Indianapolis Star article highlighted Alice’s Indiana State Fair awards for Kolaches and the Czechoslovakian sweet bread Hoska.
Alice is also survived by her sons, Bob (Cari) of Brownsburg, Stanley (Cheryl) of Indianapolis, and Russell (Marcia) of Minneapolis MN. Alice later enjoyed her four great-grandchildren; Joe and Melissa’s son, Lucas, and Michael and Kate’s children, Will, Ellie, and Josh Marciniec. All will greatly miss Grandma and Great-Grandma.
Alice’s 11:00 AM Rite of Christian Funeral will be April 25, 2022 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carmel IN. Her cremated remains will join Lumir’s for inurnment at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago at a later date. Memorial contributions in Alice’s memory may be directed to Little Town of Bethlehem Preschool c/o Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1484 West Main Street, Carmel IN 46032.
The family wishes to thank Indianapolis’ Marquette Assisted Living staff, especially Nurse Ann Beckett, of whom Mom was quite fond; Aseracare Hospice Nurse, Shannon Wright; and staff member, Wanda, of Senior Home Companions, for their kindnesses shown to Mom. Thanks are also extended to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Pittsboro for their gracious assistance.
Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services.  All are encouraged to share thoughts, prayers, and memories with Alice's family on her memorial page found on the funeral home's website, www.ericmdbellfuneralhome.com/obituary/Alice-Palma .

Margaret “Peg” Williams - November 29, 1940 - April 02, 2022

Departed: 04/02/2022 (Pittsboro)
Obituary Preview: Margaret “Peg” Williams, 81 of North Salem, Indiana, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2022, with her loving family by her side.
Margaret “Peg” Williams was preceded in death by her parents Maynard “Ding” and Helen Smith Burnsworth, and her three brothers: John Michael “Mike” Smith, Paul  Dennis “Denny” Smith, and Phillip Grant Smith, along with her two infants: son Gregory James Williams, daughter Stephanie Jane Williams.
Born November 29, 1940, at home in North Salem, Indiana, she was the daughter of Maynard “Ding” and Helen Smith.
Margaret represented her 1958 North Salem High School senior class as their Vice President where she also accomplished Band 8 years, 4-H 6 years, Girls’ State, and Drum Majorette.
Margaret grew up on a farm on Ladoga Road in North Salem. She had an affinity for all living creatures. She fixed up the attic in the barn with used furniture and first aid kits for any animals that had fell victim to her brother’s B.B. guns. This affinity for animals became a part of her throughout her lifetime.
After graduation, Peg attended Herron School of Art and Design and later went on to win several art awards. She taught herself to weave baskets from wood growing on the farm, designed her own home, volunteered to paint and do advertising in her community.
Peg was one of the first women (along with her good friend Sonnie Johnston) to join the Eel River Fire Department.  Peg was a First-Class Firefighter with the State of Indiana. She also became an Emergency Medical Technician and served her local community for several years.
Her love of animals never waned, and she became Licensed by the State of Indiana Department of Natural Resources as a Wildlife Rehabilitator. She rehabbed everything from deer to raccoons. She also rehabbed several large raptors.
A few years after they were married, Peg and Jim started a farm at their home in North Salem. Like everything else, she excelled at anything she attempted. Peg learned to drive all the large farm equipment, did the bookkeeping for the entire operation, and had her own farm ground that she would manage herself. When times were tough, they raised hay and sold it to many farming facilities and the Indianapolis Zoo. Peg had a way of knowing the perfect time to put up hay. Peg and Jim, along with their three children, worked together to make Williams Farms what it is today.
Peg’s father “Ding” had horses throughout the years.  He brought home a gaited horse named Big Red. Big Red was beautiful but she wanted a horse of her own. She got a quarter horse named Ace. Ace was not trained to the saddle and had never been ridden. As a young girl Peg broke him by herself in a stall in the barn until he was trained to ride. They became a pair and in a recent conversation with Aunt Kathy she admitted that “Ace was probably my favorite horse”. A young girl and her horse, her friend, and her confidant. Peg fed, washed, and brushed Ace. She kept his stall clean. She rode him often and one of her favorite places to “escape to” was a place called Adam’s Woods.
Being a high achiever, Peg started taking English riding lessons when she was close to 60 years old. She then passed this passion on to her granddaughters. Understanding just what Peg needed, Jim built a riding arena and stalls so her passion could continue. She and the granddaughters and the entire family traveled around competing in horse shows from 4H to World Championships across several states. Some of her biggest thrills were traveling to South Africa in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015 to cheer her granddaughters on in Invitational Teams and USEF Saddle Seat World Cup Teams.
Peg would jump on her horse any time she had to face a surgery or hardship in her life, they brought her such peace and comfort. The last time she was able to ride was in August 2021 at 80 years old.
She is survived by her Husband of 60 years, James Williams and her sister, Kathy Freimanis. James and Margaret had three children: her daughter Michelle (Van) Lawson and her two sons, Kenneth Williams, and David Williams. They were blessed with six grandchildren: Sarah (Jimmy) Barclay, Alexandra Lawson, Hattie Lawson, Austin Williams, Corbin Williams, and Madison Williams and two great grandchildren: Grayson James Barclay and Benson Isaac Barclay.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana, from 2 pm to 5 pm.  Funeral services will be held the following day, April 11, 2022, at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, North Salem.

