Annie received her education through the Lee County Public School System. She attended Dennis High School, where she graduated in 1966.
Upon graduating from high school, Annie relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she was employed by National Envelope East… She remained employed with the company for more than thirty-five years, until the company’s closing in 2008.
In 2011, Annie returned to Bishopville, South Carolina to care for her ailing brother up until his death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Annie Bell and Harmon Smith, Jr.; her granddaughter, Faith Phillips; two sisters, Beulah Hannah, and Lillie Bell Gregg; two brothers, Edward Thomas and Harmon Smith, III; her love, Charlie Keyes and one sister-in-law,  Francis Smith.

Ethel Dixon Toney - September 19, 1944 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Ethel Dixon-Toney was born on September 19, 1944, in Woodrow, SC.  Ethel was the daughter of the late Izaih Dixon and Coreen Johnson-Dixon.  Ethel departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, after a brief illness at Prisma Health, Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.
At the age of five, Ethel relocated to NJ and later graduated from Linden Highschool, class of 1962.  Ethel then met and married the love of her life, James Toney, JR.  The happy couple were married for 58 years until James death on March 8, 2021.
While living in NJ, Ethel worked as a Librarian at the Linden Public Library.  Ethel also worked at several other companies – A&S, National State Bank, and the Teachers Federal Credit Union as a Head Teller in Roselle Park, NJ.  Ethel also attended First Baptist Church in Linden, NJ and then joined Heard A.M.E in Roselle, NJ and was a part of the Emergency Choir and the South Carolina Club.
Ethel moved back to SC in 1994 and became employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florance, SC, where she retired at the age of 62. Ethel was also an active member of New Zion A.M.E Church in Bishopville and was a part of numerous ministries.
Ethel loved sewing, cooking, and baking and was well-known for her pound cakes.  Ethel also enjoyed being an Independent Jewelry Consultant for Paparazzi Accessories. Ethel is survived by her children Nathaniel (Michelle) Toney, Sr. of Bishopville, SC; Yvette (Ronney) Jones of Darlington, SC; Anthony (grand dog Sasha) Toney of Avenel, NJ; God-Daughter Natasha (Todd) Johnson-Geter of Sumter, SC; three siblings Bennie Dixon of Linden, NJ; Cynthia (Wayne) Johnson of Sumter, SC; Robert Dixon of Linden, NJ; Cousin/Brother Marc Johnson of MD; 2 brothers-in-law Jobe (Willie Mae) Toney of Columbia, SC and Willie Lee Dowell of Bishopville, SC; 4 sisters-in-law Thelma Toney & Gloria Dixon of Roselle, NJ; Greta Mark of Sumter, SC; and Ada Trapp-Toney of Lynchburg, SC; 5 grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly

Minister Malichi Dargan, Jr. often called “Jr.” was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in his early life, where he was a deacon. He later became the president of New Bethel Male Chorus. Later, he joined the Outbreak Cathedral Ministries under the leadership of the late Michael Dargan and Shonette Dargan Richardson where he served faithfully as a minister for the Outreach Cathedral Ministry. He enjoyed teaching, preaching, singing and spreading the gospel of the Lord. He was a loving, caring and giving person who will be greatly missed.
Minister Maliachi Dargan, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Malachi Dargan, Sr. and Rosa Mae Dargan; two sons, Michael Dargan and Eric Johnson; three sisters, Jerline Brown, Mae Frances Williams and Virginia Gilmore.

Timothy was born in Bishopville, South Carolina, on August 7, 1959 to the late Evelyna Mickel & Ruben Blakney. Timothy was raised by his late maternal great-grandmother Rosa Moses, who cultivated his passion for nurturing family, cooking, and serving the community. Timothy attended school in Lee County graduating from Dennis High School in 1977. In 2018, Timothy earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Human Service from St. Leo’s University. He embraced the journey of learning, “Jack” of all trades with a passion for exploration.
Timothy was preceded in death by his cousin Bobby Moses. He is survived by his four daughters Annetta Benjamin, Tinikia Benjamin, Tanya Holloman, Deiondra Mickel, two sons Keno Slater and Owansa Benjamin. Timothy's children meant the world to him. Three bonus children, Shereza Middleton, Tyrus Mazyck, and Namon Mazyck. A deeply treasured and dedicated woman who Timothy embraced life with passion and love, Linda Mazyck. Two brothers Benny Moses and Lynn Blakney. Four aunts Mary Moses, Patricia Moses, Marylyn Brunson, Jeanette Gilliard. One uncle Tony (Diann) Harris of Philadelphia, PA. Twenty-three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two Goddaughters Mindora Moses and Mondreia (Robert) Moses-Buxton, beloved cousin James Moses, and host of relatives and friends.

