Laurietta "Vee" Ebon Caalim - January 20, 1955 - June 07, 2021

Departed: 06/07/2021 (Temecula)
Obituary Preview: Laurietta “Vee” Ebon Caalim was born on January 20, 1955 in Limay, Bataan Philippines to parents, Matias Ebon and Zenaida Del Rosario Ebon.
From 1961-1967, she attended Limay Elementary School, where she met her then future husband, Orlando "Ed" B. Caalim Jr., in the 3rd grade.
From then on, they were classmates all the way through college.
At a bright and early age, she demonstrated an artistic talent and an ear for music, a trait which she passed on to many of her descendants.
She attended Limay Municipal High School from 1967-1971.
Then, from 1971-1975, she attended the University of East Manila and earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Education and Majored in Biology and minored in English.
From 1976 to Early 1980’s she taught at her alma mater, Limay Municipal High School, where her students grew highly fond of her and later developed into lifelong friends.
Ed & Vee decided to tie the knot on August 27, 1977. They welcomed their first daughter, Heather Anne Caalim, on March 28, 1979. Despite the several health complications Heather was born with, Vee was faithful that her newborn daughter would thrive-and she did.
Heather brought pure joy and laughter to their lives.
Shortly thereafter, the young family moved to Hawaii due to Ed’s station orders from the US Navy. Doctors discovered during her second pregnancy that Vee had a heart condition. In fact, it was highly recommended that the pregnancy be terminated due to the high risks that it entailed. Despite the threat, Vee opted to carry on with the pregnancy.
The decision required her to be highly monitored and hospitalized at the 7th month of pregnancy until she delivered the baby. However, all of the struggle was worth it when Vee gave birth to their second daughter, Abilene Caalim on September 29, 1981.
Two years later in 1983, Ed was assigned to a new duty station. Vee taught at Mt. Carmel Middle School located in Agat, Guam.
In 1987, they were transferred to San Diego, CA where she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Hancock Elementary until December of 1991.
Ed, Vee and family moved to Temecula in December 1991 where they settled.
Vee became a proud and young grandmother to her first grandson, Aidan Caalim, by her daughter, Abilene on July 8, 2000.
Her second grandson, Owen Pondivida, was born on July 27, 2007.
She became grandmother to yet another grandson, Phillip Worley, through Heather on September 20, 2008.
They welcomed their first granddaughter, and 4th grandchild, Jaelynn Pondivida, on July 28, 2010.
Her second granddaughter and 5th grandchild, Hollynn Heather Pondivida, was born on September 30, 2016.
Vee’s love for music transferred down to all 5 grandkids who possess extraordinary musical skills.
It is evident through her actions and constant involvement, that she LOVED being a grandmother with every fiber of her being.
She never failed to attend each and every event her grandchildren participated in, from band concerts, wrestling competitions (despite giving her heart palpitations), marching band competitions, theater performances, school functions and anything else that was important to her beloved grandchildren.
On May 11, 2014, the unimaginable happened: Ed & Vee’s eldest daughter, Heather, passed away from cancer which left them beyond devastated, as any parent would be.
Vee’s ailments began to slowly progress since the loss of their dear Heather.
The caliber of pain and symptoms that she suffered was not noticeable to those around her. She strove to keep a smile on her face regardless of what she experienced.
Vee was a huge Chargers fan and an avid viewer of the TV Game Show, Jeopardy. Her favorite pastimes were attending music concerts, going on outings, travelling, painting, and eating out with the grandkids. She engaged in all these activities as long as her impaired vision and physical health allowed her to.
Vee left this world to be with Jesus and her daughter, Heather, on June 7, 2021. The time of her passing was 3:28 PM. Heather's Birthday was also on 03/28 (March 28th). She will be dearly missed by her mother, siblings, husband, daughter, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Memorial: Friday, June 18, 2021 from 6:00~9:00pm.