Ralph Krause - Unknown - January 23, 2022

Departed: 01/23/2022 (Pittsboro)
Obituary Preview: The following is a tribute written by Mr. Ralph Krause’s loving family:
Our Father, Ralph D. Krause, 82, peacefully lost his battle to cancer on January 23, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born in July 1939 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Our father attended school at Perry Central and played varsity basketball until he graduated in 1957. After graduation, our father continued to work on his childhood farmland in Lebanon, IN and at the local fertilizer plant until he became a production relief man at Chrysler Foundry in January 1963. Well known as “Red” to many others at the foundry, dad was an avid bowler and in fact was on the bowling league at the company for a few years until he took an early retirement in 2001 after working for 37 and 1/2 years. Our father continued as a member of UAW 550 and was dedicated to the union for many years until he passed away.  Our father always enjoyed going to car shows and taking vacations with his family. He enjoyed bowling, landscaping and watching/going to see if his beloved sports teams would win the game. He also enjoyed playing miniature golf. Our father loved being a jokester and making people laugh with his quick-witted sense of humor. He was very family-oriented and enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, his late wife, Gloria Jean, whom he was married to for 50 years, and his three children, Laurie Small of Pittsboro, IN., Ralph D. Krause Jr. of Loves Park, IL. and April Chludzinski of Elkton FL. He also enjoyed his time with his four grandchildren, Ashley Patton of Pittsboro, IN., Heather Robbins of Desert Hot Springs, California and Ronald Derek Robbins II of Indiana and Ava Chludzinski of Elkton FL. He especially enjoyed playing horseshoes, all sports , swimming, riding bikes and being young at heart with his nine great- grandchildren, two of which precede him in death. Our father always took pride in everything he accomplished and taught everyone around him to do the same in their own lives. Our father also taught us to have fun in life because “it’s too short to do anything else”. The memories we have of this special man will always be cherished. We will always remember his smile as he is smiling at us all and his memory will forever carry on.

Larry Canada - February 10, 1948 - January 05, 2022

Departed: 01/05/2022 (Pittsboro)
Obituary Preview: Larry Canada, 73 of Pittsboro, Indiana passed away peacefully, January 5, 2022 with his loving family by his side.  Below is a life story written by his family. Larry Canada (2/10/48 - 1/5/22)
One of Larry's rituals each morning was reading the newspaper.  He turned to the obituaries first and truly enjoyed reading about the many lifelong achievements of those who had passed. We believe this gave him the drive and inspiration to ensure that his life story was a worthwhile read. Here is his story.
Larry held many titles during his life, but there are three that meant the most to him. Larry, or “Babe” as his wife Bobbi often called him, enjoyed 53 wonderful years of wedded bliss with Bobbi. His sons, Zach (Kelly) and Jud (Emily) proudly called him “Dad”, and Larry was always bursting with pride as they grew up to become fine young men and fathers. One of the greatest joys of his life was being called “Papaw Larry” by Nolan (18), Regan (16), Chloe (12), Luke (11), Kip (11), and Libby (6).  Larry was blessed to see them all begin their school careers, allowing him to take on his favorite job, personal bus driver. Each morning and afternoon, he was fortunate enough to drive the kids to school, and pick them up, creating some of the most precious memories and conversations. Larry was so proud of his grandchildren and their many academic and athletic accomplishments. The pride and love he had for his family was impossible to deny whenever Larry had the chance to speak about them - that contagious smile would spread easily across his face as he shared a recent story.
Larry grew up in the small town of Bainbridge, IN. It was there that his never-ending circle of friends began. He, his friends, and his brother, Gary, spent time riding their bikes around town, playing sports together, and learning life lessons along the way. Among the sports that Larry played, was the second love of his life, basketball. While it remained at the forefront of his life for many years, his greatest personal highlight was when the Bainbridge Pointers reached Semi-State in 1966. After graduating from Indiana University, he worked multiple jobs in the medical field before he took a leap of faith and became a successful entrepreneur. After his sons graduated high school, Larry and Bobbi spent time traveling. For several years they followed the NASCAR circuit in their motorhome, visiting sunny spots across the US, and for five winters, they settled in Texas to enjoy time with family and friends.  Over the past several years Larry and Bobbi once again embraced their love of basketball and have closely followed the Butler University Men’s Basketball Team. Through their travels, they have made many great friends and fond memories.
Larry’s crowning professional achievement was starting his own business, Healthcare Products Delivery. For the better part of the last 25 years, his two sons worked alongside him to build and grow a successful company. Larry was equally proud of all the wonderful individuals they have employed over the years that make up the HPD family.
Larry’s success allowed him to live a life centered around his generous spirit, changing the lives of so many people around him. This was his legacy, and it will continue to live on through his family and those that knew him best.
The family is planning a celebration of life that will be announced in the Spring.