Boo-boo was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was a very hard and dedicated worker. She worked at Willie Sues, Pilgrim Pride and Wards BBQ for several years. Her co-workers was like family to her. Boo-Boo excepted her Lord and Savior at an early age, she     attended the local churches in Sumter county, New Life Bible Church, Cherryvale Baptist Church, and Grace Cathedral Ministries. She love going to Spoliwa Bible Camp in Georgia when she was a little girl. She was blessed with the gift to talk and listen to so many people, she loved helping people, she always expressed and told her family and friends how much she loved them. Boo-Boo had an infectious laugh and she was incredibly kind to all who knew her, she was a friend to so many people. She was a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on, someone to pick you up when you were down someone who offered you advice, but even in disagreement there was respect, understanding and an underlying love that transcended differences. Virginia’s life was for too short on this earth, but we are thankful to God for allowing her to be a testament of life filled with love, laughter, and memories that enrich our lives, and will forever echo in our hearts.

Maggie worked at several nursing homes in Sumter and the Health Department. She loved taking care of those who needed help. A Time to Grow and Build:
Maggie accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age. She attended the local churches in Sumter County, New Life Bible Church, Cherryvale Baptist Church and Jefferson Baptist Church. Maggie was always in church when the doors were open. She loved working on the Bus Ministry and Visitation Ministry. Maggie loved ministering to children and the elderly. Maggie was a gospel song writer. She had several of her songs published and recorded. Maggie’s two favorite songs were “Never Would Have Made It” by Marvin Sapp and “Won’t He Do It” by Koryn Hawthorne.
Maggie was a kind, loving and generous person, loved by all who met her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

He was faithful and worked hard to fulfill his task in their ministries. Also, during this time, Terrance became a minister of the Gospel and preached the Word of God. He was a member Victory Praise & Worship Center under the leadership of Apostle P. F. Chambers. He was ordained as an Elder and served in many ministries at Victory Praise and Worship Center. Terrance loved God and would help anyone that came his way. During his spare time, he loved spending time with his nieces and being with close family and friends. He was loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Prothro; his close uncle, James Young, and his grandparents.

Margaret enjoyed thirty-seven years of marital bliss with Wayne Capers Sr. and their union was blessed with three children who loved her dearly. Margaret was a very faithful servant of Jehovah God for over forty-five years. She was baptized and saved at an early age. During her early years, she would spread the word of God to the people of Darlington and Florence, South Carolina. Later in life, she moved to Sumter, South Carolina with her husband Wayne. They joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the late 1980s and she remained a very faithful member until her passing. Margaret always pledged to do the will of Jehovah God. She never lost her hope of living forever in a beautiful paradise on earth with peace and happiness where the former things have passed away. Margaret was affectionately known as a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. She was the sweetest and kindest person she could be and was a strong and caring woman. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie James Wilson and Ada Estell Webster Wilson; brothers, Louis Wilson and Raydell Wilson along with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and nephews.

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, Mother Hattie Clines Duffie answered the Master’s call. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving son, grandchildren and loving family whom she touched throughout her memorable life. She loved her natural family.
Mother Hattie Clines Duffie, was  born on August 23, 1928, in Richland County to the late Frank Clines and Lizzie Branch Climes. She took the role of caring for her siblings. Hattie was a humble child. Her parents taught her to always put God first in her life.
On April 24,1948, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Marvin Duffie, Sr. With much patience, tender loving care, they were blessed to raise 3 handsome boys. Hattie and Marvin  always worked hard for their children from dust to dawn. They had plenty to eat from their work labor.
Hattie's spiritual existence began at an early age at Orangehill African Episcopal Church where she attended diligently. She was a dedicated and faithfully member for over 50 years and served faithfully as a Good Samaritan, Stewards #1 and #2, Women’s Missionary Society, Senior Usher and Kitchen Advisor until she was unable to attend services due to declining health. In 2019, she was nominated as the Church Mother.
Through the years, Hattie has been a woman of strong character and great wisdom. She had many skills and enormous compassion. Her strength and dignity did not come from life achievements; they are a result of her reverence of God. We can saw her as an inspiration to all. We cannot be just like her, but we can learn from her. Her life history shows us how to become wise, make good decisions, and live according to God.
For over 40 years, she worked as a home care worker until the age of —. Her hobbies were     cooking, gardening, and spending time with family. She always believed in sharing and she fed everyone. Anyone who stopped by her home, she would feed them. She wanted you to have some of what she had. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, mother-in-law, auntie, cousin and a dear friend, but most importantly a child of God. She always greeted you with a smile and a calm loving spirit. She was affectionately known as “Peggy” Grandma Peggy, Aunt Peggy and Ms. Peggy to many along with Peggy Leg.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Isaac Duffie and Marvin (Martha) Duffie, Sr, Nora Johnson, Robert (Carrie Geter) Clines, George Clines and James Clines and Mattie Sinkler. Hattie is survived by her son; Bill (Carrie) Duffie: daughter-in-law, Willie Mae Duffie of Wedgefield, SC: a grandson and caregiver, Elder Dameon C. Duffie of the home, nine additional grandchildren; Willie (Polina) Davis of Hampton, VA, Isaac (Knadja) Davis, Dimetria (Ylysees) Bell, Patrica Duffie and Terrence Duffie all of Wedgefield, SC, Jason (Stacie) Duffie of Olanta, SC,
Billy Duffie of Orangeburg, SC; Sheraunda Duffie of Sumter, SC and Marvelette Davis of Charlotte, NC; additional caregiver, Makeylia Wilson of Dalzell, SC; thirty-four great-grandchildren, twenty-eight great-great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Obituary Preview: Patricia Anne Mathews, the wife of Ralston C. Mathews, died on April 1, 2023, at her home. She was born June 4, 1943, at Freedman’s Hospital in Washington, DC.  She was the oldest daughter of William “Bub” Murray and Eleanor “Daughter” Murray.  Patricia worked for the Department of the Navy and various other federal government agencies in Washington, DC.  She was a faithful member of Galbraith AMEZ Church in Washington, DC.
Pat married her husband after a year of courtship.  As the family grew, Pat took on many tasks in addition to raising their children. She would take the children to school, cook, and work.  During the summer, she would work and pick up the babysitter while her husband was working.
After the couple retired, they planned and decided to move to South Carolina, the Wedgefield area, to spend their Golden Years.  Pat reunited with Bethel AME Church in Wedgefield, the area where she attended Bethel school in the first grade.  At Bethel AME Church, she continued her singing career as she did at Galbraith AMEZ Church in Washington, DC.  Pat loved to sing and was a member of the Gospel Choir, Inspirational Choir, and the L.D. Clark Singers.  She loved all music, spiritual and secular.
During their Golden Years, Pat and her husband traveled the United States from the shores of Key West, Florida to the falls of Niagara, New York, and from the ocean of Atlantic City, New Jersey to the roaring tides of Honolulu, Hawaii.  The couple also visited six foreign lands.
Pat loved to cook. Her fried chicken was of Michelin quality, but her specialty was her potato and pasta salads.  Whenever three or more gathered, they wanted Pat to prepare the pasta salad for the event.
Happy, smiling, and friendly were Pat’s trademarks.  She was a social butterfly.  A beautiful face and personality to go with it.  She never wanted to offend anyone, ever!  She just enjoyed life.  Her final words were “All is well”.
Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Murray; her brother, Ivory Leonard Murray, and sister, Vivan Lorretta Murray.
Survivors include her husband, Ralston C. Mathews; sons, Ralston and Ritchie (Gina) Mathews; a daughter, Patrice Mathews; grandsons, Ritchie (Caryn), Ramsey, Ryon, and Rhyse.

John grew up in Van Etten, New York, and graduated from Spencer-Van Etten High School. He worked at Schweizer Aircraft/ Sikorsky Aircraft for 40 years as Chief Shipping and Receiving Clerk. Shortly after beginning his job, he met his bride, Sherry, of 46 wonderful years. This union produced two amazing children, Jeremy and Jennifer, whom they mentored with love and pride. After retiring, John and Sherry moved to Sumter, South Carolina.
John was family oriented and had a kind kindred spirit. He was noble in mind and soul with a very generous attitude for helping others. He was a person totally devoted to a purpose or cause and never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and car enthusiast. He could fix anything and was always working in his beautiful yard. Many will miss John on his lawnmower working in his yard along with his lovely wife Sherry sharing the work.
John is survived by his loving wife Sherry, son Jeremy, daughter Jennifer, and son-in-law Eric; three beautiful and amazing granddaughters, Madison, Rheannan and Makaela, whom he loved with all his heart. He was also survived by his sister, Betty; brother, Henry and sister-in-law Linda, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and his sister, Carol.
